Hotwest: Even though I am not too concerned about Osun, I will have to state this truth. Most of those brown rooftops have been existing long before independence. Some as far as close to One hundred years. By that time, all those places you're celebrating today in your region were filled abides made with thatched leaves. Many of these huts have given way for the so called new buildings. Look, if you see ancient habitats such as being shown, and theses kind of structures are not seen, it means just 70 to 100 years, those inhabiting there were living in sorry jungles. I give it to the ancient West and the North 1 Like 1 Share |
Politics / Tinubu’s Inauguration: US Lawyer Moves To Block Govt Delegation, Writes Biden by farem: 9:55pm On May 26, 2023 |
Tinubu’s inauguration: US lawyer moves to block government delegation, writes Biden on 8 reasons why US should not attend religious genocide at the expense of refugee American diplomatic families was an unspeakable travesty and slight of their service. As such the State Department’s State of Denial continues to claim the lives of Nigerians needlessly and threaten the lives of Americans as well. As Dr King said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to Justice everywhere!” In a perfect epitaph to your administration’s burial of religious freedom in Nigeria, during your summit, Kano state sentenced to death by hanging an Islamic cleric, Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, for blasphemy. Yet you pronounced Gen. Buhari a “Champion of democracy!” Eighthly, is your administration’s plan to return tens of millions of dollars looted by the Nigerian dictator Gen. Abacha, who abducted, tortured, imprisoned and ultimately exiled me to America as a young lawyer 25 years ago, back to his bagman and use over $150 million leftover to fight climate change in Nigeria. This notwithstanding that Nigeria has more pressing priorities and this is a wrong message to send to lootocrats. In conclusion, the foregoing are just a few examples of the yawning chasm between American ideals and Nigeria’s aspirations in your policy orientation or lack thereof. It is reflective of a disturbing disconnect between your administration, which has a number of high placed Nigerian American officials (which is commendable) and their desire to see Nigeria do well too. Mr. President, you have a chance not to be on the wrong side of history; not to vote against the hopes of the Nigerian American community who are a key component of America’s black demography or millions of Nigeria’s youth whose necks are under the asphyxiating knees of Nigeria’s kleptomaniacal gerontocrats. You have a choice not to repeat the mistakes of the Obama/Biden era which, thankfully, course-corrected in the second term but you have now effectively reversed. Don’t let America irretrievably lose its moral compass on relations with Nigeria yet again. On this anniversary of George Floyd’s state murder and the approaching Memorial Day, do not dance on the graves of Nigerians murdered in fraudulent elections to foist a money launderer for drug cartels that destroyed American lives. Cancel the ignoble inauguration delegation now! https://newsexpressngr.com/news/191760-Tinubus-inauguration-US-lawyer-moves-to-block-government-delegation-writes-Biden-on-8-reasons-why-US-should-not-attend |

Politics / FG Approves Banks To Issue ATM Cards That Double As National Identity Card by farem: 7:34pm On May 25, 2023 |
FG approves banks to issue ATM cards that double as National Identity Card May 24, 2023 The Federal Government says Nigerians can now request their commercial banks to issue them with a debit card which doubles as their National Identity Card at no extra cost. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, who disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja, said the approval was obtained at the meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC. The meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. ad He explained that the approval followed a memo from the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, allowing banks to print a multipurpose debit cards that double as National identity cards. He said: ”It is going to be a form of multipurpose card where it will serve as your national identity card on one hand and also your bank card on the other hand, either Mastercard, Visa or any other kind of card.” According to Mr Pantami, although the NIMC Act 2007 only mandates Nigerians to have a National Identity Number and not necessarily a printout card, demands for cards have swelled nonetheless. “As in the NIMC Act 2007, section 27, what is mandatory for our citizens and legal residents is the acquiring of the National Identity Number, not the card. However, the card is optional. “But many citizens, particularly those living in rural communities, always go to NIMC offices complaining that they need the card at hand, even though it’s optional. “To make it easier, NIMC last year, we introduced a smart ID card you can download from NIMC app. It is just a smart card. You don’t need to have it physically, but that is becoming difficult for our people living in rural communities.” To ease the difficulty, Mr Pantami said NIMC had partnered with the Central Bank of Nigeria ”so that citizens who are interested in having a card at hand can easily go to the relevant banks.” According to him, the bank is permitted to print the card along with either Mastercard or Visa card. ”It is going to be a form of multipurpose card that will serve as your national identity card on one hand and also your bank card on the other. And based on the agreement, it is without any additional costs on our citizens. “So when you apply for a card at your bank, you can indicate that ‘I want this card to be multiple purpose where it will serve as my bank card and also my national identity card’. ”Both of them are going to be printed on the same card and it is going to serve the same purposes without any additional costs,” he said. The minister disclosed that NIMC and the CBN signed a nondisclosure agreement to protect the privacy and confidentiality of card applicants. “NIMC and the central bank signed a nondisclosure agreement where your privacy and your confidentiality must be respected in the course of providing the card for you. “When you apply for the card, the bank will apply online to NIMC through their database. ”When they verify and confirm that your record in the database is in alignment with your record in NIMC database, it will be permitted and the card is going to be printed for you immediately,” the minister added. The minister also said that FEC also approved a memo proposing the deployment of an automated system to integrate NINs with individual SIM cards. The system, he noted, would consolidate the implementation of the NIN-SIM linkage. He said “As we all know that previous administrations made efforts to verify NIN and SIM starting from 2011 without success. ”In February 2020, President Muhammadu Buhari approved the implementation of the policy and the revised version of the policy was also launched and unveiled by Mr. President on May 6, 2021. “As it stands today, the NIN and SIM policy registration is being implemented. In order to consolidate the implementation. “The Nigerian Communications Commission came up with a proposal that will enhance the implementation of the policy and bring many more benefits to it.” Mr Pantami said the automated system would sanitise the database and ease the process of SIM replacement for Nigerians or legal residents. https://dailynigerian.com/approves-banks-issue-atm-cards/ |

Properties / HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURE: See A Over-hundred Masterpiece Mansion In Nigeria by farem: 1:45pm On May 17, 2023 |
More than a century ago, there was a beautiful homestead located in Ilishan Remo, Ogun state, Nigeria. This homestead belonged to a man named Shonowo Owodunni, who was known for his love of architecture. The homestead was designed in a classic Nigerian style, with steeply pitched roofs and a thatch finish. The walls were made of red brick, and the windows were inset with colorful stained glass. The main house was a two-story structure, with a large foyer at the entrance. The living room was to the left, and it was decorated with plush cushions and earth-toned rugs. The dining room was situated opposite the living room, and it had an intricately carved wooden table that could seat 12 guests. Upstairs were the bedrooms, with the master bedroom boasting a large four-poster bed and a balcony that overlooked the gardens surrounding the homestead. There was also a library on this level, with shelves that reached the ceiling and were filled with books on various subjects. The homestead was surrounded by a lush garden, with a large courtyard and a fountain at the center. The courtyard was paved with beautiful tiles and decorated with colorful flowers and shrubs. Shonowo Owodunni was proud of his homestead, and he knew that it would serve as a legacy for many generations to come. He hoped that it would inspire others to appreciate the beauty of architecture and to create their own unique masterpieces in the years to come. — HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid0hS17DUsGHBkmAU118gxiXgobz399CnzCP3VhmizaGuGNR2zEAMWpGrEZiwSmQ4Eql&id=100063605832254&post_id=100063605832254_pfbid0hS17DUsGHBkmAU118gxiXgobz399CnzCP3VhmizaGuGNR2zEAMWpGrEZiwSmQ4Eql&mibextid=Nif5oz

Shettima: Senate president, speaker can’t be of same faith — it’ll fuel Islamisation agenda narrative Shettima: Senate president, speaker can’t be of same faith — it’ll fuel Islamisation agenda narrative AUTHOR: Idris Shehu MAY 13, 2023 8:58 AM Kashim Shettima, vice-president-elect, has implored lawmakers-elect to accept the zoning arrangement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the leadership of the 10th national assembly. Shettima spoke during a meeting some of the house of representatives members-elect on Friday. Earlier this week, controversy ensued within APC after the party nominated Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs, and Abbas Tajudeen, a house of representatives member from Kaduna, for the national assembly leadership positions. While Akpabio was nominated for president of the senate, Tajudeen was endorsed for the speaker of the house of representatives. Advertisement The party also nominated Barau Jibrin, senator representing Kano north, as deputy senate president, and Benjamin Kalu, a lawmaker from Abia and current house spokesperson, as deputy speaker. The nominations have been faulted by lawmakers within and outside the party and several attempts to mitigate the rift have proven futile so far. Speaking during the meeting with lawmakers-elect, Shettima said APC seeks to avoid a situation where all the top officials of the incoming administration would be of the same faith. Advertisement He said the circumstance could “validate the negative narrative of the Islamisation agenda of Nigeria”. Shettima added that the leadership of the forthcoming national assembly must be inclusive because the “stability of the nation is much more important than any other consideration”. “What we are trying to avoid is a situation whereby the number one citizen, number two citizen, the number three citizen, and the number four citizen are all of the same faith. That will lend credence, and validate the negative narrative of the Islamisation agenda of Nigeria,” the vice-president-elect said. ‘This is why my principal, a fair-minded leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is more inclined towards having the number three citizen from the South/south or the south-east. Even in the current circumstance that we find ourselves in, the stability of the nation is much more important than any other consideration. Advertisement “All other considerations have to be relegated to the background because we are talking about the stability of the nation. “We are talking about inclusivity, we are talking about togetherness because nation-building is a continuous work in progress and politics is about perception, it is about optics. I am quite glad that Benjamin Kalu will emerge as the deputy speaker. The hope for the black man rests with the people of this country.” https://www.thecable.ng/shettima-senate-president-speaker-cant-be-of-same-faith-itll-fuel-islamisation-agenda-narrative/amp |
