Politics / NNPC Manager Arraigned Over N285.2 Million Fraud. by fatdon1(m): 5:37am On Mar 09, 2013 |
By Abdulwahab Abdulah A former depot supervisor of Total Nigeria Plc, Emmanuel Abulude, was Friday arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before an Ikeja high court for allegedly stealing petroleum products worth N285.2 million. The former oil company official was charged on a one-count charge of stealing by fraudulent conversion before Justice Lateefa Okunnu with his company, Emmanbyink Ventures Limited. Abulude was alleged to have obtained the sum of N285.2 million representing the proceeds of 92 trucks of petroleum products between September 2011 and January 2012 . As a depot supervisor at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Mosimi, Lagos, the defendant was accused of failure to remit the sum to his employers. According to him, Abulude’s alleged offence contravene Section 285 (9)(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011. He however pleaded not guilty to the charge. Ruling on his bail application, Justice Okunnu granted him bail in the sum of N20 million with two sureties in like sum, while making it mandatory for the sureties to be gainfully employed and resident in Lagos State. She said one of the surety must own a property of substantial value in Lagos State while the other surety must be a blood relative of the defendant. She further ruled that the sureties are to produce evidence of three years tax clearance payable to the Lagos State Government, as she ordered the defendant to report once in a month at the EFCC office in Lagos throughout the duration of the case. The matter was adjourned to June 5 for trial. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/03/nnpc-manager-arraigned-over-n285-2-million-fraud/ |

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony attended by the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Justice Mrs Olatokunbo Olopade and immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Wemimo Ogunde (SAN), at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, Amosun recalled that this was the first time the entire top echelons of the justice system in the state would be manned by women. He told the two women to see their inauguration on “the day the world is celebrating International Women’s Day” as a call to service. ”We must ensure that the confidence reposed in us by the electorate is not misplaced,” he said. The state helmsman praised the immediate past AG, noting that “he worked diligently well.” The Oath of Allegiance, Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy were administered on the new officials by 9.15am. The new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mrs Abimbola Akeredolu, was born in 1964 and secured degrees and certificates at the University of Lagos as well as institutions in France and Italy. Her appointment brings the number of women in the Cabinet of Ogun State to 12, thus making the state the most gender-friendly in the country. Celebrities / “goldie Stole My Husband” – Ifeoma Harvey(former Best Friend) by fatdon1(m): 9:57am On Feb 18, 2013 |
Just when you thought the drama is over more stories keeps developing and even goes deeper Now a woman named Ifeoma Harvey(pictured), has come out to say that Goldie Harvey stole her husband(Andrew Harvey)! Ifeoma has taken to Facebook to say her part of the story where she claims that she and Goldie were best friends a while back. According to Ifeoma, Goldie waited for the opportune moment to elope with Andrew Harvey in Nigeria, while he was still married to Ifeoma. “She never knew that one day death would come calling,” says Ifeoma, “She rendered that man useless, took all his money and right now Andrew Harvey is lying in the hospital in Malaysia.” This part of the story seems to check out with Andrew Harvey’s claim that he is currently in Malaysia. Ifeoma went on: “Goldie went to Malaysia to visit the sick man before going to USA (for the Grammys) and came back to meet her mysterious death. Goldie is a liar, pretender and desperado. She wants to get money and fame at all cost… forced her trashy music down our throat, went to BBA and messed up with Prezzo… married woman indeed! Why is Andrew posting their so-called marriage pics now? Maybe the charm she used has cleared from his eyes! He should shut the hell up and pray for quick recovery from his sick bed in Malaysia. After that he can go back to London and beg his wife and two kids for forgiveness!” www.informationng.com/2013/02/goldie-stole-my-husband-ifeoma-harveyformer-best-friend.html

Politics / PDP Has Contempt For Yoruba, Nigerians, Says ACN. by fatdon1(m): 5:23pm On Feb 17, 2013 |
The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) has said the PDP is exposing its own folly by blaming the glaring marginalisation. of the Yoruba by the Jonathan Administration on the ACN, saying the PDP has nothing but total contempt for theYoruba in particular and Nigerians in general. Reacting to the allegation by Dr Doyin Okupe that the ”Yoruba people in the ACN conspired against the Yoruba” to scuttle the election of a Yoruba as House Speaker, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday that ACN is not bound by the shifty and phoney zoning formula of the PDP. ”If the PDP had indeed wanted a Yoruba as Speaker, the party should either have won enough seats in the South-west or used its majority in the House to push through its anointed candidate. Failure to ensure the election of its candidate is a reflection of the insincerity of the PDP about the zoning of the post to Yoruba and the gross indiscipline in the party of tattered umbrella. ”In any case, the last option open to the PDP would have been to support any other Yoruba for the post across party lines. We the ACN have very capable members in the House to serve as Speaker. But the truth is that the ruling party wants a PDP member, not a Yoruba, for the post. ”Therefore we are not surprised that the PDP easily acquiesced to the defeat of its Yoruba candidate for the post of Speaker of the House. The PDP zoning formula is pivoted on convenience rather than principle, After all, the zoning was easily jettisoned to pave the way for Jonathan to contest as President,” it said. ACN said even if the PDP had not succeeded in giving the post of House Speaker to Yoruba in accordance with its so-called zoning formula, it could have rewarded them with known choice ministries or other top appointments, instead of totally relegating a whole people into irrelevance in its scheme of things. The party slammed the PDP for playing the ethnic card, and rejected the cheeky and devilish move by the PDP to pigeon-hole the ACN into an ethnic cocoon. ”We are a national party and our spread attests to it. We have shown by supporting the election of Aminu Tambwal as Speaker of the House that our agenda is not sectional but national, and we have no apologies to offer for that ”Let the PDP continue to wallow in insufferable arrogance and disdain for the electorate, by sharing posts before elections are concluded. It is like sharing the parts of an animal that has yet to be killed. This is the stuff of which the PDP is made, and that is why it is crumbling now like a pack of cards,” it said. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/pdp-has-contempt-for-yoruba-nigerians-says-acn/ |

Celebrities / Police Arrest 2 Chainz…officers Wanted A Shot With The Rapper. by fatdon1(m): 7:03am On Feb 17, 2013 |
2 Chainz was arrested on Valentine’s Day on his way to a show, and what seems as the true reason behind his arrest may be the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever heard police do in the United States. The rapper was briefly locked up on his way to a show at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). He was pulled over with his entourage, but he was the only one arrested. His offence? Someone in his camp had a weed grinder in their possession. A furious 2 Chainz tweeted; “UMES we on the way, dam police f*ckn wit a n*gga, we fina turnUP…Locked me up and then Wanted pictures smh…We to jail for a grinder REALLY Show must go on much love UMES…I work hard and pray even harder, we gone always b good yall… Not to mention my security said it was his and they daid, he don’t smoke,, how da fuk u know? Haha wut a Valentine’s Day!!!” Apparently 2 Chainz was arrested for a shot with the officers – after all he was only found with a grinder. Nice way to ask for a shot with a celebrity. www.informationng.com/2013/02/police-arrest-2-chainz-officers-wanted-a-shot-with-the-rapper.html

Politics / Nigeria Is Becoming A Failed State – Prof. Ben Nwabueze by fatdon1(m): 6:54am On Feb 17, 2013 |
Former Secretary General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, SAN, yesterday, raised an alarm over the poor state of affairs in the country, saying “Nigeria is fast turning into a failed state.” Nwabueze, who spoke at the 14th annual convention of the Igbo Youth Movement, IYM, in Enugu, said the country was already displaying all the attributes of a failed state. According to him, “This country is on the verge of becoming a failed state, there are so many failed states in Africa and Nigeria is on the verge of getting that status of a failed state. ”Before now, we didn’t know about kidnapping, but it has become a way of life. Did we know about bombings before? But today, churches, schools, offices are being bombed on daily basis, the worst is that the bombers are not coming from outside the country, we are bombing ourselves. ”A nation that cannot provide a credible election for her people is a failed state; in 2003, 2011 we had no credible elections, yet we are talking about democracy. ”A country that cannot secure social and economic rights for her people is a failed state. Read chapter 2 of Nigeria’s constitution and you will understand what I am taking about, they are not leaders but looters”. |

Sports / Naija Government To Induct Super Eagles Members Into “hall Of Fame”. by fatdon1(m): 12:20pm On Feb 10, 2013 |
The Federal Government will make the present set of Super Eagles players the first inductees into the National Sports Hall of Fame. Sports Minister and Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Bolaji Abdulahi, disclosed this on Thursday night while addressing players and officials of the team. The Hall of Fame was recently approved by President Goodluck Jonathan. The Minister, who spoke to the team at their Garden Court Hotel abode in Milpark, South Africa, also said that the government has mapped out a heroic welcome for the team next Monday. He was accompanied to the event by the National Football Federation (NFF) President, Aminu Maigari and other important figures in Nigeria sports administration. He described the pride of the government at the exploits of the team so far at the African Cup of Nations and urged them to complete the job by winning the trophy. “Victory is not everything but victory is the only thing”, he declared, echoing American football coach Vince Lombardi as he challenged them to go all out for victory in the final against the Stallions of Burkina Faso in Soweto on Sunday. Maigari, on his part, thanked the government at the highest levels for the huge support the team has been receiving so far, saying that all obligations to the team has been met, thanks to express approval by the government at all spheres. The NFF President revealed that he has already received words from President Jonathan of another tele-conference with the team before the final, as the last one had highly motivated the players and the President feels they need his tonic to excel in Sunday’s grand finale. Head Coach Stephen Keshi, spoke in a similar vein, noting that the team has come too far in the competition to let its guard down. Skipper Joseph Yobo thanked the Minister for being there for his team, and assured that the team has resolved to unite and conquer the Nations Cup trophy for Nigeria. “We will not let Mr. President who has been so supportive down and we cannot let our families and the people of Nigeria down,” he said. “We are certain that the trophy will be won fair and square on Sunday.” speaking today, midfield star, John Mikel Obi, declared that the strength of the Nigerian team is the togetherness and unity that have been missing in the squad in the past. “We are together, united and playing for each other and that has accounted for where we are today. All credit must go to the coach who took a gamble on a very young squad, because I’m just 25 years old but am looking like the oldest in the team. This team will not only win the trophy on Sunday for the Nigerian people but will win many more trophies for a long time to come”. www.informationng.com/2013/02/naija-government-to-induct-super-eagles-members-into-hall-of-fame.html |

Politics / 2015: Bad News For Jonathan. by fatdon1(m): 9:34am On Feb 09, 2013 |
Alleging that President Goodluck Jonathan has not represented the South South region well, a group of eminent persons from the zone has chosen to join forces with the North to stop the rumoured re-election bid of the president. Towards this end, the South-South leaders, led by a former military administrator of Lagos State, General Patrick Newton Aziza, under the aegis of Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU), last week held a closed-door meeting with the leadership of pro-North group, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) in Kaduna. Details of what transpired during the closed-door discussion were, however, kept secret as journalists were only told that the meeting was “to re-ignite that longstanding relationship, keep it warm and energise it in our national political journey.” Saturday Sun can exclusively reveal that beyond what was made public, the South-South leaders were at the meeting to negotiate the future of their ethnic group after complaining bitterly about their disappointment with the administration of President Jonathan who incidentally is from the same region. One of the leaders, who joined General Aziza at the meeting, disclosed: “Without mincing words, we are not pleased with the Jonathan administration because we have since discovered that the president has given virtually everything due to the South-South to only his Ijaw people, leaving out the interest of other ethnic groups in the region unprotected.” When challenged to justify the basis of their angst against the Jonathan administration, the source said: “In this administration, the Urhobos do not have the smallest of political appointments, not even a special assistant. So, the government does not favour us in any way and that is not healthy. This informed our decision to seek cooperation with the North and other parts of the country, which can protect our interest in the next dispensation, that is in 2015. We can’t support someone who has failed and neglected us again. We need to take the destiny of our people in our hands and protect it.” A former governor of Edo State, Chief John Oyegun, who is the Chairman of the South-South Peoples Assembly (SSPA) led by President Jonathan’s kinsman and confidant, Chief Edwin Clark, however, described the UPU move as narrow- minded. He said though the Aziza group is a formidable team, it cannot, however, decide for the entire region. He also denied that the development was an indication of a crack in the political aspiration of the region. According to him: “I don’t think the visit of General Aziza and other leaders of UPU to ACF in Kaduna suggests a crack in the leadership of the South South. Everything boils down to the subject of their discussion. It could be on security, unity and others. Different groups can hold their meetings depending on their interest. But when the issue borders on the interest of the different geo-political zones, that is a totally different matter. Their visit does not portend any threat at all. Don’t forget that UPU has been there for a very long time though it is a very small unit and it covers only Urhobos. Urhobos are just a part of Delta, a majority part though. “Such groups will be doing their thing now, but when the time comes and we decide on the interest of our people, we will expect everybody to fall in line. When we get to that point, we will hold discussions with everybody and UPU will surely be part of that discussion. The issue of where the next president comes from is still too early. We have the presidency now and if our man is not going to contest, then the issue of who to support will then arise. But now, nothing like that yet. By then, we will decide where our interest lies given the alternatives that are on offer. “So, now is the time for a lot of movement, motions, body language but all that don’t affect the position of the South South because UPU does not represent the interest of the South-South; eventhough they are a very important group. We have immense respect for them, they are very well organised but they are not South-South.” All efforts to get General Aziza’s reaction, however, failed, as calls to his telephone line were neither picked nor text messages to the same replied. Answering questions after the closed-door meeting that lasted for two hours, Aziza had said: “We came to see our brothers; we had good deliberations over what is happening in Nigeria. The Arewas and Urhobos are not strange bedfellows. We share a long political history from the days of struggle for political independence from the British to the days of the First Republic and the post-military politics. We don’t want to bore you with the details of such political affinity and the historicisms, suffice to say, however, that such political affinity was based on mutual respect and equity. “We seek to re-ignite that longstanding relationship, keep it warm and energise it in our national political journey. ACF, in our mind, share many other similarities with the UPU. Just like the UPU, the ACF is a major platform of convergence of the Arewa people and the veritable positive force for engagement of her people. It also provides an avenue for the ventilation of the views and idea of the Arewa people on critical national issues. It is this similarity of purpose and mission statement in our mind that has convoked this august gathering.” On his part, ACF spokesman, Anthony Sani, said that the problem of the country has been suspicion among ethnic groups, adding: “But it is a good thing that the Urhobos have come around.” He said, the coming of the Urhobos to the North would eliminate the suspicion, more so that the ACF itself has begun nationwide tour of ethnic groups for peaceful co-existence. www.247nigerianewsupdate.com/2015-bad-news-for-jonathan/ |

Any gang war or organised crime targeted at health workers, hospital patients, orphans, students, pupils and defenseless citizens is a cowardly act. It should be condemned by all and sundary. If the terrorists have any presentable reservation against the Polio project they should say it; but if bkos they are in a hurry to commit suicide, and wish that the lives of younger genrations epitomised by babies who deserve preventable health vacines against deadly diseases should be forsaken; then they terrorists do not deserve fresh air or peace for their ungodly resoves.

Politics / Jonathan Condemns Killing Of Health Workers In Kano. by fatdon1(m): 6:28am On Feb 09, 2013 |
President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday condemned the killing of nine female health workers shot dead at community health centres during seperate attacks in Kano State. Reacting to the killings, President Goodluck Jonathan ordered security agencies to provide maximum security to health workers who are engaged in administering polio vaccines to children in high risk areas. Jonathan condemned “the dastardly terrorist attacks in Kano State which claimed the lives of health workers who were dutifully engaged in vaccinations to protect and save the lives of Nigerian children.” The female health workers were Friday morning shot dead at community health centres during seperate attacks in Kano State. Eyewitness told Vanguard that that the first offensive on the polio workers which started at Filin Kashu, Ungwa-Uku General area left two dead and four others critically injured. The sources said that the gunmen who moved about on tricycles arrived at the community health centre by 9.00am and opened fire on the defenseless paramedics before escaping in the ensuing pandemonium Seven other female health workers were also killed at the Community Health Centre, Hotoro Haye. It was gathered that the assailants also went to the health centre on a tricycle and sprayed the female workers with bullets while on duty. Commenting on the development, the Kano Commissioner of Health, Dr Abubakar Yusuf explained that “six were shot at Ungwa-Uku but two died while 4 survived”. The state Police Public Relation Officer, PPRO, Kano Police Command, ASP, Magaji Majia confirmed that “nine female health workers were shot dead in separate attacks.” Majia further stated that the “the dead bodies of the nine female health workers have been deposited at the Murtala Muhammad Hospital mortuary in the city,” adding however that “no arrests have been made in connection with the killings, but investigations have commenced. www.vanguardngr.com/2013/02/jonathan-condemns-killing-of-female-health-workers-in-kano/ |
Politics / PDP Is The Messi Of Nigerian Politics – Tukur To Opposition Parties. by fatdon1(m): 1:20pm On Feb 07, 2013 |
On Wednesday, the battle for the soul of Nigeria intensified when a coalition of four opposition political parties in Abuja, announced the name of their new party, All Progressive Congress. The parties that merged to form the APC are the Action Congress of Nigeria, All Nigeria Peoples Party, All Progressive Grand Alliance and Congress for Progressive Change. Reacting to the unveiling of the new name, the National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, said that his party was not losing sleep over the development as the merger of the opposition did not pose any threat to the PDP. Tukur, in what seemed like a boast of the strength and spread of the PDP said there was no polling unit in the country where his party was not represented, submitting that the “weak political parties” were coming together because they realised that individually, they did not have the strength to go into war with the PDP. He described the ruling party as the Messi of Nigerian politics. Messi, an Argentine striker with Barcelona of Spain, is the current holder of the Ballon d’Or title and is reputed to be a master of the game. Tukur said, “It does not mean that we want to be a party without opposition, in fact opposition is a charge to action. “People tend to believe that when they see people coming together they will do well. If they have the strength why do they come together? “If you go for a contest you have the striker, you know Lionel Messi? PDP is Messi in that contest. They (opposition) are not a threat at all; it is better, it will inspire the PDP to action. In that contest (merger) tell them Chairman said PDP is the Messi.” www.informationng.com/2013/02/pdp-is-the-messi-of-nigerian-politics-tukur-to-opposition-parties.html 1 Like |
Politics / Jonathan’s Non-performance Is Written All Over – SNG by fatdon1(m): 3:12pm On Feb 06, 2013 |
Following the challenge thrown by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe on Monday that the opposition parties should produce evidence of the alleged incompetence of the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan or forever maintain silence, the Save Nigeria Group (SNG), the group that championed the enthronement of Dr. Jonathan as acting president in the wake of the political brouhaha that greeted the ill-health of late President Umaru Yar‘Adua in its reaction said: “The non-performance of the president is written all over the landscape of Nigeria.” In its reaction articulated by its spokesperson, Mr Yinka Odumakin the group mockingly remarked thus: “We can see it in the way the Boko Haram militants have been dealt with, that today everybody feels safe and secure. We have seen how kidnappers have been chased into their holes and we can see how all our roads and infrastructure have been fixed. We have seen how we have uninterrupted power supply in the country today.” While faulting the presidency over the yardsticks used in measuring the president’s acclaimed performance, Odumakin said: “So, these are the measurements of the president’s performance which Dr Okupe is celebrating; and through his performance, Nigeria is now an eldorado where all our embassies throughout the world are being flooded with foreigners who want to come to Nigeria to see the good things happening in Nigeria? The performance we are talking about is only visible to the Okupes, the Abatis and Makus who surround the president but to the people of Nigeria, they are yet to see that competence which they are celebrating” he stressed. www.informationng.com/2013/02/jonathans-non-performance-is-written-all-over-sng.html |
