Politics / 13 Police Killed, 6 Others Injured In Auto Accident. by fatdon1(m): 7:36pm On Jan 20, 2013
No fewer than 13 police recruits
were burnt to death while six others
were critically injured in an auto
accident on Sunday in Omu-Aran,
Kwara. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
reports that the newly posted
recruits were said to be on their way
to Nassarawa State when the
accident occurred at about 10 a.m. The accident occurred on the Omu-
Aran-Ilofa road at the same spot
where a commercial motorcyclist
died in an auto accident in December
2012. NAN reports that an unspecified
number of women were among the
dead in the accident involving an 18-
seater bus and a Mercedes Benz 190
model. Most of the occupants of the bus,
which took off from Ilorin, were said
to be of Kwara origin and had just
finished their police training. NAN gathered that they were on an
exchange posting to Nassarawa
State. According to an eye witness, the
Mercedes Benz car marked AC 345 DKA
was heading toward Omu-Aran
before it had an head-on collision
with the bus close to the Federal
Government College. The number plate of the bus was
squeezed to pulp following the
impact of the accident making
identification impossible. Another eyewitness and auto
mechanic, Mr Adekunle Azeez, told NAN
that the driver of the car, who was
critically injured, had lost grip of the
steering wheel and rammed into the
bus. “The car was on top speed on its
way toward Omu-Aran and I think the
driver lost grip of the steering wheel
and swerved before ramming into
the bus “The bus immediately caught
fire,” he said. The 13 corpses, which were burnt
beyond recognition, had been
deposited at the morgue by officials
of the FRSC. Those who sustained injuries were
taken to the Omu-Aran General
Hospital for treatment. The Divisional Police Officer in Omu-
Aran, Mr Rasak Adebayo, confirmed
the incident and said his command
had started investigations. (NAN)

Politics / Nigerians Are Beginning To See That Jonathan Is Clueless – CPC. by fatdon1(m): 5:53pm On Jan 20, 2013
National Publicity Secretary of the Congress
for Progressive Change, CPC, Mr. Rotimi
Fashakin, has reacted to the presidency’s
declaration that Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari
is not a force to be reckoned with saying
indeed, the former head of state was a threat to the PDP. According to Fashakin, the determination of
the opposition parties to bring the merger
into reality was a threat to the dominance of
the PDP. He said, “For us in the CPC, we are aware that
the persons in charge of the presidency’s
propaganda got their jobs for the
mendacious and utterly atrocious missive
against the person of Buhari. Truly, Buhari’s
presence has been the major threat to the misrule of PDP in the last 13 years. Successive
PDP regimes have unleashed humongous
deprivations on the people.” The CPC spokesman stated that Buhari’s
performance as military head of state was
better when compared with Jonathan’s. “The 20-month era of strong leadership
espoused what later became known as
‘Buharinomics,’ which simply put, was an
admixture of frugality, probity, respect for
contractual agreements, expunction of all
covert or overt attempts at subjugating the Nigerian economy to world powers and above
all, an economic policy with Nigeria as the
centrepiece “Gratefully, the cluelessness of this present
regime and its high propensity for opacity are
already lifting the veil off the people. The
determination of the opposition parties to
bring the merger into reality shall ensure the
defeat of the PDP in the next general elections” Fashakin reiterated.

Celebrities / Kanye West Is Gay?(pics) by fatdon1(m): 3:26pm On Jan 20, 2013
It's probably BS but quite a number of people are taking his claims quite seriously because Bryan Boy is one of the most popular and most respected fashion bloggers in the world. He was dubbed by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour as the 4th most influential fashion writer online. Some top designers invite him specially to see their collection before they showcase it...so he's a really big deal in the fashion scene...plus he's gay!

Bryan Boy claimed on Twitter yesterday that Kanye's gay lover is Riccardo Tisci, the creative director of Givenchy, and the creator of the cover art of Kanye and Jay Z's album 'Watch The Throne', plus Riccardo was one of the people who influenced Kanye's foray into fashion. Bryan Boy also doesn't believe that Kim is having Kanye's baby. See his Tweets below

Politics / Igbos Can’t Produce President With Five States. by fatdon1(m): 2:39pm On Jan 09, 2013
By Emmanuel Onwe THE theoretical case for the
emergence of a Nigerian
president of Igbo extraction has
been eloquently established
beyond any reasonable doubt.
The economic case is persuasive; the legal case, which is a derivate
of the constitutional principle of
federal character, is
incontrovertible; the political
case is self-evident and the
moral case is utterly compelling. But the establishment of the case
at the intellectual and
theoretical plane is quite clearly
insufficient to meet the rigorous
demands of our ambition.
Genuine ambition is contingent upon action. Ndigbo have, for decades,
expressed the desire and the
thirst for the prime political
office in this country. We have
clearly shown, by oral advocacy,
why we have that desire and thirst. Now we must take the
forward steps in the direction of
the oasis from which we hope to
quench our thirst for justice and
our desire for equity in Nigeria.
The next step is the crusade that
will take our case to the other
three cardinal points of our
nation – West, South and North.
The legwork and mobilisation
that must underpin the theoretical case has been
commenced by Njiko Igbo. Igbos
should crave, plead and obtain –
rather than presume, expect or
demand – the support and
solidarity of all Nigerians. The component tribal groups
that make up the Nigerian
republic have unique experiences
arising from their history of
participation in the union; but
none is quite as unique as the Igbo experience, made so by
being the only tribe to have
pledged allegiance to two
different nations within the same
territorial borders – first to
Nigeria and then to the Republic of Biafra and then back to the
Federal Republic of Nigeria. In
between this shifting citizenship
have occurred pogrom/genocide,
starvation and conquest. This history and experience place
us in a complex category in our
union. And no Igbo citizen should
be in any doubt that our quest
for the presidency has remained
a mirage precisely because of this unique experiential history –
and nothing to do with the
popular myth about disunity
amongst us. Accordingly, our
challenge in attaining the prime
office in this land remains herculean and requires efforts
of corresponding proportions to
prevail. No authentic Igbo citizen should
fold his or her arms and wait to
be recruited into, or consulted
about, this dream. Instead, our
recruitment efforts and
consultations should be directed at non-Igbo Nigerians. The focus
of our pleas and arguments
should be firmly directed at
those who remain unpersuaded
or unsympathetic to the justice
of our cause. This crusade is an Igbo one, the
staff and the rod is Njiko Igbo.
But Njiko is not claiming an
exclusive right to arms. Other
warriors are welcome and, in
fact, encouraged to rise to the occasion. Our job is to motivate,
consult, mobilise and persuade
both Igbos and non-Igbos alike.
Additionally, Njiko Igbo is a
platform for debate and
exploration of deeper ideas about the place of Ndigbo in the
Nigerian federation. What I have said elsewhere bears
repetition on these pages: “As an
Igbo man, I harbour a deep sense
of sadness at the manner in
which we, as a people, have been
consigned to the peripheral reaches of the Nigerian power
structure for more than four
decades. Where is the justice or
equity or the idea of equal
opportunities in a pluralistic
society such as ours? “When shall these be accorded
Ndigbo in order that we can have
the assurance that, yes, we are
not Osu (outcasts) in a nation
family where we have played a
brave and distinguished role to make its history more solid and
more enduring? As a Nigerian,
observing our unending national
degradation, I feel a sense of
outrage that the Igbo option
appears never to be in contemplation as a legitimate
instrumentality through which
our national challenges could be
finally confronted in a manner
that could genuinely yield
transformation.” Of course, it’s self evident that
we cannot achieve our goal
without first putting our house
in order. We must show a unity of
purpose which must be
demonstrated through the pursuit of this one and
irreducible ambition. It will entail the sacrifice of the
personal on the altar of the
collective – which must be
demonstrated through allowing
ourselves to be dedicated to a
purpose greater than our individual selfish commitments.

The police in Niger state have arrested Mr. Godwin Edeko, a 500 level student of the Federal University of Technology, Minna for allegedly cutting off his girlfriend head after having carnal knowledge of her for three days. Some of the neighbours who spoke
to Channels Television explained that
they became suspicious when they
heard the dead girl, simply identified
as Hanatu, screaming and the
suspect dashing out of his room. They further mentioned that after
some time without hearing any sound
from the girl who had been with the
suspect for three days without
coming out, they forcefully opened
the door of the room only to find the headless body of Hanatu with blood
stains all over the room. Niger State Police Public Relation
Officer, Pius Edoko while confirming
the incident explained that although
the suspect had confessed to the
crime, the command is yet to
establish the motive of the crime. He however said the investigation is
ongoing with a view to crack down
other people involved in the crime as
the severed head was recovered
from an uncompleted building in
Bosso.

Politics / Better Salary And Welfare Packages Coming For Police Officers – IGP. by fatdon1(m): 8:15pm On Jan 07, 2013
Inspector General of Police, Muhammad
Abubakar, has revealed that a new salary
structure is being worked out for men of the
Nigeria Police to compare with their
counterparts abroad, the Police boss also
noted that by the middle of the year, 700 housing units would have been delivered to
officers in the inspectorate rank and file
cadre. Abubakar, who made this known at a get-
together of inspectors/rank and files, said the
year would be a better one for members of
the police as plans are ongoing towards
working out a new salary structure for them,
just as the Police had started to feed its officers who are on duty at the force
headquarters. According to him, “by the special grace of God
in 2013, I am putting every effort to ensure
that anywhere a policeman is on duty, he will
be fed,” saying these were measures being
taken to ensure that the officers were given
the benefit they deserved while in service. Therefore, towards this end, a technical
committee has been set up to look at the issue
of welfare, particularly the issue of salary
and allowances of members of the Nigerian
Police. The IG also assured that they are
putting all this efforts to ensure that they are guided to ensure that their officers are
respected, to ensure that Nigerians
understand what they should do and what
they should not do.

Politics / Atiku’s Aides Expose Obasanjo’s Corruption. by fatdon1(m): 5:46pm On Jan 07, 2013
A new book published by the media aides of Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has detailed the high handedness and the corruption of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, under whom Atiku served for eight years.
According to a report by Thisday, the new
book is entitled: “Atiku Media Office: The Wars,
The Victories,” Thisday reported that “presents the grim
details of how Obasanjo crippled his deputy,
Atiku, in office at the height of their
disagreement in 2003. The book also spoke about how Obasanjo
who “in 1999 had less than N20, 000 in his bank
account” grew to acquire monumental assets. The former vice-president’s spokesman,
Mallam Shehu Garba, “and others” authored
the book, said Thisday. On Obasanjo’s assets, the authors wrote: “It
is, however, ironic that the same EFCC
(Economic and Financial Crimes Commission),
whose only allegation against Atiku Abubakar
is authorisation of placement of deposits in
interest-yielding bank accounts, failed to see anything wrong or even curious is a situation
where Obasanjo who in 1999 had less than
N20,000 in his bank account managed to
acquire several highly mechanised multi-million
naira farms in all the six geo-political zones of
the country; Obasanjo palm oil farms in Calabar; his farm at Oke-Ogun area of Oyo
State, the biggest of its kind in Africa; big fish
farms in Lanlate and Ota; a big poultry farm in
Ibogun and oil palm and estate at Ehuuagie,
Rivers State. “As if that was not enough, Obasanjo’s
investments allegedly stretch across all
sectors of the economy with such ventures as
the multi-million naira Temperance Hotel, Ota;
the Bells Secondary School and University;
Transcorp, which owns the Abuja Hilton, NITEL, oil blocks; steel company, as well as a
speculated interest in the Aluminium Smelter
Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) in Ikot-Abasi,
which was allegedly sold to foreign interests
allegedly at a price believed to be far below
its actual value.” “In a revealing chapter titled, “Constitutional
and Political Background to the Obasanjo/
Atiku Conflict,” the authors also traced the
history of Obasanjo’s emergence as president
in 1999 to the efforts of some retired military
generals who collaborated with the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) machine of the
late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, then being led by
Atiku. “Although Atiku would later emerge
Obasanjo’s running mate and subsequently
vice-president, General Ibrahim Babangida, Lt.
General Aliyu Mohammed Gusau (rtd) and a
few Northern leaders who supported
Obasanjo did not take kindly to this arrangement, according to the authors. “The problem between Obasanjo and Atiku,
the authors said, started with the 2003
presidential election against an earlier
alleged expectation that the former
president would spend only one term. “The authors detailed how Obasanjo
deployed EFCC to fight the ex-vice president
on charges of corruption and how the former
president took over the Peoples Democratic
Party and appointed his men as party leaders. “According to them, the former president
began to cripple Atiku by moving to “control
such petty things as allocation of staff
vehicles, office and residential
accommodation or determine who should be
entitled to lunch at the State House.

Lagosians Must Be More Vigilant — Fashola.

Governor Babatunde Fashola of Nigeria’s Lagos State has called on Lagosians to be extremely vigilant this year in order to nip in the bud any form of upheaval in the state.

The governor also urged Lagosians to shun every form of sentiment and live in harmony as brothers and sisters.

Fashola spoke at the 2013 annual thanksgiving service held at the State House, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria on Sunday.

The governor said there was the need to be vigilant in order to prevent avoidable loss of life, adding that the nation would be better for it if Nigerians de-emphasise divisive sentiments such as ethnic and religious sentiments. The governor stated that Lagosians should be more careful both at home and in their business premises, saying that “you have probably heard of multipurpose halls but we are gradually making multipurpose homes.

He pointed out that when people convert their homes into multipurpose buildings, they attract avoidable accidents.”

“What binds us together as a people are more than what divides us. Let us emphasise on those things that bind us together as a people and play down on such divisive sentiments as ethnic and religious sentiments,” he stated.

He said 2012 was an eventful year, recalling the Dana plane crash that claimed 153 lives and the series of bloodshed in some parts of the nation.

Fashola commended Lagosians for the collective will with which they rallied round to render assistance during the rescue operation and in giving support to the relatives of victims of the disaster.

“The sheer number of volunteers, hospital staff, donors and relief workers who went above and beyond the call of duty to bring succour, safety and comfort to families and dependents of the deceased made me especially proud to be a Lagosian.

“So, we have shown over the last year that whenever there has been a major incident, we have the collective wherewithal and capacity to rise to the occasion,” he stated.

In his sermon, the General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, urged Nigerians to embrace new ways of life if they wanted to get God’s blessings this year, assuring that 2013 would be a better year than the previous.

According to him, he had discovered that the world is a university and like all wise men, he would learn every day, saying that he had made seven New Year resolutions that could be of benefits to others.

“My number one resolution is that I have decided to worship God in 2013 like never before. I will open my mouth to tell God exactly how things are with me,” he said, while advising Nigerians to humble themselves more than ever before and not be afraid to ask anybody for help as long as he could solve the problem. He appealed to Nigerians to give to God cheerfully and depend less on men, adding that “We must work closely with God and also not do anything that will annoy him.”

The Prayer for the cessation of all manner of violent crimes in Lagos State and Nigeria was led by Pastor Samuel, a representative of the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles, Pastor (Dr.) Daniel Olukoya, while Pastor Sam Adeyemi of Daystar Christian Centre led the prayer for children and Youth of Nigeria.

Pastor Ikechukwu Ugbaja, representing the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Rev. Felix Meduoye, led the prayer for the economic prosperity of Lagos State and Nigeria.

Also present at the occasion were members of the State Executive Council, including the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Ben Akabueze, wife of the General Overseer of RCCG, Pastor (Mrs.) Folu Adeboye, first civilian Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande and his wife; former chairman Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Prince Rabiu Oluwa, Senator Muniru Muse, Mr. Ayo Opadokun, religious and traditional rulers, members of the choir of different church organisations, dignitaries from all walks of life and top government functionaries.

Ripple effects of the Mo’Hits split is surprisingly still lingering as Dbanj is said to be giving up on Koko Lounge for reasons a little still connected to is old crew.
It was revealedl that D’Banj is no longer part
of the owners of Koko Lounge. Story has it
that Koko Lounge was co-owned by 3 people,
D’banj was one of the trio. The reasons for
the break out of D’Banj was said to be
because he felt he wasn’t making enough profit from the bar. Our source revealed that one of the owners
of Koko Lounge is based abroad and is not
usually around to manage and do his duties
for the business but instead is only interested
in the profit available anytime he’s present in
the country which didn’t go down well with the other owners as profit depreciated with
time. “Dilution of the Mo’Hits Crew” was part of the
agreement as at the time when the bar was
launched. The bar takes responsibility of
supplying the defunct Mo’Hits crew drinks.
This also affect profit maximazation. The third owner porpularly called “Baba” has

Politics / Jonathan Administration Is Discriminating Against Yoruba In Government – ARG. by fatdon1(m): 7:55am On Jan 05, 2013
The Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) has called
on the Federal Government to stop ethic
discrimination, which he claimed had been
meted out to the Yoruba race by the
Jonathan-led administration. This was made known by the National
Chairman of the ARG, Chief Olawale Oshun,
while speaking at a recent forum in Lagos to
discuss the state of the nation. The ARG
scored the current national leadership low on
the issues, adding that the situation of the average Nigerian at the end of last year was
worse than the beginning. Chief Oshun insisted that the South-West had
been short-changed on a number of national
projects which included appointments into
key positions, including the total number of
the Yoruba among the 792 Customs cadets
recently inducted in the country. According to him, “The Yoruba demand to
know why discrimination against us is on the
increase. We note with verifiable evidence at
our disposal, that most routine appointments
and recruitments into the public service under
this administration completely short-change our people,” the ARG chairman said.

Crime / Two Killed, Five Injured As Robbers Raid Bank In Osun. by fatdon1(m): 8:47am On Dec 20, 2012
Two persons were killed by armed robbers while no fewer than five others sustained injuries during a bank robbery in Ikirun, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun.
The robbery attack lasted half an
hour at the Ikirun branch of a new
generation bank. It was learnt that security agents
attached to the bank and residents
took to their heels on sighting the
armed robbers. An eye witness said that the robbers,
whose number could not be
ascertained, arrived the bank on new
Inisha road at about 4.00p.m. and
carted away an unspecified amount
of money. The hoodlums were said to have shot

Nairaland / General / Waste Disposal Worker Finds 18 Million Naira Cash In Rubbish. by fatdon1(m): 12:20pm On Dec 19, 2012
A worker at a waste disposal site has found 10,000 yen cash in a stream of pulverised rubbish, police say.

“There were about a thousand (10,000) yen (N 18, 080, 000) bills that came out of a pulveriser unscathed,” a spokesman at the Asaminami police department in Hiroshima prefecture, in Japan’s west, said today.

He added that there were also 2300 fragments of bills destroyed by the machine at a municipal facility that processes large waste, such as cupboards and mattresses, that cannot be collected by regular garbage pick-up.

Police suspect the owner of the cash might have forgotten the money was there when he or she threw away some furniture.

“We believe it is unlikely there is anything criminal in this, although we must say we don’t know much about this money at all,” the spokesman said.

The cash was found on Monday. If no one comes forward within three months, the waste disposal facility will have the right to claim the money, the spokesman said.
