I believe the custom is to wear it on your left wrist if you’re right-handed and to wear it on your right if you’re left-handed. It just makes sense when you’re adjusting flywheels and throwing lariats, huh? Also, if you’re a righty and your watch is on the left, it’s going to be easier to set and wind (assuming you’re a nonquartz traditionalist). Aside from that, who cares? |

Lola Omotayo-Okoye has made a shocking revelation that she was once a victim of child molestation in the hands of a Catholic Priest. Lola made this revelation while she was addressing young ladies at the Kinabuti Dare2Dream event. The mother of two told the girls that while she was in high school, she was molested by a Catholic priest, but couldn't tell anyone because she thought no one was going to believe her. “When I was a young girl in high school I was molested by a catholic priest and blamed myself. I was a child, I didn’t know any better, I didn't know what to think, I didn't know what to believe, I didn't know how to feel. I blamed myself, I didn’t tell anyone, I was embarrassed, I was ashamed. I didn't know if anyone was going to believe me and I didn't even know if anybody was going to believe me. I felt like I did something wrong. For many years, that incident stuck with me, I became rebellious, I was filled with hate, I didn't want to listen to anyone and it turned me into a very angry person,” Lola Omotayo-Okoye said during a speech which was themed around not letting your past define you. She further revealed that she was also in an abusive relationship while she was in the university in America before breaking out to start a new life of her own. She also told the girls that she was questioned and mocked when she started dating a then up and coming musician in the person of her husband and music star, Peter Okoye of the PSquare fame. www.pulse.ng/religion/lola-omotayo-okoye-peter-okoye-s-wife-recalls-how-she-was-molested-by-a-catholic-priest-id3352490.html www.bellanaija.com/2014/12/16/wow-lola-omotayo-okoye-reveals-she-was-molested-by-a-priest-beaten-by-an-ex-more-watch-her-inspiring-video/

Ladi Dosei Kwali (1925-1983) popularly known as Dr Ladi Kwali was born in 1925 in Kwali town in the present Federal Capital Territory, Abuja,Nigeria. Probably she is the best known of the Abuja potters. Making pots was women’s work in Kwali and the entire Gwari villages, therefore Ladi came to Abuja (the then Suleja) with knowledge of traditional Gwari pottery. She did not at first take to the idea of using wheels and kilns and the other paraphernalia of the European potter, but proved to have a natural ability to throw. She was picked from her traditional home Kwali to the then Abuja the present Suleja because of her natural ability in making pots. The Abuja Pottery Training Centre was established 1950 by an English potter, Michael Cardew, who was sent to the Abuja area by the then colonial government, ostensibly to improve the quality of local work. But he found himself, for the next 15 years, in a symbiotic working relationship with local potters, in which he taught and was taught by potters like Ladi Kwali. While Cardew introduced wheels and kilns to the centre, he also learnt about traditional firing methods and ornamentation. Kwali on the other hand, was initially reluctant to adapt to the wheel, preferring the spiralled coil method of building pots. She however, discovered she had a natural flair for the wheel. Cardew encouraged her to decorate her work, something she had not done before, and he even fired some of her traditional work in the Abuja kiln. Ladi was later to become a very popular member of the touring lecture team; her easy nature and ability to communicate made her well liked and appreciated in Europe, Britain and America. She became Nigeria’s best known potter and has been honoured in many ways; she was given a doctorate. https://www.newrepublic.com/sites/default/files/u31592/article_inset_benfey_2.jpg Kwali with Cardew Credits: www.newsrepublic.com By the time she died in 1983, Dr Ladi Kwali was Nigeria’s best known potter. She left a rich legacy of her work and a school of ‘students’ who picked up from where she left at the Abuja Pottery Training Centre. Over the next decade, her ornamentation skills became more sophisticated, and probably because of improved firing methods, she had the opportunity to exhibit her work in Europe in 1958, 1959 and 1962. Her pottery was also displayed during Nigeria’s independence celebrations in 1960. Dr Ladi Kwali remained associated with the Abuja pottery works till she died. She gave lectures and demonstrations at home and abroad on her craft throughout her career. https://img.antiquesreporter.com.au/090719SHSY/183.jpg Credits: http://img.antiquesreporter.com.au/ Source: www.kwalilobwoiunion.org/dr-ladi-kwali/

Governor Fashola Declares Friday as Public Holiday for Lagos Workers; says “INEC owes Lagos an Explanation on the Disappearance of 1.447 Million Voters from the Lagos Voters’ List ” * Ahead the distribution of the Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs, in Lagos, Governor Babatunde Fashola has queried the disappearance of 1.447 million voters from the Lagos voters’ list and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to explain the disappearance. This coming as the governor declared Friday as holiday for all public servants to enable them collect their PVCs. The distribution of the PVCs kicks off in Lagos on Friday and will end on Sunday. During a statewide broadcast on Wednesday, Fashola said he was shocked that INEC declared that it would distribute 4.8 million PVCs in Lagos State, whereas, during the last election in 2011, the voters’ list in Lagos was 6.247 million voters. “I am concerned about the report of 4.8 million voters in Lagos State. INEC owes us explanation. During the last election, the voters’ list in Lagos was 6,247,845 voters. We want to know how 1,447,804 million voters disappeared from the voters’ list. “I am worried whether this is the beginning of a plan to disenfranchise Lagosians to vote. Our government will stand for all eligble voters to have their names in the register unless INEC could prove why their names were missing on the lists. “INEC has to show to us what has suddenly changed, there must be explanation. It does not make sense to say we are 6.247 million and now say we are 4.8 million. There must be explanation,” he reiterated. The governor added that with the commencement of the distribution of the PVCs, election process had already begun, urging eligible voters who have turned 18 years to go and register. “You have to register as a voter to be eligible to vote. We must take it seriously to make sure our names are in the voters register. Go to the polling centre to collect your PVC. No business or job can be more important than to collect your PVC. Between 7-9 November, for those who want to collect the PVC, they should go our and collect them,” he said. The governor stated that for those who had lost their temporary voters card and had not registered previously, there is a provision for them to begin fresh registration between 12 and 17 November. Those who have not register or cannot find their names should register on 12-17 November. This is in the second phase. Fashola added that civil servants would have Frday as work-free day to collect their PVCs, while appealing to other employers of labour to close for work early on Friday to allow their workers to go out to collect their cards. www.dailypost.ng/2014/11/06/voter-card-collection-lagos-declares-friday-public-holiday-begs-private-sector-close-early/ |
