Three lecturers at the Bayero University, Kano and two other persons have sued President Goodluck Jonathan, the National Assembly, CAN president and four others at the Federal High Court in Kano over the recent attempt to smuggle $9.5m to South Africa to purchase weapons. In a 25-page suit, Dr. Sa’idu Ahmad Dukawa, Dr. Salisu Shehu, Isa Ibrahim Garba, Kamilu Hassan Kwatawa and Umar Jibrin Gwandu want President Jonathan, who is the first defendant, to explain whether his claim of the authorisation of the transaction in question in violation of extant domestic and international laws amounts to a breach of his oath and abuse of power. The plaintiffs want the president to make full and honest disclosure of every material information connected with the money, whether it really belongs to the federal government and identify the two other persons arrested in connection with the said transaction. They also want Jonathan to explain why despite having 10 official planes he decided to use a private jet belonging to Pastor Ayodele Oritsejafor, and why he opted for an illegal route of purchasing the weapons and explain reasons for ferrying cash instead of using modern method of financial transactions. www.africanspotlight.com/2014/10/09/9-3m-arms-deal-lecturers-sue-jonathan-oritsejafor-national-assembly/ www.aitonline.tv/post-lecturers_sue_jonathan__oritsejafor__national_assembly_over__9_3m_arms_deal |

Dangote, has slipped down to 26th position from the 23rd position he occupied since March this year. The Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Group’s real time net worth also reduced to $23.7bn from $25bn, according to the Forbes ranking. Other Nigerians on the billionaires list are Globacom’s Mike Adenuga, BUA Group’s Abdulsama Rabiu and Fashion billionaire Folorunsho Alakija. Dangote recently looked beyond cement, sugar and flour - the three commodities that built his fortune - to the oil business. He had announced $9bn in financing from a consortium of local and international lenders to construct a private oil refinery, fertilizer and petrochemical complex in the country. His publicly traded Dangote Cement is also grabbing new markets in Africa, with $750m in new plants planned for Kenya and Niger Republic. Dangote also announced on Thursday new plans to invest an undisclosed sum in the development of a major coal mine in Tanzania, even as he continues to expand his business interests across the continent. According to Tanzania’s Guardian newspaper, Dangote revealed his plans last week when he met Tanzania’s Vice President Dr. Mohammed Gharib Bilal, during the Africa Global Business Forum in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Dangote said he plans to invest significantly in the Mbinga coal mine in Tanzania’s southwestern region, and to use the coal to produce energy at his cement plant in Mtwara which is currently under construction. When completed, the Dangote Cement plant will produce three million tonnes of cement per year, almost half of the country’s net production. During Africa’s Global Business Forum in Dubai, Dangote, who recently went into an agreement with the Investment Corporation of Dubai to explore other business opportunities across Africa, applauded Tanzania for its favorable investment policies and promised that cement production will commence immediately the plant is completed. www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/business/36298-dangote-drops-three-places-in-forbes-ranking-now-26th-richest-in-the-world

Today is the 2nd year remembrance of Aluu 4 victims. Two years later and no one has paid for their brutal killing on Friday morning October 5th 2012. We are still hoping that justice will one day be served. Continue to rest in peace, Chidiaka Biringa, Lloyd Michael, Tekena Elkanah and Ugonna Obuzor. Many people are reported to be trapped in a club house which is undergoing make over from a bungalow to a storey building in Abuja on Friday . The collapsed building is believed to trap many people under the rubbles most of whom are menial labourer and customers at Phase IV road in Jikwoyi , Abuja . Four persons have been pulled out of the collapsed building alive by rescue workers hours after the incident and were immediately rushed in ambulances to nearby hospitals , while voices of those trapped under the rubbles calling were heard . Many of them called for help while informing the public that they were still alive Workers of the club named ‘ Mimshack Arena ’ were panicking , crying while showing rescue officials around the collapsed site . Daily Trust says one of them put the figure of people trapped at 13 . Residents claimed that the collapsed building belongs to a policeman called Corporal Joseph . Emeka Ikechuckwu , a resident said some customers were drinking at the bar , while construction work was ongoing . He said the building caved in with people inside . One of the rescue officials at the scene complained that buildings around the area were built with no space between them and that made it difficult for rescue vehicles to get to the victims . Efforts to speak to the coordinator of the Abuja operations office of the National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA ) , Ishaya Chonoko , failed as calls to his phone were not answered . Daily Trust later learnt that he was at the scene of the building collapse coordinating rescue operations. www.dailytrust.com.ng/daily/news/36011-dozen-trapped-in-fresh-abuja-house-collapse www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2014/10/04/many-trapped-in-abuja-building-collapse/ |

Popular dancer and upcoming actress, Kemi Omotoyinbo is dead. Kemi, who has performed with the likes of Pasuma, KWAM 1 and Shina Peters, reportedly passed away yesterday, October 1, in a Lagos hospital due to complications connected with her pregnancy. The dancer was reportedly admitted to the clinic after she went into labour but unfortunately she couldn’t have the child naturally and a Caesarean Section was recommended. However, the hospital demanded a total fee of 450,000 and an initial deposit of 300,000 which Kemi’s husband, Godwin Eloanyi couldn’t raise. Reports have it that despite several pleas to the doctor in charge, he refused to carry out the procedure. Kemi eventually passed away that night, 20 days after her September 13 wedding. A friend of hers reportedly said: "The hospital killed her with their negligence and wickedness. Kemi would have lived if they had done the operation on time but money was more important than a young woman's life. "Kemi's husband said he would pay the money the next day but the doctor refused and stated categorically that he would not move an inch else he pays 300,000. It was at that point Kemi decided to forward messages to people she knows so she could get help. She got responses that money would be made available to her the next day. On hearing that the husband went to beg the doctors again, still they refused. My point is, the doctors knew she had to go through emergency C&S. they could have saved her life and get the money later. Nigeria is a very bad country I must confess." www.pulse.ng/gist/kemi-omotoyinbo-popular-dancer-dies-20-days-after-wedding-id3171332.html www.nigeriacommunicationsweek.com.ng/kemi-omotoyinbo-popular-dancer-dies-20-days-after-wedding
