But what brought about this our banter? I said I don't believe in keeping virginity for husband and I said I will not advise my girl-child likewise. Instead, I will advise her to do it for herself and/or in obedience to God. It was at this point that you mentioned me and started saying stuff about there being no point since 'so called christian virgins end up masturbating' and some other thing about 'cheating nature'

I know there are christians who abide by the very laws of God, I'm not disputing that. The undertone I hear is that of criticism for what you don't believe in. Using words like 'So called christians'...

Nobody is forcing you to be a Christian abeg. I definitely am not. If Christians are talking about something and you go and chook your mouth, they will tell you what they think based on their beliefs. The best thing is for you to just ignore in the first place.

When people open threads to talk about things that negate my christian beliefs, I understand that it's not my cup of tea so i don't attempt to go and chook my mouth there. And I also try to avoid arguing with non-Christians about these issues, just like I've been doing with you since yesterday. But no, you are determined to force words out of me. Then you'll end up saying someone is forcing something down your throat. Lol

If you don't believe in something, it's not by force. This thread is obviously not for you. Let the people to whom this thread was targeted at come and air their opinions in peace. Live and let live!

In my first post, I said I agree with the general idea of your write-up. Meaning, I am in support of abstaining from premarital sex because God does not endorse it. As a matter of fact, I preach abstinence whenever I can. What I had a problem with was some of your reasons, especially the one were the woman should do it because she wants to gift it to her husband. I don't agree with that mentality. In fact, these days most guys won't agree to date a lady with a no sex policy. It is at this point that the ladies that are 'keeping it for a man' would compromise.

If you think that me saying I am abstaining only because God instructed me to and not because i care about any man makes me an hypocrite, then that's not my problem.

I'll continue to preach this message. Ladies should do it for themselves, for God, to avoid STDs and unwanted pregnancies but NOT FOR A MAN!

Any girl that wants to keep her virginity should do it for her own sake or in obedience to God. I grew up hearing that 'keep your virginity for your husband' crap and it's just a silly thing to say especially in these modern times. It was a bit hard to unlearn most of those toxic things I internalized while growing up but I thank God for wisdom sha.

Is it the same husband that would have slept with half of the girls in town that I will be keeping virginity for? Mba o! I definitely would not be telling that to my girl-child. Instead, tell the ladies to do it for themselves and/or in obedience to God. If they keep their virginity for husband and the husband still cheats on them, what will they now do? Commit suicide?

But then life is worth having, being alive cannot be overrated though. When you are alive, there is a tiny thread you hold tight on, called Hope. The people dead looking peaceful in that state doesn't mean they attained their full potential and emptied themselves here before leaving therefore we cannot say they were happy to have died when they did.

If given a second chance most dead people will come back to finish sth they left halfway or say sth to a loved one or forgive someone they have grudges against. When you meet a person who places a high value to Life in spite of his challenge then you will understand that living is a gift and gifts are valuable.

It's easy for us to talk about hope because we are privileged enough.

I bet you won't be talking about hope if you found yourself in one of those scenarios I painted. If you found yourself in such situations and somehow you had the power to choose, would you prefer to stay on earth and suffer, or go to a place where you'll never have to suffer?

I saw that you may have misconstrued what i meant when I said being alive is overrated. Maybe, it wasn't about my post but eitherway, I just feel like I should explain what I meant...

I'm glad to be alive and I have serious hopes for a bright future. That's why nothing will ever drive me to take my own life.

However, I came to the conclusion that being alive is overrated because barely 3 months back, I witnessed a loved one battle real hard to stay alive. She had the highest stage of cancer, whatever that means. She was practicaly writhing in pain every minute. Deep in our hearts, we knew the end was near for her but we were still hopeful that some miracle would make her survive it. We would miss her and it would hurt so much if she died. Everyday, I'll get back and peep into her room and see her moaning and groaning. I would watch life seep slowly away from her body. I would watch until I couldn't bear to anymore. She kept crying for mercy and I know God heard her. I can't begin to imagine how unbearable the pain felt but merely looking at her broke my heart everytime.

Then she stopped crying for mercy and started begging God not to take her life. She said she would bear the pain for as long as it lasted but she just didn't want to die. We all joined in praying to God to save her life but she died not long after. Unfortunately?

We were all sad but at the same time, I felt happy for her soul. I knew she was in a better place. I felt consoled that all that pain was finally over. When I saw her body during the funeral, she looked so peaceful and it made me wonder why she would have chosen to continue suffering for a longer time than to just die and rest in God's bosom.

And in that moment, I realized that not every living being is better than the dead. Everyday, we hear things like 'Are you not supposed to be grateful that you're still alive? People are dying everyday. Go to the mortuary and see dead bodies' And the audience may probably be someone that has Ebola or the deadliest disease ever. Personally, I would pray for death if i found myself in such a situation.

A lot of us are just privileged in this life. That's why we can talk about being better than the dead. And yes, a lot of us are better than the dead but look around you. A lot of people are begging on the streets, no arms, no legs, no food, no shelter, no friends, no relatives, nothing. Most of these people die everyday after going hungry for days at a stretch. Do you think the rest of them think that dying and going to heaven is worse than staying alive to see if they'll live through another day?

Yes, I think being alive is overrated and I mean it generically. It has more to do with my personal beliefs and nothing to do with how screwed up my life may be at the moment.

PS; I'm really sorry for derailing this beautiful story
