wise7:
The Department of State Service (DSS) seems to be in trouble already as some policy reversals which operatives consider as “witch-hunt” are being implemented just four days after a new Director General took over.

The DG Lawal Daura has, for instance suspended promotions done this year in the Service which were approved by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Sources in the administration said that the former Spokesman of DSS, Marylyn Ogar who got an approval to proceed on three years study leave during the tenure of the former DG, Ita Ekpeyong has been asked to return to the country immediately.

A source who clarified the process of promotion in the Service however said on Saturday that “promotions in the DSS are recommended by the Service, forwarded to the National Security Adviser, who ratifies and then forwards to the President for approval.

The source said: “All these steps were followed. These promotions were duly approved by immediate ex- President Goodluck Jonathan before they were effected. It is difficult to prove any lapses or irregularities in that process because the incumbent DG, Daura, was also a beneficiary of a similar exercise when ex-DG, Ekpenyong Ita promoted him to the post of a Director at the twilight of his career shortly before he retired from Service.”

President Buhari in a circular approved the reversal of all promotions in the DSS approved by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan from March 31.

A memo released to operatives of the secret police and signed by Toma Minti on behalf of the DG indicated that President Muhammadu Buhari had spotted “observed lapses” in the promotions released from March 31 and has accordingly directed a suspension.

The personnel affected include those promoted, converted and upgraded within the period under review. They are, therefore, to revert to their former ranks with immediate effect.”

It was gathered that panic has already gripped operatives of the Service, following allegations of a possible witch hunt as it was said that some departments, including the Public Relations and the Institute for Security Studies were being already penciled for certain actions.

The memo directed all affected personnel to revert to the old ranks while a committee was constituted to review all cases.

“If President Buhari had actually ordered the suspension, then he must have been grossly misled. Come around and sample the opinions of my colleagues and you would be amazed at such low morale that pervades the Service since the release of the circular”, another operative said.

Education / Re: Hnd/b.sc Holders Discrimination: Irrelevant, Dangerious & Unconstitutional. by feedburner(m): 12:46am On Jul 05, 2015
Jakara:
Federal Government should please end this certificate discrimination between HND & B.Sc. holders in Federal Ministry of Interior (Prisons, Immigration, Civil Defence) and others in order to increase their productivity.

This discrimination is irrelevant, dangerious, unethical and unconstitutional.

There is a looming bloody clash between these two cadres at fields of operation due to live arms/ammunition they bear and that is why every well meaning Nigerian should help towards scrapping out this because you/ your family will become victim directly/indirectly & never ask God why because you caused it by not publishing or broadcasting this message.

Few of the discriminations witnessed in Min. of Interior are;
? HND (Inspectorate Cadre), while B.Sc. (Superintendent Cadre).
? Entry Level for HND is G/L 7, while a fellow Graduate with B.Sc. is G/L 8.
? HND G/L 7 earns (#70,000 pm), while B.Sc. G/L 8 earns (#120,000 pm).
? Terminal Point for HND is G/L 13, while B.Sc. is to the highest G/L.
? HND/ inspectorate cadre ranks are confusing, while superintendent
ranks are normal ranks/recognized ranks in military/paramilitary
agencies.
? B.Sc Holder hardly pay complement to his superior officer with HND certificate.
? HND graduates are denied one Grade Level during rank conversation.
? Above all, HND holder in this Ministry of Interior are regarded and treated as artisans with WASC or Trade Test qualifications.

It is shameful that staff of Ministry of Interior and others as affected no longer concentrate on their duties or bring ideas that could help the job, rather they focuse on getting more certificates by hook or by crook in order to be converted to superintendent cadre.

It is obvious that other well recognised security agencies like; Nigeria Military, DSS, Nigerian Police, etc do not discriminate
in ranking between HND & B.Sc. Holders.

Federal Government should merge Ministry of Interior with Police to stop this nonsense if they persists in this evil act called discrimination.

zoo govt won't do anything. their kids are in UK, US, Canada n Dubai.

Politics / Re: Boko Haram Kills Council Chairman, 53 Others In Borno by feedburner(m): 11:19pm On Jul 04, 2015
virus04:
Boko Haram insurgents have launched fresh attacks at Askira/Uba, Biu and Hawul local government areas, resulting in the death of 54 persons, including a former council Chairman, who returned to Askira/Uba barely one week ago.

This came less than 48 hours after the killing of 145 Nigerians by the dreaded Islamic sect at Kukawa and Monguno local government areas.

DAILY POST gathered on Saturday that some of the residents were killed on their farms, while others lost their lives at home.

It was gathered that 29 people were killed yesterday (Friday) when the terrorists attacked Mussa village in Askira
Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

Manu Kansila, a resident of Mussa said the attackers crossed a river near Yimradi Gwandam, another village in the area.

“The terrorists were running away from assault by Nigerian troops because they have attacked many localities today before coming to our village.

“Askira Uba is a border town between Borno and Adamawa, states while Mussa village is 36 kilometres away from the border”.

“They came in broad daylight and opened fire on unsuspecting people. We are now preparing to recover corpses from the bushes, but so far, 29 people have been confirmed dead” he added.
It could be recalled that in another attack, in the early hours of Friday, Boko Haram insurgents reportedly trailed about 13 of their “defecting” members and killed 11 of them in Miringa village in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
Sources said the “defecting” members were forcefully conscripted by the terror group several months ago.

It was gathered that when they saw the opportunity, the defecting members fled a base in Gwargware village in nearby Yobe State and joined hundreds of internally displaced people taking refuge in Miringa.

The government of President
Muhammadu Buhari has explained
how it plans to negotiate with deadly
Boko Haram insurgents to renew
peace in Nigeria. It should be noted that during the
electoral campaign President Buhari promised not to negotiate with the
insurgents if elected as president. However, in a BBC interview last night Buhari has greeted negotiations with
Boko Haram terrorists.Willing To Negotiate Nigerian government has clarified its
stand in a press release issued from his
Abuja office. Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman,
has said the Nigerian state is putting in
place mechanisms that would entirely
destroy Boko Haram from a
multinational level. The statement further noted that the
government would regard negotiations
with the Islamist sect if they accept to
do so. Read full statement below: Most wars, however furious or vicious,
often end around the negotiation table.
So, if Boko Haram opts for negotiation,
the government will not be averse to it.
Government will, however, not be
negotiating from a position of weakness, but that of strength. The
machinery put in place, and which will
be set in motion soon, can only
devastate and decapitate insurgency. It
is multinational in nature, and relief is
on the way for Nigeria and her neighbours. President Muhammadu
Buhari is resolute. He has battled and
won insurgency before, he is poised to
win again. It is a promise he made to
Nigerians, and he is a promise keeper. But I say again, if the insurgents want
to negotiate, no decent government
will be averse to such. Didn’t the

This is the case that is in the airwaves of every radio station in Jos. My fellow Josites can attest to that.

This young man named Pam is the youth leader of state lowcost in Jos. He went to the ATM to withdraw 100,000naira for his house rent. He was the only person that the ATM paid leaving others stranded, so the military men needed money urgently & they ask him to give them the 100,000naira and come to their base in sector 6 the following day to collect his money, but the man could not give them because he has something very important to do with the money(house rent). So the military guys beat the hell out of him and collected the cash. When the STF commander Major Gen. Chris Enete was called on a life program on Silverbird 93.7fm Jos, he said they should please come to his office at the STF headquarters so that he will take appropriate sanction on those military men involved because it is what he described as indiscipline. He also promised that the guy's money will be refunded to him and the military will also take full responsibility of his medical bill. He is currently on admission at Parkview hospital opp. Solomon Lar Amusement Park.

Good morning.

This piece is meant for those of us who happen to be too naïve and ignorant to criticise the current government for saying they are "open to negotiations with Boko Haram".

I read on the thread concerning the subject matter the comments of some members in response HungerBad's comment especially that of Emeritus85 who stated "but Americans don't negotiate with terrorists". The only reason why people think American government doesn't negotiate with terrorists is because Hollywood made them believe they don't, whereas American government in reality might have engaged in negotiations and talks with terrorists, rebel groups and other non-state actors more than any other government on earth.

Just recently, a deal was reached between Washington and the Taliban for the release of a US soldier who's been held in captivity: This isn't Hollywood, this is reality!

Let us go a step further. A couple of years back, Israel, the closest US ally, (so close a US Congressman referred to her as "America's 51st state!"wink agreed to a prisoner swap with Hamas, a group labelled as terrorist group by both countries, that saw to the release of over 1000 Palestinians for 1 Israeli soldier, Gillard Shalit. Though Israel, we agree, is a sovereign state, anyone conversant with her relationship with the US would know the deal wouldn't have been made without some form of nod from Washington: www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2011/10/20111017221258366393.html

At the risk of making the post verbose, I'd like to refer you guys to this link which is a compendium of some of the deals that have been brokered between the US and some violent/terrorist groups : foreignpolicy.com/2014/06/03/the-u-s-does-negotiate-with-terrorists/

The US does negotiate with terrorists when it suits them to do so. The cost of an endless war is too much for a state to bear, hence they are constantly in search of ways to arrive at a peaceful resolution of such situations in the shortest time possible. It is the norm across the world. Nigeria isn't an exception.

In the past, Jonathan's administration had sought out ways of negotiating with Boko Haram, the only problem was that time and again, their negotiations fell through:

Who has forgotten the overtures made by Obasanjo, with approval from the government, at bringing the group to a round table?? These are but incidences that were public knowledge- what about all that happen behind the scenes?

It is only fair that we support this government in finding a lasting solution to this problem which seems to have defied a military approach for too long. We can sit behind out computers and criticise all we want but those who suffer a direct impact of the group's activities, including the families of our fallen heroes, understand the imperatives of solving the crises once and for all (I know some would call me a hypocrite, but I never criticised Jonathan's government's desire to negotiate). We can't shoot or bomb our way out of this situation- if talking can solve the problem, so be it.

Remember, the cost of peace is the price for a war not fought.

I want to ask you one question and I want you to be honest;
Did you or did you not support Jonathan we he made similar move?

Politics / Why Nigerians Must Reject The Second Coming Of Buhari By Femi Aribisala by feedburner(m): 5:59pm On Jul 04, 2015
WHEN Muhammadu Buhari overthrew a democratically-elected government in a coup d”etat in 1983, Sani Abacha declared in his infamous radio broadcast: “(Our) health services are in shambles as our hospitals are reduced to mere consulting clinics without drugs, water and equipment.”
However, Buhari did not address the shambolic Nigerian health system in his two years in power. In a Vanguard article of 7th February, 2015, Ambassador Ignatius Olisemeka said of Buhari: “He entrusted to me the care and welfare of his family- he sent his wife and two children to me in Washington D.C. for medical treatment. His family were with me in Washington D.C. when the General was overthrown in a coup d’état.”
Thus, while Buhari was grandstanding as Mr. Fix-It, he sought medical care surreptitiously for his family in the United States, instead of fixing the Nigerian health system. This typifies the hypocrisy and insincerity of Buhari as an agent of change. It is all smoke and mirrors. It is the same duplicity whereby he claimed to be the apostle of anti-corruption even while being complicit in the smuggling in of 53 suitcases at Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos in the middle of a currency change.

Politics / Re: Boko Haram Kills Nearly 200 In 48 Hours Of Nigeria Slaughter by feedburner(m): 5:42pm On Jul 04, 2015
atlwireles:
Kano (Nigeria) (AFP) - Boko Haram carried out a fresh wave of massacres in northeastern Nigeria on Friday, locals said, killing nearly 200 people in 48 hours of violence President Muhammadu Buhari blasted as "inhuman and barbaric".

The militants have staged multiple attacks across restive Borno state since Wednesday, gunning down worshippers at evening Ramadan prayers, shooting women in their homes, and dragging men from their beds in the dead of night.

A young female suicide bomber also killed 12 worshippers when she blew herself up in a mosque in Borno. While there was no immediate claim of responsibility, Boko Haram has used both men and young women and girls as human bombs in the past.

And as night fell, Nigerian troops battled "hordes of Boko Haram gunmen" who seemed set on attacking the state capital Maiduguri, the birthplace of the extremist Islamist movement.

"President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the latest wave of killings... describing them as most inhuman and barbaric," the presidency said in a statement.

The bloodshed is the worst since Buhari came to power in May, vowing to root out the insurgency that has claimed more than 15,000 lives.

"They killed six people in the village and they chased the inhabitants into the bush, firing at them... 25 people were killed in the bush," he said.

Another survivor, Adamu Bulus, confirmed 31 people had been murdered.

It was the fourth time that Boko Haram had attacked the village in the past year, local youth worker Sunday Wabba told AFP, describing how they "killed everyone on sight".

On Friday, fresh details of the killings emerged from a resident of Kukawa, near lake Chad, the worst-affected village.

Baana Kole told AFP that he and others had managed to escape into the bush where they spent the night, before returning to bury the dead, only to find that the militants had laid mines everywhere.

"Some residents who hid in trees saw them planting the mines and alerted us when we returned to the village and started burying our dead," he said.

"So many dead bodies are still in Kukawa lying unattended. We had to abandon them because we could not carry them with us."

"The bomber was a girl aged around 15 who was seen around the mosque when worshippers were preparing for the afternoon prayers," Danlami Ajaokuta, a vigilante assisting the military against Boko Haram, told AFP.

"People asked her to leave because she had no business there and they were not‎ comfortable with her in view of the spate of suicide attacks by female Boko Haram members.

"She made to leave‎ but while the people were inside the mosque for the prayers she ran from a distance into the mosque and blew herself up," he added -- an account corroborated by resident Gajimi Mala.

- Boko Haram has 're-grouped' -

They "picked 13 men from selected homes and took them to the Eid prayer ground outside the village where they opened fire on them," resident Baballe Mohammed said, adding 11 died and two managed to escape.

He and another resident said the victims had been targeted because they had fled their home village after Boko Haram tried to force them to join their ranks.

Then on Friday evening, local vigilantes said Nigerian troops were battling Boko Haram fighters in Zabarmari village, only 10 kilometres (six miles) from Maiduguri, trying to prevent an apparent rebel attempt to enter the city.

With heavy gunfire and more than 10 loud explosions reported, local resident Zanna Shehuri told AFP, "Boko Haram are now in Zabarmari trying to come into Maiduguri but are facing stiff resistance from soldiers."

The armed group has intensified its campaign of violence since Buhari came to power on May 29, launching raids, explosions and suicide attacks that have claimed over 450 lives.

The spike in violence has sparked concern that earlier victories claimed by the armies of Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon in the region are being eroded.

The four countries -- all of which border Lake Chad, a focal point of Boko Haram unrest -- launched offensives against the militants early this year as it became apparent that the armed group was making big gains in Nigeria.

They managed to push the militants out of captured towns and villages, but the recent attacks highlight that Boko Haram is not defeated.

A new regional fighting force comprising 8,700 troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon and Benin is due to deploy at the end of the month.

welcome to the abominable damnation, the zoological republic where terrorists are raving its land, politicians are looting and chopping subsidy money, only means of income is oil n gas, unemployment rate >50%, fuel scarcity, corruption scandals (kwakwaso, nyako, ohakim, Da sylva....)...

while other true and original nations are pursuing their national goals n targets.
