Noel Francisco to step down as US solicitor general https://edition.cnn.com/2020/06/10/politics/noel-francisco-solicitor-general/index.html US Solicitor General Noel Francisco is expected to resign from his role as the government's top lawyer before the Supreme Court in the coming days, according to two sources familiar with the move. Francisco, 50, has led the solicitor general's office since September 2017 and been a forceful advocate for President Donald Trump. The White House is not expected to immediately name a permanent successor. Instead, the principal deputy solicitor general, Jeff Wall, will most likely be tapped as the acting solicitor general. Assistant Attorney General Brian Benczkowski of the Criminal Division also to resigned today. These sudden resignations are telling, considering that SG Francisco is representing Trump tax returns case at the Supreme Court, maybe he sees where the wind is blowing. |

Trump’s disapproval in the new poll stood at 57 percent, up 11 percentage points from early May. Trump’s approval rating on how he’s handling the economy also dipped below 50 percent in Gallup polling for the first time since November 2017. It currently stands at 47-51 percent approval/disapproval, down from 58-41 percent in February. |

27 percent of Americans in new poll see Trump as man of faith https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/501995-27-percent-of-americans-in-new-poll-see-trump-as-man-of-faith Slightly more than one-quarter of all Americans questioned in a new poll said they see President Trump as a man of faith. The Politico-Morning Consult poll released Wednesday morning found that 27 percent of respondents somewhat or strongly agree that Trump is religious, compared to 55 percent who somewhat or strongly disagree. Slightly more than a third of self-identified Christians see Trump as religious, pollsters noted, while half say he is not. Forty percent of evangelicals also agreed that Trump was a man of faith, while 33 percent disagreed. A total of 23 percent of Catholics and 18 percent of independents supported the statement that Trump is religious. Only majorities of ideological conservatives — 55 percent — and Republicans — 60 percent — said they see the president as religious. The poll was taken after the president visited two religious destinations in Washington, D.C., last week, a Catholic shrine and St. John’s Episcopal Church. At St. John’s, he posed for photos with a Bible after protesters were forcibly removed from Lafayette Square in front of the White House. “Even after nearly 3 in 4 voters saw coverage of President Trump’s photo op at St. John’s Episcopal Church last week, only about 1 in 4 believe he’s religious,” Morning Consult Vice President Tyler Sinclair said, according to Politico. That's 0.27 x 330,000,000 = 89.9million people To Trump's supporters, when was the last time Trump visited a place of worship? |

Trump campaign demands CNN apologize for poll that shows Biden leading https://edition.cnn.com/2020/06/10/politics/trump-campaign-cnn-poll/index.html Washington (CNN)President Donald Trump's campaign is demanding CNN retract and apologize for a recent poll that showed him well behind presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. The demand, coming in the form of a cease and desist letter to CNN President Jeff Zucker, was immediately rejected by the network and they also told Trump where to go and what route to take. "We stand by our poll," said Matt Dornic, a CNN spokesman. The CNN poll conducted by SSRS and released on Monday shows Trump trailing the former vice president by 14 points, 55%-41%, among registered voters. It also finds the President's approval rating at 38% -- his worst mark since January 2019, and roughly on par with approval ratings for one-term Presidents Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush at this point in their reelection years -- and his disapproval rating at 57%.

Court-appointed attorney says judge should block DOJ move to drop Flynn case - DOJ committed 'gross abuse' in Flynn case https://www.foxnews.com/politics/counsel-appointed-by-flynn-judge-says-court-should-block-doj-move-to-drop-charges John Gleeson, the attorney and retired judge who was appointed by Judge Emmet Sullivan to submit a brief discussing whether federal prosecutors should be able to dismiss their case against Michael Flynn, insisted in a filing Wednesday that not only does Sullivan have the authority to reject the government’s request but he should do so. The Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure state that prosecutors may dismiss a case “with leave of court.” At issue in the Flynn case now is exactly what level of discretion this gives the court. Gleeson argues that it covers the current situation, claiming that federal prosecutors gave a pretext for why they want to drop the case. “Leave of court should not be granted when the explanations the Government puts forth are not credible as the real reasons for its dismissal of a criminal charge,” Gleeson wrote in his amicus curiae (“friend of the court”) brief, alleging that prosecutors’ reasoning is “riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact” and should not justify dismissal. |

Nuel4:Why are you so comfortable to make false, baseless statements, if you don't have anything good to say, it will be better to keep quiet. The Lincoln Project https://lincolnproject.us/ OUR MISSION Defeat President Trump and Trumpism at the ballot box. We do not undertake this task lightly nor from ideological preference. Our many policy differences with national Democrats remain. However, the priority for all patriotic Americans must be a shared fidelity to the Constitution and a commitment to defeat those candidates who have abandoned their constitutional oaths, regardless of party. Electing Democrats who support the Constitution over Republicans who do not is a worthy effort. Today, we find ourselves divided again – sectionalism in the country and factionalism in government has led to ever uglier examples of how our political system is failing. President Donald Trump and those who sign onto Trumpism are a clear and present danger to the Constitution and our Republic. Only defeating so polarizing a character as Trump will allow the country to heal its political and psychological wounds and allow for a new, better path forward for all Americans. Trump has been lying about the size of the crowds that he says have come out to cheer him on. Finally, this week, in cities across America, from coast to coast, and small towns in between, crowds even larger than he ever imagined possible have gathered — not to cheer Trump on — but in solidarity with one message: It’s time for him to go. William Barr Flatly Contradicts Trump's Story That He Was In His Bunker For 'Inspection' President Donald Trump insisted last week that he was down in his protective White House bunker for a “tiny, little short period of time” for an “inspection.” Not true, Attorney General William Barr spilled Monday: The president was there for protection from protesters. “Things were so bad that the Secret Service recommended the president go down to the bunker,” Barr told Bret Baier on Fox News. Barr revealed the news angrily, insisting that the president was in danger. “We can’t have that in our country,” he added, apparently forgetting he had just contradicted his boss.

ST. PAUL MAN ARRESTED FOR BURNING DOWN OF MINNEAPOLIS POLICE PRECINCT https://www.kimt.com/content/news/St-Paul-man-arrested-for--571111961.html#.Xt7e_i01tSk.twitter ST. PAUL, Minn. – A federal charge has been filed against a St. Paul man for the burning down of the Third Police Precinct in Minneapolis. United States Attorney Erica H. MacDonald says Branden Michael Wolfe, 23, is accused of aiding and abetting arson. He is scheduled to make his initial appears in U.S. District Court Tuesday. The Third Precinct was overrun during protests on May 28 and heavily damaged due to vandalism and arson, with investigators identifying multiple fires being started in the building. On June 3, St. Paul police officers were called to a home improvement store in St. Paul about an individual, later identified as Wolfe, wearing body armor and a law enforcement duty belt and carrying a baton was trying to get into the store. Store employees said WOLFE had been working as a security guard at the store but was fired earlier that day over social media posts about stealing items from the Third Precinct. Police arrested Wolfe and say they found him wearing multiple items stolen from the Third Precinct, including body armor, a police-issue duty belt with handcuffs, an earphone piece, baton, and knife. Officers say Wolfe’s name was handwritten in duct tape on the back of the body armor. Law enforcement says it recovered items belonging to the Minneapolis Police Department, including a riot helmet, 9mm pistol magazine, police radio, and police issue overdose kit, from Wolfe’s apartment. According to the criminal complaint, Wolfe admitted to police that he was inside the Third Precinct the night of the arson, took property from the building, and pushed a wooden barrel into the fire. Investigators say Wolfe also identified himself in multiple witness photographs capturing him in front of the Third Precinct holding a police baton, with smoke and flames visible in the background. Wolfe reportedly admitted to knowing that pushing the wooden barrel into the fire would keep the flames burning.

Trump US 'best economy' in history was already in recession before the Covid-19 pandemic U.S. entered recession in February after end of longest expansion in history, NBER finds https://www.marketwatch.com/story/us-entered-recession-in-march-after-end-of-longest-expansion-in-history-nber-finds-2020-06-08 It’s official: The longest expansion in U.S. history ended in February as the economy fell into deep recession, according to the group responsible for making such declarations. The National Bureau of Economic Research on Monday said a 128-month expansion — the longest dating to 1854 — came to a halt in February. The recession also began the same month- The NBER, a private research group led by the nation’s top economists, has long been considered the official arbiter of sorts for determining when business cycles start and end. The ruling comes as no surprise. The coronavirus began to weigh on the U.S. in February and the pandemic struck hard in March, leading to a nationwide lockdown that shuttered most of the economy. The unemployment rate surged in April to the highest level on record at 14.7% and more than 45 million applications have been filed for unemployment benefits. The economy has tumbled into such a deep recession that some forecasters predict up to a record 40% decline in gross domestic product in the second quarter. In the first quarter, the economy contracted by 4.8%, one of the deepest declines on record. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-economy-recession/u-s-economy-entered-recession-in-february-nber-idUSKBN23F28L (Reuters) - The U.S. economy ended its longest expansion in history in February and entered recession as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the private economics research group that acts as the arbiter for determining U.S. business cycles said on Monday. When the economy started declining in late 2007, for example, the group did not pinpoint the start of the recession until a year later. https://www.politico.com/news/2020/06/08/recession-united-states-economy-307403 https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/it-s-official-u-s-entered-recession-february-n1227631 The recession started in February and had nothing to do with the pandemic. Businesses shutdowns didn't begin until late March. Of course Trump has been using the covid-19 pandemic as cover for his poor economic / business management. It should be noted that Trump was only president for 36 months before February 2020. Prior to Jan 20 2017, Obama was president for 96 months. (this is where the debate should begin, who manages the US economy better). |
