President Muhammadu Buhari has turned down an offer by Saudi Arabia for Nigeria to join the coalition of Islamic states against terror. However, the leaders of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have expressed commitment to a “stable oil market” and a “rebound of oil price”. Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, said that at a bilateral meeting between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia in Riyadh hosted by King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz, the two leaders accepted the fact that their two economies are tied to oil and that all cannot be well with both countries when then the world oil market is unstable. They therefore committed themselves to doing all that is possible to stabilize the market and rebound the oil price. The two leaders engaged in extensive discussions on regional and global issues, and agreed that terrorism posed a common threat to their states and would require close cooperation to prevail over the threats. Garba quoted Buhari, who was making his first pronouncement on the invitation to join the coalition of Islamic states against terror spearheaded by the Saudis, as congratulating the Kingdom for forming the coalition, saying: “Even if we are not a part of it, we support you. “I must thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the recent creation of a coalition to address the menace of international terrorism. Nigeria will support your efforts in keeping peace and stopping the spread of terror in your region. “This is in consonance with our own commitment and ongoing efforts in seeking to stamp out Boko Haram terrorists from the West African sub-region and Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC).” On global terror generally, Buhari said: “International terrorism made a statement by attacking one of the advanced countries by carrying out an attack on Paris, in which 130 were killed. “Now we have to come together to find a common solution to the problem of terrorism.” He thanked the Saudi government for continuing support to Nigeria in the fight against terrorism. Turning to the menace that Libya has turned into, he expressed regrets that the late Libyan leader, Muammar Ghaddafi recruited, trained and armed citizens of many states in the Sahel region. “With his fall, these mercenaries have returned to their countries doing nothing but to shoot and kill,” he said. He cited Burkina Faso and Mali as the main victims but expressed happiness that the countries neighboring the Lake Chad had tightened their ranks to finish off the Boko Haram threat. “Luckily, we have cultivated our neighbors. We are now working together against Boko Haram, otherwise the problem would have become worse,” he said. In his remarks, King Salman commended the progress made by Nigeria in combating terrorism, and promised to give further support and assistance. He welcomed the support of the Nigerian government for the new ant-terrorism coalition and implored the president to consider its full membership. King Salman pledged his full support and cooperation to Nigeria under its present leadership and directed all agencies of his government to follow up on the discussions. “I now instruct my team to go and sit down with your relevant agencies to push forward cooperation between our states,” the King said. https://www.thecable.ng/buhari-says-no-to-islamic-coalition-against-terror |
Well, another Christian Marriage has fallen a part. Grammy Award Winning Gospel Artist Israel Houghton and his wife Meleasa are calling it quits. According to a statement released by Houghton he admits to having cut out on his five five years ago. To what degree he had an indiscretion is not known. He did not aggressive if this was just a a one time fling or if he maintained an affair with another woman. Obviously while out on the road Houghton was knocking it down in between ministry appearances. Obnoxious Media is shocked and disappointed to learn that one of the last of the good guys is not so good after all. Seems that Christians especially those in ministry cannot handle success and marriage simultaneously. It is heartbreaking to face the harsh reality that you may not be able to have it all. Hopefully Tina and Teddy Campbell can be that example of how to overcome issues in marriage and still have a successful career in the Gospel Industry. It is with a collective heavy heart that we announce that after over 20 years of marriage and a long separation, Meleasa and I are officially divorced. Several years ago I failed and sinned in my marriage. Though this is new to many, it is not new to us as we have been working through this for over 5 years. Although we tried, the challenges in our relationship have proven too much to overcome. We have always handled our family and ministry with grace and generosity toward others, discretion, and privacy. So, for the sake of our amazing kids, we are also handling this privately with pastoral oversight and assistance. We choose to remain friendly and kind to each other going forward. I am in the process of restoration and I have repented for my actions. Although I am sincerely sorry, and forgiven, I soberly realize that I will live with the consequences of my failings for the rest of my life. As this has become a public matter I want to apologize to the many who have supported my ministry through the years. I’m sorry for the many who will be hurt to learn of my personal failure. I regret any pain or disappointment that this news may cause you. We thank you for your prayers and for allowing us to handle this privately with those who are set over us in this process. Prayerfully, Israel Houghton http://obnoxioustelevision.com/2016/02/22/obnoxious-breaking-news-after-20-years-of-marriage-israel-houghton-and-meleasa-are-officially-divorced/ https://www.facebook.com/IsraelHoughton/ |

Why can't Lagos state govt devlop a local team that will be supported by lagosians? At the end of the day, talents will be taken from Nigeria, to further make Barcelona a great club from people buying into Barcelona's merchandise...it's all about marketing and having a global influence to the detriment of the local league. |

Begs aggrieved members to sheath their swords. Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has hailed the emergence of former governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), calling on all members and supporters of the party to support the new chairman. Governor Fayose, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said the choice of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was in the best interest of the party. He said; “I have always defended the party even at the risk of my position, personal security and comfort. I have always stood for the truth, and I cannot now be part of any decision that won’t represent the party well. “I supported the processes that led to the emergence of Ali Modu Sheriff because I believe in him and for those who may be aggrieved for one reason or the other; I plead that they should sheath their swords in the overall interest of our party. “Most importantly, the reality that we must all face is that we are in a peculiar situation and such a situation deserves a peculiar approach. “What the party leaders have done therefore is to tackle the present situation in our party with the most appropriate solution and we must all stand by Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who is our present solution to our present situation.” Speaking further, Governor Fayose said, “the All Progressives Congress (APC) knows Senator Ali Modu Sheriff’s capacity in terms of political network, being a three term senator and two term governor, and must be afraid that with such a person as the PDP Chairman, their regime of lies will be over soon.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/fayose-hails-ali-modu-sheriffs-emergence-as-pdp-chairman-urges-support-for-him/ |
Agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) late last week interrogated Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, a flamboyant Nigerian monarch from Ondo State. An EFCC source told SaharaReporters that Mr. Akinruntan, who holds the traditional title of Olugbo Of Ugbo, was grilled in connection with his suspected involvement in money laundering. The source said the investigations were too early to determine the amount of money involved in the alleged crime. Mr. Akinruntan, who is the traditional ruler of Ugboland, is also known as “Obat.” He is the chairman of Obat Oil Limited, a company that had been cited numerous times in fuel subsidy scams the past. Our source disclosed that EFCC agents first interrogated Oba Akinruntan last Friday. He added that the monarch was asked to return to the agency on Monday where he faced further questioning from investigators looking into his possible role in significant money laundering and other financial crimes. Asked if the traditional ruler was likely to face prosecution, our source stated that EFCC agents “have made a lot of progress in putting together a case that warrants charging him [Oba Akinruntan] to court.” But the source added that it was too early to disclose when the traditional ruler might face prosecution. http://saharareporters.com/2016/02/17/nigerian-traditional-ruler-fredrick-obateru-akinruntan-arrested-money-laundering |
Journalist Till Bruckner, writing in the Huffington Post, interviewed two officials from the Caribbean nation the Commonwealth of Dominica government on the citizenship status of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke. The Commonwealth of Dominica, like many small nations, allows for people who invest in the Dominican economy to receive citizenship under the law. This practice, which has been growing in popularity worldwide, is a major source of foreign direct investment into the Dominica according to the reporting by Mr. Bruckner. Vince Henderson, Dominica's permanent representative to the United Nations, and Emmanuel Nanthan, the head of the country's Citizenship by Investment Unit, were interviewed on questions surrounding Dominica’s Citizenship Programme and its efforts to increase foreign direct investment. The issuance of diplomatic passports to non-citizens is a crucial aspect of the program as it encourages various foreign business leaders to serve as “ambassadors” for the Dominica, according to the Dominican officials. Mr. Bruckner questioned the ethics and practice of granting these passports, citing Mrs. Alison-Madueke as an example of a passport holder who clearly is corrupt. Both Mr. Nanthan and Mr. Henderson argued that the Dominica government followed its due diligence before issuing Mrs. Alison-Madueke her passport. However, the embattled former minister was given her passport only 6 days after meeting with the Dominican Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit in London, leading to questions about how thorough or serious her citizenship process was. The Dominica officials argued that Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s passport approval process was begun long before she met Prime Minister Skerrit. When questioned on the secrecy behind the former minister’s appointment as the Trade and Investment Commissioner for Dominica, Mr. Nanthan and Mr. Henderson admitted that the Dominican government should have been more forthright regarding the appointment. Mrs. Alison-Madueke has been in the UK receiving treatment for cancer since former President Goodluck Jonathan left office in May 2015. In October, she was arrested by agents of the National Crime Agency in the UK accused of money laundering and other financial crimes. It has also been alleged that Mrs. Alison-Madueke was planning to flee the United Kingdom using her diplomatic Dominica passport but that plot was spoiled when the UK authorities arrested her and suspected accomplices. Mrs. Alison-Madueke worked for Shell Petroleum prior to her appointment to the cabinet of former President Umaru Yar’Adua. Upon Mr. Yar’Adua’s death in 2010, President Jonathan appointed Mrs. Alison-Madueke to the Petroleum Ministry. She was widely regarded as one of the most powerful members of Mr. Jonathan’s cabinet. Her tenure was marked by numerous questionable deals, including controversies over billions of dollars of oil revenues that were reportedly not deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria. Nigerian anti-corruption police investigators told SaharaReporters that serious investigations and collaboration with the UK, and the US would continue to determine the scale of corruption perpetrated by Mrs. Alison-Madueke and her collaborators. Earlier today her husband was arrested by agents of the anti-corruption unit accused of laundering over $600,000 for his wife. http://saharareporters.com/2016/02/17/details-diezani%E2%80%99s-foreign-diplomatic-passport-revealed-interview-dominica-officials |

Sources inside the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have disclosed to a SaharaReporters correspondent that Mr. Alison Amaechina Madueke, the husband to the embattled former Minister for Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke, was arrested today. Mr. Madueke was arrested this morning by EFCC agents in Abuja for illegally laundering more than $600,000 through his personal accounts. According to an EFCC source, “[Mr. Madueke] was arrested this morning [in Abuja] and released on administrative bail.” The EFCC also seized Mr. Madueke’s passport and placed him under caution. This is the latest development in an ongoing global investigation into the financial activity of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Maduke, who was arrested last year in London for financial crimes. Mrs. Madueke was at the helm of the petroleum industry in Nigeria during a time of unprecedented theft, according to analysts. http://saharareporters.com/2016/02/17/breaking-efcc-arrests-diezani%E2%80%99s-husband-alison-madueke |
‘I set my goals and objectives in accordance with my vision. I study them and strategically execute them. My detractors discuss my successes and failure because they have nothing to execute. I am in the news more because I’m working, Nigerians discuss active men in the field. Mentioning any negative news about me will double the wealth of any news media that published it. My name today is a financial market for journalists. Not even elected politicians get the publicity I am enjoying. My comrades, go and work till mentioning your name becomes a source of increased wealth for someone. Even my weakness creates wealth for vendors’. —I REMAIN, ASIWAJU BOLA TINUBU– I ran into a big problem on how to start this small piece on the stormy petrel, Omoyele Sowore at 45. To put words on paper became a big problem. How do I start to celebrate this one-man riot squad in the chequered history of our country? How do I begin to celebrate a young man who has done what his age mates could not even do even as a students Union Leader at the University of Lagos? How can I begin to tell a story of a young man who has the courage of King David, courage of Esther, wisdom of Solomon and the strength of Samson? How can I tell a story of a young man who cannot accept a tip from anybody no matter the amount even at a time when young people like him can kill for N10,000? How can I describe this young man who has shown, through actions and deeds, that something good can come out of Nigeria? How can I celebrate this great man who has proved beyond reasonable doubts that hard work, honesty, integrity, diligence, character, truth pay? How can I celebrate this young man from Ilaje in Ondo State who has revolutionized the online media in Nigeria and created a niche for himself? All these were going through my mind until I stumbled on Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s quote above about himself a few weeks ago. It may not have fitted perfectly into Omoyele Sowore’s status but the guy is getting nearer to it. When a child washes his hands very well, he dines with the kings and queens. Frankly speaking, I do not know where Nigeria would have been now if the social media outfits led by Sowore’s Sahara Reporters were not there to kick start the silent revolution that sent the thieving PDP and their huge followers out of Abuja. I do not know what our unrepentant politicians would have been doing now if the pack led by Omoyele Sowore were not there to redesign, retool, regig, reshape, and reposition the course of Nigeria’s history. Hours on end and when it mattered most, this active young man, full of energy, power and strength shew bullets, drilled the deepest well and did the unthinkable to chart the way forward. Like a Five Star General, he was in the front line giving orders, taking the heat, and paying the price of leadership. He was not deterred, he was not perturbed and was not shaken. The struggle to free Nigeria of corruption and inept leadership was a task that must be done. For this struggle, he put his feet, hands, heart, mind, soul, resources etc. on it and today Nigeria is telling a better story. When I see failed old men, with nothing worthwhile for their long stay on earth, struggle to criticize and put down this guy simply because he is a pain in the neck to their patrons, negative role models and leaders, I ask myself again and again, where would Nigeria have been without this guy’s determination. When I see morally challenged midgets struggle to abuse Saharareporters, Sowore and what they stand for, even without resisting the temptation of going to the news medium every hour, in search of credible news stories, I have cause to thank God for the strength of character he gave this young man. Fact is that Sowore and Saharareporters are eternal spikes to many a corrupt politicians, their enablers and hirelings and is an eternal threat to bad governments. The outgone PDP government will eternally live in dread of such credible platforms because Saharareporters foretold their doom. Most importantly, they have watched in frustration as all their wild actions to discredit and stop Saharareporters have rather made the medium so popular in Nigeria today. Through actions and deeds Sowore has proved that no power can stop a popular idea whose time has come. I understand he ran for the Presidency of the University of Lagos in the early nineties on the slogan; “No one stops an idea whose time has come”. Sowore has proved beyond reasonable doubt that one man can make the difference. Omoyele Sowore has proved that honesty pays. Those who started this great journey with him have fallen by the way side and moved deeper into the junkyard of history, licking their wounds and blaming others for the woes they brought upon themselves. Some have ended up in pay-me-i-write-for-you journalism, and consequently boxed themselves into a corner, leaving the big space for the big boy called Omoyele Sowore and his team. In Sowore’s life I have come to believe that everything is possible, that as a man thinks, so is he. At 45, I can only tell Sowore that his best is yet to be. I am aware of the blackmail and intimidation he has suffered in the past. I am aware of internet fraudsters and hackers who tried to clone Saharareporters. I am aware of his numerous enemies who wish that he goes down. They will fail. Because they are not Sowore, because they do not possess the candor, the charisma, the courage, the diligence and character of Omoyele Sowore, they will always fail. Because they do not possess the extra-ordinary wisdom of Sowore, because they do not possess Sowore’s capacity and capability, they cannot go far. Corruption is fighting back in the most dangerous manner. It is fighting from all corners in the Presidency, Judiciary and the National Assembly. The war against corruption must be sustained and Sowore must continue to lead the way. We must kill corruption before it kills Nigeria. It is not over until it is over. I salute the courage of this young man. I salute his pedigree. I salute his resounding and unbelievable courage. I salute his guts. I celebrate his education. Now, of what meat is Sowore fed? — Joe Igbokwe wrote from Lagos http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2016/02/16/celebrating-the-stormy-petrel-omoyele-sowore-at-45/ |
It will be a sad story if in the long run after uncountable rantings that our fellow citizens from the 'land of the rising sun' finally vote for PDP, a party with strong Northern Leadership & followership. It would have been very interesting if our fellow citizens from the 'land of the rising sun' to develop their own regional party APGA into becoming a true national party like APC. With these latest developments in PDP, the dream of having a presidential candidate from the 'land of the rising sun' in both the 2019 and 2023 elections are fast diminishing into the horizon. |
By the end of this year, between PMB & the new Ooni, who will win the award as the most travelled? By the way, why is the Ooni always carrying the big stick? |

The question we should be asking is, why do we need all these parastatals, what's their benefits to the nation except to drain resources. I think majority of these organisations should be liquidated and their staffs be posted to areas that need manpower. |
Saraki should henceforth without delay resign from being the Senate President until the outcome of his CCT case is finished. On the other hand, whatever the outcome of this CCT case, the political career of Saraki has been seriously dented. |
