I travelled through Enugu to Onitsha yesterday on the Expressway and truly very huge stone signs with the inscription SUKUK inscribed on them were conspicuously displayed all over the length and breath of the road undergoing construction.

I am baffled by this Governments brazen and insensitive approach towards forcing a people with different values and religion to "taunt" them that by showing that the road in their region is being financed by Islamic bond.

For over 50 years and still counting, all roads, projects and indeed all governments in the entire North have/are financed by oil from the South. I have never seen on any Federal or state road the acknowledgement of the project being financed by proceeds of Oil from the South South or indeed by Oil from the Christian South.

Why then are we assailed by all these signs affirming that a Federal road is being financed by Islamic bond?
