Please let us all be patient..I know the whole wait is very frustrating, but the truth is that: graduate recruitment like this takes lots of time. Look at KPMG, people take up to One year or more to finalize the graduate recruitment process.
I also called a friend that is already back from India and he told me that the recruitment looked fairly transparent.
Finally, let us remember That the refinery is yet to start operations and adding so many trainees now will be like adding to the present overhead

Unfortunately, if I were on the panel, I would also be upset. However we look at it, it is not a good decision to ask about what the job you are interviewing for, entails.

It's a fundamental error and it will take very strong performance during the course of the main interview (ie your earlier response to technical questions) for the error to be overlooked.

The interviewer doesn't have to have another candidate to be turned off by that question.

I had one of such interviews and I couldn’t ask my interviewer but it got to a point the interviewer cut me along the way and said the position you are advertising yourself for has been taken and can I handle a new role i never prepare for. I just did my best and got the job.

I doubt you truely understood what you posted earlier. That you scratched the surface of organic, inorganic and physical chemistry does not mean you did majority of chemistry. A very spurious conclusion to say the least. By you logic, another chemical engineering graduate could claim that he did most of the physics courses because he did electricity & magnetism, properties of matter and practicals in physics. Same could be said for maths. How far did you go in your physical or organic chemistry? Did you study and experiment in detail the reaction steps and pathways in synthesis of organic compouds like the chemistry guys? Were you taught in detail and with experimentation the various theories in the field of molecular interactions (i.e. bond destruction and formations)? If you really did up to 50% of dedicated chemistry modules in professional detail in addition to transport phenomena and the likes, then you should have been awarded a double honours in Chemistry & Analytic Sciences and Chemical Engineering. On the contrary, what you were taught in the school of chemical engineering was cherry picked to give you and overall understanding of how to design your equipment.

Don't get it twisted. Chemical Engineers did chemistry but to think you did 'most' of what is in the core chemistry modules either stems from poor understanding of what chemistry really is or just plain mischief. I think it is necessary I also state that Chemical Engineers and Chemists are unque professionals. None is superior to the other but you appear to think that chemistry is a subset of Chemical Engineering.

We have to be sure he’s a chemical engineer sef. I’d advise you leave him maybe his school duped him of the real chemical engineering. He must have studied chemistry engineering to even make such arguments
