Family › Re: The Day You Realize Your Parents Were Stronger Than You Thought by femi4: 10:00pm On Jun 19 |
Dpsychologist: One of the biggest shocks of adulthood is discovering that life is much harder than it looked when you were a child.
Many young people grow up feeling disappointed in their parents. They see poverty, financial struggles, unfinished dreams, and hardships. Some even tell themselves, "I will work harder than my parents and become far more successful."
At first, it sounds easy until adulthood arrives. Bills begin to pile up. Jobs become difficult to find. Businesses fail. Responsibilities multiply. Unexpected emergencies appear. The same person who once criticized their parents now finds themselves working long hours, struggling to save money, and fighting daily battles nobody sees.
Suddenly, a painful realization emerges.
The parents they looked down on were raising children, paying rent, feeding a family, handling pressure, and surviving in circumstances that were often worse than what they face today.
Many people eventually discover that their parents achieved more with fewer opportunities.
This does not mean every parent made perfect decisions. Some certainly made mistakes. However, adulthood teaches a valuable lesson: surviving is often harder than judging.
Life has a way of humbling people.
The father you thought lacked ambition may have been carrying burdens you never knew about. The mother you believed was not successful may have been sacrificing her own dreams to keep the family together.
Growing older often replaces criticism with respect. Nothing exposes the weight your parents carried more than carrying your own.
Adulthood is the stage where many people stop asking, "Why didn't my parents do better?" and start asking, "How did they manage to do all that and still keep going?"
Sometimes wisdom is realizing that the people you once thought were weak were actually stronger than you ever imagined.
Now our time is more difficult than theirs. Things are more expensive and life is more difficult. They still had better life, compared to todays Nigeria They never worried about school fees until higher institution stage |

Career › Re: An Interview That Left Me Thinking.!! by femi4: 9:53pm On Jun 19 |
Gentlesoul2021: Good day Nairalanders.!!
I had an interview today that sparked an interesting conversation about career growth and employee retention.
The Senior HR Manager questioned why I hadn't stayed longer with my previous employers. Looking at my career journey, I spent 2 years with my first company, 1 year with my second, and I'm currently 9 months into my present role. All three positions have been directly related to the role I was being interviewed for, giving me over 3 years of relevant experience, while the job requirement specified 1–2+ years of experience.
The concern raised was that the company is looking for someone who has demonstrated longer tenure with previous employers and is likely to remain with them for many years.
While I understand that perspective, I couldn't help but reflect on the realities of the Nigerian job market. Many professionals make career moves when opportunities arise that offer better compensation, improved benefits, greater responsibilities, career advancement, or the chance to develop new skills. Such transitions are often driven by growth and ambition rather than a lack of commitment.
In my view, tenure is important, but so are the results delivered, the experience gained, and the value created in every role. A professional's impact should not be measured solely by the length of time spent in an organization, but also by the contributions made during that period.
For hiring managers and HR professionals, especially those recruiting in Nigeria, how much weight should be given to length of service versus career progression, skills acquired, and proven performance? That's how Nig HR thinks, in abroad they don't see it as a flaw especially if you can get recommendation letter from your past employers |

Flangelo12: Lots of people would blame him.
You come to his defence and you're likely to be labelled a wapist.
Truth is, his orientation/culture failed him.
Unfortunately, that's not a legal excuse when you are not wealthy and from.an African nation.
The law should consider if someone is truly a menace to society when such cases are judged.
There were indeed mitigating circumstances, but Shugbon, nobody wants to heat that. Culture didn't fail him, lawlessness did We have same rules in Nigeria but it is not enforced. So when we tell you people to behave yourself, you ll rather argue with your key pads until experience teach you a lesson |

LEXYLOV: SA is an average team. We are talking about world class teams like Spain, Brazil Portugal France etc. Apart from south Africa is an average or even below a bit, The nemesis of their actions towards their black brothers and sisters within Africa is also catching up with them. And it has nit even start yet. There are price for everything including human actions. The topic didn't say that. Stay with the topic |

LEXYLOV: The tournament just start bro. It is too early to judged anyone or team. Under performed tesm at the beginning usually does better as they progressed. Check out the tournaments history not only wc but generally. Things will still changes in the next 2 remaining group matches. Same thing we said concerning SA, now they are losing the second game |
Sports › Re: Who Is Under The Most Pressure Going Into World Cup Round Two? by femi4: 5:27pm On Jun 18 |
LEXYLOV: You guys should stop your mental challenge talks over portugal and cr7. Portugal 🇵🇹 with cr7 is still one of the best team in this wc. The surprise performance that drc qave yesterday can weight down any team out there. Your Messi team won't have the same easy game they had with weak Algeria team they play. Do you watched the matter? SENEGAL, CABO VERDE AND DRC performances so far in this tournament will upset Argentina by far magin if they met eventually the same. So stop hyping. It depends on the team performance you met bro. Portugal 🇵🇹 gave their best like Spain did. Messi lost against underdog Saudi Arabia in Qatar on their first match and your Messi play full game no one crucified him. Wait let Argentina meet better team first before you guys talk out your Messi louder. Its not about Cr7 but the overall play. From the friendly against Nig to their first game against Congo, they never look like a team |
