Politics › Re: Jungle Justice: The Hypocrisy Of The Southern Nigerians By Salihu Tanko Yakasai by femi4: 8:27pm On Nov 24, 2025
NairaX:
True, the South has had moments of unity — Baddo, Bakassi Boys era, even the EndSARS wave showed people can stand together when pushed to the wall.
But let’s not pretend the South is consistently principled while the North is consistently tribal. That’s just rewriting history.

When issues touch local strongmen, cult groups, politicians, or ethnic interests, southern outrage suddenly becomes whisper-level too. We’ve seen communities protect killers because they’re “our boys,” and we’ve watched governors tiptoe around cult violence for political survival.

The North has its own defensive reflex, the South has its own selective memory.
Different styles, same problem: people only shout when the victims look like them.

If we’re serious about fixing the country, dropping this “our region is better behaved” mindset is the first step.
Just give instances where the North were in unity

There is a reason why these people feel comfortable operating from the north. The way you listed endsars, baddo etc...Try and see if you can list any for north.

Imagine bandits are shouting "Allah akbar" before killings and there's no condemnation from alfas or imams. Unfortunately, it's out of their control now

I get what you’re trying to say, but reducing the difference to “education” alone is too simplistic.
Both regions have their own forms of silence, hypocrisy, and selective outrage — they just play out differently.

In the South, people make noise online but still ignore cult killings, ritual murders, and mob justice in their own streets.
In the North, some communities keep quiet out of fear, trauma, or distrust of authorities — not because they “prefer” to cover it up.

Violence doesn’t respect geography, and pretending one region is morally superior only keeps the cycle going.
If anything, the real difference is leadership and accountability, not the average citizen’s classroom level.
We are not silent here in the south. That's why the killings and abduction were reduced. For instance in Baddo era, no one was defending tribe or religion. Everyone was in accord till the people behind the killings were caught

In the north, its always you are attacking our tribe / religion

Just yesterday, they tried to cancel Netflix for streaming "The herd"

Nollywood had made films in time past about ipob, Nigeria delta bunkering et al without anyone thinking along the line of tribe n religion

Interesting perspective. It’s true that every region has its own challenges, yet we often focus on the problems “elsewhere” rather than reflecting on our own backyard.

Makes you wonder — is this selective outrage just human nature, or does it show how deeply politics and bias shape public discourse in Nigeria huh
The rate of killing and abduction in the north is crazy. The difference between southerners n Northerners is education.

We condemn killing, rape and abduction here but the north prefer to cover up theirs. I won't blame them cos just few are educated

The Cameroon squad of 1990 actually did win AFCON in 1988 — same core group — and they beat Nigeria in the final. So yes, they were Africa’s pride, but let’s not twist basic history

@whippersnapper
Do you have issue with comprehension at all

Cameroon was remembered as the pride of Africa for their exploit in 90 world cup despite failing to win AFCON in 1990 and 1992 and not Algeria or Ivory coast that won in those years

Please read slowly and comprehend before you reply
