Car Talk › Re: Manual Vs Automatic: Which Car Do You Prefer? by femi4: 9:38pm On Jul 16, 2025
obembet:
As for me, I will always prefer manual auto over automatic. I know some of us will say it's for poor but no. You are economical, you will understand why manual is ahead of Automatic

Why Manual transmission can be considered better than automatic in certain situations due to the following reasons:

1. Better Control

Manual gives the driver full control over gear selection, which can be helpful in tough driving conditions like: Hilly terrain, Slippery roads, Off-road environments

2. Fuel Efficiency

Manuals often get better gas mileage (especially in older or budget cars) because they don’t have the added weight or energy loss of automatic components.

3. Lower Cost

Cheaper to buy: Manual cars usually cost less upfront. Also it's Cheaper to maintain: Manual transmissions are mechanically simpler and often less expensive to repair or replace than automatics.

4. Better Performance

Enthusiasts often prefer manuals because, They allow quicker acceleration (in some cases). Also, They offer a more “connected” and responsive driving experience.

5. Less Theft Risk

In some regions, fewer people know how to drive manual, which can make manual cars less attractive to thieves. My view anyway

6. Longer Lifespan

A well-maintained manual transmission can last longer than an automatic, especially older automatics that are prone to early failure.

I believe Automatics are easier to drive, especially in heavy traffic or for beginners.

So great Nairaland, what's your options?
Is that even a debate when the world is moving to a self driving vehicles. Manual shouldn't be talked about In this AI age

Romance › Re: You Don't Owe Your Parents Anything by femi4: 9:01pm On Jul 16, 2025
Sirchiboy:
Parenthood is responsibilty not an avenue to breed kids in the hope of making them your retirement plan.
This is very common in African culture where parents make their kids their life time retirement.
Every parents should plan for their future retirement.
You can decide to support them once in a while but not a most it is your reponsiblity to cater for them in their old age.
Unfortunately, it's those parents that didn't invest in their kids education et al that sees them as retirement plan e.g Mohbad's father

It's nice to be back on here really, a lot of changes have happened on this great platform.

I dropped a thread a few years ago about how I was able to stop smoking a few years ago, check my profile.

Now, I've been thinking lately about how I was able to stop that addiction and how I never looked back. Recently I stopped gambling too it's been 9 long months without giving my hard earned money to bookmakers. I'm wondering if other people find it this easy to quit a bad habit.

I hate to admit that I find myself addicted to a lot of immoralities and I've taken it upon myself over the years to TRY to QUIT these things. Recently I stopped watching porn I started at the beginning of this month so far so good, though I get the strongest urges to go back into watching porn, eventually the urge might win but for now I'm winning.

So Great minds, have you ever been addicted to certain things and have you been able to quit? If yes Drop some tips for those still struggling?

Cheers to all great mods of nairaland and all members in general. It's really nice to be back.

I would say Teaching profession.

Gone are the days people used to Respect and admire Teachers. Today, teachers are the Most Mistreated, disrespected and neglected profession especially in Nigeria.
Ladies are unwilling to get married to a man who is a teacher because they are perceived as being poor and always broke. Teachers aren't sufficiently renumerated in today's Nigeria.

obembet:
90% were eliminated

Can you solve this simple mathematics? Let see who will give us the best answer
Solution:
1. Number of men: 7

2. Number of wives:
7 (since each of the 7 men has 1 wife)

3. Number of couples:
7 (7 men and 7 wives form 7 couples)

4. Number of children per couple:
7 (as each man and each wife have 7 children, implying 7 children per couple)

5. Total number of children:
7 couples * 7 children/couple = 49 children

6. Total number of people:
7 men + 7 wives + 49 children = 63 people
