the day a trader start calculating his trades in percentage, that's the first stage of beating emotions in trading.....
secondly when you place a trade just assume you're already at loss...
when you place your stoploss and take profit...
allow the trade to run, if you're able to do this youre 70 percent close to been a profitable trader...
thirdly you need to Know your win rate and lossing rate....

for example I'm a scalper...
I go in with the mindset of two straight wins a day I call it quit for the day....

and two straight loss I also call it quit for the day....

I know some brokers have different accounts: for example, fxtm and hotforex offer accounts that they only charge spreads but their spread is high especially during closing and opening trading hrs and also during major news while the same brokers also operate accounts with low spread, as low as 0 spread on EU but charge commission, $4 and $3 respectively.
Just want to know the difference and the one with low cost on the part of the trader. Though the minimum deposits for these accounts are different - accounts with commission is higher, $200 minimum. Which one is preferred in terms of cost of trading: high spread or low spread with?

Not all broker charge commission. If ur broker charges commission u'll see when u execute and close a trade. It's a fee some brokers charge while some factor fees in spreads. How they calculate fees isn't something u should be interested in. Just look for a broker with low fees or ones with good spreads.

One thing I have learnt in this prop firm journey is that it instills discipline which is the key to success in this business. I had to cherry pick trades and focused on just Gold AND GU. I never believed I could master gold a pair that blew my $500 acc with IC market last yr in less than a week. With the rules in place overtrading is avoided something we don't do when trading personal acc. Like someone mentioned earlier, using percentage growth is a better measurement of progress than quantifying ur profits in dollars. Shout-out to all the bosses for the motivation it won't have been possible without d positive vibes here.

1% for today. Making 4% for the week.

I have been able to reduce my risk to 2% per trade and if trade don't go well, I make little or nothing or 2% loss at most.

I decided to try out little percentage growth rather than chasing money cos there will never be enough to chase.

Will invest extra 2k USD by January so my 2% gain a day or 5% gain a week can mean something reasonable. For now, consistency.

If you don't blow your trading account over several months but rather grow on a steady path you have passed the first battle.

This little wins have made me more calm and appreciative of what the market offers me. This forex game is brutal so one must be structured and principled else, it takes on bad trade to fall back to square one.

Just to learn from other people's responses.

I did a little research and i asked myself, why do people loose fund on Forex which seems to be simple to a lay man. I described it as simple because, its either the market is going up or going down. this means for every decision you have 50% probability.

however, pple still loose as i did last year with an account of $7000 which made me took a break of about 12 months to enable me get out of the debt i incurred. In retracing my steps, i discovered the followings:

(1) forex is not a get rich quick platform. May be if we reduce our expectations to about 10% to 30% possible monthly return, then account blow out will reduce.
(2) Forex is for the deep pockets. If u do not have at least a minimum of $1,000, Please make use of Cent accounts as lot size in standard account with less than this amount may be overrun easily.
(3) Greed is a major factor in loosing account. If this can be suppressed even in the face of fascinating or a promissory entry.
(4) Do not play with other pple's money or promising pple you can give them a specific return. Market is unpredictable and dynamic. it may not go your way at times. so if u have over promised, the pressure to deliver can ruin the account.

Just a contribution. Other opinions are welcome.

Update on this trade calls;

1) UsdCad is doing great, I expect it to hit TP next week though I'll be looking out for reversal signs.

2) XauUsd hit SL. Gold sha...

3) ChfJpy did well but I didn't enter the trade cos it didn't retrace to my point of interest. I'm expecting it to reach TP by next week.

4) UsdJpy did well also and will likely reach TP next week.

The stage you are right now is what I called "The fake reality stage" it is a stage were you will be having winning trades back to back and you will be like "wow, after all this years I finally figure out Forex" but unkown to you you were just been lucky for some few months, so u mistake this luck for skill, No, it is not skill but luck, then all of a sudden your so called solid strategy started lossing back to back and you will be like "wait o, what is happen to this my strategy" it have been winning well for the past 5 months , so why is it losing, and b4 u know it you have blow your account again and the strategy that use to look good to you is now useless in your eyes, and this will now bring you back to "The Harsh Reality Stage" this stages mostly come with frustration and depression



In my trading journal, I invented 3 practical ways on how to handle the "fake reality stage" like a pro without getting frustrated and getting back on track, but I am not in the mood to write too much now #Good luck
