With true Fiscal Federalism, SW will be generating nothing less than type 3 or 4 of what is presently obtainable, even if Igbos take all their importations to Onne or Ibaka Seaport.

Certainly. North will still keep importing through the SW.
Nice one. We can turn our Ports to a Transnational Maritime hub for other African countries. After all, non-beninoise also make use of the Ports at Cotonu and Port Novo.
Ogun and Ondo should also start thinking of building their own Ports too. We'v got potentials bro

What are you saying? When did the South West establish its own Customs board? The money Customs generate from import and export duties at the land borders in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo goes straight to the federation account in Abuja. The case would have been the reverse if true fiscal federalism is being practised in Ngeria. I wish you goodluck in your quest for biafra, I also cannot wait for an independent and seperate Yoruba Nation.
Lloydfather:
This is why every Igbo men should believed that oil alone is not why Hausa & Yoruba is kicking against biafra. My brother I can clearly tell u that the land borders in those south west state was where their igr is coming from, who are those patronizing those borders ? The biafrans. The igr of Lagos is coming from no other place than import duties in fact import duties is contributing to 90% of Lagos igr, (both lands and sea borders). And who are those paying this duties? The biafrans. This is why the FG is discouraging any other sea port that will mount as challenge to Lagos port.

When they said biafra is landlocked this is what they mean, the land and sea borders is bringing more Igr than anything else and biafrans are the tools. Think my biafra brothers

Yorubas know how to waste peoples time. They know that the North will not agree to restructuring. Everybody knows that Yorubas do not want Nigeria to break up. So they are going to trumpet restrcturing for a while and do what they are best known for, become the beautiful bride of the North.

When Yorubas talk about restructuring, I dont take them serious
In 1949, Obafemi Awolowo wrote a book tittled 'Pathway to Nigeria's Freedom' in that book he argued that an independent Nigeria should be structured into a very loose federation whereby all ethnic nationalities contained therein would be able to determine their own political, economic, and social affairs without undue interference from others. Guess who was against this noble suggestion? An ibo man, Nnamdi Azikiwe !! It was this same Azikiwe, insisting on one Nigeria, formed an alliance with the Northern Peoples Congress to make up the coalition government of the first Republic with Tafawa Balewa.

That epithet 'Beautiful bride of the North' was used by Alhaji Shehu Shagari as a slur against Namndi Azikiwe and his ibo people.

Break Nigeria into two ke? Mbanu!

Nigeria should be broken into 20 countries! Or more sef.
Of course. After all, out of the defunct Union of Soviet Sociaist Republics we now have Russia, Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, Turkeministan, Uzbekistan, Kazakstan, Krygstan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan etc. So it would not be bad if Nigeria, for the sake of peace, and for the avoidance of future conflict and bloodletting, is balkanized into multiple part

it just does not make sense. Why should Governors build Mosque and churches? Why should Governors-- some cannot pay their workers salary--continue to budget millons of Naira for Christian and Moslem pilgrims going to Jerusalem and Mecca from their respective state every year?

Kenya recently commissioned a Chinese built express Railway linking the Capital, Nairobi to the Port city of Mombasa. This Railway would further link up Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Rwanda, and Burundi to the Indian Ocean. Why are we not embarking on grandiose project like this instead of wasting limited state funds on religious matters and other frivolities

N566 million.

Is this a joke?

Is this personal or state money?

If state money, how exactly is this justifiable? Is government money used to build churches in Nigeria? If no, why is it being used to build mosques?

The money might be part of funds given by foreign development agencies. Ninety five percent of monetary aids in Nigeria that comes from USAID, UNFPA, UNDP, DFID, UNICEF, CIDA etc, goes to the North. And what do they do with all the money? Build more Mosque and Koranic centers !!

Totally irrelevant and a pathetic attempt to detract from the matter of this thread. Were your folks celebrating the marginalization of Yoruba on this thread idiots?

Did you and your folks not rejoice on this thread that Yoruba felt marginalized and even encouraged GEJ to do it the more?

Did your folks not celebrate Nigeria here with some even talking of pushing Yoruba out of the Union so that we won't partake of the 'goodies of 1 naijeria' with you and the north? Did Afam not denigrate Yoruba for pushing for the same regionalism your kith and kin are being shot over today?

Did any single one of your folks on this thread remember Biafra in all their gloating at 'Yoruba misfortune'?
When Gej was the president, an ibo was the facilitator of TAN. Ibos were the predominant members of The Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria, but when Gej lost the election and the ibos lost out of the corridors of power at the center, they now remembered that Nigeria was a zoo

Just today, i heard an igbo man saying that after buhari's turn, power should be transferred to the them. Is this how a country should be? Should everything be about ethnic sentiments? Nigeria can never move forward at all because we are too diverse. Since we cannot stop all these ethnic sentiments, why cant we just go our separate ways? What have you benefited in nigeria? Is it poor power supply, health care, educational system, or population? cheesy

Were Yoruba's the one singing Ewu Ne Ba Akwa, in mockery of the Northerners who were still mourning their leaders that were killed by the ibo coupist?

Were Yoruba's the ibo agent provocateurs who printed defamatory materials about the late Balewa and Bello, which made the Military government to promulgate Decree 44?

The position of Governor General and President under the 1960 and 1963 constitutions were the same except for the title. I checked the constitution and it does not grant any power to President to appoint VCs of Universities arbitrarily as you are alleging.

So you mean Zik did all that and nobody called him out for abuse of power that he did not have?

Akintola's lies were monstrous and devilish.
I guess you read the Aba made version of the constitution. The President, Azkiwe had the powers to make appointments. The constitution even gave him the powers to appiont Judges after the Privy Council In London ceasaed being the Highest Court of the land. Offcourse he was called out. Akintola pointed out Azikiwe's nepotism, that was why the latter was killed by the blood sucking bo coupists.

Eni Njoku was made the V.C of Unilag a year before Nigeria became a republic. The republic constitution was drafted in 1963. Before then, Nnamdi Azikiwe was the first and only Nigerian to be the Governor General of the country. By virtue of his position, he was the Head of State of Nigeria representing the Queen. Azikiwe used his position to promote ibo greed and nepotism.
The 1963 republican constitution gave Azikiwe the power to make some appointment with the approval of the Prime Minister. Azikiwe abused this powers in favour of his ibo kinsmen

Ibo coupist killed Samuel Ladoke Akintola

Ibo coupist killed Ralph Shodeinde

Ibo coupist killed Samuel Ademulegun

Ibo coupist killed Hajiat Latifat Ademulegun(a pregnant woman)

..... but the ibo coupist found it hard to kill their own ibo leaders, and they want us to belive that the coup was a genuine revolution. Hahahaaaaa. I laugh in marginalisation

joeyfire:

I want to ask you a question, was Azikiwe not a ceremonial president?? Not even as powerful as a First Lady? What power would be have had to impose two unqualified Igbo men in the region of Awolowo that he respected and almost feared? You haven't given me the facts that I asked for by the way. You are only stating your theory not facts. Please don't overlook the fact that the mayor of our then capital was a fulani man and the chief accountant Mr. Willoughby was a Yoruba man.

So are you implying that Zik stayed away to avoid the coup? Well I can say this... If Zik was part of the coup then why did he need to "run away". He could as well have stayed knowing he wouldnt have been touched. You see, all conjecture and opinion but not facts. Are you also alluding to the fact that Okpara invited President Makarios to avoid the coupists?? These sorts of speculations can be twisted any way. Its unfortunate that politicians like Akintola and Ahmadu Bello polluted the air with all these types of prejudice and bigotry.

Akintola told lies in that his hate speech and its very unfortunate the type of legacy he left behind.

Eni Njoku and Kennth Dike were made the VC's of University of Lagos and University of Ibadan not because they merited the position. Their appointment was based on nepotism and ethnic favoritism as instigated by Nnamdi Azikiwe who was the president. Professor Saburi Biobaku was meant to be the VC of Unilag instead of Eni Njoku.

When the ibo coupist struck in January 1966, Azikiwe was miraculously out of the country; Okpara was incidentally with the Cypriot Prme Minister. Very funny. Why did the ibo coupist kill Hajiat Latifat Ademulegun, the pregnant wife of Brigadier Samuel Ademulegun? The blood thirsty ibo coupist killed a pregnant and innocent Yoruba woman but they spared their own regional leaders, yet they want us to beilive that the coup was executed in good fate.
joeyfire:

I honestly can't say WHY those two Igbo men were appointed VC of UI and Unilag but I can ask WHY NOT? A fulani man was Mayor of Enugu at that same time as we all know. A Yoruba man was also chief accountant in Enugu at the time and of course there were qualified Igbo accountants for the job. Unless you can help me with facts as to the better qualified Yoruba sons who were intentionally left out I really can't answer that. I believe that Nigeria then was a very different load from the divided mess of today. I believe politicians like Akintola divided this country and prompted questions like what you have asked.

As for why the coupists (who were not all Igbo by the way) didn't kill Zik and Okpara, let us not forget that Zik was not in the country when the coup hit and Okpara didn't shoot at them, he was hosting the President of Cyprus when they came for him. You will be incorrect to allude to the fact that the coup plotters aimed to take out every single person in government. Not so. Read "Why we struck" by Ademoyega (one of the coupists) and you will get a clearer picture

Akintola told some despicable lies here and twisted the truth to whip up anti-igbo sentiment to impress the north and service his ambition to upstage Awolowo

Secondly Akintola was targeted by the coup plotters because he was part of the government and let's not forget the instigator of the western region crisis highlighted by massive election rigging and anarchy which claimed thousands of Yoruba lives. Not because of this degenerate hate speech you reproduced here.

It's your prerogative to swim in your hatred and prejudice but historical lies must be busted. cool
Why dont you point out the lies specifically. Is it a lie that Eni Njoku and Kennth Dike, two ibo men, were VC's of University of Lagos and University of Ibadan while better and qualified Yoruba's were denied those positions in their own land.

If you say the ibo coupist killed Akintola because he was part of the government, why did they not kill ibo politicians who were also part of the same government? Why was Azikiwe spared? What of Kingsley Mbadiwe, Micheal Okapara and other ibos, why did the ibo coupist not kill them also?

wirinet:

I doubt Yoruba's having a separate country would eliminate ethnic sentiments and therefore lead to a peaceful country. There are lots of intertribal political conflicts within the Yoruba's, it has remained mainly unnoticed because it has been eclipsed by a bigger interethnic and interregional conflicts. Once the bigger inter ethnic rivalries disappear, the local rivalries would escalate.
In Ogun state there is fierce political rivalry between the Ijebus and Egbas. In Yoruba land generally, the Oyo axis is perceived to be too domineering. Even the Royal fathers are not left our of the unhealthy rivalries.
Remember during the first republic when the regions were semi autonomous, the SW was the most unstable.
Prior to the 1960 independence, the golden days in the history of the Western region was the period when the region attained self governing status till the eve of independence. Awolowo was the premier during this period, and the region was the most peaceful and developed

The Awolowo and Akintola feud which led to operation wetie in the western region could be traced to the existence of ''one Nigeria.'' If the Yoruba nation hadn't be part of an independent Nigeria, Awolowo would not have been the opposition leader in the federal parliament; The NPC/NCNC led coalition government would not have attempted to capture the west by hook or crook; some elements within the A.G would not have tried to usurp Awo's powers in the region.

I agree with you about the rivalry that exist among the subgroups within the Yoruba nation, but such rivalries are not as pronounced as it was in the days of yore. The Yoruba's are not ready to fight any Kiriji war among themself again. Moreso, federalism and devolution of powers in its truest form would be practised in a separate Yoruba country.

Southern unity died long before 2011. Southern unity died in 1959 when Chief Obafemi Awolowo's A.G entreated Nnamdi Azikiwe's NCNC to form an alliance in the federal election. Instead of that, Nnamdi Azikiwe teamed up with Mallam Aminu Kano's NEPU to make up the coalition government of the 1st republic with Ahmadu Bello's NPC.

Personally, I do not like the appellation South West. I do not reckon with the so called Southern Nigeria. I prefer the name Yoruba-west, but I'll strongly prefer we Yoruba's be in our own separate and homogenous country.

The political arrangement of Nigeria is not even. It is odd. There will always be cause for conflict. As it was in the 1st republic, so also it is in the 4th republic. We Yoruba's need to get out of this mere geographic contraption.
Omofunaab2:

I have always said this, southern unity died after the 2011 election.. It was not as if yorubas didn't vote for pdp in the presidential election, Infact Jonathan won in the south west except for osun state. But we wanted change in our South West states, so we voted out PDP.

But our South East brothers didn't see that as southern unity. This particular thread tells us the true story of who actually betrayed who. Even in 2011 when our voting pattern was the same with the igbos, our eastern brothers didn't hide their hatred for we yorubas..

This thread needs to be back on frontpage, funny enough Nigeria wasn't a zoo then as long as yorubas were marginalized. .but fast forward to 2015 Nigeria has become a zoo ...even in 2014, nnamdi kanu was caught on tape supporting One Nigeria.

Buhari is not the problem of Nigeria. The problem of Nigeria is in its foundation and structure. Nigeria shouldn't have been created in the first place.

Military Coups, The Unification Decree 34 Of 1966, The Land Use Act Of 1978 et al, added to the foundational problem of Nigeria. Solution? Restructure Nigeria into a very loose federation or outright and complete dissolution of the country

The truth is that igbo culture has no respect for the feminine gender. It is only in igboland that women are not permitted to inherit their fathers property. Their greed was what led them to the biafuro war. Their covetousness was what led them to be slaughtered like goats during the civil war. I forsee an encore.

You do not engage the ibos intelligently and gentlemanly. You respond to his irritation with extreme terror
