Antigua becomes first Caribbean country to allow Rastafari to grow cannabis Visit naijaterra.com. naijaterra.com The PM said he would like to work with the Rastafari community to develop the cannabis industry and in agriculture to combat food insecurity ANTIGUA AND Barbuda has become the first Caribbean country to grant the Rastafari community official sacramental authorisation to grow cannabis. Last week, members of Antigua and Barbuda’s Rastafari community were presented with their legal authorisation during a historic signing ceremony at the Prime Minister’s Office. Prime Minister Gaston Browne praised the Rastafari community for their resilience over the years and granted religious and cultural group the landmark authorising under the 2018 Cannabis Act. At a special ceremony, renowned Rastafari leaders, Glasford “King Sagyefo” Mack of the Nyabinghi Theocracy Church, Kiyode Erasto Straker of the RasFreeman Foundation for the Unification of Rastafari, and Kenrick Lloyd of the Wan Love Chant were presented with certificates by the Medicinal Cannabis Authority (MCA), which will legally allow them the right to cultivate cannabis for religious purposes. “I believe, as a faith-based institution, that your organisation should be respected by all,” the Prime Minister said. “We have adopted many European and non-European religions and we have a Pan-African religion … and instead of embracing it, we have sought to destroy it … I want to encourage you to stand your ground [and] continue to exercise that resilience.” The PM said there needs to be more collaboration between his government and Rastafari community in areas like developing the cannabis industry and in agriculture – to help ensure food security on the twin islands. “One of the areas that we are very pleased … the Rastafari community is well vested, is agriculture and I am hoping that we can have a stronger relationship with the various organisations … to increase food production,” Mr Browne said. He also added he would like the community to assist where they can in preventing youth in Antigua and Barbuda from using cannabis. “The use of cannabis by the youth is strictly prohibited by law and we also want to appeal to the Rastafari community to help us to uphold the law and the standards that the government has put in place to protect our youth,” he added. The new changes make Antigua and Barbuda the first country in the Caribbean to document the right of Rastafari to use cannabis as a sacrament. At the presentation, MCA Director Regis Burton hailed the occasion as an important milestone for the Rasta community. “We know that the history of cannabis has been a long journey and the history of Rastafari has been a tedious one, and we are here to acknowledge the rights … of the Rastafari community,” Mr Burton said. MCA Chairman Daven Joseph acknowledged the significant of the sacramental certificates not just for Antigua and Barbuda, but the rest of the Caribbean. Mr Joseph said: “Antigua and Barbuda is the first in country in the Caribbean that is making the sacramental authorisation lawful—not Jamaica, not St Lucia, [and] not Trinidad and Tobago — so we will stand as a beacon for human rights for the Rastafari movement in the Caribbean.” The government and MCA said it was vital that the Rastafari community are able to reap economic benefits from the growing medical cannabis industry, having been advocates of its medicinal benefits of the herb for several decades. Rastafari elder Glasford “King Sagyefo” Mack of the Nyabinghi Theocracy Church welcomed the move by the PM and said he was “making a great step forward.” In September 2022, Mr Browne’s government condemned schools that discriminate against Rastafarians and students who wear their natural hair in locks. According to the government statement: “The Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda protects freedom of religion, freedom of association, and the right to hold different beliefs from the majority.” According to the government’s policy, schools are not to discriminate against members of the Rastafarian community or those who wear their hair in the same way. On June 14, 2021, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, through the Medicinal Cannabis Authority issued the first official licence for the production of medical cannabis. The first licence was issued to Grow Antigua – a public/private hybrid company that includes the government, Rastafari communities, and private enterprise as central Stakeholders. The Rastafari Movement is a religious, spiritual and cultural way of life, which started in Jamaica during the 1930s. Rastafari communities can be found across The Caribbean, Africa, the UK, Europe, the USA and other parts of the world. Rastafarians believe, the last Emperor of Ethiopia, His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, is the Second Coming of Christ. Early teachers of the Rastafari faith were heavily influenced by the philosophies of Marcus Mosiah Garvey and began preaching about the divine Kingship of Ethiopia and the divinity of the Emperor. Last month, anger erupted after it emerged that Canada has been granted a license to import cannabis into Jamaica.

The 35-year-old's PSG contract is due to expire this summer, and he will become a free agent if he does not agree on a new deal. Messi's father and agent Jorge, who is also a Saudi ambassador, has been in Riyadh in recent days, sparking speculation that he could be negotiating a move for his son. Saudi Arabia is looking to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Messi's future, with one of their top clubs Al-Hilal ready to offer him a lucrative contract once their transfer ban finishes at the end of the season, according to Marca.2 Messi's great rival Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in a £175m-a-year deal in December, and Saudi Arabia is now planning to convince the Argentine to follow him by moving to the Middle East. They are believed to be desperate to make the deal happen, with politicians willing to get involved to increase the salary limit in the Pro League so that Messi can play in it.

Visit naijaterra.com A medical doctor, Mrs Sekinat Oredoyin, on Wednesday narrated to a Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja how a prophet, Olushola Akinsipe, allegedly defiled a 13-year-old visually impaired girl under the pretext of performing witchcraft deliverance for the victim. Oredoyin, a public health physician at Yaba Local Council Development Area, was led in evidence by the state prosecutor, Mr Michael Adewoye. The witness told the court that the survivor presented herself for a medical examination alongside her father on December 12, 2020. According to her, the survivor narrated how the defendant, the pastor of Power of the Home Deliverance Ministry, allegedly had forceful penetration with her on five occasions. She told Justice Hakeem Oshodi that the survivor and her father were referred from Owutu Police Station. “The survivor is a visually impaired child and her father took her to the defendant for deliverance. “She said the defendant gave her an unknown substance to drink after that, she could not remember anything but she was able to narrate to her father after he discovered a brownish discharge under her pants and interrogated her,” she said. The witness further told the court that the survivor had hyper-pigmentation around her face and some marks on her waist which the survivor told her were injuries sustained during deliverance. She added, “The survivor said the defendant beat her with banana leaves during deliverance and also scrubbed her back with salt. The medical examination findings were in keeping with forceful vagina penetration. “The blood samples showed pregnancy test was negative but because of the sour on her body, I directed her to Domestic Sexual Violence Agency for counselling. “At that time, she was depressed as she believed that she was the one that killed her mother and she was made to believe that her father was not progressing because of her.” The prophet is facing a three-count of defilement, indecent treatment of a child and trial by ordeal. According to the prosecution, the offences committed contravened Sections 128(b), 135, and 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. Justice Oshodi adjourned the case till April 17 for the continuation of trial. |
nakaman:It's time to stop judging, It's time to stop fighting. When an individual becomes tribal, that individual should be tagged of being tribal but in a respectable manner without generalizing it. This tribal shit is leading us no where but doomed |
The conversation has always been centered towards tribalism We need to change it" Me: How? TT: Let's talk about career! Innovation, Holidays. Me: Let's share ideas! Tribe is just but a distraction. Success is the best revenge. In spite of the obstacles we face, we can't change the perception others have of us. All we can do is choose to live life and make the most of the one life we have. The moment you stop putting yourself in a box is the moment you actually become yourself. Tribalism is more powerful and dangerous than any political party. People choose to follow and support someone, not because they are good as leaders or they have good credibility, But is because they are from the same tribe. As much as it's hard to accept, there is hate deep rooted amongst some people using tribe as a means to a political end or any point of discussion. What makes it dangerous is that politicians have mastered how to weaponize this issue mixing truths & propaganda & religiously defending it. Brothers, Sisters If you truly want to make our nation unity reality, you must be prepared to sacrifice your tribal and religious loyalty, and embrace your global identity. Join our latest online community naijaterra.com We must surely strive to maintain that we will not give room to any discussion that will create disorder, misinformation, insults, online wars. We require individuals who stand for truth, peace, respect and unity, irrespective of where they come from. |

Visit naijaterra.com for more short Sermons this Sunday. Don't forget to join the forum I often go to my local video shop and rent a DVD, usually an overnighter. If you rent The Hobbit, you can watch the movie and enjoy it, but you only have a single night to enjoy the feature film. If you don’t return the video you will get a late fee. The same is true of life, God has given us one life, it is like a short rental. Within that one day he has allowed us to share in the blessings of heaven on earth. However the day will come when we all have to die. If we don’t pay the full price for that video we can no longer enjoy its benefits, not only that we will have to pay a late fee. The late fee for not paying for life is hell, the bible calls it “eternal fire”, “torment”, “outer darkness”, “uninhabitable”, the late fee for our life is horrific, worse than any horror film you may have watched. But the good news is there is someone who has paid the price for our life so we can continue to receive its benefits. God says that if you come into relationship with him as the store owner, he will give you access to life eternally, he has paid the price through Jesus that we may experience life, creativity, and blessing forever. |

VISIT naijaterra.com for latest infos An actress and filmmaker, Kudirat Ogunro, aka Kudi Alagbo, has advised married women to make peace with the fact that their husbands would have girlfriends. In an interview with she said, “These days, one (a woman) needs to have it at the back of one’s mind that at home, one’s husband could be ‘my bear’. But, when he is outside, he becomes, ‘our daddy’. I believe that 70 per cent of men cheat; so for one’s sanity, one should know that a ‘side chic’ exists somewhere. By doing that, one can celebrate more blissful years in one’s marriage. This truth is bitter for some; but the earlier one knows it, the better for one’s mental health.” Kudi also disagreed with the notion that all actresses depend on ‘sugar daddies’ to meet their needs. She said, “I don’t belong to the school of thought that believes actresses depend on sugar daddies to meet their needs. Some may depend on helpers for assistance, but because most of us are in the limelight, any successful thing we do is usually linked to a sugar daddy.”

But leadership is about leading, giving facts, responding to responsibility, managing your time efficiently and effectively as well as the ability to do what you need to do at the time it ought to be done. “And the time it ought to be done is now. I have a superior appointment. Late yesterday, the president called that I should be at his place by 9.45 pm this evening (Friday). What do I do? Cancel it and disobey my president? And it is a command, more or less. (He said) see me at 9.45pm. “I can’t say I would boycott this event or downgrade it. I have got to be here to, first of all, seek your understanding. That is why there is always a pair for races like this. I have a vice presidential candidate. “In my capacity, I will beg the committee of the House or the sponsors of this programme to allow me to leave and choose a new date and then do the dinner again. That is, if you still have the appetite for it. That will mean having a two-in-one event. This one for the vice presidential candidate tonight. He is a man whom I have great respect and confidence in. I believe once I exit, he takes over. I will encourage you to choose a new date for my dinner. I have been looking into the calendar. “Perhaps you may want it as three-in-one. We have an election coming. We win still do election victory (party) because we are confident that we will win. We are sure if you work real hard as we are working now, we desire the joy of victory.” Shortly after giving his speech, the APC candidate excused himself in order to meet up with 9.45 pm appointment with the president. Visit naijaterra.com By Peter Okolie Authorities of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State have initiated moves to unravel the identity of identified graduating female student who boasted on popular social media platform that she graduated with the help of God and use of private organ. The student, had in the video which was also widely shared on Facebook claimed that her pussy was helpful for successful defence of her final year project and the good grades she got in her examinations at the Polytechnic. She said she would have been unable to graduate without the use of her private part to sort her grades and project defense, while thanking God for giving her ‘hot pussy, which has helped her go far in academic. But the management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede did not find the claim funny and has initiated moves to unveil the identity of the students and ascertain her claims. Eucharia Anuna, the Polytechnic’s Registrar, who said this in a statement added that was blasphemous and antithetical that the student peddled the name of the Almighty in her “deleterious act”. “Management considers the action of the student as most unacceptable and preposterous. “The Federal Polytechnic Nekede prides itself as an institution with high academic and moral standards. “Both staff and students are quite aware of the consequences of any misconduct. “In an unprecedented move, management through the various disciplinary committees, had released hot lines through which students can report any act of exploitation or corruption,” the registrar said. Anuna said the committees were diligent in ensuring that any staff or student found culpable was meted with appropriate punishment. She added that the despicable post of the supposed student does not therefore represent the standard of our institution. “The rector of the institution, being a clergyman, has been very committed and consistent in instilling discipline in our students through seminars, solemn assemblies, sensitisation outreaches and publications. “When our investigations are over, we shall make our findings and pronouncements public. “It is in our purview to ensure that only students found worthy in learning and character are certified. “This is a commitment to which we shall remain consistently resolute,” the Registrar added.

Visit. naijaterra.com Ardent presidential aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has recounted his role in the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as President in 2015, maintaining that it is his turn to be president in 2023. Tinubu disclosed this at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta, Ogun State, while addressing the APC delegates ahead of the party’s primary on Thursday. Speaking on Buhari’s victory in 2015, he said: “If not for me that stood behind Buhari, he wouldn’t have become the President. He tried the first time, he failed. The second time, he failed. The third, he failed. “He even wept on national television and vowed never to contest again but I went to meet him in his home in Kastina and told him he will run again, and that I will stand by him and he will win, but I warned him not to joke with the matters of the Yorubas and he agreed.” He added, “since the time we started with the Action Congress, Action Congress of Nigeria, and now the All Progressives Congress, I wanted to contest for president that time. Tinubu also revealed how Buhari wanted to make him his running mate in 2015 which he (Tinubu) accepted but was forced to relinquish to Osinbajo, when concerns were raised over a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the APC. “You have not heard this from me before. This is the first place I am saying this. Buhari called me to be his Vice President. He said because the first time he contested, he picked (Chuba) Okadigbo, flamboyant, Catholic, but Nigerians didn’t vote for him. “The second time, he picked another Igbo, (Edwin) Ume-Ezeoke, Nigerians didn’t vote for him. And he said that even if he went to bring the Pope to run as his deputy, Nigerians won’t vote for him, but he said, ‘You, Bola Tinubu, you have six governors, you have never lost an election before, come and be my deputy’. “He knew all the calculations then favoured us. That is why he wanted me as his Vice but I told him to let us build the party first. And when we finished building the party, after we brought in people from the PDP, (Bukola) Saraki now saw that those from the PDP would not get anything if Buhari, a Muslim, becomes the president. And if I, also a Muslim, becomes his Vice, he won’t get the Senate president because the Senate president cannot also be a Muslim. That was how they started the campaign of calumny against me. “I told them that I have a candidate that is a Christian that I can nominate so that the party would not break. That was how I nominated Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. I surrendered my right to him. “I was asked to submit three names, Yemi Cardozo, Wale Edun, and Yemi Osinbajo, but I told them that if I submit three names, they would play a game—they might make it four and pick the fourth one. I gave them one name and that was Osinbajo.” Speaking on why he is the best choice among other aspirants in the South-West, he said, “ The former governor of Lagos State, who lamented that since Buhari became President, he has not benefited anything from him, also spoke on why he is the best choice among other aspirants in the South-West. “Since he became the President, I have never gotten ministerial slot. I didn’t collect any contract, I have never begged for anything from him,” he said. “It is my time, I’m educated, I’m experienced. I have been serving people for a long time. It is the turn of the Yorubas, it is my turn. Bring me the presidency, it is my turn.” |

In a new development, the actress claimed she was unaware that Suleman was married as he had told her he was separated, adding that during their affair, he proposed to her ‘more than seven times.’ She also said she didn’t know he was a pastor as the cleric lied that he was a motivational speaker, and that she lost three pregnancies during the relationship. In a tweet, Charly Boy said he dreamt where some women attacked Suleman. He also suggested that the cleric should open a brothel as a side business. “No be say I too like to yab pastors but I know many Nigerian pastors are either fraudulent, or just scumbags. Dats putting it mildly. But dis one takes the cake,” the tweet reads. “Suleman, u better be careful ooo. Source naijaterra.com A female teacher identified simply as Chukwuka, has accused an Onitsha-based medical doctor, Dr. Walter Igbokwe, of dragging her to Omaliko Idemili deity in Anambra State, over an N600,000 unpaid hospital bill. Chukwuka has petitioned the Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA), and human rights organizations, among others, to come to her rescue. According to her, she signed owing the doctor under duress to enable her to take her mother to a better hospital as her health was deteriorating and the doctor had insisted that either she pays the amount or sign an agreement with him before taking away her mother. “Since then he has been whatsapping me, threatening my life that I will die if I eat his money and that is why I draw your attention to inhuman, unbearable, and despicable treatment being meted out to me by somebody who calls himself a medical doctor,” the woman lamented. “One of the threats is in the WhatsApp he sent to me saying, you are requested and invited to appear at the Arusi Omaliko Ofia, (deity), in Abatete community, tomorrow, 9th day of December 2022, by 9 am Tomorrow 9th December, being Friday. He had his hospital, Health Foundation, at Obosi but now relocated to Chumex Hospital Nkpor. “He told me to deposit #150,000 which I borrowed money and paid as a civil servant, and N75,000 for drugs which I also borrowed money and paid him, yet no drug was provided for my mother. “Later he told me to provide N25,000 to pay a physiotherapist for treatment of my mother which I paid him but he gave him N5,000. He is merely interested in making money, not saving lives in tandem with physicians’ oaths. “He coerced and forced me against my personal wish and desire to sign an undertaking to pay him the balance of the money. My mother was discharged almost dead because of lack of good medical attention and she died a few weeks later. “I have been subjected to inhuman treatment, humiliation, insults, intimidations and threats by Dr Walter Igbokwe over non-payment of an unjustifiable and barbaric hospital bill. “Worst still he submitted my name to many deities and shrines that some have invited me to, which I refused to honour because it is against my faith as a Christian,” the female teacher added. In a swift reaction when contacted by newsmen, Dr Igbokwe, denied all allegations stating that he never dragged her to any deity but admitted that one could use any means to recover his money. “Let her show proof of my dragging her to a deity. She claimed to be a Christian and had time to go about writing petitions but could not have time to pick my calls as one he owes for about four to five years now but have time for petition,” the doctor said. “We had an agreement which she and I signed that she will pay at so and so time. When the mother was brought to the hospital they didn’t open the folder, they did not deposit any money. For seven days I used my money for treatment. Her mother was better when she left my hospital and stayed a long time before she died, she didn’t die in my hospital. “She has not been picking up my calls and if she said I approached a shrine that she will not go to as a Christian, did she approach somebody she owes for about five years as a Christian she claimed to be. I am more Christian than she is. I don’t know why people will be that wicked. “As a teacher, if the Government is owing her for one year, will she live? What petition is she writing than to go and make peace with somebody she is owing?” |
