Yes,
schooling in 9ja University issa mistake in itself.

I wish I had listened to my secondary school teachers and took those SATs and Cambridge classes and exam and focus lesser on passing Jamb.

Those I knew I were better than in sec scho were smashing SATs getting half scholarship to school abroad, I dey dey read for mumu Jamb.

Maybe I would be have been outta this shit hole by now

Bro, you just dey think like me. If say I know wetin I know now, I swear I for no waste my time with JAMB. I for don collect scholarship Jápá from here... then the Nordic schools were free.

I gained no useful skill in Uni despite with my course. I can not operate a lathe machine or drill press now; Not to talk of a CNC machine. I can't use a welding machine. The whole uni education did not give me skill..... Just rubbish theory theory theory!

YouTube teaches better than this rubbish schools here. My pikin no go repeat that mistake. He must get skill skill skill skill...Hands-on skill.

Now the kid, at his early age, is take advice to learn coding on notepad, designing games on scratch... Teaching him 3D design and printing with a 3D printer. I will get him a laser cutter rigged on a CNC machine.

It's not as if they will carry out any real inspection, just pay and collect PAM and paste on your substandard products.

That will end up being the procedure, is this not Nigeria again.

Thanks bro,

Them go dey shout quality left right center... What's quality? What's the threshold of standard for a product?
Do they have the technicians to ascertain standard for all product?

Example, a blender blade can come in different modes with or without an oil seal, blade bearing; bearing balls can be made cheap with iron or more expensive with Aluminium balls. Ones made of iron rust easily.

Stainless steel come in different grades 304,302 etc.. How them want take know the grade?

This is just a tiny tiny segment of the overall market that they have to ascertain product quality.

I think they should rather rely on consumers feedback to track and trace a product deemed substandard. Test & trace the importer through retailers in the market.

The same sticker with QR code can be easily generated here and slapped on any product.

No brainer!

Bro, the people just no dey use brain. And na them full most government offices in Nigeria. They deliberately kill any idea wey them no go benefit from.

Shebi there is a waterway leading to Lokoja. Is it not possible for barges to haul these container to Lokoja, reducing the distance they need to travel by road? They can build a holding terminal for all shipment heading north at Lokoja or any location with deep waterway for barges.

Shipments heading to Tradefair/Mile 2 / Alaba, can be moved by barges to these locations. Just building the logistics for waterway transport will create jobs.

Lagos has extensive waterways which they can use to move cargo. And there are companies willing to take up the opportunity. Julius Berger is really helping with their tug boats to move barges around Mile2/Apapa axis, not sure of other locations.

Along the waterway from Ojo to Apapa, Petrol and Gas Tank farms next to residential building. One day when one go explode, many homes will be burnt. Why the environmental planners give them permit to build homes there when they'd planned to use the coastal lands as an industrial zone?

Cant the govt call in the brains, and sit them down to think out a solution to this nightmare along apapa road. It's like they all waiting on our lord JESUS.

True. The certificate of insurance bears a unique number which must now be activated first on the ASKNIID.COM which happens to be owned by the NIA. The certificate upon activation by the NIA, would now sync into the CBN's single window portal for activation. It's the insurance company that would send the details to the body for activation while processing your marine insurance oo. Once you click attach after inserting the insurance certificate number on the trade portal , it would automatically accept it if it's genuine, same with the SON or Nafdac product certificate processed by either cotecna, intertek or SGS in your suppliers country or origin. It would be hard to defraud those guys now and I love it grin.

Forget what sterling bank is saying. Forex is scarce like water in the desert. After completing your form M, you'd now queue endlessly for forex bid, which might not come until after 2-3 months. CBN policy could favour you midway shaa as it changes everyday so, let me not discourage you. We bidded for 120k usd and only got 17k USD under the retail SMEs window, wetin we wan take that one do na, after waiting for 2 good weeks and we learnt we cant touch the 17k usd until after 45 days shocked . It was just an option suggested by our account officer after waiting almost forever for forex bid upon completion of form m. If you are not transferring beyond 20kusd, you don't need any form m wahala. It would be approved and done within one week max because funds are always readily available for that from CBN weekly. The CBN allocates forex to banks weekly for SMEs under this window but you cannot do more than 20kusd in a quarter. You may even exhaust the 20k in one transaction if you so wish. All you need do is fill a Form Q and attach your signed commercial invoice and your request on a company letterhead, your CI must have freight included. Good luck bro.

My Form M for my supplier dey valid. But where I dey get issue na my oversea freight forwarder. Because the company wey dey go pick up my shipment after loading dey different from my manufacturer/supplier.

I no open Form M for my freight forwarder. Now to pay them dey hard me because Bank need form M to transfer money. I'm thinking of buying RMB to my account in China and converting it to USD to transfer to the company in NZ. That's only possible if sending from personal account to personal account.

Boys for Dubai say them go collect naira here to give me dollar for there. But those boys for Deira na G guys... and I go need deposit naira here for them for them go give me Dirham and help me wire am to NZ. This option no safe at all...

On the long run I go need go open Form M for my freight forwarder. That means I go get Certificate of Insurance.

Which insurance company make sense? Wey sabi activating the certificate number through NIA?

Another funny thing be say, if you open Form M for one bank ( UBA)... If you wan send money through Sterling Bank, them No go gree collect that Form M.

Sadly, this post would not draw much crowd whereas, this is what affects everyone in the country. Don't mind them. Tomorrow they'd come and be bragging that they're the richest people in Africa, after they must have shortchanged the legitimate SMEs who are struggling to survive. We have been approaching our banks since early april for forex. We have explored all the opportunities, ranging from Investors and importers windows, SMEs retail, SMEs wholesale, to Form Q windows but all have proved ineffective. You can't send cash fx deposited in your acct overseas. It has to be inflows...meaning only fx deposited into your account by transfers only( mainly from abroad or from within same bank internally) can be transferred to buy goods abroad. Bank directors are complicit in this mess. They divert what is meant for the SMEs and sell to the highest bidders like dangote. I don't want to hear anyone calling dangote the richest man again because he took hold of opportunities meant for hundreds of thousands of SMEs nationwide and utilized it solely, for over a decade.

I can count how many times we have had our LC transactions approved...na only dem and tell me how they wouldn't make headway? Yet our banks would keep sending us emails that forex are available to go round. You need rice for instance and everybody else needs rice but you need forex to order rice. You approach the bank and they tell you no forex, after meeting all the requirements. If you had the opportunity to buy the rice and bring it into Nigeria in a vessel in a single deal, you're made for life. But once somebody like dangote places a call through to all commercial bank directors, they'd mop up all the available dollars and give to him, thereby deprive the SMEs who also want to rise and become somebody the opportunity. Otedola, tony elumelu, jim Ovia and the rest are all players in this game of selfishness. Tell me why they wouldn't call them rich after all the opportunities available to others must have been mopped up by them? And if SMEs struggle to get their dollars at the back market to order their goods, they wouldn't be able to compete with the likes of dangote because they'd sell at a higher price...dangote would get in volume and at good rates from bank directors and bdcs ...no be wetin you get, na im you go sell?

Such sharp practices can only be allowed in Nigeria. Emefiele can't say he's also clean in this deal cos that's where they make money too. That's why SMEs are finding it difficult to thrive in Nigeria. Go to America, SMEs drive their economy. You dare not try this shiit over there except you want to spend the test of your life in a correctional facility. Useless govt, useless system we've got.

Bro, I been ask Sterling bank today. Them say with Form M, you fit deposit and transfer upto $10k daily to oversea company.

But problem with Form M now be say to use "dagbo" or fake insurance certificate to open Form M on singlewindow portal no work again. You go need get original certificate of insurance from Insurance company then apply for Form M on single window portal.

My dear, they will still buy, so far as they need it. This challenge is even eased if you can already boast customer confidence.

But even if you can't boast of this advantage yet, you can still arm yourself with patience. Now is not make unnecessary turnovers. It's better you have the goods in your shop, than to sell at a "convenient" price to your customer...and then you won't be able to replace the sold goods.

Increment in prices is supposed to protect you as the seller in the long term, otherwise you go park go village.

It depends. If you are a businessman just like me, invest it in marketable goods. That way, the money is preserved, with the extra profit that comes from it.

Otherwise, you exchange them for dollars.

Another problem be say, in the short to medium term, customers will be reluctant to accept the new prices based on current exchange. That will put a drag on sales. Indirectly pressure on you for turnover.

It's tough. Today 446... Tomorrow 430.. It makes things difficult. You might sell a good at 446 today.. Tomorrow the exchange rate might jump to 460.

What do the society think about the fathers who have been raising kids that they thought were theirs but were created by an outside man?

It's sad that your culture has no problem killing innocent babies through abortion.

Oh.. the society here strongly abhor such behavior. The churches here preach against such conduct. Family tradition stands against it... although with the rise of Wizkid and Davido, the new generation of youths are beginning to feel such is acceptable.

Your second question is quite a difficult one. Some community could make the lady an outcast especially if such a matter was brought before the traditional rulers. Many men may find this difficult to bear, and I strongly doubt such a marriage would stand.

The culture here does not support abortion. The politicians, traditional rulers, and churches all speak against abortion. I think the local law here does not support abortion. Despite all the above, there are cases of illegal abortions at the private hospitals. As I stated it's illegal.

------------
Still curious on the AA perspective on this issue. Do the AA leadership (Jessy Jackson & co) speak against it? What about the churches?

What about the people themselves, do they feel it's acceptable?

Hello Khia,

I 'm a little curious about what the African American community think of those AA women with kids from different fathers or vice versa?

Do they accept them or think it's morally repugnant ?

From the Nigerian perspective, this is "highly" unacceptable, and nobody would want their children to marry from such a family.

Politics / Re: Foreign Reserves Shed $5.09bn In Four Months by fid4fid: 5:41pm On Apr 30, 2020

Unfortunately, you're not entirely correct. The Foreign Reserves is used by the CBN primarily for balance of payment. Basically, that means using the dollars to support importers, travellers, foreign students, foreign investors who want to repatriate their funds, etc. The FG doesn't just go there to withdraw. It's not a "savings account" of the FG.

So, this is how it works. FG total revenue from oil sales L for April is - say - $500 million. The money is paid into an FG account with CBN. CBN then gives the FG a Naira equivalent of that amount. The CBN keeps the $500m so it can use to support imports and other international transactions. The FG has collected all its money in Naira. It cannot just go back to withdraw dollars again.

Foreign Reserves drop when the average inflow is more than outflow. Since Nigeria is an import- dependent nation, there's always demand for USD to meet those import demands. At any time the USD supply reduces but the demand is still constant or even increases, the Reserves will start to drop.

The Truth is - the only reason why the Reserves has not dropped far beyond that is the fact that the global economy is on shutdown and international borders are closed, so there's no much import transactions happening.

I am tired of the lockdown as well but I don't think it's time for the lockdown to be called off...

To those saying the lockdown didn't work.....I hope you are right...but I am sure it worked as it showed us an indication of what is ahead....Those people tested so far are those with traveling history and those that came in contact with them...

Can we be rest assured that all those that came in contact has been fully located and tested (definitely No, My neighbor is one of the medical personnel at the isolation centre in onikan..she said Lagos is really under testing...and I ask why she said the test kit are so limited in supply and that ventilators are as well limited).

If the lockdown is called off or relaxed, we all Sabi as Lagos dey....our bus na hustle..bus stop na hustle...market na hustle..church na crowd..mosque crowd..felashrine crowd...qulox crowd....malls crowd....

If people still disobey the lockdown when it was so called in full flight...do u think when it's relaxed or totally called off people will not just go straight to normalcy.

Can any state in Nigeria handle a surge if things go south ( which I pray it doesn't)

Have u watched the channels TV interview with the deputy coordinator for the covid 19 in their state...he said a reported 640 death in one week..though natural death join but we all know something is wrong...that's because their governor is not proactive enough...

What do I suggest.

- This coming week government should make effort to create local response team in all local government and train personnel to Man those centres...every local government has office already ..that can be achieved in a week...they will deploy trained personnel from the isolation centres and general hospital with adequate PPEs

- Full sensitisation at local level...A team of people go into street with their mega phone...and share safety tips and proper explanation and maybe a small pamphlet with pictures.

- Those centres at local level will be there to test and absorb if any case arise and might be transferred to a mother centre (Onikan, IDH and any other created ) in case of severe issues.

- Government should as well invest in Test kit and ventilators atleast divert some more money to the health sector...

All this is attainable in two weeks....Then the government can relax the lockdown ...But forget it relaxing the lockdown is like suspending it...We all know our kind of mentality in Nigeria here...

My humble Opinion

Bro, I think this na very difficult decision for government... If them relax lockdown this disease fit spread wella. If them uphold lockdown... Hunger dey wella. This be like if you do..wahala, if you don't..wahala. My only fear be say people for here no go gree cooperate. Since the lockdown.. People for street dey hardly wear face mask. If you stand for balcony count people wey dey walker pass ... May be na 1 in 30 you go see wear mask for my area. I no know why e be like this.

Go neighborhood market to buy something, almost all the iya for there no dey wear mask. Na that same hand them use collect money, them go use am use wrapper wipe face for hot sun.

E be like say until people start to hear say "this neighbor done die," "that oga don murd," na then them go wake. I no really know.

The police wey dey road dey after him "roger." Them no ready to enforce compulsory face mask. The Lagos state neighborhood watch boys no go fit enforce am because no carry gun so people no dey fear them. Them self don join police to do road block to dey collect roger from okada and keke.

We go need serious re-orientation for we country on way forward. Situation no dey look good at all.. Oil no sell, govt no get money, dollar na 450 now -things for market go cost, Coro dey disturb hustle many no go pay salary.
