The main gun of a T-72 have a range of almost 2000m, omo before the Hilux even see the tank sef they would have being blown to smithereens talkmore of out running the guns..
Baba dey use us catch cruise..
Many of you are just "theoretical analysts". Your opinions change nothing. You don't send an elephant to fight a cat. ... Use an elephant to fight a buffalo and ... use a cougar to fight the cat. That is intelligence and common sense.

Officers in the frontlines know well that armoured tanks have limited use in fighting bandits. Even in Iraq, ISIS have captured tens of M1A1 Abrams tanks of the Iraqi army

Please educate yourself....

This is where I leave it.

Some people can say what then don't know. shocked

Tanks vs technical (Toyota Hilux guntruck)

Lol, tanks don't stand a chance. The Hilux will outrun any gun on that tank.

In fact the relatively slow tank will become a target practice for RPGs and grenades.

The irony of the bh INSURGENCY would cause the ARMY to expand
capacity is actually closer to 6000.
They are on their way to getting to 200,000.
Very good. For our population of 200million people, we need about 300,000 soldiers and about 100,000 reserves. Added together with some local defence industries, enemies would think twice before messing up.

The DEPOT facility can hold about 4000 to +5000 capacity at a go !
More upgrades and facilities done last two years and currently now.
Ok... that is satisfactory... as long as quality of trainning is not compromised.

Please who has been to that depot recently? Can it train 4000 men at a go. Does it have that capacity, without compromising quality of trainning ?

In addition, local production of weapons have trebled since the boko haram war. A couple of weapons are planned to be assembled in Nigeria in the next 10years, local research, drone technology, rocket propulsion and space research, etc..... these are benefits of frghting rag tag boys sponsored by evil elements...

So, its not always about deaths,,,,, there are benefits as well. A fighting army acquires more experience.... cool

With all the loss of lives and livelihood, which I regret.... I can say that Boko Haram has been a "blessing in disguise" for the army....

Many improvements have been made in the last 10 years, that would not have happened without Boko Haram...

The army has grown from 5 divisions to 8 divisions, each having full compliments of fighting and support elements. The 8 div structure also decreased the AoR for each division and makes fighting and planning easier.. Size of the army has grown, trainning curriculum expanded massively, new skills being learned by the services and used on the frontlines, etc.

Also many weapons are in the pipeline, some silently ordered and awaiting delivery, across the three services. The MoD is on shopping spree, and the navy and army are smiling well. Even the air force too... is happier..

thanks to Boko Haram awakening. As for the deaths,,,, well greatness don't come easy. Sorry tho.

It's been close to 8 weeks since they arrived now, yet they've not been deployed. Are they for decoration?
Use $5million each VT-4 tanks against Boko Haram.. shocked..... and the new anti-tank weapons for boko haram ba huh?

So, what do we use when proper war comes huh

I am a baby I swear. In fact, am back to observer.

The army should use all T-55, Vikers, etc.... all old weapons against these bastard terrorists.... Even at that, all old tanks cannot be pulled from across the country to the NE because the army must maintain readiness in men and armoury across all sections of the country.

Please, let officers think for us. That is their job, they are experts and know better.

And the new weapons are the armoury of the future... I guess. Not for ragtag bandits.

Tobiloba2407:
I read a case study about an evolution in jaji, for lt.to lt.cdr and equivalent course across the armed forces.....the scenario was equatorial Guinea, been used to undermine the federal republic of Nigeria, with France been the puppet master.... this was probably a late 80s course work, and core to the solutions I read was mig 21, with camera going for recon and other variables , and trust me, you will see brains at work and contingency plans and so on......years later, i keep wondering if the way we keep having ambush and other issues in the north east and there seems not to be a counter, are we deteriorating as a fighting force or getting better. The other time it was a Ghanaian lt.col talking about about altimeter Bombs used during Liberia war, used by Nigerian jet.. that I doubt are used now.....I'm a fighting man, and paid my dues....but are we improving or depreciating I'm asking this because I'm a navy guy, and don't know what the land and air forces have in their arsenal.
Go and read the book: The Evolution of War by Maurice Davie. There you will find your answer.

The military never depreciated, war only evolved and all armed forces struggled to evolve. The UK military struggled with the Irish Republican Army IRA for many years, the US and NATO have struggled in the arab world, etc....

That is the situation, not that militaries depreciate. Wars evolve and large armies based on doctrines don't evolve easily until they take some beatings.

youghs:
Nigerian army and the Airforce repelled an attack killing more than 30 BH fighters..

You guys started with the army is always repelling, they should take the war to bokoharam like you weren't on this thread March, April, May.

You moved to Airforce was the only one that did the job, no BH guys died from bullets fired by the army but most of the pictures proved otherwise.
Then you went to, Airforce was late to the party.

And now to the Chadians.

How you guys always try to downplay the military is just incredible.
Thats the reason I always stick up for our military. Now you see what I saw long ago.

But only that o, some will attempt to rewrite African history by naming powerless countries and showing shiny weapons... whilst criticizing Nigerian military. People can write and talk anything.... smh.

I saw the trend long ago and I took bashings and bans for setting the facts and sticking up for myself too.

Well well, these days, na reduced activity I dey.
