Nigeria has been losing Soldiers sincs WW1.... the first ship of British Nigerian regiment that was sailing to fight for Britain hit a mine at sea,,,, all troops onboard drowned.... wasted.... today, we get the glory.
Thousands Nigerian troops died to defeat Germany in Cameroon... wasted troops for a war that don't concern us,,, yet today it is proud history for NA.
10,000 Nigerian soldiers died in Burma, to defeat Imperial Japanese army. Wetin concern us with Asia,,,,, Today, we get the glory defeating Japan.
Nigeria lost 1 battalion in Libaria and another 1 battalion in Sierra Leone...... yet today, we earn the respect. In fact the first set of soldiers that landed in Liberia, almost all were wiped out....
The army is growing.... there are challenges,,,, no army in the world has everything they need.....
Make una relax,,,,, DHQ are not sleeping,,, they are planning. Take it from someone who knows. |

ugo4u: People wey dey busy dey run street for airport/seaports the unlucky ones are condemned to offices where dey pick koboko from passport runs. NIS sometimes last year graduated a set of combatants who were issued Tavor rifles and sexy camos, one would have expected them to be stationed in volatile border communities and rotated as time goes by but Lai Lai! they've converted them to be following their Senior Ogas as escorts. There is a unit that I always see pass my area regularly, well armed and kitted NIS men, if you see them you might mistaken them for black US soldiers but na VIP protection them they do, one of the officers even had an altercation with a street guy and the idiot pulled out his commando knife and be forming KingKong when he is meant to be in northeast. Police/NSCDC/NIS are totally almost useless had it being KPIs are being carried out on gov't agencies them for don shutdown many. We need a total overhaul of the entire system, and it starts from the way we conduct recruitments. The army has its own problems but so far they and the Airforce have justified to a reasonable extent the money spent on them (Recurrent expenditures). Navy and Customs are Siamese twins, na enjoyment those ones dey, why the Navy and Airforce have more welfare packages and incentives for their officers than army remains a mystery to me, it could be maybe because of their small size but I just don't get it. Immigration and NSCDC matter, I will sort them out very soon. Their mumu.ness go reach highest levels very soon |

Leopantro: The flight originated from UK. UK government cannot employ an agency to airlift people again? Thanks for your concern but word from the grapevine is that the issue has been settled and they will still leave over the weekend. Unlike Nigeria the doctors will be going to a place where they will be appreciated. I have a friend who got the letter informing him of the flight arrangements and the visa waiver a few weeks back. Another one quietly left two months ago.
Same process was done for doctors in Zimbabwe last week. This guy,,,, so you support greedy Nigerian doctors emigrating when we need them most abi. You seem like you support their move,, just wait till Coro hits you and your peeps,,,, then you would regret yourself... I am very stupid, I swear. |

komekn: Agreed without reservation or question.
First of all three is a long standing hangover from military rule. That hangover that was birthed from mistrust and indeed the quest of the army airforce and navy to hold on to political power.
The police have always been closer to civilian and they have more manpower. So there was concerted action to downgrade and limit the power and capacity of the police so they cannot contend with the army or neutralise any attempt to prevent a coup.
I was expected a Jonathan Goodluck to know this but he did not think strategically. Former General will keep the status quo.
In Iraq it was the Federal police who were right in the forefront of the battle for Mosul.
The police are more often than not fighting with criminals who are on par with them with regards to weaponry. In general all the police have are AK47's. Criminals gave upgraded but we have not upgraded the police.
In this regard l would immediately restructure the Nigerian mobile police. You are probably taking about 30,000 personal ( guess work) in the Mobil police.
In addition l will stop Mobile police doing guard duty for politicians and manning road blocks, etc.
It will not take a huge amount of retraining. It's the equipment they should have. Immediately procure 1500 assorted armoured vehicles. They will be given 30,000 new assault rifles with optic sights as standard, grenade launchers, 50 Cal. sniper rifles, LMG, paper body armour, Rpg7's, heavy motorised precision mortars.
The mobile police will hold territory and ensure that we have completed control. Then the army has to be more focused on search and destroy not REPEL and wait for Boko to return.
At the moment from the way Boko Haram are able to carry out ambushes it loos like they are laying seige on our Forward bases.
As soon as combatants leave the safety of the base they are easy targets. So Boko at literally controlling the surrounding territory and we are sitting in our super camp bases it seems.
With regards to Boko Haram having pre warning or better intelligence, l doubt it.
I have never seen or had a first hand report of what happens or the modus operandi of Boko in carrying out ambushes.
But from what l have seen l can make a quasi informed deduction of what actually is going on. We know the NA is never going to give us that detail that will not show them in the best light.
One of the first things l noticed by the NA is a notion that there is great strength in numbers, seems we move in large 50 vehicle convoys.
Possibly with a few MRAP's taking a frontal positions. And the vast majority of vehicles probably 80% are soft skinned.
Next thing l notice we follow the same routes time and time again. That means you don't need any prior notice you just need patience. They will be waiting knowing the NA will use this road regularly.
Third thing it seems, we don't have a clear offensive contingency plan to mitigate against ambushes.
Finally, once the convoy gets hit l suspect more probable is a point ambush. Then pandemonium sinks it and everybody keeps going and leave behind those that get hit. Some obviously leave thier vehicles and run through the bush to find safety. Complete chaos and confusion.
I'll leave my assumptive projection here to see what people have experienced and or if my projections are Balderdash. So we should read all this abi,,, you sef na boko typist |

They even used a picture of a Chilean special forces member descending from chute that went viral when one roforofo blog said it was the COAS . The whole thing to me is like a politician doing PR during elections campaign for a second term. abi is someone indirectly canvassing for tenure elongation? E. b. things Lol, this has happened because the media reported that Buhari said "service chiefs' best is not good enough". I read the story in the papers how Buhari scolded the service chiefs,,,, meanwhile they have done well,,, all of them... Anyone in government knows that a lot has been achieved and many improvements are ongoing... It woukd take at least another 8years to completely upgrade the Nigerian army, Navy and Air Force.... it is a gradual process, regardless of what bad mouths people are saying. http://saharareporters.com/2014/08/31/australian-negotiator-insists-modu-sheriff-ihejirika-sponsor-boko-haram-exonerates-buhari
To me it makes sense! There must have been high level treason when BH began gaining strength. Why would Davis lie in this case? Smh. In the early stages of boko haram, Ali Modu Sheriff used them to win election,,, like many other govs including Peter Odili. But that Boko haram later grew and metamorphosed into a bigger force that started fighting Nigeria. So, the early boko haram that was used to rig election was different from the ones that starting fighting Nigeria... same happened with Peter Odili's election armed thugs who later became militants and grew in strength and weaponry. Gen. Ihejirika did not sponsor Boko Haram. His appointment as army chief caused some resentment .... and the way he fought them raised serious concerns in the north,,, |

dragon2: That is why service chiefs should be properly rotated out, after serving their term. The longer they stay the more politicised the forces become, even if they(the service chiefs) didn't intend it. Sometimes, we should understand that people in government know better and have more info/advise than we ever will. I support the retention of the Service Chiefs because the immediate past provides evidence against sacking wartime chiefs. The greatest error of Goodluck Jonathan was removing Gen. Ihejirika..... and this is a fact. Ihehirika pummelled boko haram so badly that northerners were shouting. Under him, boko haram remained caged and they stood no chance. This fact is well known in the army. Immediately Gen. Ihehirika was removed and replaced with Gen. Minimah,,,, and ACM Alex Badeh replaced Adm. Ola Ibrahim as CDS, the war went down... and spiralled out of control that boko haram started holding territories,,,, and soldiers started fleeing ..... something that never happened under Ihejirika. When you sack Gen. Buratai and AVM Sadiq Abubakar,,, the new service chiefs would need at least 3 months to set-up and consolidate their machinery.... that is 3months of refresh for boko haram,,, as happened with Gen. Minimah. And we take the war back to square 2. Please understand that govt is govt and they know more than you ever will .... Please, changing service chiefs now does not help you. It does not affect you.... Nigeria needs them to remain there for now...President Buhari is not stupid |
