Tobiloba2407: Demanding people do the right thing, isn't looking for trouble, regardless of what the majority might overlook.
No no no,,, you are a trouble maker. You can't demand people to do the right thing when you don't do it yourself. Besides, even if you demand, you should not force them to do it.
You are just an unpleasant fellow. A big trouble maker. Shift abeg.
bidexiii: Very interesting And the write up his very practical but the only thing his I doubt if Nigeria would go into war with any enemy with such capabilities to hit Nigeria with surgical strikes in the early days or times of the war. And none of our neighbors has such capabilities now but that his not withstanding that we should up our game.
bidexiii: Gallant troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized armed bandits who infiltrated Dogon Ruwa, Ungwar Bera and Zamfarawan villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State on 6 August 2020. Many rustled cattle were also recovered. Details later.
Good one. I think the DHQ stingyness with info is because of the many ambushes troops have suffered lately. Am not sure though.
youghs: This has always been my fear all this while, bokoharam spreading across Nigeria would be very devastating
I disagree. Nigeria is too big for boko haram or any terrorist group. They can shine in one state like Borno or a group of states,,,, but spreading across Nigeria is spreading thinner and thinner, and they would be crushed faster. For Nigeria as a whole,,,, no way....
I salute the Nigerian armed forces truly, despite all the challenges. The crisis we have endured could have overwhelmed many African countries. That is the only reason I criticize modestly.
Tobiloba2407: As you no wan learn, you know the right thing, you say nah rubbish sweet you to dey do.!!
@bidexiii cannot give you credit because you did not snap the pics yourself. Those pics are owned by Damen. Hence you cannot lay claim to pics that you took from the company's website. You did not snap yourself,,,, and you did not credit the company on your twitter page.
So, you are guilty of the crime you accuse @bidexii of. It is important that someone exposes your folly, so that we can enjoy more pics on this thread.
GENERAL UPDATE ON ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA OPERATIONS FROM 24 JULY TO 6 AUGUST 2020 1. In line with our resolve to keep the general public duly informed of the operations of the Nigerian military and other security agencies, I will be briefing you this afternoon accordingly. It will cover 24 July to 6 August 2020.
NORTH-WEST ZONE 2. The Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued the aggressive clearance operations in the entire North-West zone of the country. Within the period under review, troops in the Joint Operations Area scaled-up kinetic and non-kinetic operations in the general areas of Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto and adjoining states leading to gradual restoration of overall human activities in the zone. Recall that the activities of armed bandits, cattle rustlers and kidnappers and other sundry crimes hitherto made life unbearable for locals in the afore-mentioned areas. However, through the concerted efforts of Operations HADARIN DAJI, KATSINA, ACCORD and SAHEL SANITY, farmers have returned to their farms while other economic activities are gradually picking up across the zone.
3. Additionally, within the period under review, troops continued to dominate the general area with clearance patrols, aggressive fighting patrols, raids, ambushes and confidence-building patrols. This is additional to several air bombardments of identified bandits’ locations and hideouts, which has made it possible for the conduct of farming and other activities in the zone. These operations also resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims, recovery of rustled livestock, arrest of suspected armed bandits informants and collaborators in addition to the recoveries of large cache of arms and ammunition, among others within the period.
SOUTH-SOUTH ZONE 4. Troops of Operation DELTA SAFE have intensified the fight against crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism and illegal oil bunkering in the region with attendant successes. Within the period under review, Operation DELTA SAFE discovered and deactivated 25 illegal refining sites in Rivers, Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom States. Also, a total of 342, 000, 00 litres of product suspected to be illegally refined AGO were impounded. Subsidiary operations CALM WATERS II and SWIFT RESPONSE have continued to record remarkable successes. The successes recorded within the period include seizure of 141 x 50 kg bags of foreign parboiled rice as well as arrest of boats involved in smuggling activities amongst others.
5. As part of non kinetic activities, Nigerian Navy Ship DELTA led a peace and reconciliation meeting with the stakeholders of Gbaramatu Kingdom of Warri South LGA of Delta State. The peace meeting was held following recent threats to disrupt oil and gas infrastructure by the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom. Accordingly, the Naval Base summoned a meeting with the key actors in the agitation. The activists thanked the military for the timely intervention and promised to tow the path of peace. The meeting was fruitful as they promised to do all within their reach to forestall violence in the area. They also solicited for the cooperation of the military in providing security to the general area.
NORTH EAST ZONE 6. Armed Forces of Nigeria have continued to sustain the tempo in the fight against terrorism in the North East region of the Country. Between 23 July and 5 August 2020, own troops executed various kinetic operations, including clearance operations, aggressive patrols and Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance missions, sustained air offensive operations as well as artillery and aerial bombardments on BHT/ISWAP enclaves. As we engage in our kinetic operations, we also consider non-kinetic engagements in various quarters of the North East. Some of our non-kinetic operations involve humanitarian operations, which Operation SAFE CORRIDOR stands for.
7. Operation SAFE CORRIDOR is a Defence Headquarters led non-kinetic multi-agency humanitarian operation established by the presidency, designed to De-radicalize, Rehabilitate and Reintegrated willingly surrendered and repentant Boko Haram combatants. In addition to the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other Law Enforcement and Security Agencies, 12 other Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies including NEDC as well as local and international NGOs collaborate and support the Operation. The Operation is guided by extant provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended) and International Humanitarian and Human Right Laws. It may be recalled that, in one of our weekly press briefings, in which members of the Advisory Committee of the Operation were present, we briefed on the purpose and aim for which Operation SAFE CORRIDOR was established. We also explained the processes involved in the De-radicalization, Rehabilitation and Re-integration (DRR) programme.
8. It is highly desirable at this moment, to further explain some key points about De-radicalization, Rehabilitation and Re-integration (DRR) programme in order to allay the fears of some members of the general public and reassure that, these individuals were duly profiled and confirmed to be; low risk and not low risk repentants, who were ascertained to be innocent and forcefully conscripted to join the sects and are categorized as victims. Additionally, monitoring mechanisms have been put in place to monitor their activities in the society.
NORTH-CENTRAL ZONE 9. In the North-Central zone, troops conducted Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activities in addition to concerted Reconciliation and Conciliation efforts in the form of stakeholders’ meetings amongst the various ethnic groups in the zone. These non-kinetic efforts were supported by ongoing kinetic operations in the form of ambushes, raids, and clearance patrols at various locations which resulted in appreciable successes within the period under review. Notably, between 30 July and 1 August 2020, Headquarters Operation SAFE HAVEN commenced the survey for the drilling of boreholes at Shimlang community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau state and equally commissioned 2 other solar powered boreholes at Messiah College and Gana Ropp communities in Barkin Ladi LGA of Plateau State.
10. Furthermore, between 1 and 4 August 2020, Headquarters of Operation SAFE HAVEN, as part of Reconciliation and Conciliation efforts, fostered several stakeholders meeting within the period under review. Areas covered in this regard include communities in Sanga and Jama’a Local Government Areas of Kaduna State, Barkin Ladi and Bassa Local Government Areas of Plateau State. Meetings were also held at Headquarters of Sectors 3 and 4 of Operation SAFE HAVEN. All meetings were held with the leaders of the various ethnic groups including Hausa, Fulani and Berom amongst others. Issues discussed centred on habitual and peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic groups. Similarly, Headquarters Operation WHIRL STROKE held peace-meetings in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State between the Ardo of the Fulani community and the Tiv leaders in the general area. Discussions centred on peaceful coexistence among them.
11. Relatedly for the period, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN also conducted a drug raid operation on 4 August 2020. Accordingly, troops in conjunction with police operatives and vigilante conducted drug raid to Unguwar Mata and New Market General Area in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State following credible intelligence on the activities of drug peddlers in the general area. Troops arrested 7 suspects at the scene and recovered large quantity of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and other illicit drugs. The suspects were subsequently handed over to police for further action.
12. The Military High Command commends all the gallant troops of the Armed Forces and personnel of other security agencies involved in various operations across the country for their commitment and professionalism. Troops are further encouraged to remain resolute and decisive in curtailing the activities of terrorists, armed bandits and other criminals. The High Command of the Armed Forces also reassures the general public of its commitment to securing the country for all human activities to strive. Members of the general public are, as always, enjoined to continue providing timely information on the activities of criminals in their various localities to the nearest military and other security agencies location for prompt and effective action. Thank you.
JOHN ENENCHE Major General Coordinator Defence Media Operations Defence Headquarters 6 August 2020
Whyem15: Looking at headlines on a US intelligence that ISIS and Al qaeda are infiltrating northwest and southern Nigeria and people's general reactions to it and all I saw was a very intelligent attempt at causing panic and uproar in the country. Look at how they carefully substituted ISWAP and Bokoharam for ISIS and AL qaeda to make it seem as if new terrorists groups are coming into the country. Then they decided that the public media is the best place to share their intell. One wonders what government channels are for or what they seek to achieve with that. The way these people use media to control the mind of the people is mind blowing. During the early days of Covid 19 in Iran, western media kept on showing us how useless and corrupt the Iranian regime is because the country's parliament speaker died due to the virus yet when the British prime Minister was in ICU and on life support for the same illness, not a single word of criticism was uttered against the British government. These terrorists are finding it incredibly hard to operate in large numbers outside of their stronghold in Northern borno yet we are expected to believe that they are planning on invading southern Nigeria. Our own intelligence reports is also showing growing ISIS/AL qaeda influence in not only Chad, Cameroon and Niger that they have strong military presence, but also in their own countries as we have several terrorist cells in France. They will never publish useful Intel like sponsors of bht and ISIS in the public space.
Odunayaw: I agree with you. A brand new frigate or frigates is not coming soon. A good competitive tender and we can give this ship a fighters robe for significantly less than the $250m quotation bandied about.
AnanseK: I’m sure the killer is a Southerner, most probably from the SE. They enjoy killing Northerners in such a cowardly manner since the times of Chukwuma Nzeugwu and Emmanuel Ifeajuna.
I can see the cover up forming even from here on NL. The Nyamiri kinsmen are already blaming the victim.
Guy, no one enjoys killing northerners. Your post is inciting and can cause ethnic retaliation.
Lalasticlala OAM4J (inciting against a tribe ,,, rule 2 broken).
komekn: Are you suggesting that on the basis of a video in an air show you will make a deduction on the capacity, reliability and superiority by visual alone.
Thats shocking.
I could get a Innoson G80 ( Chinese assembled BAIC BJ80 ) pitch it against a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon AMG 63 and visually you may not notice the difference that much. But i can assure if you drive them they are world apart.
My view is simplistic if nobody else has bought this aircraft apart from Mynmar, it tells us something. Then you consider that Pakistan does not have a long standing quality manufacturing and or technological base to underpin its production of this aircraft.
Would any of you buy a Pakistani made brand new car even if it was dirt cheap, there will still be a debate id rather have a 3/4 year proven established brand.
But that's the other problem, it is not dirt cheap, for what it is , it is way TOO EXPENSIVE.
In reality our long term strategic planning has been very weak we are waking up when the ships already set sail. These are things that should have done decades ago. We are probably down to a dozen operational fighter aircraft, and as a result the NAF lacks capacity to meet current threats forget about future projected ones.
My other issue is we are not the Gambia we have neighbors amassing weaponry at an exponential rate like Egypt, Algeria and we are looking at them like we are not bothered.
So which jet do you suggest we buy. A single engine jet, please suggest an alternative, not just criticism.
Note that was a Block 1 JF-17 which compared well with the F16. Ours is Block 2 which might just be at par with the F-16 falcon. So its a good jet for the money.
komekn: So because China said the BAIC BJ80 is better than the Mercedes- Benz. G-Wagon AMG 63.
You will therefore believe them because the look similar, from shameless copy engineering.
This is an aircraft that has one other customer apart from Nigeria and that's Myanmar.
That in itself should tell you something.
Well, I watched a video comparison of the JF-17 and the F-16 jets,,, and the only thing I was not happy about is the JF -17 Block 1 was slightly underpowered.
I saw this and other commenters said same, the F-16 jet engine had little more thrust, hence F16 was slightly more agile. Even at that, the difference in performance was slight.
That was a Block 1 JF-17 that was used, but ours is a Block 2 JF-17 which may carry a much more powerful engine, to bring at par with F-16. So, the JF-17 Block 2 is a very good jet.
UMAHI, Stop campaigning to be next president. It is too early. These pics are just laying the foundation for you to claim best "working gov" in the SE and smoothe your way for 2023. We are not all stupid.
STOP CAMPAIGNING FOR UMAHI . .
. STOP CAMPAIGNING FOR UMAHI . . . . STOP CAMPAIGNING FOR UMAHI . . . STOP CAMPAIGNING FOR UMAHI . .
Hotice085: The governor will the next president of Nigeria
Don't be ridiculous.,,,, that is what he is driving at by posting these pictures,,, and you have fallen for his tricks.
A good president is not necessarily someone who builds massive projects,,,, that is the job of ministers. A good president must be able to hold the nation together upholding highest principles,,,, and he must be able to project Naija's power within and outside Africa. Unfortunately, Umahi is not that kind of person. Any asslicker cannot rule Nigeria.
Abohboy: More pictures from the interior of the mall
If you are campaigning for Umahi to become president in 2023,,,,,, then you are wasting your time. Post all the pics you like,,,,, 2023 is for SE but not Umahi.... get that in your head.
PortHarcourt1st: "IGBO ARE THE MAKERS OF MODERN NIGERIA" -- PROF TEKENA TAMUNO
Preamble
I always insist that the greatest merit for Igbos in recent times is not simply the advent of the internet on the surface. It is the social media aspect of the internet which now allows independent thinkers to challenge the lies of history. In Nigeria, our little corner of the world, through social media presentations, scholars are now debunking the false stories perpetuated by the Yoruba press (with the help of the north who have always been paranoid about Igbos).
The Yorubas took advantage of their civil war take-over of the press to rewrite the history of Nigeria as it favours them..., and if you believe them, "every post independence success in Nigeria was Awolowo influenced", and every problem in Nigeria was "instigated by Azikiwe, Ojukwu and the Igbos!". "The truth is reluctantly coming out" and Igbos are gradually being vindicated!!!
Read this masterpiece below by late Professor Tekena Tamuno. By the way, he's not an Igbo man!
"IGBO ARE THE MAKERS OF MODERN NIGERIA" -- PROF TEKENA TAMUNO
Fact, not twisted stories to misinform and mislead.
The problem with writing skewered history is that it equally misinforms its target: Kayode Esho was a great jurist, but Akunne Oputa was the "Socrates" of the Supreme court. Enahoro was a young editor, but Azikiwe made him that young editor with Osita Agwuna as his assistant, at his paper, the Southern Nigerian Defender in Ibadan, where my own father incidentally started as a rookie before shortly abandoning journalism for the stable berth of the civil service. The myth of Awolowo as building the first this and that does not match the documented economic history of the period.
Between 1954 and 1964, Eastern Nigeria was described as "the fastest growing economy in the world," by the Harvard Review; faster than China, faster than Singapore, and all the so-called "Asian Tigers." Awolowo is often credited with "free education".
But no one yet has pointed out any surviving school buildings of the period built by Awo. But all over the East there were quality schools built by the various communities using the Town Development Unions from 1954, and acessing the matching grants of the Eastern Nigeria Development Corporation. And this was the East with the poorest revenue resources of any of the regions. The Mbaise secondary school exists, the National High School Okigwe exists, the Ngwa High school exists, the Enyiogugu Grammar School exists, etc. These were solid schools built all over the East with matching goverment grants. But where are the buildings of the Modern schools in Western Nigeria? They do not exist. They were makeshift.
The Catholic church forced the Azikiwe government from its scholarship program, but it is also on record, that the Eastern government was the only government in the world that invested 45% of its revenues in education. The East had the highest number of schools; the highest school enrollment; the broadest penetration of medical services; and the best modern road network in west Africa.
Indeed if we look carefully, the only public hospitals and most of the schools still standing in the East today, at various stages of run down are the schools and hospitals built by Azikiwe/Okpara. Every division of the East had a Joint Hospital as part of the Eastern Medical services. So it is often claimed Awo built the first television station; the first sky scraper, and the first Sports stadium, the liberty stadium in Ibadan. Well, these are prestige or white elephant investments.
First, the Eastern Outlook, the government paper of Eastern Nigeria was the first newspaper established by any government in Nigeria, and it was of such quality and impact that the literacy level of Easterners, and the depth of public information retailed by Outlook was without compare. This is besides the fact that Western Nigerian Broadcast Services, WNBS-TV founded in 1958 only preceded the ENBC-TV founded in 1959, by only seven months. But Outlook preceded Sketch by about 15 years.
Now Azikiwe built the Onitsha Modern market, the first modern mall or trade emporium in West Africa. Onitsha was effectively Dubai before Dubai. People traveled all over Africa, from as far as the Congo and Sudan and Egypt, to come and buy and trade in Onitsha. The economic impact of this was humonguos. So, give me the vast Onitsha modern market over Cocoa House in Ibadan. Azikiwe built the first Nigerian University at Nsukka with the first School of Law, the first School of Engineering, the first Business School; the first school of journalism, and the first school of music and performance, etc. By the time its first graduates took the Nigerian civil service exams in 1963, everybody began to raise the cry of "Igbo domination" starting with Akintola and Ayo Rosiji. Give me UNN over Liberty stadium.
Azikiwe began the first modern library system in West Africa. The East had a system of city libraries starting with the very modern Ziks Library in Enugu. I Literally grew up in the Umuahia Divisional Library. These libraries were built all over the East. Schools in the East were built with libraries. Moreover the Eastern Nigerian Library Board had a sysem of rural amd mobile libraries. There was nothing like it anywhere else in Nigeria: kids having library cards and able to borrow or order books from the public library. Give me the the first library over the first TV. I do not by this mean that Awolowo did not make his contributions, but the regular skewering of the facts, and angling of contemporary national narratives often makes it seem these days like the greatest contributor to the founding of Nigeria and its development is Awolowo and the Yoruba, when the actual facts speak differently.
The great Ibadan historian, Tekena Tamuno, was unambiguous in stating once at NIPPS, Jos, that "the Igbos are the makers of moderm Nigeria. When they abandoned their project, Nigeria collapsed." We must remind Nigerians, particularly Igbo children, daily of these fact, to achieve what Achebe called " a balance of stories." And that also means we must read beyond the surface of things. Babarinsa's Guardian essay is angled carefully to maintain a revisionist narrative. And that is to be always challenged, however innocent it might seem.
Even today, most Yoruba think that Awolowo founded the Universities of Ibadan and Lagos. No one has reminded them that it took Azikiwe's pressures for a university for Nigeria, in his meeting with Arthur Richards in 1946, that led to the cobstitution of the Eliot commision and subsequently the founding of the University College, Ibadan. This fact is even clearly conveyed in Michael Crowder's eponymous book, The Story of Nigeria. Nsukka was Azikiwe's critique of what he felt to be the conceptual limitations of Ibadan. The University of Lagos was the result of NCNC's ideological contributions to the federal policy during the ill fated coalition government with the NPC. UNILAG was an NCNC project, shepherded by Aja Wachukwu as minister for education. Even the great UNILAG in her 50th anniversary failed to mention Prof Eni Njoku as the pioneer Vice Chancellor of the university, a man that layed the solid foundation of what made Unilag what it is today.
These facts must be made known and put as forcefully accross as possible, without any bias towards our Yoruba Brothers, who equally have contributed immeasurably.
Again, until the lion tells his own story, the story of the hunt will belong to the hunter.
Tekena Nitonye Tamuno was a Nigerian historian and Vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan. He was the President of the Board of Trustees of Bells University of Technology. He was born on 28 January 1932, Okrika, Rivers State and died 11 April 2015.
joshjc: that's not what I mean, what I'm saying is we can't become a great nation by copying other people's culture,we can copy their technology not culture
You need not teach children with Iron/Zinc deficiency they would need IQ upgrade or surgical procedure.
