The Course is a nice course. I knew someone that was successful in that discipline. He even bagged Phd in it. Do research about the course, if you don't like it, go get a Jamb form and prepare for the next exam.

First you say, "The course is a nice course." Then you said; "I knew someone that was successful in that discipline." then again; "He bagged a Phd in it."
With these premises, aren't you practically telling the OP; accept it, you will be successful, you can even bag a PhD.

So, was my assumption that you were encouraging him to accept the course from your premises wrong? No.
Now you can stop mentioning me.

Exactly, I also feel unilorin deserves a better spot but the criteria of ranking doesn't cover that. I better way of ranking should be evaluated. Let's wait for 4icu ranking.

4icu is only based on website popularity. How frequent people visit institutions' website.
Times Higher Education is more detailed in ranking, they consider; Teacher - Student ratio, international community, research output amongst others. THE ranking is more holistic in it's ranking and they consider the programmes being offered by the institutions.
Education / Re: 89% of Nigerian Universities Fail to Make Top 5,000 in the World - Webometrics by Fifthwave(f): 8:26am On Jan 28, 2018
If our universities are to compete globally, here are my suggestions.

1. Privatise all federal and state Universities, then leave only 6 Federal Universities in all geopolitical zones to remain funded. These 6 government funded universities should include:
SW: University of Ibadan
SE: University of Nigeria, Nsukka
SS: University of Porthacourt
NE: University of Maiduguri
NW: Ahmadu Bello University
NC: University of Abuja
Entrance into these FG funded universities should be merit based with fees highly subsidised.

2. Open an accessible Student loan under the Ministry of Education to help fund students in the now inflated tuition rates in the newly privatised universities.

3. Primary and secondary schools should receive more funding. Which is where the foundation lies. Technical Education should be set up and funded to reduce the population seeking admission into university education.

4. Universities should focus on problem solving, high-brow R&grin which would attract funding from industry and alumni.

With these, our universities would be highly competitive, with a more stable academic calendar, and would attract an international community which also is an index of ranking by Times Higher Education.

This is just a thought, there could be better ways we can handle our falling standard of Education. But believe me, with the current trajectory of Education in Nigeria, it is the Privately owned universities that are competing favourably with universities around the would.

It is time we take Education away from the government.

It is idolatry. (Galatians 5:19-21) All unrighteousness is a sin. (1 John 5:17) It is unnatural to desire a doll (an idol). (Jude 1:7) God will judge the sexually immoral... (Hebrews 13:4)

I think you have a problem. The problem is, you don't comprehend. Could you please, go back to page first quoted me, "I told the OP to do research about about the course, if he isn't satisfied he should get another Jamb form and prepare for the exam". You skipped that part, just to score cheap point. Don't tell me you are an undergraduate or a graduate, because you don't even portray to be one.

Score cheap points? To fetch me money or what?

I see you portray all the features of an undergraduate, graduate, and "over graduate" put together. If your advice is that he go do research on the course, doesn't it pass a message that you're ignorant of the prospects of the course?

I repeat, why would anyone advise someone whose plan was to study Medicine to accept Animal Science?
How are they related?

(Do you see who lack comprehension now?)

Mr man, he bagged a PhD, he is a consultant, a former permanent secretary of ministry of Agriculture in one of the southwest state and Lastly, he is a rich man.
Don't think people that studied that course are poor or unsuccessful.

And you think everyone's career path will follow the same trajectory?
Especially someone who's original intent was to study Medicine.

Please how does Animal Science and Med & Surgery relate? From Medical Sciences to Agriculture. Does this show focus?

Some Nairalanders are just wicked in giving advice.

Why do people resort to spewing trash at any slightest opportunity? It is either you're depressed or something.
Meaning the PhDs, Emeritus and professors in that field are all useless?
Please which part of the aves planet are you from? Khristal87 had just broaden your tetanus filled brain on the broad view of the profession.
If you have any knowledge of the University system, you should have at lest advised him to take up the course, study and work harder during the first year, get a good cgpa and then transfer to any course of his choice.
Thought ignorance is a bliss. Alas! I was wrong. Really pathetic.
Even the course itself is a professional course and has better employment opportunities than your useless analysis.
Better read wide and stop wallowing in a self delusion.

You just ended up rambling and also displaying your ignorance to the public. How many percent of student who attempt a change of course to Medicine after 100l succeed even with high CGPAs?
And how sure are you that the OP will obtain the said high GPA after 100l?

bring the most influential doctor and bring the most influential farmer and tell me who is richer, a fishpond of 50000 fishes can give you 1m monthly, a poultry house of 12thousand birds can give you 1m monthly, the capital is just the problem, if you study agric, you will understand what I mean, a start up capital of 5m can give you 2m in a year In my school, the richest undergraduate is arguably from animal sc, he has 2fishfarms and two snailery. Agric is not a bad course, you hardly find an agriculturist looking for job. They know how to make the cash.

Ignorance (or even being myopic) makes you limit your career progression to the Nigerian scenario. Tell me a profession you can place side by side a Medical Doctor, Surgeon etc in the US or UK.

The deviation is much, from MBBS to Animal Science? My dear, what you read matters, don't allow those that has made mistakes in their career deceive you into reading course you will be carrying certificate up and down, even when there is employment, they can't employ you because your field is not there. Sit down and write write another jamb or you can pick up the course while you write Jamb again, but I tell you Animal science is obsolete and outdated course. No vacancies for them, unless you have it in mind to work in the bank that doesn't care about course of study. Good luck.

I couldn't agree more.

ACCEPT IT, READ HARD, GET FIRST CLASS AND BE RETAINED AS A LECTURER. Sadly that's HOW IT WORKS IN THIS COUNTRY.

Even people with 3.5 CGPAs are being retained as lecturers now in UNN. First class are NOT always retained now.

You should accept the course and then focus on getting a high GP, so that you could be able to change to your desired course. Don't hid the advice of not accepting it. Staying at home may not produce a positive effect .

A high GPA in 100l does not guarantee you a change of course.

I graduated from unn, two things are involved, its either you accept it with a mind set that you would do well in your 100 level, get a good grade and high cgp so u can easily switch to your dream course or you ignore and write jamb again...your choice.

How many percentage of people who do change of course to a course like medicine, pharmacy, law succeed?

You guys should stop deceiving yourselves. Besides, change of course form now cost N50,000. Something which is a game of chance.

In 2018, most people in Nigeria spend their days riding giraffes and hunting lions. They have no concept of money, time and culture. Hell, yesterday, when I heard an aircraft pass overhead, I thought it was the gods keeping watch over me.

All hail King Julien.

Academic adviser. I studied in UNN, Animal Science is a huge trash of a course to undertake in the University. Argue with your touchscreen keyboard display.

So you would advise someone whose plan was to study Medicine to take Animal Science. Out of desperation or what? If it were Anatomy or Physiology, that would be fair enough as he could still proceed with his dream of studying Medicine.

It is sad that in 2018, such courses are still offered in Nigerian Universities. A course like Animal Science have no relevance.

This is pure academic hairsplitting. I wonder what Zoology curriculum entails that it can not be merged with the Animal Science curriculum to give practicable relevance. Please, do not accept such a 'curse', prepare for the next Jamb exams.
