Gaddafithe2nd: The Course is a nice course. I knew someone that was successful in that discipline. He even bagged Phd in it. Do research about the course, if you don't like it, go get a Jamb form and prepare for the next exam. First you say, "The course is a nice course." Then you said; "I knew someone that was successful in that discipline." then again; "He bagged a Phd in it." With these premises, aren't you practically telling the OP; accept it, you will be successful, you can even bag a PhD. So, was my assumption that you were encouraging him to accept the course from your premises wrong? No. Now you can stop mentioning me. |

writerights: Exactly, I also feel unilorin deserves a better spot but the criteria of ranking doesn't cover that. I better way of ranking should be evaluated. Let's wait for 4icu ranking. 4icu is only based on website popularity. How frequent people visit institutions' website. Times Higher Education is more detailed in ranking, they consider; Teacher - Student ratio, international community, research output amongst others. THE ranking is more holistic in it's ranking and they consider the programmes being offered by the institutions. |

If our universities are to compete globally, here are my suggestions. 1. Privatise all federal and state Universities, then leave only 6 Federal Universities in all geopolitical zones to remain funded. These 6 government funded universities should include: SW: University of Ibadan SE: University of Nigeria, Nsukka SS: University of Porthacourt NE: University of Maiduguri NW: Ahmadu Bello University NC: University of Abuja Entrance into these FG funded universities should be merit based with fees highly subsidised. 2. Open an accessible Student loan under the Ministry of Education to help fund students in the now inflated tuition rates in the newly privatised universities. 3. Primary and secondary schools should receive more funding. Which is where the foundation lies. Technical Education should be set up and funded to reduce the population seeking admission into university education. 4. Universities should focus on problem solving, high-brow R& which would attract funding from industry and alumni. With these, our universities would be highly competitive, with a more stable academic calendar, and would attract an international community which also is an index of ranking by Times Higher Education. This is just a thought, there could be better ways we can handle our falling standard of Education. But believe me, with the current trajectory of Education in Nigeria, it is the Privately owned universities that are competing favourably with universities around the would. It is time we take Education away from the government. |

Gaddafithe2nd: I think you have a problem. The problem is, you don't comprehend. Could you please, go back to page first quoted me, "I told the OP to do research about about the course, if he isn't satisfied he should get another Jamb form and prepare for the exam". You skipped that part, just to score cheap point. Don't tell me you are an undergraduate or a graduate, because you don't even portray to be one. Score cheap points? To fetch me money or what? I see you portray all the features of an undergraduate, graduate, and "over graduate" put together. If your advice is that he go do research on the course, doesn't it pass a message that you're ignorant of the prospects of the course? I repeat, why would anyone advise someone whose plan was to study Medicine to accept Animal Science? How are they related? (Do you see who lack comprehension now?) |

Don't think people that studied that course are poor or unsuccessful. And you think everyone's career path will follow the same trajectory? Especially someone who's original intent was to study Medicine. Please how does Animal Science and Med & Surgery relate? From Medical Sciences to Agriculture. Does this show focus? Some Nairalanders are just wicked in giving advice. |

Khristal87 had just broaden your tetanus filled brain on the broad view of the profession. Thought ignorance is a bliss. Alas! I was wrong. Really pathetic. Even the course itself is a professional course and has better employment opportunities than your useless analysis. Better read wide and stop wallowing in a self delusion. You just ended up rambling and also displaying your ignorance to the public. How many percent of student who attempt a change of course to Medicine after 100l succeed even with high CGPAs? And how sure are you that the OP will obtain the said high GPA after 100l? |

dukeprince50: bring the most influential doctor and bring the most influential farmer and tell me who is richer, a fishpond of 50000 fishes can give you 1m monthly, a poultry house of 12thousand birds can give you 1m monthly, the capital is just the problem, if you study agric, you will understand what I mean, a start up capital of 5m can give you 2m in a year In my school, the richest undergraduate is arguably from animal sc, he has 2fishfarms and two snailery. Agric is not a bad course, you hardly find an agriculturist looking for job. They know how to make the cash. Ignorance (or even being myopic) makes you limit your career progression to the Nigerian scenario. Tell me a profession you can place side by side a Medical Doctor, Surgeon etc in the US or UK. |
