Russia's defence ministry, in a statement on Sunday, January 8, said the strike on the buildings in Kramatorsk was a revenge operation for the deadly Ukrainian attack last week on a Russian barracks in Makiivka, in part of the Donetsk region controlled by Moscow's forces, in which at least 89 servicemen were killed.

The statement said Moscow had used what it called reliable intelligence to target the Ukrainian troops. More than 700 Ukrainian troops had been housed in one hostel and more than 600 in another, it said.

"As a result of a massive missile strike on these temporary deployment points of Ukrainian army units, more than 600 Ukrainian servicemen were destroyed," the defence ministry said.

If true, it would be the single largest loss of Ukrainian troops since Russia invaded on Feb. 24 last year.

Ukraine was believed to have stopped housing troops close together in single facilities after a deadly Russian missile strike on a base in western Ukraine in March which killed dozens.

Ukraine has dismissed the statement, calling it lies.

Also a Reuters reporter said on Sunday that the Russian missile attack on the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk missed its targets as there were no obvious signs of casualties.

The Reuters team reportedly visited two college dormitories that Moscow said had been temporarily housing Ukrainian personnel.

But neither dormitory in the eastern city of Kramatorsk appeared to have been directly hit or seriously damaged. There were no obvious signs that soldiers had been living there and no sign of bodies or traces of blood.

Serhiy Cherevatyi, a Ukrainian military spokesperson for the eastern region, described the claim of mass casualties as an attempt by the Russian defence ministry to show it had responded forcefully to Ukraine's recent strikes on Russian soldiers.

"This is an information operation of the Russian defense ministry," Cherevatyi told Ukrainian broadcaster Suspilne News.

The Russian statement named two buildings, the dormitory of a site called College No.47 and a dormitory affiliated with College No.28, both in Kramatorsk.

Photographs by Reuters showed some of the windows broken at the College No.47 dormitory. There was a large crater in the courtyard. The windows of the nearby college had been smashed.

The College No.28 dormitory was entirely intact. A crater lay about 50 metres away from it closer to some garages. Some of the college's windows were smashed.

"It was very loud, it threw people out of their beds. Some people hurt their fingers because of the blast wave," said Polina, 74, a resident who lives across from one of the dormitories.

"There was an explosion, and then another explosion. The windows shook... Really, there's nothing else to tell you. Just a normal day," said Mykhailo, a 41-year-old resident.

Kramatorsk's mayor earlier said there had been no casualties.

As Moscow's invasion of Ukraine grinds towards the one-year mark, Russia's military is under domestic pressure for battlefield successes.

There is this member that has been quoting and tagging my username all over the forum that I have defrauded Nairalanders.

I have requested that he provide the weakest proof of this his allegations on several occasions, till this moment he hasn't come with anything that look like proof to that effect. Rather, he keeps repeating same accusation all over the site and even ascribing some usernames names to me. For him to even provide the fraudulent activities of those usernames, till this moment he hasn't.

My question now, is this how you will allow the site to be a platform for spreading lies and baseless accusations despite the fact you were notified? The other time, he claimed I bullied the mods into deleting the fraudulent links. Now, he said there is a code for deleting threads which he claimed I used. Is this not a lie against the forum? Is there even anything like that?

Young women working on Andrew Tate
It has been claimed that young women who went to work for Andrew Tate in Romania were tattooed with the words "owned by Tate."

The social media influencer, who has risen to notoriety in recent years for his attitude towards women, is alleged to have had some of those working for his online sex business branded.

Tate is currently being held in jail in Romania while police investigate claims he was involved in the rape and human trafficking of women at his luxury villa.

The probe began after a 22-year-old woman told police she was held against her will last year.

Police managed to get Andrew Tate's location thanks to the pizza box he posted to troll climate change activist Greta Thunberg.

On December 29, 2022, police arrested him and his younger brother, Tristan, alongside two assistants.

Police sources told the Times that the woman and other alleged victims were tattooed with the words "owned by Tate".

Authorities in Romania allege the 36-year-old kept six women under "house arrest 24/7 like prisoners" at his compound.

One judicial source previously told the Mail: "The abuse was physical and emotional. They were not allowed to leave the house without security and they were watched day and night."

They added that the women were "deprived of their freedom and followed everywhere".

It is claimed that Tate forced the women to create pornographic content against their will and he kept the proceeds for himself.

Tate was arrested on suspicion of human trafficking, rape and forming an organised crime group.

Officers from the city's anti-organised crime unit searched the property and took both brothers, alongside their assistants, into custody.

A day later a Romanian judge gave police permission to keep Andrew Tate in custody for 30 days while the investigation continues.

Tate has denied all the allegations, with his representative Avocat Vidineac Eugen Constatin saying they would appeal the judge's decision.

In a ruling released on Thursday, Jan. 5, a judge said prosecutors had shown Tate has an "attitude of disregard towards women in general, which he only perceives as a means of obtaining large profits in an easy way".

A sex-starved Buddhist monk had a "serene smile" on his face as he cut off his penis with a kitchen knife in the presence of other temple monks.

Phra Oat was rushed to hospital after hacking through his genitals and covering a temple cubicle in blood.

The 27-year-old shocked his fellow monks when he sliced through his male member in front of them at a temple in Kanchanaburi province in Thailand on January 1.

Rescuers were called by the other monks who yanked the sharp object out of his hands before he could mutilate himself further.

He was rushed to the Makarak Hospital for medical treatment, where medics were able to stitch the organ together as the knife had not completely severed the member.
