clemz85: the wrong thing with who U are is that U do not know that every thing is wrong with who U are.
there is nothing wrong with u as a person but everything is wrong with the lifestyle you choose to live. I'm not even going to go religious on you but if nature designed for homosexuality we'd have only one gender in every specie.

my best friend in the university was a girl and we sometimes got to play games that were a bit risque but she knew better than to tempt me in any cos after all I'm only just a man and there no way I'd be with a hot smoking chick and not get tempted to try. the best way to avoid it is to not put yourself in a situation where you'd be tempted in the first place. in the long run they'll end up screwing each other

One_Naira: So you don't know USA is one of the countries sponsoring Israel in their constant killings and attack against Iran or you weren't aware the US senators mentioned they plan to go to "war" with Iran if isreal goes to war With Iran. Keep up with times my friend.

Let me say it again: Somalia, Iraq, Afghan and now Iran had USA rivals as their friend, pray tell what good did it do or is doing? Advice for Nigerians: get ready for your own liberation. USA has set their eyes on that country, get ready.
been telling my friends the same thing for quite a while now. very soon we will start hearing of how our people are being oppressed and then they'll say we have weapons of mass destruction and chemical weapons and all whatnot just to justify their "liberation". Nigerians wakeup and smell the bullshyt before shyt hits the fans

ShyM-X:
Honestly, I don't know what you're on about... How the heck can you compare 4th generation fighter jets with an aircraft that was mainly built as a trainer aircraft? Alpha jets don't even belong to any generation of aircraft, to be honest... and I see no reason why Nigeria should still be using the aircraft for combat...

It's time for naija to upgrade, if Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia etc. can afford 4th generation fighter jets - Nigeria should also be able to do the same... You lot need to stop wasting the lives of the brave men and women of the Nigerian airmen... Alpha jets are flying coffins! undecided undecided
A lot of politics goes into who gets what and when they get it when it comes to military acquisitions. The Americans and the Brits do not sell modern hardware to us a a means of checkmating our influence on the African continent. And even when we go to other countries like china and Russia the same Americans use their influence to block sales. So please don't come here talking like Nigeria does not want to upgrade her air fleet

What are you talking about?!

Lets take an F/A 18 Hornet for example;

- twin-engine supersonic,
- all-weather carrier-capable multirole fighter jet,
- designed to dogfight and attack ground targets (F/A designation for Fighter/Attack).

General Characteristics, Super Hornet, E and F models

Primary Function: Multi-role attack and fighter aircraft.
Contractor: McDonnell Douglas.

Ferry: 1,660 nautical miles (3,054 kilometers), two AIM-9s, three 480 gallon tanks retained.
Crew: A, C and E models: One
B, D and F models: Two.

Unit Cost: 50 Million USD

General Characteristics, C and D models

Primary Function: Multi-role attack and fighter aircraft.
Contractor: Prime: McDonnell Douglas; Major Subcontractor: Northrop.

Wingspan: 40 feet 5 inches (13.5 meters).
Weight: Maximum Take Off Gross Weight is 51,900 pounds (23,537 kg).
Airspeed: Mach 1.7+.
Ceiling: 50,000+ feet.
Range: Combat: 1,089 nautical miles (1252.4 miles/2,003 km), clean plus two AIM-9s
Ferry: 1,546 nautical miles (1777.9 miles/2,844 km), two AIM-9s plus three 330 gallon tanks.
Crew: A, C and E models: One
B, D and F models: Two
Armament: One M61A1/A2 Vulcan 20mm cannon; AIM 9 Sidewinder, AIM 7 Sparrow, AIM-120 AMRAAM, Harpoon, Harm, SLAM, SLAM-ER, Maverick missiles; Joint Stand-Off Weapon (JSOW); Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM); various general purpose bombs, mines and rockets. See the F/A-18 weapons load-out page.
Unit Cost: 25 Million USD

All this and it still comes with an ejector seat for pilot bail out in case of an emergency.. Meanwhile, an Alpha Jet is a light attack aircraft, isnt supersonic, isnt a multirole aircraft, dosent carry as many or as heavy the amount of weapons load or grade as the above aircrafts, isnt capable of dog fighting, can be easily shot down by stingers and has been de-militarised by many countries around the world today. And this piece of shiit costs between 12 - 15 million Dollars, while the very basic F/A 18 costs 25 million.. would an extra 10 million dollars cripple this nation?! I dont think so.

Here are the specs for an Alpha Jet;

Type: Alpha Jet A
Function: trainer / strike
Year: 1977
Engines: 2 * 1350 kg SNECMA/Turbomeca Lazrac O4-C5
Wing Span: 9.11 m
Length: 13.23 m
Height: 4.33 m
Wing Area: 17.50 m2
Empty Weight: 3515 kg
Max.Weight: 8000 kg
Speed: Mach 0.86
Ceiling: 15000 m
Range: 2780 km
Speed: Mach 0.86
Armament: 1*g27 mm 2500 kg
Unit cost: 12 - 15 million USD

So speaking of functionality, can you tell me please how an Alpha Jet can possibly out perform an F/A-18 Hornet or even an F-15 Eagle.

Alpha Jet = Relic

I thought we now had some decent MIGS in our arsenal..
Copying and pasting from wikipedia would not still change the fact that some of those jets you mention above are proprietary military hardware that cannot and will not be sold to other countries. The international arms market is controlled and monitored strictly. People always come online to bash nigeria in everything. The government wants the best for her military but can only acquire the best of what the producing nations are willing to sell or transfer to other countries.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Military Jet Crashes In Niger Republic by firetrap(m): 7:48am On May 07, 2013
slim fit :
All modern jet fighter planes have ejector seats its either the jet was short down or the pilots wasn't trained on how to pull ejector seat. Nigerian military don't know that war have change its not personnel that win wars now its gadgets. You can deploy the whole Nigeria to go and fight if you don't have a strong tool you are finished. Even America are struggling with there hard weapons that is second to non in then to fight bin laden Nigerian military
How will a pilot who has been trained to fly a jet worth millions of dollars not be trained to pull a simple lever. Please we do not know the circumstances surrounding why they did not eject but assuming that they were not trained to do so is calling their intelligence and that of their instructors into question.

According to the press release, it crashed in Niger during Mali operations

RIP

anyone know their names?>

Why don't they ever release names/pictures of men that die on duty for this country?
if you had read my other comments before posting you'd know that there was never a time I said they were shot down in Nigeria

icebeatz: shut up my friend.
Anti-aircraft guns or surface to air missiles (SAMs) can be detected by radar.
Don't wanna go into long details but just know dat u made an ignorant post.
please I'd like you to go into details and tell me how and when anti aircraft guns became surface to air missiles. please read well before displaying your ignorance for the world to see. Google is your friend, use it.
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Military Jet Crashes In Niger Republic by firetrap(m): 10:50pm On May 06, 2013
manmustwac: So old they don't even have ejector seats
Ejector seats were made an industry standard as early as the 60s so those jets do come with ejector seats. The jet in question was suspected to have been shot down by anti aircraft guns and not ground to air missiles. Anti aircraft artillery does not show up on radar like missiles do so dey may not have known that they were fire upon.

R.I.P to the brave servicemen...

But truth be told, alpha jets are obsolete and we need to start using them as trainer jets... undecided
Yes the alpha jets are old, but it does not mean that they are not well maintained. If age determined how well military hardware should function then half the American naval and air force fleet would have been grounded or retired from service

A "nigerian" fighter jet crashes and some simpletons have already started mentioning civil war era plane, no fuel etc...but just some days back a u.s military cargo plane pratically fell from the sky like a paper kite in afganistan, no stupid comments then o! Ignorancai!!
I tire ooh. People just like seeing only the negative in anything Nigerian

Nwa_Nimo: Shot down by Boko Haram?

Some nice publicity for the militants - when i'm sure the plane just ran out of fuel.
The plane didn't run out of fuel. Its suspected to have been shot down by BH. During the Baga offensive the security forces made some startling discovery that the BH animals were in possession of AA (anti aircraft) guns

Mgbadike80: How old is the jet? Another relic from the civil war era?
Those civil war relics as u call them were recently upgraded and up gunned by the air force and are in excellent conditions

PoliticsRe: Boko Haram Suspected To Have Shot Down Nigerian Air force Jet In Niger by firetrap(op): 10:02pm On May 06, 2013
misterh: Since they are said to have anti-aircraft guns, this might link them to the crash. If it has come to the level of shooting down jets, we need to deal a very decisive and final blow on them. Those birds cost lots of money.
The said aircrafts were recently upgraded by the air force. Here's a pic

50calibre: There are different classes of society, the poor, the average ( or middle class) and the rich, yet not everyone classed as average are the same. An average family can still be richer than another average family that is to say there are other sub-classes in the class "Average" e.g Second class upper and second class lower.

So when I use two adjectives together, I'm only trying to be specific and pin point those who are borderline average ( they can afford comfort but not luxury ).

Next time don't try to correct someone above you
small boy, wealth is relative. meaning what may be considered as wealth in one locale may be seen as poverty in other climes. don't presume to know everything. if you were really above us all you'd be smart enough to know that even sociologist can not fully understand the workings of society
