druid06: The IWI US TSIDF16 Tavor SAR Bullpup Rifle is accurate but one thing people on NL should not forget that this assualt rifle is very expensive. I see some short coming with this rifle, it is shorter in length than your normal rifle therefore making it hard to hold. The little budget that goes to the Nigerian military should not all be spent on expensives ammo. For me I would go with the standard issue M16 assual rifles the official assual riffle for the U.S Marine. This rifle is fairly accurate, it can be switched to semi-automatic or full round fire. The picture below is the different variation of M16. You can see it instills fear in peoples mind. If them BOKO boys see them our army boys carry this rifle their with humvee mounted with M2 .50 caliber machine as depicted below. Them go surrender kon give their life to Christ.

Its a bullpup rifle. This means that the action group or mechanism is behind the trigger group unlike conventional rifles whose action group is in front of the trigger mechanism. Oga Henry, I beg to differ. They are all carrying the CTAR. You can tell which variant it is by the number of air vents on the barrel.

Standard tar= 6 vents

CTAR= 4 vents

MTAR= 2 vents

STAR (sniper variant) = 4 vents but can be distinguished from the CTAR by its bipod stands and longer barrel and optics

ocelot2006: Correction though. It is the IMI Tavor TAR-21 assault rifle ('though SSS close protection details, Navy SBS teams, and NAF Quick Reaction Force use the shorter MTAR-21 rifle).

And the Uzi is not in the same class as this rifle. The former is a submachine gun while the later is a burl-pup combat assault rifle that chambers tge much larger 5.56 NATO rounds.

naptu2: There are a variety of weapons in the Nigerian Armed Forces arsenal. However, the AK47 and FN FAL are used by most of the troops because they are mass produced at DICON Kaduna. The troops hate the FN FAL (I think that's because it jams a lot) and prefer the AK47.

The government would have preferred the M16, but the Americans did not give us the license to produce them. The Russians and Belgians gave us licenses to produce the AK and FN FAL.

You are granted license to produce a weapon only after you have bought a considerable amount (thousands) of the said weapons from the manufacturers. We did not purchase more than a couple of hundreds of the m16 so therefore no license was granted us

The G36 is a very uncommon weapon in Nigeria. I've seen the P90 a few times and have also seen a saiga12 in the hands of a mopol officer in uyo last year

The navy also use tavor-21's
The airforce quick response group QRG(special forces) also use them too.

Thats a general purpose machine gun "gpmg" and we have 100s of thousands of them and what we are fighting is not desert warfare but an urban guerrilla warfare and such heavy weaponry is not suitable for the task. The so called 30 old aks are still operational and for your information there may not be any ak that is 30 years or older that may still be in service with our security forces. Even gun self get expiry date.

The nigerian navy special boat service are also issued the said weapon so also the Nigerian air force ground attack troops and not just the sss as u put it. The SSS also issue the fn2000 to its personnel also. And to correct a common misconception the version of the tavor mostly used by Nigerian forces is the CTAR 21 and not TAR 21
