tesppidd: Am surprised you didn't see/talk about where the guy used his right hand to push Pique off for about 5 seconds.
You didn't see it? Usually, most strikers try to bully-off defenders to make way, especially when trying to complete a dribble or take a run. It depends on the type of striker though. The guy almost succeeded and that was why Pique reacted. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by FirstbornWds: 12:54pm On Oct 21, 2020 |
tesppidd: This thing is so simple.
There was a tussle; of course Pique wasn't supposed to escort him to score.
*Could anybody tell me the guy didn't take his shot before he went down?
*How logical is it that the attacker was on his feet long about to even get his shot off, and then conclude that a goal bound move was stopped deemed worthy of a red card?
The guy definitely held off Pique and took his shot and missed before he went down.
No ref would have given such penalty of it was Messi at the other end subjected to the same defensive move.
No one is talking about it simply because we won 5-1.
If they had beaten us 1-0 most of you would be watching that replay again and again.
But that wasn't even a yellow card. There was a tussle and Pique clearly held the guy shirt for a while and it's justifiable if he had a yellow card instead of the red one. More so, he was the last man. The red card is harsh, yes. But it was a foul anyways. |

You idiots that refused to obey the curfew last night are the cause of these.
Else, the armed forces would have been able to restore order. But now, it's difficult to tell innocent people from hoodlums because you refused to leave the streets. They're confused and don't know how to identify thugs from innocent civilians.
Just shut up and stay in your house. The Curfew was supposed to happen by 9pm, while the massacre happened 4hrs before then... |

joviegghead: I'll totally understand you trying to downplay Messi's influence in barca's success. You said Messi's performances with argentina proved his over reliance on the midfield trio during Pep's era. How about his performances after that?
See bro, the midfield was important, but Messi was the man. He wasn't just the cherry on top of the cake, he was the X factor. He practically made the job of the midfield and attackers look easier.
The midfield trio thrived with Spain not because they were superhunans , but because Spain was bursting with talents. The Spanish midfield had xabi alonso and others who made things happen with or without them. Simply put, the Spanish team was complete from attack to defense. Dude made it seem like Pep was in charge of the National team at that time. |

IKON360: Well you have point, because the midfield without Messi won the world cup and two Euros. And Messi without that midfield hasn't won an international trophy. Even though these were awesome players. But I still think that Messi was instrumental in taking that midfield to the next level of excellence. If you watched some of Spain's matches in that 2010 and many of Guardiola's matches without Messi, some resolute teams have proven extremely difficult to break down. From Madrid, Athletico Madrid for Guardiola to Germany, Netherlands etc for Spain. But I still think that Guardiola is known today, not because of his work with the best midfielders in the last 10 years but because of his work with the best player ever ] Now this is the main deal!!! |

Godx: Messi was not the crown of Peps Barca and that's the fact. The midfield trio was the crown of Pep Barca. Without that Midfield trio there will be no Pep Barca. Messi performance with Argentina and Barca during Pep era proves this. You are the one being economical with the truth here. Bros. There's no gain proving what's not right. Aside from the being the tactical genius and having a midfield trio that could press, who was responsible for scoring most of the goals, providing assists, splitting the defenses with dribbles that would cause even the defenders to commit frustrating fouls? Messi or who? Need I tell you that our most embarrassing moment in the Cl then to Bayern was basically because Messi was not fit. The same goes for Jose's Inter Milan Semi-final against us. The cage was against Messi primarily. I can go on to mention lots of matches that it took the exceptional brilliance of Messi to break through! It was also during this period that he won the Ballon D'or back-back, with the likes of Iniesta and Xavi coming behind. Mind you, I'm not downplaying the trio's contribution ( + Dani Alves too) to Pep best days... But placing Messi behind them is way not acceptable. Even Guardiola will rubbish that claim. It's like not recognizing that it is what he wants to create out of Sterling even when it's obvious that KDB is the craftmaker at City. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Fc Barcelona Fan Thread: "més Que Un Club" by FirstbornWds: 1:38pm On Oct 16, 2020 |
Godx: The midfield trio was the crown of Pep Barca not Messi. Swallow this, please. Messi was the crown of Pep's Barca. There's no disputing that. But then, we mustn't rubbish the midfield prowess then too. Barca's dependence on Messi didn't start 5 years ago. It wasn't just so obvious because we had other players that understood when to complement him when needed. There's no need to be economical with the truth here. |

Most Barcelona fans agreeing that Guardiola won the UCL on the premise of Messi's factor should also remember that there's a reason we've been guaging every other coach that takes up the managerial mantle at Batcelona with his achievement and style.
The iconic Barcelona style and dominance happened under the tutelage of this man, and if you actually agree that he's not worth having a distinction for a job well done, then you're nothing but an integrate. |

myBraine: Sad.
At least, the so-called peaceful protesters have succeeded in taking him down.
I'm an advocate of peaceful protests but among the various problems this country is facing, police brutality shouldn't be one of them.
No one has a monopoly on violence. We all get angry and unable to control our emotions in certain scenarios. Not until you taste power, you won't realize the fact that power intoxicates.
Recently, the Nigerian police sent to every citizen a toll number (like 911) to dial in case of an emergency. Ask yourself, would they have done that if they didn't care for us? This isn't a wise thing to say. It's the police's responsibility to protect the lives of citizens and the 911 thing didn't start today. And to tell you the truth, police brutality is very much one of the issues of peaceful protests. Why would I be scared to move on my daily routines with fear of some men stopping me to abuse me of being too young to be rich? Abeg it's worth it. Police aren't longer our friend. |
