I don't understand how people will go in a frenzy about using up their Airtel Data before Dec 3rd. If they are not gonna support the BIS service on non-BB devices, fine! However, they've gotta refund people's money. It's that simple!!! It's just pitiful to see people accepting the Airtel SMS with glad hearts! Or does Airtel have our mumu button? |
Dear Oyin Please send your job number to ngservice@samsung.com It will be resolved quickly once we have the job number. Regardless of the parts supply delay, 7 weeks is a long time. Sorry for the inconvenience |
Lol ... all the emotion spilled just by a single blog that's not even been verified by anyone with evidence. I just hope my friends will not crucify me and call me names just because of an article on a free platform. I'm not saying the pastor is innocent but I don't have enough information to nail him either (not like it's my business sef) ![]() |

Dear Poster, I followed your thread from Twitter and I must say that I really don't understand what you're saying. Perhaps you could try to explain in clearer terms? If you're a staff that affected, is this how you've been communicating with the Nigeria public? Thank you |
I hope someone will get to confirm this? I hope to get some feedback by tomorrow ![]() |
Hey guys , you won't believe what I came across. According to the advert below, SAMSUNG is doing free service for all their products. Is that really possible? Here's the URL on the advert: http://www.samsung.com/africa_en/support/freeservicecampaign/

Hmmn, interesting comments about OpenVR. There were, admittedly, some rough edges but, as with every other software solution, there is room for improvement. Thanks for your feedback |
Are you sure that the legal limit to travel with is 10000USD? That's a lot of money. Those customs guys go hear am ![]() |
I will make it simple: I have 1m cash. If the owner is game, I will get the car on Sunday. Njoy |

abdul hi, Please send the photos to ftmchat@yahoo.com if I like what I see, we can finalize. |
Hi man, I have 900k for the car. May increase it to 1M if I like what I see. |
I've been away for a very long time and it's quite interesting to meet so many people here. Thank God the linux community is taking shape. I hope to help with support and I squeeze more time. For everybody in doubt, Linux is the best computing platform for you (OK, maybe not) |
I'm am so interested oh! Please let me know what I have to do. Thank you a lot. |
@ Pap, why do I have a feeling that you posted to the wrong board? Mild retardation is really not a nice term to use especially for someone like philo that wants has a plan for school. Philo, don't worry, you'll meet more people like pap that don't understand you. Stay blessed. |
Hello Philo. I graduated from Systems Engineering Unilag. I will advise you to stick with Ahmed's advice. I think that it's right on point. As per programming language of choice, I will really suggest C++. It's still the most versatile programming language in the world. Once you understand the underlying concepts in C++ (particularly OOP), you can easily migrate to other langauges (Java, .NET, PHP). I must inform you that Systems Engineering is not primarily about programming or software development (a good systems engr can do this well). It's basically about developing (Engineering) systems and ensuring that the sub-units work effectively according to user requirements. This involves a lot of calculation and modelling, that's why we program a lot. One of the reason I suggest C++ is because you can get opensource libaries to help you in some of the work you'll do. MATLAB also supports C++ very well. Oh no! I didn't mention MATLAB? Love it baby. You can't survive long without it (Robotics, Operational Research, Image Processing, Control Systems, Statistics, Neural Networks, Symbollic Maths, Signal Processing , ). Finally, if you're adventurous, you may want to use Linux instead of Windows. You can learn a lot from studying other peoples' code. I also think that it's a good OS for learning about computing. Besides, I use C++ QT graphical framework for GUI's and I think it's far easier than Microsofts MFC. You will also learn so much about systems security and get the chance to study the source code of major cryptography algorithms even down to hardware implementation (by studying the OS kernel source code) Bottomline, love C++ and MATLAB. Start now, you won't regret it. You can do .NET and Java later. Before I forget, keep natura's contact details in case you want to get your hands dirty with hardware programming. I have only programmed PIC chips and I can tell you that you definitely need someone to guide you especially if you're using Assembly language. I'm going to bed. Cheers! NB: If you don't understand a lot of what I've said or are confused somehow, welcome to Systems Engineering. Finally you have a chance to use that brain of yours. Hopefully, UNILAG won't sweep you off your feet completely |
@mendax I think I have the same modem as yours. Is it the Haier D1200P Starcomms modem? So far, I've not been able to use this modem on Linux, however, I'm still looking into it. If I get it to work, I'll post what I did here. |
I've been away for like a week and I'm think I'm already lost. OK. It's good to talk with so many peeps that are knowledgeable abt Linux. It's really hard not to feel like a stranger here Nobody's talking abt smart, Yast2, etc. Let's not even talk about apt the DVD bigrovar is working on. I must confess, this ubuntu forum is the best nigerian linux forum I have seen. It's a real community. OK, I will stop whinning! ![]() @pipmaster, you're too much! You can't believe how happy I am for you? Is the modem fast? Can it compare with an Evdo? From my experience, browsing in Linux make more sense than Windows (it seems to download stuff on the background no matter how many you turn off). @uspry1. Thanks for solving the modem issue. I admit I didn't read the history of the post (I've a slllllooooowwwww Starcomms 1X connection). I was lazy to do some research. Have you used QCad before, I installed it on Mandrake 10.1 (3yrs ago) and it didn't quite match up. I guess it would be better now. @huntmaster. Sincerely, I love the Suse Distro. It's fantastic! I left Mandrake (b4 they changed to Mandriva) and started using Suse. I really have not had any real experience with a debian-based distro (I used to use Knoppix for recovery purposes) and that's why I want to try Ubuntu. Besides, I want to be able to relate with everybody here using the same dialect . As per Suse's pact with M$, it gives quite some concern but it may not affect OpenSuse that much. It will affect SLES more. If OpenSuse starts to fell like Winux, I def will migrate gladly. |
Way to go pipmaster. From the info I've seen from lspci, your device is not a pci device. Could you kindly paste the dmesg info so that we may see what we can do. I bet you're learning a lot. That's what linux does, it makes you appreciate computing more and learn more than you expect. |
@ pipmaster. I was referring to the modem. I actually thot that it was a PCMCIA card (the phone bigrovar pasted). I'm sure I've clarified that, right? |
@pimpmaster, thanks for the info. It's looks like we may get to the root of this issue very soon. First, linux detected your modem , and that's really good. It's also good to know that MTN didn't lock the modem; and that it uses the USB2Serial interface Next, it's important to know the EXACT device that linux creates for the modem (if it does at all). Disconnect your PC card; run dmesgconnect your card; run dmesg. Kindly the paste the difference in the output. It will really help to assist you. Third, fire up Windoze and get the ff info: `Baud rate (shouldn't matter because it's a USB interface, nonetheless , )I take it that there's no special software in M$ Windows. Alrite then, waiting for your reply. Cheers! |
bigrovar, I must really tell you that I'm so tempted to switch to Ubuntu but Suse and I have come so far. Your screenshots leave a lot for me to desire, I think I must upgrade my Suse soon . I would love to be able to actively support peeps and that may be only possible if I use Ubuntu myself so that we speak a common language. Is the Kubuntu you have the latest version? Is it a CD or complete DVD? Many questions, right?@pimpmaster, I will love to support you, however, I will need you to answer very simple questions: -what kind of modem do you use? Name, model, type (CDMA, EVDO, GSM) -How did you get it? What Vendor? -Does it run any special application on Windows? Give details please Kindly paste any error messages you get. I would help in detecting the issue with the connection. I must say, that's one thing with Linux. We are from many tribes but speak the same language - kernel. |
bigrovar & adewale: I'm so glad that you guys have really improved with you Linux. Bigrovar, abeg which starcomms modem worked on linux for you? This Ubuntu thread rocks. I feel like I should just push Susu aside and follow Ubuntu ![]() |
