I recently acquired a total of 157hecters of good arable farm land in Ogun state and I intend to farm maize and/or cassava on it. I am in need of information concerning the cost implications as well as the profit prospects of this farming each or these crops.

I am also open to other favorable agricultural uses for the land.

I would appreciate prompt and useful contributions as I'm in a hurry to start work on the land.

Thank You

Waoooo!
That's about 2355 plots of land, approximately 393 acres.
That's big time investment, well I can be of help.

Maize is sold in 100kg bags. Weighing scale. 10 bags make one tonne, which is 1000 kg.

Mind you, not all are in 100kg, some are 120kg. The best way to be sure is by the use of weighing scale. This is Nigeria where anything is possible.

Agriculture / Re: Best Cassava Production Plan To Help You Make Money by fison(m): 6:19pm On Jun 16, 2017
OP You are a confirmed Internet farmer.
You know nothing about farming just look at your analysis, for example #88,000 for palm oil for garri processing.
Now Let me educate you on cassava farming business.
Let assume you want to farm on an hectare of land which is 100m by 100m equal to 10,000m square.
Land clearing during the january /February period will cost you 15000 to 25000 depend on the locations.
Next stage is Tilling and Ridges by tractor or manual, but tractor will be much better and will cost you around 20,000 to 30,000 depend on your locations.
Other stages include herbicide spraying and planting of cassava, you will need like 4 litres of herbicides and 50 bundles of cassava stems for 1 hectare of cassava farm which will cause you around 75,000 for proper planting of 1 meter spacing.
It take cause 9 to 12 months to reach maturity stage and it depends on the species.
Harvesting is done by hand and like me I sell by ton no further processing because of time and stress involve.
For an hectare of cassava farm highest I have uproot is about 63 tons about 2 years ago and was sold at 22500 per ton then.
Thanks
cassava farming is very lucrative no magic about it but it take time.

Great contribution, please how did you determine the sales by tonne. Did you weigh the cassava using scale or what? Kindly clarify, thanks for the anticipated response.

Health / Re: Please Help Am Suffering From Severe Pimples/acne PHOTOS by fison(m): 9:10pm On Jun 10, 2017
One part baking soda mixed with two parts of ground oatmeal makes a great scrub for your face. Just mix together the two ingredients and add enough water to make a paste. Gently rub the paste onto your face, avoiding the eye area. Leave the facial on for a few minutes. Then, gently remove it with plenty of cool water and a wash cloth. Your face will feel noticeably soft and smooth.
Thank me later

Agriculture / Re: Concrete Pond Vs Earthen Pond by fison(m): 2:44pm On Jun 05, 2017
The many advantages of the concrete raceway rearing pond over earthen ponds is summarized below:
*No weed growth or bank erosion
*No structural maintenance
*Swim-up fries can be put directly into
ponds from incubators without excessive loss and the need for hatchery trough is eliminated
*Good water-air circulation
*Good control for chemical flush
treatment of disease
*Use of mechanical crowder for cleaning ponds, grading, and herding fish together for loading tank trucks or pumping into other ponds through a pipe
*Good accessibility for tank trucks, fish pump, and mechanical pellet blower
*Compact unit in small area to simplify working conditions
*self-cleaning devices aid in moving solid waste material from the ponds, *smaller area simplifies bird control problem
*simplifies overall management

Earthen bottom ponds have several
advantages:
*They are relatively simple to build
*Inexpensive per unit of surface area,
and if well constructed, of low maintenance and usually long lasting.

However, there are many drawbacks to these ponds that make them a less advisable choice.
*Earthen bottom ponds require a great deal of land as small earthen ponds do not maintain themselves well.
*Small natural ponds never clear properly due to the slow but invariable dissolution of soil into the water and the difficulty of underwater shelf construction with clay soils.
*Any of the natural occurrences such as moles and insects digging into the pond will have a greater effect on smaller ponds.

NB: the best soils for fish culture are the sandy clay, silty clay loam or clay loam soils.
Pond soil must retain water. Soils with a low infiltration rate are most suitable for fish pond.

Earthen ponds are easier to manage on short run. They are also cheaper to run as water flows in and out naturally without aid. In earthen pond, you don't really have to worry about fish waste or how to clean it.
Where stealing is rampant, it is easier to steal from a concrete pond than an earthen pond.

Concrete pond is good but capital intensive and high management practice with higher yield and good profit.

thank you so much for this. I have some questions :
-when do you spray?
-did you use seed planter?
-at what point did you apply fertilizer?
-have you harvested? If so what was your yield?

-I sprayed with glyphosate the day of planting the maize, and subsequent spraying when weeds starts sprouting. In all, i sprayed thrice before harvesting and once against pest.
- Manual planting of two to three seeds per hole
-I applied fertilizer exactly a month after planting
- I harvested April with a total of 4.7tonnes

Agriculture / Re: Why Cassava Farmers Should Choose The TME 419 Variety by fison(m): 7:26am On Jun 04, 2017
The sellers of Vegetables like Tomato, Ata rodo, Tatase, Sombo usually buys from the popular mile 12 market in Lagos. Most of their location are far from the market.
The women will gladly buy from other source that will reduce the cost of transportation and at a better price.
We need individuals that will get in touch with the Vegetable sellers in their environment.
Lets say you discuss with 50 pepper sellers that each buys 3 small basket of tomatoes.
The total need for the group will be 150 basket.
We will supply the 150 basket to your doorstep on the agreed day
The women each come with their basket pick since they have been informed.
We pay you 10% of the transaction on each basket.
Lets assume a basket is sold for N1000. 10% of 1000 gives 100.
For 150 basket your commission will be 15000
One can start with N100 basket.

We supply as you demand.
Be your own boss.
Lets create job

Be your own boss.

Thanks for this Jethro, am very much interested. How does it go? Primatose@airtelng.blackberry.com
