Defence will always always suffer and look mediocre if midfield (esp) and attack is poor. See as Gabriel was made to look ordinary cos of the ingenuity of pondence and Tierney was rag-rugged that day by Adama. All because our midfield was overwhelmed that day.

Even the game of man u was won because of good midfield plays by partey and elneny who won balls time and time again and launched counter or progressed play excellently. Not saying the defence wasn't good that day but they weren't under pressure until I think the last 5min of the game. I could remember vividly that man u have only one clear cut chance in the 1st half which fell to greenwood. That's because partey and elneny really neutralized man u attack before it even started. And that's Exactly what good midfield will do for you.

Arteta's decision to strengthen defense first was the right thing to do. Had he had Ozil available it would have been a lot different for him and all these talk will not arise. Let's hope good sense will reign in January and we get a decent AM to complete the team.

I feel The defense looks good mainly because of the system Arterta play, when off the ball, notice how everyone sits back and leave no space for opposition to dwell anyhow.

Also, Ozil or another AM won't change things a lot, what is needed is a Sanchez like in the LW
( Saka, Martinelli and Nelson) are still not ready for a full season IMO, they should be eased in, fatigue and diminishing return will set in).
I admitted this with Guen last year.

A carzola type who can arrive in the box, shoot with both feet and constantly drive at opposition with power and pace.

Btw, I just discovered a very good CF and AM/LW from Mochenglabach, they are Alessano Plea and Marcos Thuram(son of Lilian Thuram) respectively. Unfortunately Arsenal scouts are/have been sleeping.

We no talk say make dem no improve attack, we just talk say investing in our defense will save us some points and that has been the case this season. Gabriel has been our standout player on both ends of the field. We need to improve our attack for sure but I can’t understand for the life of me why Arteta can’t get anything out of our current players. I mean, at least an attacking identity.

I remembered how Mustafi, Holding etc were very good when they arrived, Mustafi had this stat of " We don't lose when Mustafi starts till December of the year he he was signed" but later on when the game got intense with a xhaka covering him, Sanchez, Coq and Carzola"s departure, Mustafi turned a pascal cygan and Squilacci.

You noticed how Podence deleted Gabriel? I fear Even Gabriel will begin to look ordinary or poor.

The attack needs strengthening to ease pressure off the defence.

Lol... I've come to agree Emery is a right or good coach but a wrong one for us.

His teams play energetic football and aren't boring (except for arsenal). But why I feel he's the wrong one for us is that he wasn't able to effectively communicate his setups and tactics to his arsenal squad. They were times I read the squad were having it difficult to hear what he was saying and they instead meet Ljumberg to break down what he has said. So I just feel it's breakdown of communication that undid Emery's reign at arsenal.
No wonder he's rediscovered his mojo back Villarreal.
Another thing to note of him is that I feel he can't handle a big club.



But As for Arteta case, I feel he doesn't trust his squad enough. Where the mistrust or distrust came form, I don't seem to place it. But the sooner he realizes that and fix it, the better for arsenal and our results.

Like I've been saying, Arsenal's problem is depper than coaching, for me, its the players and those scouting/suggesting them for this club.

Even if Ebening speaks Queen's English, he can't turn Xhaka to Gilberto, turn Bellerin to Cafu,Pepe to Mane and Mustafi to Ferdinand.

Emery shot himself by believing and trusting those lads, same way Arterta is doing.

The Sevilla Emery's team that won 3 Europa was the reason I believed him, they played fast,hard attacking Spanish football, I remembered how they schooled klopp's liverpool 3-0 at the 2015 finals..Even his PSG side were entertaining but with a bad/average defence.
A coach cannot win 3 Trophies in Europe, 7 trophies in France and be poor/bad.

He might not be a World class coach but far from being bad as Arsenal made him look, and that to me is the reason top coaches like Allegro,Poch,Ancelkoti,Mou etc were not eager for the Arsenal job last year. Nobobdy wants his CV stained.

It will take Arsenal good scouting teams who can discover players like Maddisom,Grealish,Podence,Jota et Al. Without spending huge millions.

For me. Its 60% players fault, not even Pep or Klopp will do wonders with the team, they'll just go on an honey moon winning streak,win some big games or even those league cups only to capitulate later on in the league.

There is something attack does for you reason I was emphasizing on AM and DM before CB. When you have a good attack and midfield your opponents first task is to device ways to contain you, before considering attacking. This gives your defence line breathing space.

But when they know you are no threat attackwise, they will bombard the living day light out of you even if you have 2 VVDs it’s just a matter of time they’ll cave. Couple with the fact that you are lame in attack and can hardly score goals of your own.

But it seems if you don’t type long English and use technical jargons, you don’t know ball.

With Iwobi,Mhicky and Ozil it was still fair drab football under Emery, now with Saka only, it has graduated to pure haram football..

Massive upgrade in the attacking front and even Tony pulis would do well.

One thing with entertaining football is that, once your team is settled with the system, you can easily resolve your defence(if your defence isn't strong enough). Liverpool did it, Chelsea done it now(tho still not certified, we'll wait till this season ends to know how far).

Even Wenger created the system too, but failed to strengthen his defence which was why he was underachieving in the league.

What I'm just saying is that Arteta should try and create attacking system for us to build on(that's what big team does), especially as we have good defence. These his type of "defence first approach" won't take us anywhere, as it'll take away the fear factor the we once had against even small teams. And to be sincere, that's not sustainable for a big club, esp a club like ours.

Then that takes us back to what I used to say Here, The entire front 4 needs to be moved on including Auba..I'm sorry its my opinion.

A Sanchez like is needed at LW, one who can track back, win balls back, start attack, run and delete players on the way with fast dribblings, cuts and shoot, arrive in the box, exchange fast passes with CF,LB and AM with a good shooting power and energy to burn...

A Douglas Costa,Robben,Di maria, or fast paced Oxlade,Adama Traore is needed at RW to break teams down, cut and shoot.

An AM like Carzola,Hleb,Iniesta,Debruyne..who will not only rely on killer pass to create, but run at defence, take players on, always ready to receive ball and progress it, shoots far and near goal post, arrive in box and exchange passes with wingers, CF and full backs.

Then an hardworking CF who won't rely on tap ins, one who will drop deep or to the flanks to create space or individual goals.

Failure to get this means Arsenal will continue to be a midtable team and play ugly football no matter who the club hires as coach.

Arsenal do not need to spend £70M to get these players, just get good scouts who've got eyes like those who saw Hleb,Rosciky,Sagna,Maddisom,Kante,Mahrez etc.

Elneny and Partey have energy to burn, they keep running, wanting the ball, joining attack and helping defence..
Xhaka will not give you that, he's too static and predictable with his passes, Ceballos romance the ball like he is Spain.

The attack has been average since the days of Emery of using Auba and Laca together, but because they score and do that yeye handshake, fans thought Arsenal have the best forward in Europe.

Iwobi was still putting pressure, winning corners, but his end product prompted his sale and buy of Pepe.

I'm afraid AM alone won't solve this, the entire front 4 needs upgrade.

The Avilla and Leeds midfielders were mobile, defending, attacking, winning duels for 90+mins. They don't need to have big names or media hype, it is what we see.

Ceballos( good but inconsistent and not W.class).
Elneny( hardworking not W.class)
Willock( Either not good or not ready)

See Kovacic and Kante, they cover grounds, support attack, help defense and good with the ball.
Leeds and Villa were slicing through that midfield and defending/winning ball backs also.

Arteta's style of football is too negative. I notice our midfielders hardly join the attack, they stay back to defend when we're attacking including all our defenders. When attacking we hardly have more than 2 players in the opponents box 18,how do we expect to score when we attack with few players, in contrast to Leeds, they attack with all their forwards and midfield, at some point when Leeds are attacking I counted like 5 of their players players in our box expecting the ball to score even before Pepe was red carded.

Our style of play is an eyesore and I don't want to believe all the faults lies on the players. Most of the blame is on Arteta, I read his post match conference, it does not inspire confidence at all, he said he was happy with the performance and results. I'd take Emery's football over the nonsense we've been playing under Arteta.

You would still blame Arterta if he attacks and lose 4-3, he prefers to keep things tight because he doesn't trust the defenders on highline.

Wenger and Emery attacked teams and they created chances, score but concede lots as well.
Arsenal do nor have fast midfielders who can run all 90 mins defending and attacking..
The midfielders can't recover should they attack in numbers like Leeds.

Artrta prefers to defend than attack and expose his defense. Atleast he won trophy and some big teams with this approach.

Btw, Emery is sitting 2nd in laliga and he isn't playing haram football, neither did he at PSG and Sevilla.

Arsenal need to invest in modern day energetic talented players, else this present crop will make klopp look like Tony Pulis.

This is the most expensive Arsenal team we have had, yet it is the worst.
