CBN ranks Anambra 2nd in microfinance banking
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclosed that Anambra State currently ranks second in the list of states with highest number of Micro Finance Banks (MFBs) in the country even as the Oko Micro Finance Bank launched its new branch.

Speaking in Oko during the commissioning of the new branch of Oko Micro Finance Bank, a Director at the CBN, Enugu branch, Mr. Ogadi Mmeka, disclosed that apart from Lagos State which has the highest number of banks, Anambra State ranks second.

Mmeka attributed the feat to what he described as industrial nature of Ndi Anambra, adding that it became imperative for more MFBs to spring up in various parts of the state to assist traders in doing their business, while commending the Oko Micro Finance Bank for surmounting various challenges facing the sector.
He urged the bank not to relent in its success but strive harder to open more branches and raise a capital of N100 million to get to the status of a state Micro Finance Bank which will give it leverage to open more branches in any part of the state.

Mmeka further advised the management of Oko Micro Fianance Bank to maintain proper quality internal control measures through installation of ICT to monitor the activities of the bank and its staff to maintain high ethical standards.

Earlier in his address, the Chairman, Board of Directors, Dr. Emma Udoye, attributed the success story of the bank to what he described as synergy between the staff and members of the board, which, he said, led to the bank opening more branches.

Udoye further disclosed that the bank decided to open more branches to serve its numerous customers, noting that it had became necessary to expand its services to accommodate its numerous customers.

He further said the bank surmounted various challenges to get to the present stage because of the unity of purpose in Oko Community, while expressing optimism that in no distant time, the bank would open more branches in other parts of the state to serve its customers better.

Also speaking, the Traditional Ruler of Oko Community, Igwe Prof. Laz Ekwueme, commended the board, management and staff of the microfinance bank for expanding its services to reach out to its numerous customers, disclosing that it was the first community-owned bank to open a new branch in the state.

CBN ranks Anambra third in deposit mobilisation

The Central Bank of Nigeria has rated the economy of Anambra State as among the strongest in the country.

The Branch Manager of the bank in Awka, Mr. Okoro Azubuike, announced the rating in Awka on Thursday when he received the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, who was on the good governance tour of the state.

Azubuike said deposit mobilisation in the state was third in the country behind Lagos and Kano, while it ranked fourth in terms of the presence of commercial and microfinance banks.

He said the commercial cities of Onitsha and Nnewi were large and had made the state the commercial base of the South East region.

In his remarks, Governor Peter Obi said the bank was crucial to the commercial activities of the state, adding that the government had resolved to fast-track the construction of its permanent office in the state.

No need to flog a dead horse, Osun is a dead state, what did Anambra State and Osun state have in common, the economy of Ihiala and Okija alone is bigger than everything that happening in that mud apparition.

Why worry yourself over an ant colony of a barren beggarly state called Osun that can't feed her people.
Have you seen a famous person and people are saying he is from Osun state, have you seen a pure wota that is being manufactured in Osun state huh .

Anambra don't discuss about an Osun its an Osun state that will be discussing about an Anambra state, Americans don't talk about Pakistanis, its Pakistanis that will be showing anti-America sentiments because they are at the bottom of the ladder so to stay relevant you only need to spar with the leader not that you have the stamina to stand his barrage of punches .

Chelsea consider Barca their rival in Europe while West Ham sees Millwall as their rival, Barca don't talk about a match between them and Millwall and Chelsea won't even know any team in Spanish lower league.

You can only torment the rich, the poor have nothing to lose~Imelda Marcos

How much should Anambra make from suing a place that look like Osun when the state is already in red and insolvent, they are still indebted to Anambra State having sold bonds in the Stock Market and used the proceeds to party and marry uncountable wives.

Osun is backward village that need aid instead of lawsuit to survive.
I will advise us to start a campaign to help Osun people and not by aggravating their sufferings by slamming a lawsuit on the already collapsed village.

How about ritual dens in southwest?
One of the victims that were rescued by the police at Soka forest, Ibadan, Oyo State, which is believed to be a ritual killers’ den, said she was kidnapped in September 2013.

The victim, whose name is being withheld for security purpose, is currently recuperating with seven other victims in Adeoyo Hospital, Ibadan.

No fewer than 20 decomposing bodies were discovered in the forest on Saturday, while about 23 others were rescued alive.

They were taken to different hospitals in the city, with eight of them – four men and four women – in Adeoyo Hospital.

The woman, who was still weak from her experience, told PUNCH Metro that she knew she left her home in September and since then could not remember anything until Saturday when she was rescued.

She said, “I remember that I left my home in Okebola and was going to Challenge. I entered a taxi and that is the only thing I can remember until police rescued us yesterday (Saturday).”

When asked whether she did not see her captors killing people and selling their parts, she said, “I think such thing happened, but it did not really register because my mind was blank.

“I can recollect seeing people falling down, I can remember that some were taken away and they never returned, but really, it did not mean anything to me until Saturday. It was as if I woke up from a slumber.”

At this point, the victim countenance changed as if she went into a trance. Many questions asked by our correspondent went unanswered.

PUNCN Metro also observed that other victims were yet to regain their full strength.

They muttered words that were disjointed, but the nurses said they would regain full mental and physical ability.

They said two days of treatment was not enough to cure them completely, having been chained and maltreated for a long time.

No doctor was around to attend to our correspondent, but it was gathered that two of the victims were able to give their names.

Families, youths visit forest

Families whose members had been missing on Sunday besieged the forest where captives, skulls and decomposing bodies were found with the hope of finding them there.

One of such is the Oguntade family. The family spokesman, Kehinde, said their father, Isaac Oguntade, 95, left home in the Gbongan area of Osun State on December 31, 2013, but never returned.

“He is an old man, but still strong. He was a retired teacher and he was going to a bank on Osogbo Road on the day we last saw him.

“We have searched everywhere in vain. When we heard of this discovery, we came down to see if our father could be one of the victims, but we could not find him here,” said Kehinde.

A police report, dated January 14, 2014 and signed by one Inspector Akinlade Lawrence, confirmed his claim.

Also, hundreds of angry youths visited the forest, unleashing mayhem on visitors and herdsmen who graze their cattle in the area.

Our correspondent, who visited the forest on Sunday, saw the youths slaughtering and sharing cow meat and vandalising vehicles.

One of such vehicles with Lagos number plate, MK 126 AAA, belongs to a presenter with Splash FM. He also sustained injury with a deep cut on his head.

The youth also attacked security men of a company situated close to the area of the discovery. At the junction linking the road to the narrow forest, a man had been burnt to death. Eyewitnesses said he was linked to the operators of the camp.

A large number of adult and kids clothes and shoes were at the scene, while mats and other household items were found inside some of the rooms in the building where the captives were reportedly kept.

Oyo reacts

However, a statement from the Oyo State Police Command stated that a man had been arrested in connection with the discovery, while arms and ammunition were also discovered at the scene.

It reads in part, “Incident report on murder/ unlawful possession of firearms about 1730 hrs yesterday (Saturday). Information received at tollgate division that behind the Oyo State urban mass transport yard, Soka area Ibadan, some area boys, about 100, invaded the area, searching for two missing cyclists. They discovered an uncompleted compound where two women and five men were found chained and looking unkempt.

“Some decayed corpses and skeletons were also found in a nearby bush. The scene was visited and one Abideen Akanmu was arrested. He said he was employed by one Gbadamosi, now at large, to take care of the destitute found there. Victims evacuated to hospital, while a corpse was deposited at same hospital mortuary for autopsy.

“Five security men in a nearby company were also arrested and the following items were recovered from them – three single-barrelled gun, one bow, 16 arrows, 22 cutlasses, 40 life cartridges, seven table knives, two axes, two iron files and one phone.

“Angry mob set the security post ablaze but the fire was put out. The State Criminal Investigation Department is investigating the discovery.”

Residents who spoke to our correspondent said there was enough evidence to conclude that the place was for ritual killing.

One of them, who identified himself as Comrade Rasheed, said, “We have searched the whole forest and found strange things. There are decomposing bodies of people and more than 50 skulls.

“There are houses in the forest and no one lives there. We saw a man who claimed to be a student of a university, but on close examination, we found out that he was not mentally alright. The police should not conclude that the place is where mad people were treated.”

One of the volunteers, Abiodun Olaniyi, said a man approached them with a gun, but disappeared into the forest when he saw the huge crowd.

“A woman we found there said she had given birth to children for her captives. We rescued many people who were still alive and a dead body in the septic tank.

Another resident, Kolawole Falana, said,“I was hit with the butt of a gun by the police. They did not allow us to break a slab and see if people were kept underground.”

Where the living buys the dead, From the mortuary, through the cemetery and finally to Jankara market in Lagos, the thriving business in human parts

IN the state of Lagos, the economic capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, various activities (notorious ones for that matter) have been going on among the living against the dead. The living have been disturbing the dead, grave crimes are being perpetuated against the dead as wicked and hardened Nigerians go to any length at making money. Even, the living is also victims of these notorious and wicked people who derive pleasure in hurting and putting people through pain and sorrowful death before taking their human parts for various purposes ranging from rituals and money making. According to our source who prefers to remain unidentified, these people are very young Nigerians. “ All these small, small boys get plenty money and dem they carry gun de waka about, when they come in the night for human parts they no de price am, dem go just pay us the money”. He said their activities start in the mid-night of every day. The source went further to say that depending on the type and size, either fresh ones or the decayed, determines the price for the human parts. When asked how they who work in the cemetery meet up with the demands for human parts, he said that they get human parts from various sources. The Ikoyi cemetery is divided into two parts. The first part is the one they call the part for permanent burial which is located at both left and right of the road and very close to the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). While the second part is the temporary site located at the back of the FRCN at the extreme end of Ikoyi, close to the former Federal Secretariat and SSS building, Alagbon in Ikoyi. The bulk of the human parts sold at Ikoyi cemetery is from this temporary site because those buried at this part of the cemetery are unknown people and bodies that are not claimed at the mortuary which are brought for mass burial. After their bodies are buried, and usually they are buried by these same labourers, the grave site is identified. When night comes and their customers arrived, they exhume the bodies and after placing orders for specific parts, they slice off the parts and have the body reburied. The preference of the cemetery for purchase of human parts by these people is because according to National Daily findings, parts from the cemetery are fresh ones which are just buried that same day or a day later. For these reason they are very expensive. The parts that are mostly on demand are the female bosom, public hair, the male organ and the tongue. The most expensive and most difficult human part to obtain is the heart, it is difficult because it depends on what they want to use it for and the process of extracting the heart from the body is rather difficult because if not properly done it may be damaged and becomes useless. “Putting into consideration the type of vehicles that these people bring when they come for the purchase and the calibre of some prominent people who at times come to the cemetery with their herbalist to perform some rituals, it is going to be very difficult before the perpetrators of this act can be brought to book” the source said. These prominent Nigerians according to our source who made me swore to an oath before he continued talking use these human parts for longetivity, to extend their life span on earth and to cure some ailment that defile medical solutions. They also use the heart of women to look more beautiful and younger. The Yoruba's call this “Ogun Ajidewe” The other categories of buyers are those who want to make use of the human parts for money making and for self defence so that they would be saved from attacks of their enemies and opponents. The parts mostly used for money making are the female bosom and the public hair, using the human eye is out of fashion because at times it fails to perform as expected. When the National Daily reporter pressed further with questions on why there is increase in ritual murders in the state of Lagos, our source said cases of ritual murders have reduced greatly because people who seek fresh human parts have found out it is much more difficult to abduct people and kill them but that it is easy to come to the cemetery and purchase with “ease”. “After all the dead is dead no matter what if they do not cut it off it will just decay”, the source said. This human parts business has even gone beyond the cemetery in Lagos. Now a days, human parts are not only sold in cemeteries but also at market places where intending customers wishing to purchase human parts ranging from tongue to fingers, human bosoms to male genital organs or private parts including human skulls. This market where human parts are sold is located in the very heart of Lagos and it is a very popular market where various goods ranging from house hold items to industrial goods are sold, they are easily available in this market and when you move deeper inside the market there is a section where herds are sold, for different kinds of sicknesses such as malaria fever, black soap, "Osedudu" and other natural remedies used for traditional practices. The name of this market is the famous and popular Jankara market in Lagos Island. It stretches from the beginning of Adeniji Adele Bridge up to the very end of Idumota. It is a very big and wide market and if you are not very conversant with the market you might lose your way. Traders in human parts at the Jankara market get their stocks from three main sources and these are the cemetery, from dead bodies lying on the road side and from the mortuary where bodies that are not claimed and meant for mass burial are sold to these traders who after taking their own parts dump the body anywhere. This is one of the reasons while ?lifeless bodies are found on the street of Lagos with some of the parts sliced off. “Not all these bodies are victims of ritual murders”; some are bodies of unclaimed corpses sold out to merchants who deal in human parts”. If you are not in the business of purchasing human parts or conversant in the way and manner business is done at the market, you might get yourself into trouble in the market. They operate with signs mostly done with the eyes. They know themselves and they know the stalls to go for their purchase. “These means that you cannot just go into Jankara market and say you want to buy human parts, you will get yourself into trouble”. National Daily investigation further shows that human parts have a different name in Jankara, at Jankara, human part is called “Melumo” meaning keep your mouth shut. It also comes in two categories which are called TUTU or GBIGBE meaning fresh or dried parts. So immediately you are able to identify your merchant through signs and the use of slogans, he will immediately understand that you are a human parts buyer. Despite the renovation and construction due to the modernization of the city by the state government, Jankara keeps striving because the merchants in Jankara have a way of perfecting their business within the environment, the human parts are not displayed nor neither is any part of the market designated as a section for the selling of human parts. But the business of human parts selling is so perfected that when a buyers is around communication are made swiftly through eye signs and slogans that only those involve in the business can understand it. Secondly Jankara human parts market is still striving because the merchants are so good in preserving the human parts from decaying and keeping it in good condition for the specific purpose it is needed for. In the course of our investigation, National Daily spoke to some residents of Lagos Island and they confirm the validity of the sale of human parts at Jankara market but most of them prefer not to talk extensively on it but said the tradition in human parts sale in Jankara has been going on for so many years.
