PoliticsBuhari Fails In Owerri •as APC Women Regret Protest Against Jonathan by FKO81(op): 12:43pm On Mar 25, 2015
APC Supporters In Imo State Are Disappointed That Their Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, Could Hardly Stand To Address Them For Two Minutes
Damian Duruiheoma, Owerri
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari’s last minute campaign in Imo State proved disastrous for his ambition as the majority of the party faithful were disappointed with his inability to speak to them for up to two minutes. Buhari could hardly convince party supporters who had thronged the Dan Anyiam Stadium to hear him tell them the level he would take the country to if he emerged the president of the country. Rather, he spoke for less than two minutes, asking the people to reflect on the leadership of the country under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before leaving the stage, a development that attracted the ire of the party members.
“We didn’t know that they only brought us here to protest against the president of our country. They invited us as women leaders from our communities, that is why you could see hundreds of us. We thought we were coming for CGC seminar as they told us, we didn’t know we were called out to come and fight their own fight”
As party members showed their disapproval of Buhari, some of the several Women APC supporters, who were recruited to protest against President Goodluck Jonathan in Owerri, have told The UNION, that they were deceived by Governor Rochas Okorocha, to stage the protest. They said they were ferried to Owerri in the guise of attending a seminar only to be used to cause a blockade against the president. However, party members were of the view that it was Buhari’s weakness of the body that prevented him from speaking as other campaigners normally do, attributing it to health failure. Some of the APC followers at the stadium, who were led by a man who simply identified himself as Andrew Ibemere, said, “I’ve said it time without number that this man is not fit to lead us as president and has no business in government anymore.
For us, we will vote for President Goodluck Jonathan during the presidential election and Governor Rochas Okorocha for governorship election.” But reacting to the development, Director-General of Rochas Okorocha Campaign Organisation and state commissioner for Housing and Urban Development and Beautification, Iheukwumere Alaribe, attributed the development to a series of meetings which the APC presidential aspirant had in Anambra and Enugu States. “He has two other places to attend-Anambra and Enugu- and all these programmes had to be re-adjusted because of the time he had to spend in Abuja this morning in meetings. He is very healthy. “It’s not as if he could not speak to the people of the South East for longer minutes, but when he goes to Anambra, he is also going to speak to the people of the South East. “What he came to do here is just jamboree because he has had an opportunity of speaking with Igbo leaders from all works of life where he had heart-to-heart talk. “Let me tell you, it’s like chasing a woman, you don’t have to do that in the public. The most important things have been done in doors”, he said.
Meanwhile, information available to The UNION from Onitsha, Anambra State indicated that Buhari could not attend the South East Town Hall meeting due mainly to his failing health condition. He was said to have abruptly cancelled his scheduled appearance at the meeting Monday evening. A reliable party source told The UNION that the APC presidential candidate felt exhausted after attending the rally in Owerri hours earlier. According to the source, the senator representing Anambra central district, Sen. Chris Ngige, had to plead with the disappointed audience that the presidential candidate could not make it due to “conditions beyond Buhari’s control”. He said “I can tell you that the APC campaign activity in Owerri may have aggravated his condition”. Meanwhile, hundreds of women of Imo State loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday regretted that they were deceived and brought to Owerri, the state capital to protest against the coming of President Goodluck Jonathan to the state.
The women had stormed the chambers of the Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, Owerri, to protest the use of the place by a faction of traditional rulers led by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya to receive the president, saying the place was a Women Development Centre where they were supposed to hold a seminar. They blocked the roads to the centre, a development that led to the police and the soldiers begging them to give way. But they insisted and stayed put. They were however chased out of the place by some policemen through the use of tear-gas canisters. But speaking with journalists, one of the women from Okigwe LGA, who was clutching her baby by her side, Mrs. Ngozi Anorue, said they were invited by the governor for a seminar at the centre. “But, we didn’t know that they only brought us here to protest against the president of our country. They invited us as women leaders from our communities, that is why you could see hundreds of us. We thought we were coming for CGC seminar as they told us, we didn’t know we were called out to come and fight their own fight. “Look my brother stop blaming me. Do I have any problem with President Jonathan? I don’t. So, why should I come and begin to protest against the president. In fact, most of us believe that we will vote for President Jonathan and later vote for Rochas. So we were deceived to protest against President Jonathan, ” she said.

PoliticsRe: WHY INEC Mocked Election Failed In Kano But A Success In Lagos And Delta State? by FKO81(m): 7:54am On Mar 08, 2015
sincerenigerian:
There are reports of 60% success and 40% failure in the mock election that took place in Kano today. Reports that came in so far from Lagos and Delta have shown that it was an 100% success recorded in the southern states.

Here is the reason why 40% could not get their thumbs verified by the card reader in Kano State today:

The potential voters who couldn't get their thumbs verified were as a result of their hand in ink as shown below.
ANAMBRA: Malfunctioning machine THE mock accreditation conducted at Igboukwu Ward 1 in AnambraState showed the Card Reader failing to recognise about half of those who presented the cards. It also took between 10 seconds and 10minutesfor the Card Reader to clear some of the prospective voters, just as the battery of some of the machines went down after barely three hours of operation.

Even when some people washed their hands and returned to try again, the Card Reader still rejected their fingers. One significant feature of the exercise was the rejection of PVCs bysome pollingcenters, which some of the stakeholders described as a welcome development as it showed thatnobody can vote outside the area where he registered.

The state REC, Mr. Edwin Nwatarali, who monitored the exercise with some of his staff, took note of the deficiencies. He however expressed happiness that there was no incidence of the Card Reader rejecting the PVCs brought to the pollingstations by their owners. The REC was also confronted with the issue of those who claimed that their PVCs were already signed by other people by the time they went to collect them, but he advised those who had such problemsto report to him for proper verification.

Though the INEC staff were at their dutyposts by 8.00 am, prospective votersdid not arrive early, apparently due to lack of publicity. For instance, at Amaudo Akwukwa polling unit, the first voter arrived at about 9.00am. and it took three secondsfor him to be accredited. However, as the exercise was going on, public address systems were used to ask people in the ward to go for the mock election.

When it became a common feature thatthe Card Reader was rejecting fingersof most voters, the INEC workersasked such people to go and wash their hands without rubbing bodycream. In some of the polling units, the INEC workers resorted to usinghandkerchiefs to clean the fingers of the affected people, and it still did not work for some people.

Some of the party candidates that had Igboukwu as part of their constituency also monitored the exercise. The senatorial candidate for Anambra South, Dr. AndyUba, who is also the Chairman of Senate Committee on INEC, observed the exercise in some of the polling units and was briefed by the INEC workers about the challenges they were facing.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the foremost socio-political body of the Igbos, on Tuesday endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for re-election in the 2015 presidential elections. The body took the decision at a meeting at its national secretariat in Enugu.Noting that Igbos contributed massively to Jonathan’s victory in 2011, Ohanaeze Ndigbo said it had to choose between backing the President to complete his second term in office, or withdrawing its support for him.In arriving at the decision to back Jonathan, Ohanaeze said it took note of the fact that, although the President had not done as much as Igbos expected from him, he has improved infrastructure in the South-East, and given Igbos a general sense of belonging in his administration.A statement, titled ‘Presidential Election, 2015: The Stand of Ndigbo,’ which was jointly signed by the President-General, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey, the Chairman, South-East Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, and the Secretary-General, Dr. Joe Nwaorgu, said the endorsement followed wide consultations. The body also stressed that the decision to endorse Jonathan was made in the “collective interests” of all Igbos, as well as in solidarity with the people of the South-South.

PoliticsRe: Buhari's Letter To Ohaneze by FKO81(m): 6:49am On Feb 01, 2015
[s]
MayorofLagos:
A LETTER written by the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari, to the leadership of the Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, the umbrella socio-cultural organisation of Nd’Igbo, is at the root of the current crisis threatening the organisation.

Not long ago, there was an attempt by yet-to-be identified persons to destroy the Ohanaeze Secretariat at No 7 Park Road, GRA, Enugu, even as a splinter group, led by the first republic Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, continues to battle the Gary Enwo Igariwey-led executive over the duration of its tenure.

However, investigations by The Guardian revealed that, contrary to the argument by the Mbazulike Amaechi that the tenure of the Ohanaeze executive is for a period of two years, the letter from Buhari seeking audience with leaders of Nd’Igbo actually sparked off the hostilities.

It was gathered that after the South East spokesman of the APC, Mr. Osita Okechukwu, brought the letter personally signed by General Buhari, an argument ensued between Amaechi and the Ohanaeze leaders over how and where the APC presidential candidate should be received.

In the letter — titled: “Request for Consultative Meeting” and dated November 7, 2014 — Buhari had written: “A time comes in the history of nations, when the ligaments holding the nation are stretched to their very ends, creating uncertainty, despair and general despondency to pervade the land. It is without pleasure that I say our country is once at crossroads.

“This regrettably is where none of us wants our dear nation to be; and it is because of this unpleasant scenario that I am persuaded by many Nigerians to come forward again to seek for your votes, in order to halt Nigeria’s dangerous slide into anarchy and possible state failure.

“In coming to the inevitable conclusion to seek your support and lend my humble service again to our fatherland, I considered it pertinent to hold consultations with all communities nationwide in order to build a mutually acceptable national consensus. Needless to add, no national consultation will be complete or meaningful without a meeting with the leadership of Ohanaeze NdIgbo.

“Since I cannot assume to know all the pressing issues facing Ndigbo or what Ndigbo expect of the new Nigeria we wish to build, I would greatly appreciate if you could kindly arrange a consultative meeting with Ohanaeze Ndigbo where we could discuss and try to determine how this could best be done”.

But no sooner had the letter gotten to the Ohanaeze leaders than the subject matter divided them because while Chief Amaechi was said to have told the Ohanaeze executive led by Igariwey that he should be allowed to host Buhari and his delegation at his country home, the Ohanaeze leaders objected.

A source close to Amaechi confided in The Guardian that the elder statesman, having noticed the body language of the Ohanaeze leaders towards possible endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan, contended that, as the most senior living political actor in Igbo land, he should be the one to receive the Buhari delegation.

“But the Igariwey executive insisted that since the letter was addressed to Ohanaeze Nd’Igbo, Buhari and his delegation should be received at the Ohanaeze Secretariat. The argument was partly the reason the issue of endorsement of President Jonathan was shelved until all the various contestants must have met with Ohanaeze,” the source disclosed adding that the crisis was instigated to ensure that each faction could endorse a different presidential candidate.

As at the time of filing this report, neither Chief Igariwey nor Chief Amaechi could be reached for comments.
