Abuja — On July 12, 2014, Kaztec Engineering Limited, a leading 100% indigenous EPCIC-M provider in the Nigerian Oil & Gas landscape, announced the completion of the Ebugu BC-2 Booster Compressor installation in the OML 123 offshore field.

Kaztec's Commercial Director, Mr. Marc Robillard, at a high-level meeting at the Addax headquarters in Geneva Switzerland, confirmed the announcement. Speaking during the visit, Mr. Robillard said, "This is another significant milestone for Kaztec Engineering. It demonstrates without a doubt our technical capability to deliver expertly on any engineering project."

"You may recall that two months ago, after a complex fabrication process, involving highly skilled engineers and fabricators, Kaztec commenced the load of Addax Petroleum Development Nigeria Limited's (APDNL) Ebugu Booster Compressor BC-2, onto Kaztec's pipelay derrick barge, the Ekulo Cheyenne."

"The successful installation of the BC-2 Compressor at OML 123 increased the output and productivity of the Ebugu wells," Mr. Robillard said.

APDNL Managing Director, Cornelis Zegelaar confirmed that the Ebugu BC-2 Compressor installation efficiently allows for the reinjection of gas into the reservoir. In doing so, he says, sufficient gas lift will then be available for underpinning production sustainability within the OML 123 Field. In responding to the question of expected capacity of the field, he said, "It is expected that this increase will be in the region of 6000 barrels of oil per day.

During the auspicious meeting, the CEO of Addax Petroleum, Mr. Xinmin Wu, echoed similar sentiments when he said; "Kaztec Engineering Limited has proven over the years that it is capable of handling projects successfully in Nigeria. I want to continue working with Kaztec to see a sustainable growth pattern."

"I can only echo what the CEO said. We enjoy the relationship that Addax/Kaztec has, and we are pleased with the mutual respect and seamless integration," Mr. Zegelaar said.

Ibeto Cement for example, does not even manufacture cement, unlike West African Portland Cement Company (WAPCO), which actually manufactures its own cement from limestone in the SW region. Ibeto Group, remains a major cement importing and re-bagging firm. One of the majority shareholders in WAPCO is Odua Investments followed by Lafarge.

Despite your long list, yet your South-East region is still economically backward, and your people are still crying of marginalisation. Shame!! Even the Anumudu you cited here, has not commenced the so-called assembly plant, he intends to open. He decided to even set up his business within the Lekki area of Lagos. Why not in the SE? So what is the fuss? He is still importing fully built up units, like every other car dealer on the street.

Chairman of Globe Motors Holdings, Mr. William Anumudu, who disclosed this in Lagos, yesterday, said the company was putting finishing touches to its assembly plant located at Lekki area, adding that the plant had a capacity for 40,000 cars on completion and would generate employment for 3,500 Nigerians. However, the plant will produce about 6,000 vehicles annually for a start, including passenger cars, pick-ups, high capacity buses and trucks. Anumudu added that another 10,000 jobs would be created indirectly as a result of the multiplier effect of the plant. According to him, the company will start with the production of Semi Knockdown parts, SKD, and later graduate to complete knock down parts, CKD, for Hyundai, Higer and Globe Motors brands. He further explained that the company would be assembling three brands of automobiles, including Hyundai (Korea), Higer (China) and its own brand, adding that the company had signed agreements with the Original Equipment Manufacturers, OEM, of these brands to produce the vehicles to global standards. Commending the government for coming up with a policy for the auto industry, Mr. Anumudu said: “We have made a lot of progress in the new plant. We keyed into the government auto policy, though we were hesitant at the beginning, but we have realized it is the way to the nation’s economic development.”

Emeka Ene is the CEO of the Oildata Energy Group and Xenergi, both leading technology based companies operating primarily in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry. He is a Geophysical Engineer by training and holds a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Lagos. He is an OPM alumnus of the Harvard Business School.
Emeka worked as a field engineer in 1985 in various capacities in Italy, Libya, Cameroon, Republic du’ Benin, Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria and Gabon. During this period he was involved in field operations, field testing, introduction of new sub-surface imaging technology and field management. Emeka has also done technical work in Reservoir Fluid-contact Monitoring Technology and helped develop prototype applications utilizing Thermal-epithermal and Pulsed Neutron Technology.
Emeka has also been actively involved in Gas to Power Technologies and Stranded Gas Projects in the Niger Delta.
Emeka is the Chairman of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Past Chairman of Section 103 of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Chairman of the Editorial Board of “The Nigeria Oilfield Review” and FASTRAKOIL both quarterly technical bulletins on the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
As part of his contribution to the body of technical knowledge and best practices, he has published several technical papers in the areas of Rigless Well Intervention, Reservoir Monitoring and Well Conformance Technology.
Emeka pioneered the MIND Foundation, a non-profit initiative working with rural children ages 10 to 15 years in the Niger Delta. MIND is involved in developing leadership and life-long learning, computer based education and hands-on skills. He was also a volunteer instructor/business mentor for the FATE Foundation in Port Harcourt.
