bloodyBLOGGER:Gov. Willie Obiano’s Environmental Strides: The Environment is one of the key Enablers in Gov. Willie Obiano’s blueprint. Anambra is one of Nigeria's smallest states in geographical size, measuring only 4,844 Square Kilometres. Gov. Willie Obiano is personally concerned about the perennial menace of soil erosion in the state. His swift response to the gully erosion that recently cut off the Nkpor Junction in Idemili Council Area is indicative of his sure-fire approach to environmental issues in the state. He has mounted a serious campaign to retrieve our cities from the menace of dirt and instil a culture of cleanness in our people. To demonstrate his capacity to create a cleaner Anambra, he demolished a 30-year old mountain of refuse in Okpoko last year. Our road-sweepers can be seen everywhere in Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi cleaning up the cities and making the Anambra environment more liveable. Gov. Willie Obiano’s Mass Transit Scheme Revolution: Gov. Willie Obiano’s administration in the last two years has made bold attempts at changing urban transportation in Anambra State by initiating the modern mass transit scheme that covers the three major cities in the state with 200 brand new taxis and 40 luxurious buses. This was followed up by the construction of modern bus stops and bus terminals in strategic parts of the state. This initiative was recently expanded to include marine transport with 24 Speedboats and Water Ambulances and one Gunboat for the Nigerian Navy. The idea is to open access to the riverine communities in the state and ensure that no part of the state is cut off from the phenomenal development spreading across the state. Gov. Willie Obiano is also building a comprehensive vehicle inspection workshop in Awka that will check the road-worthiness of vehicles in Anambra State to minimize the carnage on our roads. He personally made sure that the Smart cars he donated to the police in December last year are equipped with Speed-tracking Devices that would help the state enforce sanity on our roads. Public Utilities Are Receiving Gov. Willie Obiano’s Touch: Gov. Willie Obiano recently commissioned 47 solar-powered boreholes that will serve 27 communities in Aguata and Anambra East Local Government Areas respectively. He is not relenting on rural electrification as he has expanded the 33KVA line that supplies power to Anambra North and installed 250 transformers in strategic locations across the state. Meanwhile, he is seriously working on an ambitious project of installing streetlights along the old Enugu Road that will run from Nkpor to Amansea. On completion, the project will change the entire landscape of Anambra State; stimulating commerce, strengthening security and promoting social life in various communities located along that road. Workers’ Welfare Is A Priority To Gov. Willie Obiano: Anambra is second to none in the welfare of workers in the whole of Nigeria courtesy of Gov. Willie Obiano’s commitment to the happiness of workers. Anambra under Gov. Willie Obiano’s watch is the only state that increased the salary of workers by 15% in 2015 at a time when many states were looking for bailouts. He has also shown the humane side of governance with a series of worker-friendly policies and gestures. For instance, he has since cleared the N1.9bn arrears of salaries owed the State Water Corporation staff as well as the approximately N1bn pension owed Local Government retirees inherited by his administration. Similarly, he humanised governance by granting amnesty to 25 prisoners serving different jail terms in Anambra State to mark Nigeria's 55th Independence Anniversary last year. These ex-convicts are currently undergoing training in a school for skill acquisition at Umueri and will be handed N1m each at the end of their training. The Gov. Obiano Engineered IGR Revolution: Gov. Willie Obiano has set an impressive record in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) with a remarkable increase from the N500m monthly that he inherited from his predecessor to N1.3bn per month at the moment. He achieved this through a timely deployment of cutting edge technology and a clinical wedding out of over 800 ghost workers from the state civil service. Gov. Willie Obiano has made several efforts to boost the state IGR; holding Strategic Retreats and Summits to seek new ways of increasing revenues without raising taxes. Right now, his mantra is “doing more with less,” and his target is to achieve N2.2bn in monthly revenue generation before the end of this year without increasing taxes. These Two Years Have Shown What Could Be Achieved In Fullness Of Time: Two years is hardly enough time in the life of any administration to make a lasting impression on the people. But Gov. Willie Obiano and his Team have demonstrated a strong ambition for greatness. He has shown that given time and resources, He can turn Anambra State into Nigeria's new postcard for excellence! The records are there for all to see. But to achieve that, he needs your support and prayers. And more importantly; He needs your belief! He needs your belief in our collective capacity to change our beloved state for the better. He needs your belief in our ability as individuals to make a difference in our personal lives, our families and in our communities. Every great society was built by men and women who believed in their God-given abilities to make a change. In Anambra State, we can all be the change we desire! But first; we must believe! We must believe that change is not only possible but can be wrought by us. And as we look forward to another year of great expectations in Anambra State, Gov. Willie Obiano urges all to lend a hand to his efforts to build a strong and prosperous Anambra state. |
bloodyBLOGGER:What you asked A Vision Well Defined: In arriving to where we are today, His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano began by defining his Vision and Mission in Anambra State. He started by stating that his Vision was to make Anambra State the 1st Choice Investment Destination and a hub for industrialization and commercial activities. He also declared that his Mission was to make Anambra State a socially stable, business-friendly environment that would attract both indigenes and foreigners to seek wealth-creating opportunities. And to guarantee the realisation of these two Statements, he crafted a Blueprint known as the Four Pillars of Development which revolves around Agriculture, Industrialization, Trade and Commerce and Oil & Gas. His Vision and Mission Statements came together in a perfect synergy with the Four Pillars of Development to make up his dream for Anambra State. Gov. Willie Obiano’s Decisive Bold Moves: It was clear that the major obstacle that stood in Gov. Obiano’s dreams for Anambra State was the challenge of Security which had made Anambra State the theatre of crime and criminality in the South East of Nigeria since the end of the Civil War. Realizing that there could be no meaningful progress in the state without a successful attack against crime and knowing that no investor would go to a crime-ridden environment, Gov. Willie Obiano launched an all-out war against kidnappers, armed robbers, drug-dealers and child-traffickers. Smashing crime syndicates and pulling down the warehouses used for keeping kidnap victims. In furtherance of his unwavering commitment to keeping the state safe and secured, Gov. Willie Obiano donated smart cars to the police, a gunboat to the Navy and just last Christmas, launched police helicopters to watch over the skies of Anambra state. And for the first time since the creation of this great state, the state was effectively secured on the land, in the waters and in the sky! Achieving 360 degrees security coverage of the state and succeeded in solving the 46-year old puzzle of crime in Anambra State and making Anambra state the safest state in Nigeria. Gov. Obiano Opening Anambra Up To The World: Gov. Willie Obiano’s effort at wedding out crime from Anambra State has yielding immediate benefits, it has opened up Anambra state to the world and made the state attractive to great sons and daughters of the state and wise investors. The Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), comes handy. With the mandate of attracting investments and fast-tracking the process of investment in Anambra state, the Agency has attracted investments in Agriculture, Trade & Commerce, Manufacturing, Hospitality, Housing, Electricity generation, Waste management, Health, and Oil and Gas to the tune of $3.2billion to the state and more investments are coming. The Employment Values Gov. Willie Obiano Has So Far Created: Gov. Willie Obiano while soliciting for Ndi-Anambra’s votes in 2013, promised the people jobs, jobs, jobs and jobs and today he is proudly doing so. With the quality of investments he has attracted so far to the state, the unemployment problem in the state has reduced and will further reduce in no distant time. Gov. Willie Obiano’s projection is that in Agriculture – 27,000 direct jobs and 100,000 indirect jobs will be created. In Industry, Trade & Commerce – 12,000 direct jobs and 45,000 indirect jobs will be created. In Real Estate & Hospitality – 11,000 direct jobs and 39,500 indirect jobs will be created. In Power & Transportation – 2,000 direct jobs and 8,200 indirect jobs will be created. In Health – 500 direct jobs and 1,900 indirect jobs will be created. In all, a total number of 52,500 direct jobs and 200,000 indirect jobs are expected to be created. Over 500 youths have been effectively trained in diverse skills and crafts at the Technology Incubation Centre in Nnewi while 500 other youths have been trained at the Agricultural Training Institute in Mgbakwu. With lots of great plans for the Anambra youths and the unemployed in Anambra State, the future can only get better. Gov. Obiano’s Sound Economic Blueprint: Ndi-Anambra will recall that Gov. Willie Obiano in his Inaugural Address had declared that: “the time has come to prove to ourselves that the enterprising spirit for which our people are known all over the world can take firm roots at home; that together as one, we can be masters of our own house!” He had also assured, that “under my administration, we have no choice than to decide whether we are truly the sons and daughters of our fathers and true heirs to their long history of pioneering excellence!” The achievements in the last two years have confirmed that truly, we are the children of our fathers. Obu nna anyi mulu anyi!" A look at what Gov. Willie Obiano did with the Four Pillars of Development confirms this much. Gov. Obiano’s Fine Touch In Agriculture: Gov. Willie Obiano made agriculture his main trust which was why barely two months into the life of his administration, he launched the Agricultural Revolution in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area. Two years after that action, Anambra State has almost realized the objective of becoming one of the Top-Three agricultural states in Nigeria. Anambra State has become an exporter of farm produce to Europe. The state has also flooded the market with a wholly indigenous brand of rice known as Anambra Rice which is competing favourably with other brands in the market. Gov. Willie Obiano has so far attracted $150m from Coscharis Farms Project in Anaku, $50m from NOVTEC Farms Ltd in Ndikelionwu, $160m from Joseph Agro Ltd rice project in Omor, $220m from Ekcel Farms tomato production farm in Omasi and $50m from the Songhai/Delfarms integrated organic farm project in Igbariam. There are also Grains & Silos with $40m investment in storage facilities, Lynden Farms with the $61m poultry farm in Igbariam and Tricity Integrated Farms with $11.4m ultra-modern abattoir in Awka. Indeed, the fire of agricultural revolution is raging in Anambra State. A visit to Igbariam or Anaku will validate this fact. Gov. Obiano’s Industrialization Drive In Anambra State: Gov. Willie Obiano’s industrialization drive is yielding result and has so far attracted over $140 million investment to the manufacturing sector. The objective of making Anambra State one of the top 3 industrialized states in Nigeria is meticulously being pursued by Gov. Willie Obiano through four key areas – Creation of Modern Industrial Parks and Small-to-medium Enterprise Clusters, Improved Investments and better Access to Financing and finally, Strategic Capacity Building. Sincerely, the future is very bright for Anambra State. Gov. Willie Obiano’s administration has also set precedence in the area of building critical alliances with foreign trade delegations. Trade Missions from Thailand, Ireland, the UK , the Consular General of the United States of America, delegation from the British Commonwealth Office in London have all visited Anambra State to explore possibilities of stronger bilateral relations. Gov. Willie Obiano has also held fruitful bilateral talks with South Africa, China, Germany, South Korea and the European Union, the bedrock of which is the total industrialization of the state. Gov. Willie Obiano’s Giant Strides In Trade & Commerce: Gov. Willie Obiano’s objective in Trade and Commerce is to move Anambra to the Top-3 states in Trade and Commerce in Nigeria. He is aggressively rehabilitating existing markets and building ultramodern shopping malls across the state. The construction of a $350 million wholesale shopping complex in Ogbunike in Oyi LGA is in progress which is the first of its kind in the whole of Africa. He has completed Onitsha Shopping Mall, a legacy project of his predecessor which will open for business this April. Gov. Obiano has also increased the pace of work on the Awka and Nnewi malls. He has successfully installed Close-Circuit TV Cameras (CCTV) in Onitsha Main Market and the 1st Phase of the 20,000-unit International Market at Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area valued at $75 million dollars is completed. Gov. Willie Obiano’s Achievements In Oil & Gas: The objective of Gov. Willie Obiano is to have a fully developed Oil & Gas sector by 2018 in Anambra State and he intends to achieve this through 3 broad areas of intervention – policy formulation & infrastructure development, private sector participation and community re-orientation. In the area of Policy Formulation. Gov. Willie Obiano has taken steps to ensure that the state do not make the same mistakes of her neighbours by crafting far-sighted policies and statutes to drive the development of this sector and has set up the Oil and Gas Advisory Committee headed by Dr. Emmanuel Egboga, the former Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Petroleum Matters to ensure the recognition of Anambra as the 10th Oil Producing State in Nigeria. To open up access to the oil fields in Aguleri, Gov. Willie Obiano has constructed a 42km road and a bridge across the Omambala River measuring 280 meters long which is the longest bridge in Anambra State. He is also building two other bridges to the oil fields through Umueje in Ayamelum and Umudiora in Anambra West Local Government Areas. Gov. Willie Obiano is partnering with UD Integrated Petroleum Production Development Company, UDIPPCO, and Falcon Corporation Limited to invest in the development of Anambra State gas-to-power initiative in the State. He has also signed a PPP arrangement with STANEL Petroleum for the construction of tank farms for the storage of petroleum products in the State. These investments will jumpstart the Industrialization of Anambra state, drive Agriculture and Trade & Commerce which are the key economic pillars of Gov. Willie Obiano’s Administration. Gov. Willie Obiano’s Administration Has Asphalted Over 102 Roads: Gov. Willie Obiano has kept his promise in the building and maintenance of roads and bridges in this state. The three flyovers in Awka speak eloquently of his ambition to transform Anambra with world class infrastructure. The nearly completed Arroma Bridge is not only a beauty to behold but a monument to the pride of our people. The two in Amawbia and Kwata are fast nearing completion. He has also built two bridges and a 5-Cell Culvert in Awgbu-Ndiukwuenu-Awa-Ufuma axis. And in just two years, Gov. Willie Obiano’s administration has asphalted over 102 roads. There is no single road he inherited from his predecessor that he abandoned. Gov. Willie Obiano has also made some appreciable progress on Agulu Lake Hotel Resort and the Three Arms Zone. The pace may not have been as he had hoped because of the economic meltdown in the country but he has not abandoned any projects in Anambra State. Not one! Education Is Receiving The Best Of Attention Under Gov. Willie Obiano : Gov. Willie Obiano’s achievements in the Education Sector has remained impressive in the past two years. This is so because Gov. Willie Obiano approached education in three broad areas – infrastructural development, pupils/students development, and teachers' welfare. Under Gov. Willie Obiano’s watch, Anambra State has maintained her enviable position in NECO and WAEC examinations. Anambra’s brilliant school children took the Third position at the World Schools Debate Championship in Singapore last year and are the current champions in the national Pre-basic Debate Competition. The same debate team defeated the debate team from 80-year old Katung Secondary School in Singapore in January this year. To crown Gov. Willie Obiano’ efforts, our own Rose Nkemdilim Obi won last year's national Teacher of the Year Award to underscore the silent revolution that is going on in the education sector. In terms of funding for schools, Gov. Willie Obiano’s administration has disbursed the sum of N733 million to mission schools, renovated 1000 units of 10-classroom blocks and awarded scholarships estimated at N30 million to over 200 students. More would have been done by his administration but for the bleak state of the economy. Health Sector Has Greatly Improved Under Gov. Willie Obiano: Gov. Willie Obiano has made progress in the Health Sector. Health being one of the Enablers is basic in Gov. Willie Obiano’s Four Pillars of Development. He has added new units to the Onitsha General Hospital and built a helipad for air ambulances for emergency cases. He has also built several blocks of houses that will serve as Isolation Units in cases of epidemics. The complex has been designated as the Centre for Tropical Disease Control. In addition, he is in partnership with the Rise Health Incorporation of America to strengthen rural health delivery in the state. The partnership gave birth to a specialist outfit known as the Anambra Business Coalition (ABC) through which the Orumba General Hospital has been refurbished and re-equipped to deliver a world class medical service to the people of Orumba North and South. The ABC has also set up an ultramodern Rise Clinic in Adazi Ani and Onitsha respectively to offer quality healthcare to the people. Ossamola General Hospital Ogbaru will be given a similar attention this year. Meanwhile, Gov. Willie Obiano has set machinery in motion to ensure the provision of a comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme for Ndi Anambra. |

PentiumPro:National Drug Law Enforcement Agency The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is a Federal agency in Nigeria charged with eliminating the growing, processing, manufacturing, selling, exporting, and trafficking of hard drugs. The agency was established by Decree Number 48 of January 1990. The NDLEA is present in international airports, seaports and border crossing. It tries to eradicate cannabis by destroying plantings. The NDLEA also targets the leaders of narcotics and money laundering organizations.[1] Drug cultivation Former Chairman of NDLEA, Alhaji Ahmadu Giade, described illicit drugs as "alien" to Nigeria. Cannabis, now locally grown in most states of the federation, was introduced to the country by foreigners. Ms Dagmar Thomas, the Country Representative of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), says Nigeria was one of the largest cannabis growers in Africa, with over 8% of the population abusing cannabis. Annual cannabis seizures increased from 126 metric tones in 2005 to 210 metric tones in 2007.[2] The NDLEA describes the South West region of Nigeria as one of the main centers of illicit drug production in the country. 196.5 acres (0.795 km2) of cannabis farmland was discovered and destroyed in the region in 2008.[3] In particular, Edo State has the highest rate of seizure of cannabis in the country.[4] In April 2009, the NDLEA confiscated 6.5 tones of marijuana from the home of a man in Ogun State who claimed to be 114 years old.[5] In September 2009 the NDLEA reported destroying a 24 hectare Cannabis Plantation in a forest reserve in Osun State. In January 2009, the NDLEA publicly burned 5,605.45 kilograms of drugs seized from traffickers in the historic town of Badagry, Lagos. The bonfire included 376.45 kilograms of cocaine, 71.46 kilograms of heroin and 5,157.56 tonnes of cannabis.[7] Drug trafficking The USA has donated full body scanning machines for the Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Port Harcourt international airports and has provided security training and orientation airport officers. The machines have proved effective in catching smugglers and couriers taking cocaine from Latin America to Europe by way of Nigeria. Between 2006 and June 2008 over 12,663 suspected drug dealers were arrested, with seizure of over 418.8 metric tonnes of various hard drugs.[8] For example, in July 2009 a woman about to board a KLM flight at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport was arrested by NDLEA officers and later excreted 42 wraps of cocaine, weighing 585 grams.[9] In September 2009, the NDLEA arrested a Guinean woman en route from Brazil to Europe with 6.350 kg of pure cocaine at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.[10] In 2008 Nigeria was certified by the United States of America in the anti-narcotic crusade, for the eight successive time. President George Bush said that Nigeria had made significant progress in counter narcotics and had effectively co-operated with the United States on drug-related and money laundering cases.[11] In Katsina State alone, one hundred people were convicted for drug offences from January to May 2008, and 358 people were arrested for drug offences in this period.[12] Drug Barons Speaking of efforts to go after the organizers of the trade, Ahmadu Giade, chairman/chief executive officer of NDLEA in 2008 said the agency had seized N270 million worth of shares from drug barons, as well as cars, houses and other property worth hundreds of millions of Naira.[11] After a September 2009 meeting with the head of the Nigerian Immigration Service to discuss exchange of biometric data of convicted drug barons and traffickers, Giade said cooperation between the agencies would help deny passports to convicted drug barons.[13] https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Drug_Law_Enforcement_Agency |
