He's sold boxing champ Floyd Mayweather 39 cars … and counting 'I don't know if a franchised dealer is willing to do what I do' Los Angeles exotic-car dealer Obi Okeke was sound asleep when his phone rang one morning at 3 a.m. last year. It was Floyd Mayweather. The undefeated welterweight champ had a mission for his trusted dealer: Have a Bugatti Veyron sitting in the driveway of his Las Vegas mansion in 12 hours. It was time for Dr. Bugatti, as Okeke is sometimes called, to perform a miracle. So Okeke jumped in the shower and headed to Fusion Luxury Motors, the Chatsworth, Calif., store he opened in 2012 and co-owns. He checked his notes, hopped on a plane, secured the car and drove it to Mayweather himself. And he did it in 11 hours. That’s life when you’re dealing with the spontaneous Mayweather, who, according to some reports, could rake in as much as $180 million this Saturday when he faces off with fellow superstar Manny Pacquiao. Okeke said there’s no room for mediocrity when dealing with Mayweather. The polarizing boxer has high expectations for himself, Okeke said, and therefore does for everyone around him. Okeke has sold 39 cars to Mayweather, including a $3.2 million Ferrari Enzo and three Bugatti Veyrons that are worth $6.2 million combined. In a career spanning nearly 30 years, Okeke has sold cars to the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jessica Simpson, Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Tucker and more. He started his career as a Chevrolet dealer in 1987 and eventually moved on to manage stores for Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, BMW, Ferrari and Maserati before he started his own. Okeke, 53, spoke with Automotive News about his life and Mayweather adventures. Q: Were you born in the U.S.? A: I was not. My father is from Nigeria; my mother is from Ohio. I was born in Nigeria. My parents have been married for 57 years. When I was a kid, Nigeria had a civil war, so we escaped from Nigeria as refugees [to Ohio], just my mom and the kids. Then we went back to Nigeria. My parents weren’t crazy about the school system. My mom’s best friend was in charge of Swissair for western Africa, so they shipped me off to Switzerland. When did you first meet Floyd? Back in 2008, 2009. I was general manager of a Ferrari dealership. A business associate brought him to the Ferrari dealership. That was the first time I met Floyd, and then I transacted on two Ferraris with him. http://www.autonews.com/article/20150429/RETAIL07/150429764?template=mobile |

The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has been lauded for the sparkling performance of Anambra children in National Examination Council (NECO) exams. Speaking during a courtesy visit on Governor Obiano at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Abdulrashid Garba applauded the State for recording almost 80% in 5 Credits including English Language and Mathematics in year 2015. “This is commendable sir, and that is the reason why I choose Anambra as my first port of call in my tour of states of the federation,” Prof. Garba revealed, further attributing the impressive performance of the state to the heavy investments that the state government makes in education. “I also want to appreciate you for the good relationship that your office has with NECO and to commend you for the great performance of Anambra State in NECO examinations which is largely because of the investment your government has been making in education,” the NECO Registrar observed and further revealed that since taking over the mantle of leadership of the examination body five months ago, his mission has been to guarantee credible examinations that can be accepted worldwide and to cement the relationship between NECO and various state governments in order to build confidence and cater for the Nigerian child. He also praised the governor for giving NECO a free plot of land to build its office in the state and commended Anambra for showing such a keen interest in NECO examinations. Recalling that the examinations body came into existence 16 years ago to help restore integrity to the nation’s examinations, Prof. Garba revealed that NECO has a slogan which emphasizes the importance of “doing the right thing for NECO’s integrity and doing the right thing for credible examinations.” In his response, Governor Obiano expressed happiness that Anambra has been consistent in churning out impressive results in national examinations in the past three years. According to him, “my administration has done quite a number of things in the past 18 months to ensure that Anambra continues to do well in all external examinations. First is the initiative to give teachers in the remote areas of the state a quarter of their salaries in addition to their basic salaries. This has stimulated a clamour among teachers to be posted to rural areas. In addition, if a teacher teaches sciences or Igbo, she gets a quarter more to encourage her,” Governor Obiano explained. He assured NECO of the support of his administration at all times. The highlight of the visit was the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the governor to underscore NECO’s acknowledgement of Anambra’s excellent performances and the governor’s robust investment in education http://metrowatchonline.com/neco-boss-applauds-obiano-over-anambras-performance-in-exams/ |

In an interview with P.M.NEWS in his palace at Ijebu Ode, the monarch, when reminded of his claim in 1983 that the Ijebus are from Waddai in Sudan, said every tribe in the country migrated from somewhere. Says Oba Adetona: “Let me tell you, there are ways of settlements, even before Oduduwa came to Ile-Ife, Ife was already in existence. All you just have to do is go to history books, you’ll see all these things there. Reminded that the statement is often used against the Ijebus with people regarding them as aliens, Awujale described such act as rubbish, saying “how can they use it against the Ijebus? Who is using it against them? What about others? Are they not from other areas before they settled here? Oba Adetona who marked his 76 birthday on 10 May, 2010 said no Nigerian has any right to use the source of migration against another as it is evident all over the world that everybody has his or her roots. In his royal message, the Awujale advised traditional rulers to steer clear of partisan politics as it is obvious that their subjects can never belong to the same political party and a royal father must not seen to be taking sides. He told P.M.NEWS that his memorable encounter with the first civilian governor of Ogun State, the late Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, in 1983 occupies a chapter in his book that will be launched tomorrow at the grand finale of his coronation anniversary at the Gateway International stadium, Ijebu-Ode. On the clash between him and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunabde Sijuade, Oba Adetona said: “Don’t forget, people try to say we have differences, no, not at all. I am the Awujale of Ijebuland, my instrument of office says so. Ooni is Ooni of Ile-Ife, the instrument of office given to him states so. “All the claims he is making now are not correct, they are not tenable. The first time the Obas ever met in Yorubaland was in 1937. Before then, they never met, so I think the man is playing politics, trying to over price himself, Awujale explained. Asked if they’ve both met of recent, the paramount ruler exclaimed: “Where and for what!? He stressed that they were not competing for anything and he has no cause to go to Ile-Ife just as Ooni has no mission in Ijebuland. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2010/06/25/ijebus-are-from-sudan-awujale-insists/ quote author=coolitempa post=40290667] Anioma has spoken.....itshekiris....urhobos.......obi of agbor.....Sunday oliseh.....all have spoken.....they are not ibos.....deal with it and carry go with your five erosion ravaged States.....
