jamela: Lol, I haven't had a bad experience but I remember once my brother was so excited about a girl he's been chatting with on hi5 and Myspace(back before facebook stole their subscribers). My mum had travelled, so he took my mum's car to go pick her up, he even took his friend he invited to the house earlier to tag along just so he could brag about it.
Only for him to return with his friend after about an hour, when I asked him where the girl was, he ignored me and just went into his room. His friend waited for him to be out of sight before laughing out loud, he told me the girl had "a face so rough that you could light a match stick with one strike". Lol! I haven't forgotten that phrase though its been almost 10 years now that happened. His friend said they changed plans and took her to an eatery instead of the house. At first, my brother wouldn't have any of the mockery, but later he became cool with it and even laughs about it when reminded. My God You are prettyyy |

bovamm: The mods made a mistake.
Euthanasia shouldn't be legalized in a country like Nigeria. Patients would be killed anyhow even if they have a chance at survival The patients themselves only will elect to continue to live or die. That's why its assisted suicide. Sufferers can usually do this even when their condition renders them completely paralysed. They may blink to show approval. |

I'm genuinely shocked that an intelligent issue like this is being discussed on nairaland. Euthanasia, mercy killing or assisted suicide is a thorny subject. This is because moral and religious sentiments outrightly frown upon the idea of somebody taking their own life which they did not create. However I'm not going to argue referencing any religious rule book. Life is sacred, there is no doubt about it but existence is not. Life at least to humans is marked by the ability of the living to pursue a goal, seek actualisation as well as amusement and enjoy all of the human experiences that make us human. If a human being exists as a plant, he or she cannot be said to be alive. If a person is confined to vegetative state, he or she cannot be said to be living. If a person has lost practically all the qualities that make them human, and they elect to discontinue that meaningless existence, isn't it justified? What use is there for living to a person who has been in coma for twenty thirty years, or someone who has been paralysed and cannot do anything but retain consciousness to suffer imprisonment in their own body. The truth is that those who want to deprive these kinds of people the right to live and even more strongly, the right to die are selfish. The kind of selfishness as when one loses property. The grief of loss is nothing to be compared to the pain of empty existence. This lack of understanding and empathy comes from the fact their inability to step into the shoes of the sufferer. The right to live also connotes a right to die. |

bigeagleeye: Usually the rapist is someone in a position of trust and knowing the stigma victims face from even relatives, it is not surprising that some victims choose to sweep rape under the rug, it is really unfortunate! Such is so prevalent and I think it carries a good percentage of rape cases, like even the one under review here! But in fairness, we still have other cases of inducement (unconscious most times) and seduction (conscious) from ladies who get carried away without counting the cost! Women/ladies some times send signal along routes that they don't intend tolling! (Maybe only men may get the picture of that better). But anyhow it is, RAPE by any man is a sign of weakness and penchant for wickedness! The inducement argument is a big one. Whether a woman by reason of how she dresses or behaves can invite rape. I personally think to be honest, this is true. A woman can make herself susceptible to rape by her own action. On the other hand if the argument is about what should be, then I strongly think that a woman should be free from rape and even sexual harassment regardless of what she wears or how she behaves. In some cases ive heard, the inducement justification was just plainly ridiculous. How can a 24 old rapist accuse a 13 yr old of seducing him? In any case, rape is despicable and any culprit should not be absolved of culpability because of any inducement if that inducement is not outright consent. |

fluffybaby: I know all these, how many rapists caught in the act have gotten this sentencing and howmany were encouraged by the police to settle out of court? I don't have info on numbers but I know several rapists are facing the music. Awareness is needed for victims to come out with their stories and employ the services of qualified female lawyers or women rights protection agencies to plead their case. Usually the rapist is someone in a position of trust and knowing the stigma victims face from even relatives, it is not surprising that some victims choose to sweep rape under the rug and our irresponsible police advise so. Most of the injustice with rape stems from the fact that are not reported |

True...the problems with my belief, my skepticism about God is that the Bible is filled with so many holes in its logic. The creation story, the Hebrew version contained in the Bible is no more true than the various myths of creation in practically every culture or civilisation. Noah's Ark is just plain unrealistic, its specifications and dimension would have made it snap and break to pieces, and then God's instruction to take two of every kind, two mosquitoes?? |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Israel Vice Premier Resigns - Details Will Shock You! by Flygeriansteve: 2:57pm On Dec 21, 2015 |
fluffybaby: In Nigeria, even if you have a video proof of the rape, they will NEVER resign. Instead they will build biger thrones and higher walls to show the masses that the position is theirs and so shall it remain. Besides rape does not count as a crime in Nigeria. The penalty is 6 months in jail or 50k compensation to the victims father (if its an underage person) in a regular court. While in a sharia court you get a new wife as reward for rape. If the victim is an unmarried female. If the victim doesnt agree then she gets the cane while the good people of Nigeria blame her for allowing a man rape her and the idiots of Nairaland will say she enjoyed it. Nigeria law is friends with rapists. You are wrong. Section 358 of the Criminal Code Act prescribes a punishment of imprisonment for life, with or without caning for rapists upon conviction. The main challenge is that the definition of rape implies unlawful carnal knowledge of a woman, without her consent... It is usually hard to prove that there was no consent esp where the rapist is in a sexual relationship such as marriage etc with the raped. Thus the victim is put on the spot and asked to prove that she did not consent; why she may not have screamed, whether she leads a promiscuous life, coupled with the pervasive albeit erroneous belief that when a woman says no, she may actually mean yes. Notwithstanding, the max sentence for rape is imprisonment for life. |
