TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 6 by foohard: 2:15am On Dec 31, 2014
This is just a bitter truth. Exactly what I have noticed here in Chicago. Indians and Chinese get jobs easily because of their network while it is difficlt for Nigerians.

imperiouxx:
I was never a minister but I'm only trying to help others in a way I could like every other races in the US.

The Indians and Chinese will always stay ahead of the Nigerians in the US.

They don't joke with the simplest information they gathered from one another and they listen attentively to those who have been in the system. This makes life easier for them but the Nigerians are scatter everywhere with different kind of predicaments.

The US visa is like an invitation to the river to fish, it doesn't teach how to set hook and line and start fishing.

You only learn how to fish better either by looking at others doing it or listening to others who have done it.

Surviving in the US goes beyond obtaining that ordinary visa..... It's people...... the right set of people.

JFdENIGMA: You are all aware that a person’s overall profile is what they reviewed as a total package when you do your application in. This is my little token contribution on research angle of admission to this wonderful thread. At first, I thought it will be going for just a few. I mean with bias for PhD prospective. But after second thought, I have found out that it will do almost everyone good as every faculty somehow have a serious thing for research- they think, say, breath and eat it! It is everything to almost every one of them. So, it is not difficult for you to see a measure of obsession with research in these Professors. Come to think of it, Universities cum Professors are awarded huge sum of money by Government, private bodies and individuals largely for this purpose. They push to make their system research driven as much as possible. I am aware that for undergraduates it is not so important in gaining admission. Well, in the long run it is good for all.
Thanks for the advise

It is something you will never regret.. Once you know programming, you are hotcake in the US.

I wish i have the skill.. You know what, i am just gonna finish this course then go and learn programming proper in a college. I just couldn't find interest in it but to survive as a computer scientist, I need it so much.

imperiouxx: So surprising. Their funding is on higher side and research is extensive. I'm trying since application fee is not required. wink
Yes boss, they have got so much funding.. My program director was even toasting me that they need tutors for Spring, they pay 7k for 9 months and pay for 6 units course which is worth appro $6k..

Even at masters level, they are willing to pay for thesis if you get something good to work on. Overall, It is an interesting school.

imperiouxx: You know why I believe the bold. Before deadline, they were dragging issue of WES evaluation of ordinary BS degree with me angry angry They said they only take evaluation from ECE. Then I wrote them that I'm stopping my application.

After the deadline, I got an email asking if I said I'm doing my MS in US already. So I replied yes. Then I was told to submit the US certificate that everything related to undergrad will be dropped and I should write the head of pharm if I can still apply. The head said I should complete my application....lols....yeye grin
For sure, I try so much not to say what I don't know Sir..

imperiouxx: Thank you sir. It's Ph.D in Pharmacology. I was trying to know about ECE evaluation and admission related issues then but later got mail from the admission office saying if I can submit my US certificate, everything about evaluation will be waived but by then the deadline was already over. Though the departmental head said I should still submit a complete application. So, I'm about trying my luck when schools resume next week.
Pls try your luck.. Admission is a bit easy in my school since it is private and receive less amount of application compare to public schools.. I like my experience so far in the school.. Well respected in Chicago, I hear everyday like when I show my student ID for any purpose, "Niggaz be like, You go to LOYOLA? Mehn thats a very good school... u must be rich grin"

Oh.. you trying to apply to my school? Pls do ... it is good thing that no application fee is required. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help, even if it require meeting with professor on your behalf.

I assume it's Ph.D and what department are you looking at Sir?

TravelRe: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by foohard: 2:26pm On Oct 17, 2013
VisaOfficer: Hmmmmmm it would depend what the circumstances are. First and foremost, tell her not to give anyone any money just yet. On what basis would she be applying for permanent residence?
Exactly what we don't understand. She want to live in USA and the person said she can apply for PR cos she has spent four years. We ask that on what basis and the person was like it is a normal thing if you feel like living in the USA and you have stayed legally for four years, you can apply for permanent residence.

Could you please tell us possibilities because she's really interested in staying if it is possible truly.

Thank you so much

OjaP: You're most welcome. God bless you too.
Sorry, I forgot to ask. Who is suppose to do the filing, me or my wife?

Thanks.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by foohard: 8:17pm On Oct 16, 2013
OjaP: Now, you need to file forms I-485 (Application to adjust status), I-1765 (Application for employment eligibility) and if you want to travel in between, form I-131 (Advanced parole). When submitting these, do not forget to include form I-797(Notice of action that your I-130 was approved).

You shouldn't spend more than $2k to file. This includes payment to a surgeon for the compulsory medical examinations. I would advise you not to use a lawyer since your case is straight forward. All supporting documents needed to proof legit marriage can be found on the USCIS website.

All things being equal, you should expect to be a LPR between 3-6 months of filing. All the best.
Thanks boss. God bless you

Hello house,

Quite a long time. Trying to understand the system. Wish you all NL members the best.

Does anyone know the process of changing to permanent resident from an F1 VISA, the cost and how long it takes to get the green card. My wife filed I-130 for me in march and was approved in August 2013, before I travelled with an F1 VISA.

Thank you all as I await your response.

Again, wish you all the best.
