TravelRe: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by foohard: 7:15am On Oct 16, 2013
Hello VISA Officer,

Thank you so much for your guidance. Kindly help me with a situation.

My friend has been in the USA for four years schooling and on an F1 VISA. Now, someone told her she can apply for permanent residence in the USA.. Please, how true is this because I don't want her to get duped.

Again, thank you as I await your prompt response.

Kind regards.

VisaOfficer: Greetings! Do I recall correctly that your wife is the one who filed for you? If so, and if your wife is an LPR and filed before September 8, 2013, or if she's an American citizen, your case is current.
You are right. My wife filed for me on 8th of March 2013.

Does that mean I can proceed to file for i-485 and how long does it take to get the green card.
TravelRe: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by foohard: 2:40am On Oct 04, 2013
VisaOfficer: You should file form I-485 to adjust your status while in the U.S. Here's the information from USCIS:

The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) permits the change of an individual's immigration status while in the United States from nonimmigrant or parolee (temporary) to immigrant (permanent) if the individual was inspected and admitted or paroled into the United States and is able to meet all required qualifications for a green card (permanent residence) in a particular category. The common term for a change to permanent status is “adjustment of status.”

Depending on the category you wish to adjust under, you may be eligible to have the petition filed at the same time that you file your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status. This is called “concurrent filing.” Immediate relatives of a U.S. citizen may be able to file concurrently. Also, other certain classes of individuals who have a visa immediately available may be able to file concurrently. Most categories, however, require that you first establish your eligibility for the immigrant category by having an approved petition before you are allowed to file Form I-485, for these categories you will not be able to file concurrently.

For more information on concurrent filing, see our Concurrent Filing page. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=32d80a5659083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=32d80a5659083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD
Hello Visa Officer,

Please how do I know if VISA number is available for my priority date because I dont understand the VISA bulletins have read.
My priority date is March 08, 2013.

Could you please help me check so I can file for Adjustment of Status.

Thank you so much.

TravelRe: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by foohard: 2:24pm On Sep 24, 2013
VisaOfficer: You can find their contact information at www.uscis.gov -- I would call them directly and ask what the status of your I-130 is.
They already notify my wife that the I-130 has been approved and that it's has been forwarded to National VISA center for further processing, National Visa Center e-mailed my wife last week that I should complete DS-261 which I think is irrelevant since I am already in the USA.

So, what should I then do? Thank you for your guidance.
TravelRe: I Am A U.S. Consular Officer: Ask Me Your Visa Questions. by foohard: 9:25am On Sep 24, 2013
VisaOfficer: Is that an F1 student visa or an F1 "unmarried child of an American citizen" visa? If it's a student visa, you'll have no problem. Please contact USCIS for information about adjustment of status -- www.uscis.gov .

If it's an F1 "unmarried child" visa and you have a wife, you may have trouble adjusting status, as you should not have traveled on that visa.

Good luck!
It's student VISA... I wrote I-130 immediate I got to USA and still haven't heard from them. What next can I do to contact them?

Thank you for your prompt response

Walecrsyler: Pls house respond to my earlier post . I'm expecting. God bless you as you do. Thanks
Since you have admission already, I don't think the school should be a public cos it's a public school. Did u write any standardized test? If yes, hope u ace it the test(s) ... If yes, then the VO may not remember to even check your first degree ...

Don't really know what you are referring to as other documents but going with all your documents is advised so u can easily provide them if the VO ask perchance.

JFdENIGMA: I feel I owe this house a beef, sorry, I mean a brief after receiving my GRE score.

GRE: 309(Q155, V154) AW:3.5. I prepared leisurely for it like three weeks. My 1st Power Prep try before preparation was like 300-303
I intend applying to:

1MIT*
2CalTech*
3Yale
4T Austin
5TAMU
6MSU
7LSU
8. MI(UAE)

I sent my scores to 4, 5,6,7 on test day. For 1 & 2 I think I made mistake in my approach when I contacted them so I may take out 2. I may add Houstein in, I may also apply to University of Edinburg and Toronto depending . All things remaining as they should I will complete my application before the end of this coming week.

To add to what recent and past test takers in this house and in the old thread on GRE Preparation have been saying about materials. I will only like to add that your also consider RS Argawal quantitative material. I was opportune to use it for a day or two. It will help

Last: Schools that evaluate transcript themselves any clue on the method they use if they USE WES. I mean will it b favourable.

THANKS HOUSE!!
@samnoah... Hope you got the bolded.

imperiouxx: I usually sign for emailed package (guess it's cheaper than the regular mail) before submitting the application online. From your inbox, you can print out your insurance number. I don't think you really need any card, just go with the print number and you'd be fine.
Ok... Thanks bros...

I'm buying it now, would you recommend I buy for 3 months which is just for fall or for a year to cover this academic year?

Hello,

I am seriously pissed with Airfrance, I think people on NL should avoid them. To start with, they change boarding site and could not announce in english, they were just speaking french forgetting we that will connect flight from there. At last, one of them used his head and announced in English but seriously, I almost missed my flight and i didnt have no kobo with me.

Secondly, they are fond of not calling flight/stops (B/stop).. I wasn't angry until I said they should drop me when we got to Ottawa that I wanna say hi to my best friend, they refused and I didnt complain.

Thirdly, we got to Milwaukee, I told them to drop me that I need to advise ECE cos WES has snatched all their customers because they have better evaluation method, them still no gree. Na so I meet myself for O'Hare Int. Airpot with my wife waiting.

To cut the long story short aha, I'm now in Obama Land.. Wish all that are still working on VISA best of luck and wish all Nairalanders best of luck in our endeavors.

Thank you all for you have always been there..

herawesomeness: Hello house, should have posted this on monday, but I've been a lil busy, I apologize. smiley

VO: good morning
me: good morning ma (picked up the telephone, dont want ppl nosing in my business, lol, plus I'm a bit shy wink )
VO: It says here that your going to study (documents were already in their possession since I submitted it as soon as I came in)
me: yes ma
VO: where is your institution located in the US? (its a private institution)
me: The institution is located in san bernandino county, in california
VO: ok, why did you select this university?
me: Well, when I was searching for institutions offering the program, I had to select based on the contents of the curriculum if they contained the core components of what the degree was all about (mentioned 2 components), and I found that of all the institutions accredited to offer this program, this was the only institution that was offering the program to international professionals who do not have a US license to practice (its a health profession), so coupled with the fact that they had a very comprehensive curriculum and also the fact that its a christian institution with super high moral standards, it was just a win-win situation all round for me to select this university (note: this was the only institution I applied to, because I was not eligible to apply to any other institution due to the license clause)
VO: (seemed like she was trying to comprehend the information I just downloaded and was waiting to hear more explanation, but had to proceed with the interview) Ok, so where did you obtain your bachelor's and master's degree from?
me: I obtained my bachelor's degree from the university of lagos, and this program is actually a combination of masters and doctorate
VO: oh ok. so, have you ever travelled out of the country before?
me: Well, I was born in the UK, I dunno if that counts?
VO: (laughs and says something I didn't hear)
me: Then I was taken again to the UK at the age of 3, but since then, I haven't really had the opportunity or reason to be out of the country....until now of course (Big francis said, just "no" is not always a good answer)
VO: Ok, so who will be sponsoring your education?
me: Apart from the graduate assistantship I got from the school, my elder brother will be sponsoring me, and my dad and my uncle will also be supporting me, if the need arises.
VO: ok, uhm.. (taps fingers on the table, and seems to be trying to remember what other questions she's supposed to be asking, I guess the Holy Spirit must have ministered to her saying "that's enough, give her this visa let her go abeg"...lol, cos I kept staring into her eyes the whole time it looked like she was trying to quickly make a decision)...
VO: Pick up your visa at apapa...blah blah blah (passes the white paper)
me: (smiles) Thank you very much ma. grin grin grin

No documents requested (me wey don arrange documents with tags sef for easy access..lol)... That was just the hand of God!!!
Congrats!!!

Hello house,

My hands are so heavy with vaccines, was told I still need to get more.. They are just giving me even the ones that my school neither require nor recommended. I still have not got anything to show as proof that i actually got those vaccines apart from my hospital card.. what can i do?
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by foohard: 5:56pm On Aug 26, 2013
winbyforce: Please take the vaccines if u haven't taken them before. Its cheap and beneficial. Once vaccinated, you'll be given d documentation needed
ok... Will do that. Thanks.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by foohard: 3:33pm On Aug 26, 2013
winbyforce: What vaccines do u wanna take? Is it Jaja clinic u went to or UCH?
Just giving notes to say u're Ok is insufficient.UCH would have all d vaccines u need.
Just as I thought.

I went to Jaja bro, do I need to take any vaccine or should just get note that I'm ok. I still need a document to show the school you know?

Hello House,

I went to University of Ibadan hospital to get the required vaccines for my school. The nurses where telling to go and buy some vaccines from chemist outside. Is that what is required? They were like they have some they would give me but I have to buy some outside.

Is that how it is done? because me was thinking they would run some test on me and give me a note to show the school that I am ok bla bla bla...

Please throw some light on this..
