Its not just absurd but also an aberation, what technicalities are you talking about bearing in mind any conflict between the US and Iran won't go beyond the Western Asia !!!
The Russians and the Chinese are the only adversaries that can take any conflicts to the US home soil.

Any full scale conflicts between Iran and the US would be felt even in a city like Yadz ( one of the most remote cities in Iran ) and civilians would be the one to pay the price.
The US obviously cherry picks it's conflicts and never picks to face off with near peer adversaries that can attack mainland US, sadly Iran is not one.

LordAdam16:
they keep thinking everyone will confront them on their terms

they walked into afghanistan thinking the taliban will confront them with tanks and an air force
air force ke
who dash monkey banana?

the us has not fought a foe like iran since maybe korea
that's 70 years ago

vietnam wishes it had a proxy network that could set all of asia on fire if attacked
saddam wishes he could shut down 20% of global oil flow
afghanistan wishes it could hit any point in the middle east with hypersonics

in 1991, before desert storm, saddam sent most of his airforce to iran to avoid being destroyed by us coalition forces
iran did not return them before the 2003 invasion
they returned them after they'd made iraq a vassal and it was time to confront isis

let me repeat that, saddam deliberately dispatched his air force to a neighboring country to avoid destruction
he had no satellites, virtually no AWACS platform
he did not know where the us was going to attack from
which planes they'd use
and he had no means to attack any us base

he and his entire military were sitting ducks
and the us still had to bribe the generals to stand down to avoid a war of attrition

that is the archetype of war between a great power and an inferior foe
even the foe knows all hope is lost

in venezuela, the us parked the ford within 300 miles of venezuela
they shut down venezuelan airspace and conducted hundreds of flight over venezuela weekly
and nearly all of the us carriers were at home merely hundreds of miles away except the lincoln that was patrolling the south china sea at the time

these 🤡🤡 sent the lincoln carrier to the persian gulf then withdrew it to the indian ocean
more than 1000 miles away so that it would be out of iran's short range missiles
and then the politicos decided to send the HW Bush to join the lincoln
but the pentagon vetoed it
the HW Bush is still near the us

instead they're sending the ford to israel for defense

that only happens with a peer or near-peer power

the lincoln is alone with its 3 destroyers at the mercy of admiral irani

10 hypersonics and a drone swarm and it's goodbye to 5000 sailors
the pentagon knows this
but they can't withdraw it because they're already committed
and they hope that if their plan a works in suppressing the iranians, then they wouldn't have to worry
still, they definitely are not sending more on definite suicide mission

against iraq, afghanistan, vietnam they were bringing troops and assets closer
against iran, they're keeping the bulk of them at least 1000 miles away

you do that only against peer and near-peer powers

for those in the back
the us has two unarguable peers
russia, china. india is an arguable peer. maybe even france, but the strategic depth of france is sus.

the near-peer category is where you find the likes of iran, germany, uk, italy, turkey, japan, south korea, pakistan
none of them can fight that far away from home
but on their home turf, anyone who comes will be bloodied
anyone

there is a reason why i am saying iran should go all out from day 1 and not adopt proportionality
it should not look at the ukraine war and try some type of smo

that does not play to their advantages
total war is the only play here
use every card

worse case scenario, a million people die
that would die anyway in the chaos that'd follow a regime collapse
but as in vietnam, afghanistan
go all out, sustain the damage, and there'll be no new wars for half a century

-Lord
Well said. I don't blame him entirely though. It sure sounds absurd to call Iran a near-peer of USA if you don't understand the technicalities of the word. I think it was last year or so that I first saw someone categorize Iran that way in relation to the USA. It didn't make sense until he explained it in almost the same way you've just done. Conventionally speaking, USA is miles and miles ahead of Iran.

But Iran's vast assymetric capabilities and regional dominance makes it a near-peer, no matter how wrong that sounds to your ear.

Hmmmmmmm

I don't think Iran can survive this fight honestly.
Aerial bombing, ground invasion, internal sabotage all at once.
They really mean this regime change.
Unfortunately, the Iranian backers can't be relied on.
And there has been series of events that the hegemon had done that has sent a clear message to the onlookers.
No reasonable leader will want his country to turn to Libya, syria, Venezuela, Cuba, iran, Yemen or North Korea presently.
No leader will want to be used as a scape goat like saddam Hussein that was grabbed, hung and buried deep in the sea nor Gaddafi that was dragged behind a car, raped before killed nor Maduro who was picked like a farmer and in jail.
These actions speaks volume without any deterrence nor blow backs.
Iran will take the most damage. Thousands of their civilians will die, but it's going to take luck for USA to achieve anything there. Iran is a natural fortress with underground bases scattered hundreds of miles apart. Some of these bases are over 500 meters under hardened rock, so it would require not one, not two, but several specialized bunker busters to put out of commission. Guess how many of such bunker busters USA has, and take into account that some of them would not explode grin

Israel despite all their aerial advantage couldn't prevent Hamas from launching rockets years after they'd started bombing them. A US carrier had to evade Houthi missiles several times despite the air jets and ships guarding it. Iran with all their mobile launchers, missile cities, secret launch silos, underground sea bases, decent air defense systems, drones, etc would have little challenge punishing USA in more ways than it has ever experienced.

Remember, they do not need to completely pummel USA to win the war. They just need to make the campaign too costly for Trump. Damage several ships, attack oil industries in the region, Mine the Strait of Hermuz, and give us a Boom Boom Tel Aviv sequel. The US on the other hand would need months of intense militaty campaign because killing the Ayatollah is not enough. They have to take out the IRGC.

The ground invasion (if you can call it that) is likely to be a total failure if recent events are to go by.

They're more likely to hook themselves in another quagmire than to achieve what they want there. Israel would be the only winner in this because Iran would be weakened no matter how it goes.

why is the us evacuating its bases in qatar and bahrain?

admit to keeping its carrier as far away from iran
and refusing to send a second carrier to the persian gulf

this war will teach many of you the difference between hollywood and reality

-Lord
They've refused to understand that Iran will not be fighting a symmetrical war with the US and Iran only needs to inflict some damage to US ships to nuke Trump's presidency

As to any deal between Iran and the U.S., I hope it can meet our national security objectives and the needs of the people of Iran through diplomacy.

Given Iran’s behavior regarding deals, it could be a tough sell.

However, I am open minded, understanding any agreement with the Islamic Republic and the United States must come to Congress for review and a vote.

I agree with your opinion concerning Iran, but I dont think they're unserious to that extent. The bomb by itself would be useless to Iran because they lack the means to drop them against formidable countries. The fact that they waited this long to reveal it can only mean one thing: they're passing a message to the United States.

I blame Iran for entertaining the idea of a serious negotiation with America. This is exactly what they did in the previous talks. They'd wait until they're about to reach consensus before bringing up more ridiculous demands that'd crash everything back to square one. The US under Donald Trump would never do what Israel opposes

If Iran cannot launch a preemptive strike, they should immediately do what they can to turn their enriched uranium into nuclear warheads.

As in, there's a reason even radio stations interact with their listeners. I've been very busy lately but Im always looking forward to reading comments from you, Adam, Mikasa, Okpansukka, and many others here. What differentiates this thread from a News site if all we did was read updates and go?

The amount of wars that have been fought and won one this thread is astronomical. grin grin

People start wars here, fight them here, declare victory here and celebrate here. cheesy cheesy. In fact, some people here know more than the US, Israeli, Iranian, Chinese and Russian governments combined. Some of the ideas and predictions outlined here didn't even cross the mind of the decision makers in any of those countries above.

Armchair analysts on this thread even know world leaders personally 😅😅😆😆 . They know the private life of Trump and Khamenei and can predict their actions several steps ahead. Not surprised anyway .

This thread should be renamed "Emotional Tantrums Analysis" . 😁😁😂😂
What you're mocking can be found on every platform, including the ones that are up to your larger-than-life standards. Go to Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, CNN, Fox News, Pierce Morgan's page, Tucker Carlson's page, etc you'll still be met with people dropping predictions and analysis based on available information and history. And yes, a certain degree of bias factors into every analysis you can possibly come across.

That said, nobody is preventing you from dropping your own. If you can't do that, don't try to crap on those who have the courage to do so.

If I'm the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei I will order a Pre-emptive strike. No need to wait for the Zionist and their backers to finish all their internal sabotage/espionage mission.
There are so many proxy groups he can use, Hezbollah, Houthis or the Iraqi if he doesn't want to do it directly from Iranian territory/airspace.

Just escalate and bring chaos and confusion to their plan. The Zionist and her backers, their military doctrine depends much on element of surprise, shock & awe. Once they have the right intelligence and conditions they will strike with maximum speed and intensity. No need to wait for them or been reactive, take the initiative.
I suspect they're just trying to setup a blockade against Iran, maybe to deprive China of cheap oil.Trump in his infinite stupidity might be underrating Iran's willingness to close the Strait of Hermuz in response.
