.The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Adams Oshiomhole, on Monday said the Supreme Court has imposed “strangers” on the people of Zamfara with its judgment of Friday. The former President of Nigerian Labour Congress said the judgment did not give justice to the people but was rather based on technicality. Oshiomhole stated this in Abuja while answering questions from journalists after the APC National Working Committee meeting. https://punchng.com/supreme-court-has-imposed-strangers-on-zamfara-people-oshiomhole-laments/ NEWS INEC issues Certificate of Return to Zamfara Gov-elect, Bello Matawalle Published Friday Olokor, Abuja Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Yakubu Mahmood, has issued Certificate of Return to Zamfara State Governor-elect, Bello Matawalle; his deputy, Mahdi Aliyu Gusau; and members of the National Assembly-elect, following the Supreme Court judgment which declared candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party winners of the elections held in Zamfara State. At the event which took place at the Electoral Institute and attended by over 500 political allies, Matawalle commended President Muhammadu Buhari for refusing to interfere in the legal issues of the All Progressives Congress which culminated in the PDP victory. On his own, INEC chairman Yakubu said, “I want to reiterate the importance of conducting proper primaries before elections in order to reduce the spate of litigation associated with them. “At the moment, there are 809 pre-election cases pending in various courts across the country, challenging the conduct of primaries by political parties for the 2019 general elections. “This is clearly more than the total number of petitions currently before the various election petition tribunals nationwide challenging the outcome of the main elections. “In our last update, the Commission reported that 25 certificates of return had been withdrawn and issued to persons declared winners by courts of law. “Since then, three more certificates have been withdrawn by court order. With the Zamfara case, the figure has now risen to 64. “In addition, the Commission is studying nine more judgement we were served in the last one week in which primary elections conducted by different political parties were upturned by the courts.” The INEC chairman said the Zamfara example was not the first pre-election case determined by the Supreme Court arising from the recent party primaries. He said, “Earlier, the apex court had determined the case of Lere Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, which the Commission had already complied with and issued the Certificate of Return to the winner. “It is therefore important to continue to emphasise to our political parties their obligation to conduct credible primaries for the nomination of candidates.”

.Popular Katsina-based Islamic cleric, Mallam Aminu Usman, popularly called “Abu Ammar”, who was recently detained and released by the Department of State Services (DSS), has vowed not to stop criticising the Buhari government. According to him, preachings to political leaders to offer good leadership are mandated by the Holy Quran and Prophetic traditions of Islam. In an audio of his preaching after his release obtained by PRNigeria on Sunday, the cleric said traditional rulers and religious leaders should have the courage to speak the truth to power. While giving glory to Almighty Allah for protecting him while at the DSS facility, Sheikh Abu Ammar, thanked Muslims and other Nigerians who offered ceaseless prayers for his safety. He disclosed that he was arrested and interrogated just because he appealed to government to do the necessary thing, which is to provide maximum security for the poor masses of Katsina who have been at the mercy of bandits and kidnappers. “There is no point discussing the ordeal DSS made me pass through. But, Alhamdulillah I have been reunited with my family and the Muslim Ummah. And I have vowed not to keep mute in the face of injustice, poor governance and tyranny of our leaders. “The problems and agonies of the people of Batsari, Safana, Dan Musa, Kankara, Sabuwa, Faskari, Jibia, Batagarawa, Mani, Daura and even the Katsina Local Government Area itself, are also my problems. “I will speak about their plights, even if I will be incarcerated a million times. I will speak truth to power, even at the detriment of my life. As such, I am urging my fellow Muslim preachers to remain steadfast and have faith in Allah. “They should not relent in admonishing our leaders and those in authorities to do the right thing and what are expected of them,” he said. https://dailypost.ng/2019/05/26/wont-stop-criticising-buhari-govt-katsina-cleric-abu-ammar-explodes-dss-arrest/

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI has destroyed bandits’ camp and neutralised dozens of bandits in air strikes it conducted at Doumbourou forest in Zamfara. Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, who announced this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said the operation was conducted on Saturday. ”The operation was executed yesterday, May 25, pursuant to human intelligence (HUMINT) reports indicating that some locations within the forest were being used by the bandits as hideouts, including a group of huts belonging to a notorious kingpin named ‘Dangote’. “Accordingly, following confirmatory Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), an Alpha Jet aircraft was detailed to attack the bandits’ camp leading to the destruction of their structures and neutralisation of close to two dozen bandits,” he said. Daramola added that the NAF, working in consonance with other security agencies, would sustain its operations to flush bandits out of the North-West of the country.

According to him, Senator Lawan (Yobe North) already has 51 endorsement signatures from 66 senators-elect on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC. Fatai Buhari, while responding to questions from journalists in Ibadan, said: “51 out of the 66 Senators elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress have signed an endorsement list and pledged to vote for Senator Lawan.” Similarly, the House of Representatives-elect for Ibadan North federal constituency, Hon. Musiliudeen Akinremi, said Femi Gbajabiamila, at the moment, has enough support to emerge as the next Speaker of the Green Chamber of the federal legislature. Akinremi told journalists yesterday after a political meeting in his house with Southwest House of Representative members-elect: “We have 191 members as of today backing Gbajabiamila. As the Southwest coordinator of the new Reps-elect in the zone, this number is even beyond APC Reps as we have supporters across political divides. “We will keep talking to our colleagues from across the six geopolitical zones. Write it down, Gbajabiamila may emerge unopposed. We are sure of well over 200 members’ support when the house convene on June 11. “For us, the ninth National Assembly should go beyond party affiliation but the need to have qualified, experienced and highly cerebral lawmaker in the person of Gbajabiamila in office as speaker to work with the executive and judiciary to effect positive changes in the nation’s body polity.” https://dailypost.ng/2019/05/26/lawan-will-become-next-senate-president-buhari/
