TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by forevermine: 10:15am On Oct 27, 2014
Hello everyone. So i'll start by saying this thread is one of the best on NL. Kudos to the forerunners and all those presently keeping it alive. Not a day passes by without me peeping in.
I'm not really new on the thread. My first post was sometime in August last year. Made plans to travel but lost the pregnancy in 1st trimester. God has been merciful to me and now I'm pregnant again. I've set the ball rolling for my plans to have my babies in US next year. I have a jotter with info I kept since last year, but pls from time to time I may ask for some clarification.
May God honor the desires of our hearts and be with you all. Cheers!

FoodRe: The Secret Of Losing The Sour Taste In The Tomato Stew by forevermine: 8:43am On Aug 06, 2014
mayblossom: @mayblossom, you sabi! You said it just as it should be. And this is my mama's exact procedure. It doesn't fail...
Exactly!! Fry the tomato well well until it´s done. How do you know you´ve fried it enough? Lift some quantity with your frying spoon. You´ll notice that even in the spoon, the tomato will continue frying (showing heat bubbles) for a few seconds before it stops. Then you´re good to go. Go ahead and add your meat stock and enjoy your tasty stew.My grandma taught me this, so it has been working since like forever. But the ish is that you can´t leave the kitchen o. You have to stay there and continue stirring the tomato while frying to avoid getting burnt and turning black or darker than you like. It takes time and requires patience.

One secret though...you can reduce the water content by boiling the tomato immediately after blending it. When it gets very thick and almost without water(same thickness as tin tomato), then you can start frying. The boiling reduces frying time, thereby reducing the time you get to spend in the kitchen cos while boiling, you don´t need to stir it, just monitor with your eyes.

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by forevermine: 7:13pm On Oct 09, 2013
Sorry about that, can only imagine that it must've been a horrid experience.
tteam: hi house
good to know everyone is doing great.
i traveled to Houston on the 5t of October ad wast let in.
Even after showing my payments to west Houston and declaring how much i had.
Their reason was that i lied i was not pregnant during my visa interview.
had the most horrifying experience ever.
i am back in Nigeria now, thank God i and baby are safe.
apart fro me, two other 9ja ladies were set back too.

learning point: state preg stats when applying for visa, if u already have a visa then by all means avoid Houston. there are devils there searching out for black preg women.
wishing everyone goodluck wit their plans
TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by forevermine: 7:05pm On Oct 09, 2013
Thanks a lot for ur response. Came in really handy...
Whole79: You don't need to change your current passport to the one that bears your husband's name. All you need to do is always provide proof of marriage which is your marriage certificate. However, you may want to change your name once the current passport expires. As per your baby's document, you'll only need you maiden name to do that. So nothing to be afraid of. You are good to go.

TravelRe: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedure? by forevermine: 8:05pm On Oct 07, 2013
Hello house. Pls I have an enquiry to make and it's kinda urgent, so I'd appreciateany useful response, especially from anyone who's had a similar experience. Pls is it necessary to change my maiden name(surname) to my husbands , on my international passport? Does this mean I will be issued a new passport entirely or js a modification of the datapage of my current passprt( as I have evidence of travels on my current passport, though there's no valid visa). If I do,Will this affect my visa application(eg it may nt correspond wt d name on my bank statement, if I'm using mine) .also wen applying for the baby's passport in usa, will bearing my maiden name(in d event that I dnt change d passport) affect this? Pls I need clarification on what to do pertaining this situation. Thanks a bunch.
TravelRe: How We Survived The Plance Crash, By Feyi Agagu by forevermine: 4:18pm On Oct 06, 2013
First to comment! Thank God for sparing his life. It's a miracle surviving a plane crash.
Skyblings: A close family friend of Feyi, son of late Chief Agagu, who is one of the survivors of the ill fated Associated Airlines flight, told Vanguard that he (Feyi) was initially reluctant to enter the plane after seeing how old it looked. (The exact plane pictured right). He and others survived basically by sitting at the back of the plane. Below is what a family insider Feyi spoke to said;

“The young man said that once they got to the tarmac before boarding and once he sighted the plane, what struck him was the seemingly very old look of the plane. Feyi said he didn’t like the looks of the plane. He also said but for the importance and significance of the trip, his inner sense didn’t feel comfortable boarding the plane.

"In fact, Feyi said he told another survivor, Femi Akinsanya, that the plane looked too old and he didn’t feel like boarding. But Feyi said he was told not to get himself worked up needlessly since this was not going to be his first time aboard a plane neither would this be the first old-looking plane that he would board. That was how he said he boarded the plane”.

“Feyi recounted how he and Femi Akinsanya boarded the plane and moved straight to the back end to take up seats. Why Feyi chose the back seat”, the source said, “was more a function of his state of mind about the state of the plane rather than a preference for taking a back seat.

Hi. Please I've got an enquiry for MIHS. Do they accept test results from one's home country? If not, is it already embedded in the hospital fee, or totally seperate from it? Thanks....

HealthRe: Nation Wide Strike By Resident Doctors From 1st October by forevermine: 7:06pm On Sep 30, 2013
I think you've said it all. The saying-'only those who wear the shoes know where it hurts' aptly applies in this circumstance.
atise: I have taken time to patiently read all the comments on the above topic

At the end of it all, I can broadly divide the various comments into broad groups:-

1. Those who address the issue squarely and are pro-doctors
2. Those who address the issue also, but are anti-doctors
3. Those who completely deviate off topic to comment on their experiences in the hands of Nigerian doctors or in a Nigerian hospital
4. Those who have come to the topic to vent some unfathomable hatred for the Nigerian doctor
5. Those who seek to politicize the topic. i.e. "all these strikes are anti-Jonathan's govt, etc..."
6. Those who just want to avert a strike by appealing to both parties.

I may not have captured all, but i beleive the above form the major categories. I will not engage in brick bats or insults. I will only seek to correct some fallacies that have being expressed in previous comments.

1. A resident doctor has 3 primary responsibilities (among many other minor ones), these are:
SERVICE DELIVERY: This is where he/she provides health care to the patients
TRAINING: This is where he/she reads, accumulates knowledge (both practical and theoretical) and tackles various exams for a period ranging from 6 years to 9 years (depending on the specialty). This is after the usual 6 year medical school. Completing this additional training qualifies one to be a specialist in that field (Pediatrician, Obstetrician, Cardiac Surgeon etc)
RESEARCH: During this 6-9 year period, the resident doctor engages in various research endeavors which serve to increase the body of knowledge. This culminates in a final dissertation which ALL residents in training must present and defend before they are awarded a FELLOWSHIP of a college of physicians or surgeons; and can therefore be referred to as a consultant.

2. All the above duties are carried out CONCURRENTLY. Residents don't work regular 8am-4pm work hours. You close from work when you are through with all the above duties. many a time it can be 6pm to 10pm. There is no public holiday, you can be called upon at any time if there is an emergency. Even if you are not on call. Including weekends.

3. Regular Calls can range from 24hours to 72 hours straight! Some times, it can even exceed that. Catching a wink of sleep when on call is a luxury.

4. There is no civilized country in the world were Resident doctors are not paid for the services they are rendering while in training.

There are bad eggs in every profession, lawyers, engineers, accountants etc. However, that does not excuse us from falling into the fallacy of hasty generalization. I have seen doctors donate blood to save the lives of patients, I have seen doctors pay hospital bills several times for indigent poor patients; I have seen doctors go the extra mile and even take up other people's duties (e.g the social worker) for patients....

And here we have a topic saying that these crop of doctors have not been paid for 4-6 months and are SIMPLY demanding to be paid for what they have WORKED for; and some people can still come out and post that they should not go on strike. After working as I have described above without payhuh after a 21 day ultimatum was issued and ignored what do you want the resident doctors to do? Exist on water and air only. Would you love to be operated on by a Doctor who has not been paid for 6 months and doesn't know where his next meal is going to come from? shocked shocked

If we the followers think this way, should we then be surprised at the crop of leaders that we have? Should we then be surprised that our country is in the state it is in? Should we be surprised at the state of our health sector? Should we wonder why India is the new medical MECCA for every and any ailment?

The Nigerian doctor is one of the least paid in the world (check Google). And even a legitimate demand for that pittance to keep body and soul together is been considered to be WRONG huh huh

I shudder for this country......

Oh nothing of the sort but I was just briefing my sister who lives in Maryland about the MIHS pricing and the whole thingy but she says I should be doubly sure before I commit myself cos she's heard most of these hospitals/centres that appear cheap/affordable are sort of like boarding houses- those were her exact words. Where pts r crumped up and all. Of course I'd have loved to give birth in MD where she is bt I'm tryna save costs, as the price ranges she's told me are over the top( she had a baby in august last year n her bill ws close to 15grand). So js wanted a reconfirmation/new update on MIHS pricing/bill, as in is it all-encompassing,are u allowed to bring ur tests frm naija/will they be accepted? Etc...
