[b]ASUU Strike May End This Week, Says Yar’Adua[/b]From Chuks Okocha, Stanley Nkwazema, Sufuya Ojeifo and Onyebuchi Ezigbo in Abuja, 06.26.2007

President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua has assured the nation that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) may call off their three months old strike this week.
The Nigerian helmsman who spoke yesterday at the national executive council meeting of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), expressed the optimism that with the end of the NLC strike, there was every likelihood that of the university lecturers would be over in the course of the week.
This is coming as the House of Representatives will today table a motion for a resolution of the ASUU strike as well as lasting solution to labour crises in the country.
Already, the Nigeria Labour Congress has expressed its readiness to be part of the process seeking to end the industrial dispute between the Federal Government and members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
Member of the House representing Itu constituency of Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Etta Inang, disclosed to THISDAY that some members had already submitted motions on notice, among others, the handling of the Nigeria Labour congress strike and the moves by the House leadership to find an amicable solution to the issue of the ASUU who have been on strike since April this year.
A member of the Senate, Senator Mohammed Bello, (representing Kano Central on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has also made a passionate appeal to the ASUU to call off the strike.
The ASUU President, Dr. Suleiman Kano, had last week met with the leadership of the National Assembly on how to resolve the lingering crisis. Kano told the Speaker of the House, Hon. Hon. Olubunmi Etteh, that the ASUU executive would meet this week and get back to the assembly as he could not take a unilateral decision on the matter. Basking in the euphoria of its newly cemented relationship with government, achieved through the recent agreement for the suspension of the national strike on fuel price hike, the NLC appeared set to take on the issues relating to the stalled negotiation between ASUU and the federal ministry of Education.

Your says are correct, they are no respecter of any one. All these social ills have eaten so deep into the nigeria system that if it has become 'norm' such that buying a land/property is not a guarantee that you are completely excuse from further illegal charges & exploitation. WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE, I think most of these lawlessness still boil down to 'K-leg' in our judiciary (either justice been denied or delayed). If the Judiciary is completely independent & reliable, their verdict will serve as deterent to lawbreakers.

Guys, does anybody have an ideal when Unilag MBA form (2007/08) will be out? the likely requirements for collection & submission of the form. And is it possible running the program while working in Lagos. Do i need to write qualifying exam despite the fact i graduated (engineering) from Unilag 1997.

It's really unfortunate & pathetic the trend of events that behooved our loving game (football), while other nations are consolidating their rating/performance in world stage, Nigeria have descended so low to d extent that she got beaten by Uganda & likewise CAF got to sanction d refree for not upholding the controversial equaliser during d 1st leg encounter with Uganda in Abeokuta which literally translate that d "cranes" were robbed & therefore demonstrated their supremacy in d reutrn leg. Compatriot, why do we continue cursing the effect while ignoring the cause (law of cause & effect), it made me sad of having calibers of leaders @ helms of nation's affair- imagine that NFA official 've to travel to Germany with USD$ only to pay Vogts tax which ordinarily should have been paid to Nigeria govt, why? because of estacode & their self centredness. Can anybody remind me of any convincing win d "Eagles" have recorded since Vogts arrived (Get me right, Vogts is not the problem) it's pple that dragged us to d mess,i can assure u that all these confusions are deliberate to profit few @ d detriment of our uniting force. Presently i'm in Korea supervising project & d questions Korea guys keep asking is """what is d problem w Eagles""" It made me sick discussing this Eagle- are they still Super pls .

I must really confessed that I was dazed and amazed by the resourceful contribution of others, one thing kept bothering me about the exaggerated stewardship(if any) of Buhari- I agree he made us to believe he’s corrupt but there are millions of Nigerian out there with such quality. What about Yaradua – no corrupt allegation against him yet. Believe me any prospective Nigerian president must be a true father of All –respect people’s right of religion, freedom, tribe, background, etc. We don’t need people like him (Buhari) that will turn Nigeria to war torn nations like Lebanon, Sudan etc.

He once truncated democratic system; he doesn’t qualify to benefit from it. Was he not the same person that enriched “Salisu Ibrabhim (Toro saga) during his tenure as PTDF chairman, what impact/benefit can we boast of today except few that he enriched?

If he (Buhari) thinks he will rule Nigeria successfully like a military man he better go for further lecture from OBJ. We need a listening, a true democrat, detribalized, sincere leader, a gentleman, visionary, younger generation leader. YARADUA IS THE MAN OOO
