If you’ve ever wondered whether it was spelled fiancé or fiancée, well, they’re both correct. They’re both correct because they are actually different terms. English borrowed them from variants of the French verb fiancer (meaning “to get engaged”) in the mid-19th century. The masculine (fiancé) and feminine (fiancée) noun forms were both imported by English speakers, even though English doesn’t typically use gendered word endings. The extra E at the end is what denotes fiancée is feminine. The terms ultimately derive from the Latin fidare, literally meaning “to trust.” When do you use fiancé and fiancée? But which form should you use, and when? If you want to keep it traditional, the masculine form fiancé is typically used to describe “an engaged man,” while the feminine form fiancée is used to describe “an engaged woman.” Pronunciation of both fiancé and fiancée is identical. Because English doesn’t have word endings that connote gender, differentiating between the male and the female betrothed seems unnecessary to modern English speakers. Especially given the increased social awareness of non-binary gender issues, the difference between fiancé and fiancée feels a bit old-fashioned and out-of-date. For those who don’t want to choose between the terms, there appears to be a growing trend toward using fiancé as the gender-neutral form for both a man and a woman. |

Report gathered read that the telecommunication services have been shut down in 14 out of the 23 local government areas of Sokoto. Aminu Tambuwal, Governor of the state made the announcement on Monday September 20, during an interview with Voice of America (VOA) Hausa Service. He said it is part of the effort to check banditry in the state. Revealing that the affected council areas are the most vulnerable to bandit attacks in the state, Tambuwal added that the telecom services in the LGAs were shut down after the state secured approval from the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Isah Pantami. The network ban is effective in Dange Shuni, Tambuwal, Sabon Birni, Raba, Tureta, Goronyo, Tangaza and Isa local government areas amongst others. Isa local government area shares boundaries with Shinkafi LGA in Zamfara State, while Goronyo and Sabon Birni from west and north respectively have borders with the Republic of Niger in the east. |

Government has sealed off Shoprite Supermarket and a neighbourhood market in Akure, Ondo State. This online news platform understands that Shoprite and other popular facilities were sealed on Monday by the Ondo State Waste Management Authority (ODSWMA) over what it described as “unhygienic practices”. The reason for the government’s action is believed to be due to the flouting of the environmental laws of Ondo state. The General Manager of the Authority Mrs Ayo Adeyemo, who disclosed this, said the owners of the affected facilities violated environmental laws and failed to comply with the laid down hygienic practices. Adeyemo, who maintained that further sanctions would be taken, warned that anyone found culpable will not be spared. |

Gistlover also revealed that actress Olayinka Solomon, one of MC Oluomo’s side chick before her marriage, introduced Mariam to the Oluomo. Olayinka Solomon had introduced his friend to MC Oluomo for a one night stand, but things took a different turn as her friend fell pregnant for him.
