Extom:I am asking of when you are at home. I listen to radio too occasionally on my way to work but when I get home, I hardly remember radio. |
The use of radio at home seem to be fading away. Just curious, When last did you liten to your radio at home? I know some people listen to it in their car while driving to work but at home, do you? |

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, has said that the only way for Nigeria to progress is by voting out President Goodluck Jonathan from power in 2015. Tambuwal stated this while speaking at the official declaration of the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed for a second term in office. Ahmed is contesting on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and is seeking another four year term to govern the state. The Ilorin City Stadium venue of the rally, played host to residents of the state drawn from all the local government areas of the ancient city, some of who have arrived the state capital, 24 and 48 hours before today’s event. According to Tambuwal, “They have nothing to offer. They have been lying all along in power. They have not done anything to improve the lives of the people. The only way Nigeria can progress is by voting out Goodluck Ebele Jonathan from power in 2015 and I want you to do this through your votes in 2015.” APC leader and Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, told the gathering that it is only APC that can guarantee improved life for the people of the state. “What do they have for you? Nothing! It is only APC that can give you the best of life. Ahmed has demonstrated that he is capable of delivering the goods to our people hence we are returning him,” he said. Senator Saraki stated further that his party has the potential to make Nigeria great but the people must show their commitment to the party by voting for its candidates. Ishola Balogun-Fulani, APC Chairman in Kwara State, told the gathering that Ahmed deserved a second term in office because he had performed marvelously well in office. “Governor Ahmed is done us proud and his performance has confirmed that the APC has the interest and welfare of the people at heart,” the Kwara PDP chairman said. For Alhaji Kawu Baraje, the Ahmed administration has built on the remarkable achievements of his predecessor to institute a legacy of performance in Kwara State. “Governor Ahmed has built on the remarkable achievements of his predecessor, our leader, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki and what we have today in Kwara is a legacy of performance and resounding achievements. We can only continue this legacy of performance and achievements if we return APC to power through our votes for its candidates, not only Ahmed as our Governor but also other candidates of our great party,” the former acting National Chairman of PDP said. Governor Ahmed while speaking, told the gathering that he has done remarkably well in improving the lives of the people. “We have positively touched all facets of our lives in Kwara State. The road construction and rehabilitation have witnessed tremendous improvement; we have positively touched the lives of our people in the area of health care delivery and services; we have put in place a lasting legacy in the agriculture sector and others,” the Governor said. According to him, the need to continue serving the people informed his decision to seek to rule again. “I’m making this solemn pledge to serve you better and bring dividends of democracy right to you at your doorsteps,” he said. The APC Governors told the people of the state to vote for their colleague and ensure that he is returned to power. The National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, told the people to be extra vigilant and ensure that they defend their votes in the coming election. On the Kwara Governor, Tinubu stated that Ahmed was the natural choice because he has done well. “He received the mantle of good leadership from Bukola, who has equally done tremendously well for the Kwara people, he is our choice because he is your choice,” he said. The two time former Governor of Lagos State also urged the people to ensure that they collect their permanent voters’ cards (PVCs) as this is the weapon they need to change the government at centre. “We need to change the government at the centre. They have not done anything for us. They can’t provide food, employment and security, so we need to change this government,” Tinubu said. Other prominent politicians who were at the declaration includes: ex-Head of State, General Muhammad Buhari; ex-Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; Chairman of APC Governors’ Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha; National Publicity Secretary of APC, Alhaji Lai Muhammad; former Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Aliyyu Wammako; his Kano counterpart, Alhaji Rabiu Kwankwaso; the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi; Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi; and Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun who was represented by one of his commissioners among others.

There is the fear of another long strike returning to the nation’s polytechnics and colleges of education, our correspondent learnt on Monday. The anxiety is coming as the Federal Government has yet to meet the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, more than three months after it promised to resolve all outstanding issues concerning the industrial actions. It was learnt that ASUP had scheduled Wednesday, November 12, for its Council of National Officers’ meeting to reappraise the “compassionate treaty” it reached with the Federal Government in July. The ASUP President, Mr. Chibuzor Asomugha, in an interview with our correspondent on Monday, said both the teachers and their students were not happy with the “delay in resolving all the outstanding issues.” Asomugha, who did not make any categorical statement on whether members of the union would embark on another full-scale industrial action, noted that anything was possible, considering the worry and restiveness on campuses arising from the government’s inability to address the workers’ concern. He, nonetheless, noted that it was for the elected national officers of ASUP to decide the next step to take. He said, “We are meeting next Wednesday in Abuja to decide on what next to do. More than three months after we suspended our strike to enable the authorities to address the issues fully, nothing concrete has so far come out of it. “The leadership of the union was to meet with the authorities on October 20 to discuss the grey areas, but that meeting did not hold because the technical committee set up by the government had not filed its report. “As I speak with you, no new date has been fixed for the meeting, but I tell you, anything is possible among our members, especially as the government has not addressed our issues.” The ASUP chief, however, lauded the minister, saying he at least inaugurated the technical committee that was harmonising all the outstanding issues. COEASU also described the Federal Government’s intervention so far, especially its October 28 letter to the union over the suspended strike, as belated. The union, in a communiqué obtained on Monday after its three-day meeting in Abuja, said the letter coming after the “expiration of the three-month moratorium was quite belated and unsubstantial in its terse content.” The union’s president and secretary, Messrs Emmanuel Asagha and Nuhu Ogirima, respectively, signed the statement. The union argued that the continued delay in the implementation of the “migration concept” in the colleges of education was just unacceptable, even as it was an act of injustice. It added, “The Council, therefore, implores the Federal Government to commence the full implementation of migration by paying the arrears accruing therefrom as a matter of urgent national interest, so as to stem the imminent resumption of the national strike suspended three months ago. Meanwhile, the Education Rights Campaign has condemned the inability of the government to meet the unions’ demands. The action of the government, ERC in a statement by its Coordinator, Hassan Taiwo, said, was “contemptuous” of public education in the country. The group, therefore, called on the Federal Government to immediately meet and begin the implementation of all outstanding demands of ASUP and COEASU in order to avert resumption of industrial action. But the the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister, Mr. Nnamdi Olebara, who spoke on behalf of his principal, urged the unions not to engage in any action that would further disrupt academic activities in the nation’s tertiary institutions. According to him, the minister is sincere in the treaty he reached with the unions and very soon, all the issues would be resolved amicably. He said, “The minister is sincere. The promise is a sincere one and everything is on to fulfil the promise. It may not have been so smooth as to click with the end of three months, but we are not far from fulfilling that promise. “In fact, we want to leave here much better than we met it and the minister’s assurance should be taken in good faith and with all seriousness.” The leadership of ASUP and COEASU, last July 12, suspended their strike to enable the Education Minister, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, to look into their requests. Before the suspension, ASUP strike, which started October 4, 2013, lasted for 10 months, while that of COEASU, which commenced December 18, dragged on for seven months. The action not only disrupted the students’ academic calendar, it also frustrated many of the students, especially the Higher National Diploma candidates, from participating in this year’s compulsory National Youth Service Corps scheme. ASUP is demanding, among others, the removal of what they regard as discrimination against polytechnic graduates, review of the Polytechnics Act, the establishment of a National Polytechnics Commission and the release of the White Paper of the visitation to federal polytechnics. They are also kicking against the poor funding of polytechnics, deplorable condition of state polytechnics, appointment of unqualified persons as rectors of polytechnics and the review of the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System and the funding of the CONTISS 15 Migration. Colleges of education teachers, whose agitation started last December 18, are demanding, among others, the release of the 2012 Visitation White Paper, implementation of the NEEDS Assessment Report, harmonisation of conditions of service and the granting of autonomy to the colleges to award degrees. The Federal Government did not meet many of these requirements while the then Minister of State for Education, Chief Nyesom Wike, superintended the activities of the ministry. This resulted in the protracted industrial actions, which lasted till July 12 when a compassionate treaty was reached between Shekarau and the striking lecturers, leading to the suspension of the strikes |
Lots of childish comments here. The man is the head of the house. If that is how he wants it, so be it. The day he married her, it would have been defined that her salary is not part of what he's marrying. If she was spending the money to the benefit of the family, I don't think the husband will be making such request. Some women are not qualified to live under the roof of a man. They should remain single and climb on top of themself and get pregnant if they want to reproduce. |
The only way I will support what NASS is saying is if they will allow their own salaries too to be deregulated. Let Labour unions look into their salary to justify and make ammendments where necessary. They all have foreign account and building abroad with the billions they loot from this country and yet they won't allow civil servants be. Nonsense. Let the deregulation start from their own salaries Asap. |
nabsprada:I like your sense of judgement backing up your point with facts. There is a general belief that anything fried reduces the nutritional value but it seems that dosent apply to eggs. Thanks for your analysis/judgement. |
It is often said that it is good for kids to eat one egg everyday. My question is is it richer when it is fried or when it is boiled? I mean for infants. |

Founder and Chairman, Quantum Petrochemical Company Limited, Mr. Jim Ovia; President Goodluck Jonathan; Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke; and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, at the ground-breaking ceremony of the $1.5 billion methanol and petrochemical plant in Ibeno, Akwa Ejiofor Alike and Okon Bassey In furtherance of his administration's efforts to promote industrialisation in the country, President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a $1.5 billion methanol plant in Ibeno, Akwa Ibom State, by Quantum Petrochemical Company Limited, a company established by the Founder of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia. Speaking at the ceremony, Jonathan said the federal government has sought to support such gas-based industries through the gas master plan strategy and would continue its efforts to make gas available for such projects. He therefore advocated the establishment of more petrochemical plants in the country to create wealth and boost the country's foreign exchange earnings. “This $1.5 billion plant will put Nigeria on the global map for petrochemicals processing, particularly given the role that global brands such as IHS and Saipem are playing as the consultants and project developer of the initiative respectively. “The Federal Government of Nigeria lends it support wholeheartedly to ensuring the success of this project. I would like to encourage Mr. Jim Ovia and his board not to relent in their efforts to support the growth of entrepreneurship in the Nigerian economy,” he said. The president also thanked the host community for providing land for the project, pointing out that the country needed more of such projects meant to provide direct and indirect jobs for the teeming populace and reduce poverty. Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, described Jonathan as a transformational leader, noting that he had touched all sectors of the economy. Akpabio also lauded Ovia for his vision by citing the project in the riverine area of the state, pointing out that he did so out of his volition without being lobbied, describing the project as laudable as it would positively affect the future of the state and transform its economy and that of the nation. In his remarks, Ovia, who is also the Founder and Chairman of Quantum Petrochemical, said the president’s visit to the area was a further demonstration of his industrialisation policy. Ovia said the project is important to the manufacturing industry, adding that it would produce fertiliser, tyres, shovels, clothes and plastic bottles, among others. “The importance of developing capacity within the petrochemicals industry should not be underestimated: petrochemicals provide the foundation for manufacturing industries; for example, construction, packaging, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, textiles, etc,” Ovia stated. He added: “Our plant’s huge consumption of 170 mmscf per day will help fuel investment in gas infrastructure that will also be of benefit to the power sector. Nigeria has the capacity, both human and natural resources, to become a world leader in petrochemicals. “I am very excited at the prospect of Quantum Petrochemical Processing Plant Limited becoming one of the first wholly private sector-led petrochemical complexes to be developed in Nigeria.” Ovia took time to enumerate the importance of petrochemical plants to the overall development of the economy. “Petrochemicals are vital to our everyday life - the plastic bottles that allow us to drink sanitary water, the clothes that we wear, the fertilisers that we use to grow crops, the tires on our cars that brought us here today, the shovel that we will use to break the ground; the cosmetics the ladies among us applied today; the pharmaceuticals we take every day to enjoy a healthy life, are all derivatives of petrochemicals of some form,” he explained. He said the petrochemical park would enable a host of local industries to sprout and flourish and provide significant employment opportunities for Nigerians.

Policemen attached to the Special Fraud Unit, Milverton, Ikoyi and those of the Rivers State Police Command, are currently on the trail of a fleeing wife of the General Overseer of a popular Pentecostal Church (name withheld) in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, alleged to be operating the biggest baby factory in the southern part of the country. The suspect identified as Emeka Precious Chinyere, was alleged to have sold babies to desperate women between N 2.5 million and N6million. Her beneficiaries, we gathered, come from all parts of the world. Her modus oparandi as gathered, included giving desperate women concoction which would make their stomachs to start protruding, until the day of delivery. However, the delivery process is said to shrouded in mystery which the Police is trying to unravel. Emeka Precious Chinyere It was gathered that most of the beneficiaries were women who had waited for years without bearing children. The amount paid for each pregnancy as gathered, varied according to the age of the individual and the period of waiting. This illicit business has reportedly been going at God’ s Gift Clinic and Maternity home located at number 16 School Road , Elelenmo area of Port Harcourt , Rivers State, for years until the bubble burst, following a petition to the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Police Special Fraud Unit, by the United States of America Consulate, to investigate an America based- Nigerian woman who applied for American passport for her little baby. The US-based Nigerian identified as Christiana Ogeyi Omagu, with Nigerian passport number AO49173747 and US passport 458926040 , according to the US Consulate, appeared at the consulate in pursuance of a US passport for a male child she claimed to have delivered at God’ s Gift Clinic and Maternity , Port Harcourt , Rivers State. However, when a DNA paternity and maternity test was conducted, the result according to the embassy, indicated that the applicant and her husband, Donald Omagu , were not the biological parents of the baby. In spite of the result, the embassy said Mrs Omagu insisted that a certain doctor she identified as Chinyere Precious, took her delivery at God’ s Gift Clinic and Maternity in Rivers State, hence, the petition to ascertain her claim. During preliminary investigation, the Police Special Fraud Unit reportedly discovered that several embassies had petitioned them over similar cases, with the mention of the General Overseer’s wife as the doctor that delivered them of their ‘miracle babies’ It would be recalled that a similar instance was that of one Esther Soyebo, who , two years ago, was arrested following a petition from the US embassy over same reason. During interrogation, the woman told journalists that she was introduced to Pastor Chinyere by a friend in the USA who claimed to have had her three children miraculously from her. The suspect also stated that she paid N2.5 million for the prepared concoction she took , after which her stomach began to bulge . But efforts by operatives to locate the maternity home were futile as the woman claimed not to know the exact location of the centre. She claimed that she was taken there at night and that she left very early the next morning. But a combined team of operatives from the Unit and those of the Rivers state Police command stormed the maternity home recently where a near gun battle was reportedly averted, following resistance from armed policemen from the Special Protecting Unit , who blocked access to her. I have never witness any child delivery- Nurse However, a nurse identified as Peace Effiong and a supposed expectant mother were arrested at the maternity home in Rivers state and brought to SFU, Lagos. In her statement to the Police, the arrested nurse revealed that no child had ever been delivered in the maternity since she was employed. According to her: “ I was employed just six months ago and I have never witnessed any child birth there. Anytime a pregnant women is due for delivery, she is usually taken to Dr Chinyere’s home at Harvest Assembly Avenue, Stallion Road, Elelenwo. That is all I can say “ I paid N2.5 million for pregnancy and delivery On the part of the America- based Nigerian suspect, she disclosed in her statement that she paid N 2.5 million to the fleeing doctor before she got pregnant.. She explained that she came to Nigeria in February last year , after she was introduced to Dr Chinyere. “ One month later, the doctor said I was pregnant and I went back to my base in the USA , with the hope of delivering the baby in one of the hospitals over there. But several medical tests carried out in the United States indicated that I was not pregnant and I began to doubt. Dr Chinyere who visited America at that time, assured I was pregnant and advised me to come down to Nigeria to deliver the baby . By February this year, she called and informed me to come down to Nigeria , that I was due. I was delivered of a baby boy on February 16, 2014, at the maternity home” But the result of the DNA test by the embassy showed that neither she nor her husband were biological parents of the supposed baby. Asked if the delivery was a normal one or through caesarian , the suspect kept mute. Another paid 2.9million Another pregnant woman , Victoria Acholonu , who was arrested at the maternity home, told operatives that “ I paid N2.9 for the pregnancy. Dr. Chinyere called me on the phone to inform that my delivery was due . That was why I came to her hospital , only to be arrested. Again, when a text was conducted to ascertain her true state, the result showed that she was not pregnant, even with the evident bulging stomach. Sounding frustrated, Acholonu disclosed that she was not the only one that had fallen a victim. “ I know some people who said they paid more that N2.5million. Some claimed to have even paid N6 m , depending on their condition. Information at the operatives disposal indicated that the wife of the general overseer had fled to the United States of America. Police sources hinted that several attempts to arrest her proved abortive as some eminent Nigerians in key positions always intervened. Police sources said : “ the woman is very powerful , that is why she has managed to beat police arrest. She has been very evasive to the police at PSFU despite the numerous evidences against her. She was once arrested by the Police at Elelenwo divisional police station , after one of her victims’ husband became suspicious and invited the police , who invaded her home at the point of delivery but she escaped justice after an unidentified ‘ powerful man from ‘ above intervened “ However the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State , Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin has assured his command would ensure the suspect is arrested. As first step, he said the command would ascertain id the woman was a medical doctor. |
