PoliticsWe Will Make Boko Haram Beg For Peace – Nigeria’s Army Chief by Franchise21(op): 8:04am On Jul 20, 2015
Nigeria’s new Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, on Sunday said under his command, Boko Haram would either beg for peace or face the wrath of highly motivated and combat ready soldiers.
The Borno State-born Major General, who took over command of the nation’s army last week, said he was ready to lead soldiers to the dens and enclaves of the insurgents.
He, therefore, re-christened the operational code of the counter insurgency efforts from “Operation Zaman Lafiya” to “Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole” – which in Hausa means ‘the quest for peace becomes a must’.
Mr. Buratai, who was in neighbouring Yobe State to celebrate the Islamic eid-el-fitri festival with Nigerian troops, moved to Borno on Sunday afternoon.  He arrived Maiduguri by road and was received by the Borno State Deputy Governor, Zannah Mustapha, who immediately accompanied the army boss to visit the 103 Battalion of the 7 Division, Maiduguri in Konduga Town where they met the troops and hailed their courage and gallantry.
In his address, the army chief called for general collaboration amongst the troops and other security agencies as well as the general public in curtailing activities of the Boko Haram.
He stressed that without the synergy of intelligence amongst all security forces, it would be difficult to defeat Boko Haram whose insurgency has caused the death of over 15,000 people since 2009.
“The ongoing activities of Boko Haram is assuming an alarming dimensions in Borno state and other parts of the north east,” he said. “We will not tolerate the killing of citizens and destruction of property; in as much as we urge you (troops) to adhere strictly to human rights abuses, the time to crush Hoko Haram and other criminal activities in this country is now or never.”
Mr. Buratai  further told the soldiers that “as Chief of Army Staff, I will be actively involved in this ‘Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole’ to end the madness of Boko Haram if I will have your collective maximum support and cooperation.
“My doors will always remain open to all of you for constructive criticism and advice towards restoration of peace in this part of the country.
“Therefore, we are here to identify with you and to officially inform you that as from today henceforth, we have changed our Operational Code from ‘Operation Zaman Lafiya’ to ‘Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole’.
Earlier in his address, the Deputy Governor thanked the Army Chief and the General Officers Commanding 7 and 3 Divisions for “taking their time to visit the state to see the gallant troops”.
He promised that “the state government will continue to support the military and other security agencies in the fight against Boko Haram that have sacked almost 22 local government areas of the state with thousands of people mostly villagers killed and millions displaced”.
Mr. Buratai later  paid a courtesy visit to the of the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Elkanemi, where he informed the monarch about his new mission for the state. ‎
“We will reinforce the security. The government is not happy about the insecurity in the northeast. It is our desire to have a responsible and professional army that is responsive in the discharge of its duty.
“We will need the support of the royal father and the people of Borno so that we will ensure peace returns here.
“Since Boko Haram terrorists have refused peace (Zaman Lafiya), we will now force them to accept peace,” he said.
“The peace that permeated Borno and transcended Lake Chad will soon return. My wish was to clear Konduga of Boko Haram vestige so that people can return home to rebuild their houses,” the army chief added.
In his response, the Shehu of Borno said, “Boko Haram was not initiated by Borno people but those who came to live from neighbouring states.
“Most of the people of Borno are either farmers or traders, very accommodating and receptive.”
He noted that “the challenges of managing the IDPs was enormous and nothing could be better than ending the security situation.”
He pledged to support the military in the discharge of its duties.

CelebritiesTRAGIC!! Nollywood Actor Bruno Iwuoha Goes Blind, Cries For Help (SEE PHOTOS) by Franchise21(op): 11:18am On Jul 18, 2015
Nollywood Actor Bruno Iwuoha Goes Blind, Battles Diabetes, Needs N3.5M For Eyes Surgery.

Nigerian Actor Chief Bruno Iwuoha Goes Blind, Battling Diabetes, Needs N3.5Million For Eyes Surgery.

Veteran actor Bruno Iwuoha was a guest on a radio station in Abuja recently where he opened up on his current battle with a life threatening disease.

The talented actor talked about his battle with diabetes and how he has been battling Glaucoma for years without money for corrective surgery.
Mr Iwuoha who said diabetes has claimed his sight told the host of Brekete Family Program on 104.5FM in Abuja that he never knew he had diabetes until a violent armed robbery attack that landed him in hospital.

A series of test carried out on him revealed that he has diabetes and since then he has been managing it until the condition affected his sight.
Hear him:

“I’ve gone to so many places; within the country, outside the country for treatment, until finally…finally, the thing [diabetes] claimed one of my sight. As I look at you now, I’m using only one sight. They call that glaucoma. And gradually, it’s affecting the other one [eye]. So, naim make, apart from places…the people who call me a times, both the little cash they can give me…drugs and all that…but I discovered that this thing [the illness] is a lifetime something.

And it has robbed me of the job [acting]. And now, if I get a script, it will be hard for me to read it very well. And if I read it, if I strain my eyes for so long, it would look as if someone would lead me around the house or anywhere I want to go because it will affect the only one [eye]. So that’s my problem.”

The actor said he needs the help of kind-hearted Nigerians because he has been referred to a US-based hospital where he is required to have N3.5million.

So far he has about N200,000.

He said he got to know that Jonathan gave AGN money but Ibinabo Fiberesima never assisted him with any money when he reached out to her.

Travel2 Aircrafts Collide At Lagos Airport by Franchise21(op): 6:52pm On Jul 17, 2015
Tragedy averted as two aircraft collide at Lagos Airport

Lagos – Tragedy was averted on Friday at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2) in Lagos following a ground collision of two aircraft belonging to FirstNation Airways.

A similar incident had occurred at the airport on July 6, following the collision of two aircraft belonging to Emirates and Hak Air.
It was gathered that Friday’s incident which happened at about mid-day involved two Airbus 330 conveying not fewer than 250 passengers.
The two aircraft had their bodies partially damaged as a result of the collision.

A source at the airport said one of the aircrafts was taxiing from the runway to MMA2, to disengage passengers while the other aircraft was preparing to take off to Port-Harcourt Airport from the same terminal.

The source alleged that the pilot may have been misdirected by the marshals who directed the pilot to taxi to the wrong part of the apron.
According to the source, the Port-Harcourt bound aircraft was parked at Gate 4 while the arriving aircraft was bound for the Gate 3 of the terminal.

However, the source claimed that the marshals misdirected the arriving aircraft to the same Gate as the parked aircraft which led to the two wings brushing each other.

Following the incident, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), immediately, grounded both aircraft while passengers wereasked to disembark by the airline.

It was further gathered that the refunds of tickets were made to passengers on the Port-Harcourt bound aircraft by the airline.
The NCAA also confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr Fan Ndubuoke.
Ndubuoke said no passenger was hurt and that the incident had been referred to the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) for further investigation.

He also reiterated NCAA’s commitment to safety and security of passengers. (NAN)

PoliticsBlackmail Won’t Help Your Case, Oshiomhole Tells Okonjo-iweala by Franchise21(op): 5:10pm On Jul 17, 2015
Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has said that there is nothing ‘personal’ between him and former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
And that blackmail won’t help her case.
The Edo State Governor in a statement on Thursday said the questions he asked were: how come those accruals into the Excess Crude Account got depleted without the knowledge of the National Economic Council?
The statement read thus in part

BLACKMAIL WON’T HELP YOUR CASE, OSHIOMHOLE TELLS OKONJO-IWEALA

It is instructive at this point in time to state categorically without equivocation that there is nothing “personal” between Okonjo-Iweala and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole in terms of the request by the Edo Governor that Okonjo-Iweala should come clean on the issue of revenue that accrued to the Excess Crude Account.
As much as her Spokesman tries to dramatize his response in defense of his boss, he has shown a manifest uninformed disposition to issues of simple economics of naira and kobo.
Here is a former Minister who has changed her position four times in the last forty days; each position exposing her dubiety of facts and inherent contradictions in the concocted tales she has been weaving on one simple issue: what happened to t5he $2.1b ECA funds?

PERTINENT QUESTIONS.

The simple questions which the Comrade Governor asked were: how come those accruals into the Excess Crude Account got depleted without the knowledge of the National Economic Council? How come monies that were supposed to accrue into the said account cannot be found in it going by the balance sheet provided by the former Minister?
How come the Minister unilaterally dipped her hand into the Excess Crude Account to spend money in defiance of the constitution and the laws of the land? How come that the Minister finds it convenient to publish allocations to States and Local Governments, but refused to publish accruals into the same account for us to know the status of the account at any point in time; how much was left from where she was distributing from?’

PoliticsBoko Haram Kills 45 Villagers, Travellers In Bid To Seize Highway To Borno by Franchise21(op): 4:33pm On Jul 15, 2015
Barely 48 hours after they attacked Mainok town in Borno state, which left over 30 persons dead and most part of the village burnt, Boko Haram terrorists on Wednesday returned to attack villagers returning to count their losses.
Commuting along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway was halted again for the fourth ‎time in a week, as security operatives battle to prevent Eidel Fitri holiday travelers from driving into an ambush by the insurgents.
Villagers reported 15 persons killed on Tuesday night as Boko Haram fighters carried on days of attacks on the only safe route linking other parts of the country with Maiduguri, the birth place of the Boko Haram insurgency.
Warsala, a village located on the boundary between Borno and Yobe states, in northeast Nigeria, was the latest community along the Kano-Maiduguri highway, that is being attacked by Boko Haram extremists.
The agrarian community is not more than 5km from Ngamdu, another village along the highway that buried 10 persons killed by Boko Haram terrorists on Friday night.
The Tuesday night attack on Warsala came barely 24 hours after the same terrorists attacked Mainok, a village located along the same highway and about 40km away from Warsala.
A traveler along the route, Hamza Baba, told reporters Wednesday that he drove through a village practically deserted, even as he sighted some smoking trailer trucks by the road side.
“The trucks were attacked and burnt by Boko Haram terrorists who shot their drivers,” said Baba, a government worker travelling to his home town for the Eid Fitri celebration.
“A villager, who had luggage on his head and standing by the road side to catch a vehicle to Damaturu, informed me that the attack took place at about 8pm when the gunmen arrived Warsala shooting sporadically. He said eight persons were found dead this morning and that he had to flee because the gunmen said they would still be back.
“Another trailer conveying commodities to Maiduguri was attacked, and the driver killed early this morning in Ngamdu village about 2 kilometres away from Warsala, which is a village under Yobe state.
“This has forced the village to start fleeing their homes en mass this morning. I saw more than 3000 of them leaving; many were trekking, some were conveyed in trucks. The Damaturu-Maiduguri highway is becoming a dead zone; this is the fourth attack this week from Monday. I wonder why intensive patrol measures is not being launched to stop this”, said Baba, who communicated his concerns via social chat platform, WhatsApp.
On Monday, reports from the attacked town of Mainok in Kaga local government areas of Borno state, indicated that at least 30 persons were killed, and many others injured by rampaging Boko Haram terrorists, security sources said.
Mainok is a town located about 65kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
The attack lasted about five hours as the gunmen took their time to ensure that no single edifice in the village was left untouched, even as more than 30 villagers and travellers were said to have been killed during the attack.
Sources said more than a hundred Boko Haram terrorists had, at about 5:30pm, stormed Mainok town and opened fire on civilians, killing at least 40 helpless civilians. More than 30 vehicles that were trapped near the village were also burnt as well as hundreds of homes.
Abubakar Danmalam, an operative of the Civilian-JTF, who visited Mainok on Tuesday, said “about 30 persons, and that include those travellers that trapped on the way while traveling along Maiduguri – Damaturu roads” were murdered.
”We have buried some of the people that can be buried but some of them were burnt beyond recognition; some of our foodstuffs were carted away,” he said.
The Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima, told visiting officials of the Nigerian Foundation for the Support of Victims of Insurgency that many people were killed during the Monday attack on the Maiduguri highway.
Speaking Tuesday, Mr. Shettima said his optimism that the Boko Haram insurgency would soon end was heightened by the appointment of new security chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.
“Nigeria now has the best of chances to overcome the challenges of insurgency facing it, since 2009,” Mr. Shettima said.
“Yesterday (Monday) was the happiest moment of my life”, he said.
“President Muhammadu Buhari made a strong statement by his decision to appoint two highly competent sons of Borno to the offices of the National Security Adviser and the Chief of Army Staff.
“I think his strategy was to get people with ancestral knowledge of the Borno terrain. Major General Tukur Buratai is even a direct victim of Boko Haram attacks. He lost family members when his residence was attacked earlier this year in Buratai, a town in Biu local government area. Monguno was destroyed and once occupied by Boko Haram and that is where the new NSA, Retired Major General Babagana Monguno hails from. In fact, a key family member of General Monguno is still being held captive by Boko Haram insurgents.
“These two Generals are from Borno, they know exactly where it pinches and most importantly, they understand the terrain and can easily connect with communities to get local support. Added to them is also the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadique Abubakar who hails from Bauchi also in the northeast. AVM Abubakar spent many of his formative years in military here in Borno State. He has spent over ten years in Borno, he knows the terrain very well also and connect with the people.
“I think for us, it is now or never because the President has generously put sons of Borno and the northeast to lead the battle for the freedom of Borno, the northeast and the rest of Nigeria, from the murderous threats of insurgents. Insha Allah, with the combined efforts of other competent service chiefs and all Nigerians, the war on terror will soon be won by the supremacy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mr. Shettima said.
Boko Haram has in the last one year bombed all major bridges on ‎four of the five highways linking the rest of the world with Maiduguri.
The group has also planted landmines on the roads, killing several travellers.
Maiduguri now hosts over a million internally displaced persons, and now relies only on the Kano-Maiduguri highway for access.
But with the incessant onslaught on the highway by the Boko Haram terrorists, there are fears by residents that even the only relatively safe route might be taken by the terrorists.
Although soldiers have been deployed to Benisheik town, 85 kilometres from Maiduguri, to specifically guard the only bridge along ‎the highway, there are concerns the terrorists might be plotting to attack the bridge.
“If that happens, ‎we are doomed in Maiduguri, because that is the only surviving road that thousands of travellers ply daily,” said Yahaya Garba, a Maiduguri-based automobile mechanic.

PoliticsBola Tinubu Speaks About His Demands From President Buhari by Franchise21(op): 3:38pm On Jul 15, 2015
The APC Chieftain while speaking to State House correspondents after breaking the Ramadan fast with President Buhari, said contrary to popular belief he has no demands from the President.

I have no demands. If you understand what party politics and leadership is all about, it is about loyalty and commitment to the values which the leadership believes in. I believe in what the president believes in, I respect him and I stand firmly loyal to his cause. So you can go to any length of speculation that you might want, I have not responded to all of that because I understand the president and the president understands me clearly.

He also added a word on the National Assembly crisis, saying that he is being careful of his utterances and that the party members and leaders should be discipline.

That is an area where I am very cautious of my position and my utterances. I still want to keep my side of the interpretation or analysis to be able to achieve a resolution of the matter as quickly as possible. I am backing what the president has carefully enumerated and articulated to the party. The party is supreme. The party must have disciplined leadership and followers. The party’s process must be respected because that is the confidence and the trust of the people. However in every environment, we should have conflict, that is politics and conflict resolution mechanism would be applied to resolve all the problems so we are there. There is honour in every struggle and every competition, there must be honour in victory too.
