By the end of the tournament in February, Equatorial Guinea will have scored a massive image coup and Nigeria and the other countries who chickened out will be left with egg on their faces. This was a prime opportunity to project Nigeria positively and display a leadership role on the continent. Imagine Nigeria being the country which bailed out the rest of Africa and put on a great show against all outside expectations. Imagine Nigeria successfully defending the AFCON trophy in front of 68,000 Green and White shirts in Abuja. Imagine the rest of Africa and the world looking up at Nigeria as it would have sent the most evocative statement about our confidence in ourselves and our ability to get things done.
Instead, it's a TINY country like Equatorial Guinea which will now bad mouth us afterward saying things like "What Nigeria dared not do, we did excellently."
When all of you will be complaining that other people badmouth Nigerians, you don't see how things like this create these negative pictures of us.
After we've gone around beating our chests about how we are Africa's first ever $500bn economy and the largest economy in Africa, ordinary 4 week, 4 city tournament which we already have the infrastructure to host, we choose to chicken out.
Country of loud mouth, big for nothing, unsubstantiated egos.

Morocco have been stripped of the right to host next year's
African Nations Cup, the Confederation of African Football (CAF)
decided on Tuesday as it examined prospective replacements.
It has also disqualified Morocco from playing in the finals,
which CAF said would go ahead as planned on the scheduled
dates of January 17-February 8.
Morocco's removal as hosts follows the north African country's
request for a postponement of the tournament over fears of the
spread of the deadly Ebola virus.
Morocco believes thousands of travelling supporters from west
Africa pose a risk and wanted a postponement of at least six
months while the fight against Ebola intensified.
But CAF rejected any change to the planned dates citing a
packed calendar. They gave Morocco an ultimatum of Saturday
to withdraw their request which was rejected.
CAF said it had received "a few applications from national
associations confirming their desire to host the 2015 finals on
the dates agreed".
But it did not name any of them. No country has made any
public expression of interest.
CAF said it would now study the applications and finalise the
selection of new hosts "shortly" but did not give a date.
It will also confirm a date and venue for the draw ceremony,
which had been scheduled for Rabat in Morocco on November
26.
African soccer's governing body said it would seek legal
redress from Morocco based on its contractual agreement with
the Royal Moroccan Football Federation which was signed in
April.
Moroccan football is also likely to be heavily sanctioned.
CAF's executive committee, meeting in Cairo, also confirmed the
qualifying matches set for this weekend and next Wednesday, to
determine the 2015 finalists would go ahead as planned.

The Nigerian police on Monday said 47 people were killed
while 79 others were injured in the Monday morning
bomb attack on Government Senior Science Secondary
School, Potiskum in Yobe State.
The police said a suicide bomber disguised as a student
detonated the explosive at the school’s assembly ground at
7.45 a.m.
Police bomb experts are already at the crime scene while
the victims have been taken to hospital, officials said.
Reports said the students were converged for the morning
assembly when the incident occurred.
The Government Science Secondary School, Potiskum is one
of the densely populated boarding schools for boys, located
very close to the Potiskum General Hospital in the heart of
town.
Potiskum is the largest town outside Damaturu, the Yobe
state capital.
The attack on the high school came six days after a similar
suicide bombing was targeted at members of the Shiite
group, Islamic Brotherhood of Nigeria, also in Potiskum.
That bombing took place at Faydia Islamic school, ran by
the Shiite. It is located near the old market in Potiskum.
The bomber struck when members of the Shiite were
gathering to go on a procession to mark the Ashura Day.
Ashura Day is the tenth day of the month of Muharram,
the new month of the Islamic calendar.
Shiite Muslims commemorate the day to mourn the death
of Hasain Bn Ali, the grand son of Prophet Mohammed
who was reportedly killed on that day.
As the faithful were about embarking on the procession,
the bomber got into their midst and detonated his bomb,
witnesses say.
Potiskum is the largest town outside Damaturu, the Yobe
state capital.
Although, the town had witnessed several bomb and gun
attacks from members of the Boko Haram sect in the past,
it has of recent enjoyed relative peace.
