The Suspenders - Chapter 1

A hefty man, no less than 6.2, dark in complexion with an angry and intimidating look on his face wasn't quite what Donald was anticipating when he opened the door to see who was banging at it at about 7:00pm. Of course, he had suspected from the truculent nature of the knock even before he opened the door that, whomever it could be, it was definitely not going to good.

- ”You got the money yet?” asked the husky chunk of meat quite angrily.

-”No. We ain't got it yet. I thought we weren't good until Friday”.

- “Yes. Friday is good but today is better. The boss needs some money urgently to take care of some very important business”.

- “Well, like I said, we ain't got the money yet. Tell Snowden we'll have his money ready by Friday as agreed” Donald said, unafraid of the man's threatening and intimidating poise, countenance and charisma.

- ”It had better be ready by then. Complete. Not a single cent short else you and your brother will each have a finger short”.

- “And if we don't got the money yet by next tomorrow?” asked Donald in a quivering tone of voice, visibly quite afraid now.

- ”Then you'll each have a hand short”.

It's been only ten days since Donald was released from prison upon completion of three years out of his initial seven year jail sentence. He was released for good behavior and for sharing intel that could lead to the capturing of his father, but he must spend three months at home on house arrest and six months on probation in fulfilment of the conditions of his release. He had succeeded in learning the hard way, the language and the ways of the streets during his stay at the Glendale prison in the remote town of Stargate about sixty kilometers away from the city of Fourwheels and 72 kilometers away from his place of abode. It was no wonder he was no where as terrified as his younger brother who immediately took to his heels through the backdoor, with his tail between his tiny legs just before Donald had reached for the door to see who was at it.

Actually christianity too shall pass, they were other religions before your Christianity which was plagiarized from other religions, so no scripture is being fulfilled. If I throw mud to a wall there's a chance that one must stick that's all your "fulfilled scripture" is. If your god is as great as you claim he wouldn't need you to defend him and writing in caps and using a storybook to defend your claim like the OP struck a nerve. Oh and by the way.......

There's no God.

The title says it all. Religious adherents especially christians as far as this part of the world is concerned should stop disturbing our eardrums with their concocted fables about redemption. Atheists do not go about the streets causing noise pollution with their messages of reason, rationality and logic based on knowledge and facts. So let there be silence. Enough is enough.
Religion / Theists, Please Let There Be Silence by francis247(m): 4:57pm On Dec 07, 2018
I went to the market to acquire some kitchen weapons to combat the civil war in my tummy. As I navigated through the crowd, while gladly observing various butt sizes, here stood a man with a penis-like microphone raving and ranting about redemption through christ.

I stood for a while to listen to him, and suspended the butts inspection. How can a man that needs redemption from hunger be making such a claim that jesus is the only way to redemption when all religions teach redemption?

Redemption is not a magical concept, and jesus is not a prerequisite for character redemption. Buddhism and Judaism all teaches redemption, and most justice systems include redemption in their legal codes and procedures.

Claiming jesus is the only path to redemption is bullshit. Christianity cannot have monopoly on redemption, as this is a development of ones character. Why does your god needs blood to forgive? What mistake did humans commit that needs to be atoned for?

While preaching this bovine excrement, the noise booming out of the loudspeakers were at high decibels. I have never heard an atheist yelling on the street about atheism ever. For thousands of years atheist have either been stoned, or their heads lopped off.

Atheists do not spew violence and hatred towards others. Atheists hate shitty ideas. There is a vast difference between hating silly ideas, and hating people because they disagree with what people choose to believe.
Atheists are now making their voices to be heard with words and not violence. There are no videos of atheists beheading people. No atheist suicide bombers screaming they die in the name of nothing.

I'm yet to see a group of atheists on the street causing public disturbance. Religionists just love it. Atheist don't Bleep with yells, so let there be silence!

Africans wake up. These gods of men do not have your interest at heart. They don't give a modicum of 4uck about you. They say what you want to hear to get what they want from you. They take undue advantage of religion to prey on you while you pray for them. Wake up from your ignorance. Wake up from your deep intellectual slumber. The entire system was built on fallacies, fear, ignorance and irrationality wherein it finds its fuel. Wake up and drink from the spring of rationality and commonsense. Wake up.

Good. I expected you to say you had, despite calling it meaningless. So tell, why think reason and behave like the "African, afraid of the yet to be known", "addicted to antediluvian ideas and beliefs, stuck on boot loop", allowing "religious leaders, the pulpit bandits, practically use your brains to mop the floor week in week out", when you have knowledge of a superior alternative? Why has all your study not given you a Japanese mind, or a Chinese mind? Are you afraid of what you now know? Still allowing your brain to mop the floor? Or just addicted to antediluvian ideas and beliefs that you are a product of your environment and can't do anything about it?

Have you just not accepted all you have learnt into your life perhaps and think where you are, limits your mind to working like an "average or majority African mind" ?

Yes, by the way, I am aware of African movies though I hardly ever watch them. Afterall, as a person thinketh, so a person is, and what one fills one's mind with is how one thinketh. I see no reason to fill my mind with junk culture, arts, music, movies, language, value system, when there's superior nutrients (C.f. buda from the east), to fill my mind and develop the "ability to separate reason and rationality from emotions etc". Not that I'm agreeing that all African culture is junk, having this week sent money for a week long Oro ritual in the Orolu Kingdom. Thieves are disturbing us there, and the fear of being caught by Oro keeps them off the streets at night, especially as the Oro is said to be an excuse to capture people to sacrifice, or so we tell them. And you'd find the junk version in Japanese and Chinese culture, and even people from those places who think and reason like your "average or majority African"!

Indeed, "It takes great depth in intellectual strength and bravery to be not only completely open minded to the reception of new ideas, beliefs and and practices but also to go in search of them". The only thing you are saying in this thread of yours is that you might not have such strength, and bravery, afterall. And we are going to give you some, whether you want it or not!

Let it be duly noted that I am an atheist. I've been one for over two years. I do not believe in the existence of God, gods, Satan, demon or any supernatural being for that matter. I believe I'm solely and single handedly responsible and accountable for my actions and inactions. I find the concept of this world being under the control of any supernatural being or beings laughable to say the least. I believe that religion was born out of nothing but fear, unnecessary and irrelevant fear of the yet to be known, an infantile explanation to certain realities of our universe. It's this unnecessary fear in most average people that is capitalized upon by most religions to propagate their doctrines. I cannot remember the last time I prayed or went to church. I stopped going to church as I could no longer hold myself from laughing my ass off as the pastor preached or whenever it was time to pray. I did not explicitly lead with the fact that I'm an atheist lest theists, rather than approach the topic and its content from a logical and rational perspective start spewing some bald-faced balderdash as usual but as you may have seen, most of them did not disappoint.

My advocacy is that fellow atheists should stop using truculence in compelling theists to see absurdity in the belief in the existence of any God or Demon and this is based on the fact that, as I earlier stated, most Africans are intellectually fragile. Most theists came to the realization that the existence of God, Satan, life after death, etc. are nothing but fallacies all on their own, when they put their belief and faith in a supposed almighty being to work but he failed beyond reasonable doubt. The process of pulling most Africans in my opinion out of the pit of their delusion and ignorance as far as religion is concerned has to be slow, tactical, methodical and steady. They have to be made to come to that realization on their own lest they keep tagging us agents of some imaginary demon. Sadly most of them are lazy when it comes to studying their religious books very well and will hardly put their so called faith in God to work. You need to pass by a church or better still, check YouTube and see what pastors are doing to most of their sheeples, especially the ladies, you need to hear the kind of so called prayer points the congregation is asked to pray. It's very heartbreaking. Most Africans are very religious one directionally minded people. I see the sad, pitiful and sometimes disdainful look on their faces as I tell them that I don't go to church, as they see me cut up in my own space, doing my thing at my own pace, in my own way and at my own time. I can't help but laugh and feel sorry for them at the same time. And no. I do not no consider my self to be just another average African. I have great strength and intellectual bravery and I am very open minded to the reception of deas and beliefs that can be reasonably and logically proven because if your belief has no proof, then what you espouse is a paragon of dishonesty.

And you know this how? Have you studied "their immaterial culture, arts, music, movies, language, value system, their innate ability to separate reason and rationality from emotions etc", things you said were "all meaningless" ?
Yes I have. Moreover, the proof is in the pudding. Have you seen an African movie or listened to an African music lately, most of them are an insult, a huge slight on the intellect to say the very least. And it's not always as if the people in charge of the production of these works of art are so intellectually lazy to come up with something more sophisticated, something totally different from what we've been seeing over the last two decades, but they unfortunately have to consider the majority and not the minority of their audience, they just can't handle it.

budaatum:

You say the Japanese and Chinese "manifest" an "innate ability". Shows how much you know of their historical development. What took them thousands of years to learn - their "ability to separate reason and rationality from emotions" - you call "innate" as if they were born with it which conforms with your false notion that we are products of our environment and have no say in the matter.

And half emptying your glass, their say in the matter, the method by which they propagate the "culture, arts, music, movies, language, value system", which is how they ensure everyone learns and acquires the "intellectual and psychological strength" to "separate reason and rationality from emotions"; you call "manifest", disregarding the effort involved in using teaching aids to improve their people!

Propensity? As in Africans have the inclination or natural tendency to be religious? I'm on episode 100 of The History of China on podcast. Episode 1 free download is here.

I can assure you that if anyone had a "propensity" for religion, it's the Chinese. And I doubt I need to list religious "propensities" of the Japanese.

This is a lie! Unless you, francis247, is not "average African" and "cannot handle it". Or were you not religious? Are you average now? Ignorance dims when intelligence shineth. If we can take ignorance away from you - average African francis - we can take it away from anyone we want to, and learning you to to handle it is on par.
Before the West started buying slaves from Africa, they were doing so from Asia, particularly the western part of the continent. When their people began to die like flies as a result of the trade, majority of them rose up and resisted against the practice which led the Whites to beam their search light on a different part of the world, on people of a different race and they found Africa. Despite Africans dying like flies in the course of the trade, they barely rose up against it until a certain group of persons from the same west rose against it and fought for the termination of the trade. Colonialism and neocolonialism was and is still being vehemently resisted by the Asians. Today parts of the continent are also resisting western religion along with the menace that it brings. But in this part of the world, majority of the people are addicted to mental laziness. Most deride knowledge, research and scientific investigation more than they desire it, wanting to be led than lead. Most Africans are addicted to antediluvian ideas and beliefs, they're stuck on boot loop. It is no wonder the so called religious leaders, the pulpit bandits practically use their brains to mop the floor week in week out. It's sickening to say the very least. Majority of Africans are afraid, afraid of the yet to be known (which they'll never know as long as they continue to distance themselves from knowledge by shying away from research and study), the irrelevant and the unnecessary. The journey of a thousand years begins with a step. The average will rather sit around and look or simply move around in circles rather take a bold and brand new step every now and then. Look around you and the businesses ventured into by most Africans. Majority of Africans are mere distributors of partially of fully manufactured goods and services. We say the West and now the Asians have made Africa a dumping ground, but most of us have aided and abated their activities by our inactions more than our actions. This is the hard and saddening truth. It's not an insult but a statement of fact. Intellectually, Africans are weakest all major races worldwide. The proof is in the pudding. Given the mineral and natural resources this continent has, it should be the greatest in the world, religion or no religion, differences or no differences. They should be running to us and not the other way around. This world is what we made it. It's mainly about the people and less about the resources they were given, it's mainly about the workman and less about his tool. The average Westerner can dedicate his entire life to his carrier, searching for the cure to one disease or the other, trying to come up with one invention or the other, make breakthrough in a scientific project or advance a field of study that has been initiated. But to the average African, if one does not get married and have children, then that person has not lived. It takes great depth in intellectual strength and bravery to be not only completely open minded to the reception of new ideas, beliefs and and practices but also to go in search of them, whereas it takes just a little bit of physical strength to move in circles and reject changes, new ideas, beliefs and values all the while holding on to antiquity.

If you really want to dump her, just tell her you're not on the same page at the moment as far as the relationship is concerned, that you think it's best you end things now than later.

WHY COMMONSENSE?
The ability to think in a practical way and make sensible decisions is the definition given to the term commonsense by the OALD (8TH Edition).

Like water and oil, it's quite amazing that some people still believe in this day and age, that the term has no place when it comes to pure, genuine, profound and sincere love, that if sense and reasoning is very much alive and kicking in the relationship, that the relationship cannot be said to exist based on true love, that true love makes one think, say and do stupid things, like if one isn't making among other wise choices, unreasonable choices, then one is most probably not is love. Because thought and reason tend to give way for the vehicle of love when it's fully in motion to pass through, it is important therefore that one teaches oneself by training the brain to prepare proactively and not reactively to the eventual swift and forceful passage of the vehicle of love in other for the strong emotion of love not to continue to overpower the very essential commonsense when one is in love.

Every living organism no matter how infinitesimal has an organ for reasoning commonly known as the brain. The most vital and most delicate organ in humans, it's role in insects isn't as important in comparison but nevertheless still exists. Why then would anyone under any circumstance want to put this very complex organ that plays very vital roles one of which is the regulation of respiration without which ones life...

Romance / Re: When The Average Nigerian Girl Is Searching For True Love by francis247(m): 7:36pm On Dec 02, 2018
francis247:

For decades, in the mind of the average Nigerian girl, the understanding of the concept of genuine love between two persons of opposing genders has been on life support. Mind you this assertion is not based on any failed attempt on my part to successfully woo a lady into getting romantically involved with me, no, far from it. As a matter of fact, I've barely made any real attempt of getting anyone romantically involved with me obviously because of my kind of person - a melancholic living with but constantly making efforts to live above SCT alias CDD. As already established before now, on average, a person living with SCT/CDD is more of a spectator than a participant in many facets of life. Now that said, back to the issue at hand. The emergence of this topic is rather resting on the oars of my recent frequent visits to a popular Nigerian forum where I often encounter threads created by one guy or the other lamenting over how one girl or the other with whom he went out on a date took the shape of a leech along with her battalion of friends and bodyguards, literally ordering the entire menu of the eatery leaving Mr. lover boy with two options: Squeal in public the fact that his finances are hanging on a thread or abort mission and flee. The thread I recently stumbled upon just like most of its kind was fraught with similar narrations from other guys bemoaning the the tragic misconception of the concept of love and romance as far as the average Nigerian girl is involved.

The understanding or meaning of genuine and sincere love to the average Nigerian girl is so defective and debilitating that it evokes phrases such as physical, mental and psychological burden bearer, docile load carrier, bovine savior, immaculate philanthropist, hunger combatant, poverty alleviator, aptly put - a trolley in human form.

This has of course seen certain dates between the average Nigerian girl and the average Nigerian guy witness an end that is nothing short of absurd and hilarious. The guy in some cases flees the supposed crime scene in the pretence of going to use an ATM nearby abandoning his date to her possible and probable funeral of shame and embarrassment. In other scenarios where Mr lover boy is courageous or cowardly enough to pay for a crime he didn't commit, the infant relationship more often than not still dies of sudden asphyxiation.

The average Nigerian girl's situation as far as the search for genuine love in romance is concerned can be likened to...

francis247:
Have you ever expressed a love interest in someone especially at a very young age but got hurt as your feelings were unreciprocated? Did you or do you ever wonder why he or she never liked you romantically despite the efforts you seemed to have made? Are you currently pondering, running simulations after simulations as to why your likeness or love for someone is or was unrequited?

The solution to this puzzle is quite simple. The reason why the one you like didn't or doesn't seem to like you in return whilst the one or the ones that seem to like you, you barely notice or feel their presence whenever they're around you is pretty obvious - climbing the ladder, looking forward and aiming higher. We all look forward as we move ahead in life. We seldom look backwards to see what's behind us because looking forward is the most essential part of moving forward. Imagine having to look forward while walking or driving on a busy street. even if you have a justifiable reason for doing so. You'll most likely end up creating more problems than solutions for yourself. Also, although we tell ourselves that we do not choose the person with whom we fall in love, it just happens randomly, I never really saw myself liking someone like him or her, etc. The truth is that we do very well choose that person we like, the person with whom we fall in love, subconsciously however and not necessarily consciously. The subconscious act of choosing the person we're attracted to and would like to date is based on our soft spots, opinions, views, ideologies, wants and desires, all of which can be said to be based on our level of wisdom, knowledge, exposure, experiences and enlightenment.

Everyone is looking to...

We can like the world to be equal and moderated , but equality to be fair must be self regulated, not externally mandated. It is up to you to make the world what you expect of it. The mechanism to make the world already is in place

1- Can everyone have a great education? Yes.
2- Can everyone be financially secure? Yes.
3- Can everyone be well fed? Yes.
4- Can everyone be healthy? Yes.
5 -can everyone love themselves? Yes.

I list education first because all else flows from education [i.e]. If you are educated, you can find a job. Then you tailor your lifestyle to your income. With proper budgeting you can also eat well, and maintain your health. With any excess income you can buy luxuries.if all this are achieved, there will be no need for hatred. And love itself will be our main goal.
This would only have be realistically possible if all things had originally been made equal. There are persons not factored into your disposition - the dweebs, the misfits, the pariahs, persons born with one or multiple forms of physical or intellectual disability or disorder. I'm not asking that if he exists, he should provide for us that which he has empowered us to provide for ourselves. I'm rather demanding that he shows up like the all knowing, all powerful, omnipresent, omnipotent and omniscient God of gods he, along with theists claim he is and provide for us that which we cannot seem to provide for ourselves, I'm demanding that he shows up and fix the loopholes and messes in the superstructure he designed. Engineers commit blunders in the first generation of their inventions which they fix subsequently. No matter how much a father empowers his children to provide for themselves, there will always be things the children will not be able to provide for themselves without the assistance and/or support of the father, a great and caring father, not a dead beat father. If God exists, then he's no more than a father who abandoned his family when the going got tough or for some other reason or maybe, just maybe, he never and doesn't exist but is rather an invention of the imagination of certain persons to serve as an easy explanation to the absurdities of the universe in which we live.

Romance / When The Average Nigerian Girl Is Searching For True Love by francis247(m): 6:10pm On Dec 01, 2018

The average Nigerian girl's situation as far as the search for genuine love in romance is concerned can be likened to...

francis, a "Ciao" bad attitude can literally block help, love, blessings and destiny from finding you
that can be part of the reason you don't succeed
This is part of what I'm talking about. It's always been my persona. A lifestyle of not wanting to give nor receive, not really caring, not wanting to care and not wanting to care that I don't care. My life is riddled with lethargy for everything.

MuttleyLaff:

When there seemingly is every reason see the glass as half empty and be negative about life,
think also of all the reasons to see the glass as half full and be positive about that
because afterall, at the end of the day, there is always someone who has it worse than us.

Francis, everyone you know, every nairaland poster, is fighting a battle of some sort, you know nothing about

Just when you think, it can't get worse, it can
and just when you think, it can't get any better, it can

Everything will be OK in the end francis
If its not OK, it not the end then yet.

No one belongs here on earth, more than you
so make bigger efforts at life, not bigger excuses
He that is good at making excuses, is seldom good for anything else

Life is and has always being complicated.
Many of us learn not to focus too much on the negatives.
Otherwise, we won't develop and being that life is short, soon will run out of time living.

You are not alone,
Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein to list just these two, were late bloomers, who made their mark in life.

Thank you PastorAIO and budaatum for your advices, empathy and neighbourly love to francis
Thanks for the words of encouragement.

It isn't simple, francis. And I'm not gonna tell you it gets easier either. It doesn't. You just get better at handleing it whether it's half full or even empty.
lol at "whether it's half full or half empty

I'm going to address that long post of your's later. You need to be shown the other side of your coin, so don't "Ciao" me. I'm going nowhere, yet.
OK. Will be waiting. Thank you.

You are allowing yourself to be limited by you environment and circumstances, and its making you feel despondent - though, your "I do not sadly feel" presents a contraction. Do you really believe you do not "have what it takes to acquire a further sense of purpose beyond that which fulfilling the desires of my parents to procreate gives as well as that which being a member of the society offers"? Well, that's ok. It's not as if you can have fully explored the "sense of purpose which being a member of the society offers". I'll give you an anecdote.

Some long while ago, when I felt like you did, I was in a library one day when I heard the words "buda, I am the lord thy god", which isn't so strange since I was amongst what could best be described as gods to me, except I wasn't in the fashion of hearing voices apart from that of the shower head.

Somewhile later, I moved house, and not finding anywhere for my books, I shipped them all to my home in Nigeria. Then I visited the library in the Orolu Kingdom and found I had more books in storage than the entire kingdom had, so I gave my books to the library. Then I collected more books from my friends and sent them to the library, which started me on a purpose of caring for the library of the Orolu Kindom that has spanned some 15 years.

My point here is, widden your society.

Sluggish cognitive tempo (SCT) is the term for a syndrome that may comprise a novel and distinct attention disorder from ADHD. Symptoms of it include dreaminess, mental fogginess, hypoactivity, sluggishness, staring frequently, inconsistent alertness and a slow working speed.

Look at all those amazing skills! Dreaminess, the ability to move ones mind out of ones physical environment. Mental fogginess, the ability to not get stuck on the little you know. Hypoactivity, energy. Sluggishness, tortoise like, slow and steady, and not like the hare. Staring frequently, as in observing, likely with the mind as opposed to the eyes alone. Inconsistent alertness, able to relax one's mind. Slow working speed, as in, not a russian!

And the point here is widen your amazing skills!

You can more than hope, francis247! With all those skills, you can rest assured that your possibilities would widen in time.
I see you'd rather see the glass as half full rather than as half empty. For someone like me, I wish it were that simple. All the same, thanks for the concern. Ciao!

Are you a student or do you work?
I'm neither. Just graduated ( I suppose) after writing my final exams last month. And no. This is not quite the usual. I do not feel this way because I just graduated and I'm scared of what the future holds neither do I feel this way because I'm having a difficult time finding my bearing neither is it because things are difficult for me personally in many aspects of life despite my concerted efforts to improve myself and change things for the better and stuffs like that no. Far from it. On the contrary, I feel this way because I do not really have the profound desire, zeal nor willpower to make efforts, take steps, make strides giant or little to improve myself. I do not seem to have to have a real passion, dream nor aspiration. I've felt this way all my life but was never really aware of it (ignorance truly is bliss) until just recently, about two months ago to be precise. My level of self awareness has been very low. As a matter of fact, for a twenty-seven year old, I can say I have the countenance, charisma and poise of a teenager, a young one at that. Due to my very shy and quiet nature, people of course from a distance tend to assume the opposite about me.

Indeed you have no purpose when you are born, except for that of fulfilling the desires of your parents to procreate. As you grow, the society you are born into gives you purpose through "religion, language, culture, tradition, morals, ethics, rules, laws, customs and conventions", to name a few. As you develop, you acquire a further sense of purpose, the ultimate one being to live, and would do everything possible to extend life.
That's the thing. I do not sadly feel like I have in me that which it takes to acquire a further sense of purpose beyond that which fulfilling the desires of my parents to procreate gives as well as that which being a member of the society offers.

budaatum:

In the beginning was the word (which for the purpose of this thread is "religion, language, culture, tradition, morals, ethics, rules, laws, customs and conventions" ), and with it, you sir, created, purpose. So please don't you dare sell yourself short. In the future, even much more than this would you do!

As regards things looking up and changing for the better in the future, frankly I do not, as someone living with SCT alias CDD and also being a melancholic, envisage that happening but time shall tell. After all there are lots of supposedly beautiful and amazing exposures, exhibitions and experiences life has to offer of which I'm yet to have a slice. I can only but hope for the best.

There is nothing wrong with it. They are not blood related. Quote me and see me appear at your door step this very minute undecided
Well said. Unfortunately the average African would rather consider dispositions such as the OPs from the subjective rather than the objective point of view.

They are blood-related.

The said lady is bloodily-related to her mother, the mother is bloodily-related[Raw sex] to her husband, while her husband being the father is bloodily-related to his son. So they are related. You don't expect a man to marry his half-sister.
lol! I salute you. Just be sure you're stating what you really think, how you really feel on this matter, that you're not elaborating what you think or feel people would like to hear.

Being step siblings and being half siblings are quite different dispositions. With the former, there is no blood relationship whatsoever as opposed to the latter where the parties supposedly involved are related by the blood of either of both parents. However, it can be said to be a little weird getting married to one's step sibling just as it can be weird when parents who are already in-laws get married to each other.
IamD18:

Do you even know how many times my people have introduced fine matured ladies to me calling them cousin sisters? Do you know the pains I went through seeing such looking ladies as cousin sisters from the mother of my uncle's step brother's biological father of her step son?

E dey pain wella angry
Your cousin sisters are related to you by blood. That's why they're your cousins. The premises of your comparison are quite distant from that of the OPs.
