Nigeria’s Super Falcons will be one of the eight teams to take part in the Women’s Football Tournament of the 11th All-Africa Games, in Congo-Brazzavile in September this year, after spanking Mali’s Senior Women Team 8-0 in the return leg of an only qualifying fixture in Abuja on Friday. Foreign-based stars Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie and Francesca Ordega got a brace each, with another foreign-based Esther Sunday getting her name on the scoresheet after Captain Evelyn Nwabuoku had scored the goal of the evening, slamming in from the edge of the box off a corner kick. The fixture ended 9-1 in favour of Nigeria, as both teams tied 1-1 in Bamako three weeks ago. The Falcons, winners of the gold medal of the women’s football at the 2003 and 2007 All-Africa Games events, return to the showpiece after missing the 2011 competition in Mozambique. France –based Oparanozie opened the floodgate after barely three minutes, and USA –based Ordega made it two, before Oparanozie fed England –based Oshoala and the latter returned the compliment for a 4-0 lead at half time. Oshoala braved the odds to make it five two minutes after resumption, and Ordega completed her brace after some brilliant interchange of passes. Nwabuoku had her say shortly after, and Esther Sunday then powered into the net from a rebound. The scoreline could have been more damning, but the Falcons can at least lookforward to another fixture with the Maliansin a 2016 Olympics qualifier, with the firstleg in Abuja in four weeks’ time. http://www.thenff.com/2015/04/super-falcons-qualify-for-all-africa-games/ |

By Michael Eboh Nigeria has lost a minimum of N8.04 billion since January, to the incessant vandalism of the country’s gas pipelines, according to the Nigerian Gas Company, NGC, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC. suspects. Speaking at a press briefing in Warri, Delta State, the Managing Director, NGC, Mr. Dafe Sejebor, disclosed that since the beginning of this year the country has witnessed an unprecedented increase in the spate of gas pipeline vandalism. He added that within the last two months, it has recorded three major attacks on its pipeline network, mainly in the Niger Delta region. According to Sejebor, who was represented by Executive Director, Services, Mr. Joseph Olisa, “whenever these pipelines are sabotaged, we are forced to shut down the pipeline, and we defer a minimum of 200 million Standard Cubic Feet, SCF, of gas per day.” He put the average price of gas at $3 per unit of1,000 scf, adding that it takes an average of two weeks to repair the damage, and an average of one week to locate the damaged spot and mobilise personnel, equipment and materials to site. Also, the minimum cost for the repair of a damaged pipeline in the Niger Delta region, according to Sejebor, is about N160 million. To this end, at an average price of $3/1,000SCF, multiplied by 200 million SCF product loss plus repairs, Nigeria may have lost about N8.01 billion between January and now. This is put at 1,500 megawatts, as a number of power plants will be deprived of gas to generate electricity. The NGC boss decried that the recent increase in the spate of vandalism is negatively affecting the economy and the operations of the company. He said, “The spate of vandalism of our pipelines have been on the increase and this is alarming. We are hurting, especially as it has affected us negatively. It is a willful damage and not as a result of our inability to maintain our pipelines.” Source: Vanguard Nigeria http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/nigeria-loses-n8bn-to-gas-pipeline-vandalism/

Boko haram today are said to have lost 200 of their members today during a fierce battle with Chadian,Niger and the Nigerian army.Shekau in his last post, having pledged allegiance to ISIS is now loosing hugely.Public forums and news filtering in shows that the Boko Haram leader,Shekau is said to have grown meek and have left his egocentric, egominic and boastful nature aside when he replied to a threat from President Goodluck Johnathan on his death by saying,'If i die it is the will of my god.'Boko haram's videos that have surfaced are now professionally released as they now have French and Arabic subtitles to them.Forumites, do you think Boko haram latest talk of been in allegiance with ISIS is a public outcry from them and a show of fear for the battle from the three nations battling them? |

By Charles Mgbolu CEO of Kennis Music, the label Goldie was signed on, Kenny Ogungbe has issued a statement detailing the final hours of the late singer. “With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening. We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.” Goldie’s remains have been deposited at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH mortuary. On Vanguard Nigeria. |
