Tacha's soft side is slowing beginning to come out and even her haters can't help but like her. She appears to be in love with Seyi. She slept beside him yesterday in the HOH room and for the first time this season, allowed herself to be vulnerable with someone in an intimate way. She was even resting her head on his chest and moving her hand gently over his face.

This show is really addictive and I will try to make sense of it (epistle inbound). Almost anybody who sits to watch it for two hours quickly understands it and after two days gravitates to a favourite. I have noticed my laundry lady is at full attention every time Mike is on the screen and laugh at why her, a devout Christian, is consumed by an ‘immoral’ show.

Amongst the characters on the show there is a segment of the Nigerian environment. This is a quick write but on editing I will properly detail my points.

So, what does the Nigerian population consist of?

The average Nigerian. This individual is halfway through poverty or struggling to survive the country’s hardship. Their grammar consists of English sparingly but majorly pidgin. They also have a concentrated Nigerian accent. Their fans consist of people from the same lifestyle.

Examples: Omashola, Thelma, Nelson to an extent and Esther to an extent.

Note: Esther is a special case because she is educated, speaks English all the time — but the accent.

The rich kids. These ones hardly do menial labour of any sort. They schooled either in private Nigerian schools or abroad and are exposed enough to hold one-on-one conversations with foreigners.

Examples: Seyi, Joe, Kim to an extent, Jeff and Jackye.

The returnees. These are Nigerians from diaspora here to milk our resources or contribute to the country’s growth. What else do you want me to say? Okay, they realized a glass ceiling exists in their host country and want to test the waters here. Most are unsure if they’ll stay here permanently or run back ‘home’.

Examples: Khafi, Ike, Avala and Mike.

The in-and-out. This is a semi-diasporan. Only one person fits this list because despite her Caucasian lineage and years spent in a host country she is still 100% Nigerian and never accepted as the other half.

Venita.

The slay queens. This is Nairaland, slay queens are part of the lingo. If you don’t understand what they are then use this forum for two months and you’ll have an idea.

Under this segment are the Instagram stars because I don’t get paid to type extra paragraphs.

Examples: Tacha, Mercy, Venita, Kim and Jackye to an extent (she won a pageant after all).

The educated Nigerian. These are average Nigerians who went to school (university). Exposure is not a requirement but they can hold solid discussions in English.

Examples: Diane, Jeff, Isilomo, Ella (I’m not sure here), Tuoyo, Nelson, Sir Dee, Elozonam, Frodd, Cindy, Enkay, Gedoni and Esther.

From the mentioned categories a Nigerian subconsciously recognizes where he/she falls in or easily relates to and is quick to see him/herself in the individual(s).

I personally gravitated to Frodd because he was the archetypal cool Igbo guy I’ve come across throughout life. May he not become the death of me from his reckless decisions.
