This COVID 19 issue is very serious. Canada has shut down borders and declared state of emergency in some provinces. I currently work from home because office was shut down on Monday. People are panic buying and all that. But I believe this too shall pass. Shalom. |

Naijaforeigner: If your friend does not have money, let him defer his current offer while he tries to get admission for January into college/University. He should make sure it is a college/university where the fees are cheap (not more than 5000 CAD). I strongly recommend he goes for a program that has a co-op (most likely college). He should make sure it is a program that has at least 8 months co-op.
Once he gets admission into college, he should try and get money to pay for his 1st semester fees from Nigeria, his 8 months co-op will most likely sort out the rest if he is disciplined.
Please forget the idea of trying to defer and then work while in Canada for 6 months before school starts, It will most likely mess him up when he wants to apply for his PGWP.
Also, if your friend has a job in Nigeria at the moment where he can still get some money from now till January, no need to rush to travel to Canada. Except you have family members that are willing to accommodate you for free (food inclusive) in Canada, it is easier to save money in Nigeria than it is in Canada provided he already has a regular source of income in Nigeria. Save up money, save up money before you travel, you will need it.
This is for other students who don't have enough money
If you don't have money, no scholarship and you want to study in Canada, please be strategic.
(1) Make sure you apply to colleges or Universities with very low tuition.
(2) Make sure it is a 2 years program so you don't have to renew study permit while in Canada.
(3) If you choose 1 year PGC, you will need to renew study permit again and show money in account. If you know you struggled getting money in your account or sponsors, why will you want to go for a 1 year program?
(4) Make sure you choose co-op programs - you get to work full time for up to 8 months during course of study.
(5) you can always change schools even after your visa has been approved. If you need to switch to co-op program or cheaper schools, do it now. It is legal and allowed.
P.s For all those with Visa's or planning to come to Canada, please learn how to cut hair and ladies, if you can learn how to make hair before coming, you will make cool cash.
I cut my hair for 25CAD without shaving and 35CAD if I shave, do the maths (London, ON hair cut price). I know a lady that charges 80 CAD and above to make ladies hair as a side hustle (she has her regular job). She attends to only 3 customers weekly because of her regular job. If you are a student, this will help you big time most especially when on break.
While waiting 6 months in Nigeria for visa, what are you doing with your time? Perfect. I greet you boss. |

Well done to everyone on this platform offering one form of assistance or another, its really kind of you guys, God bless each and every one of you. I will try and be brief about my story, I applied early october last year, after securing an admission at Fanshawe College(Really one of the best colleges in Canada if not the best). I applied with an account balance of 5mil for my personal account(now red after paying fees, smiles), den 9 mil for sponsors account(Parents). I applied with an SOP, Police Certificate, Filled the online form etc. Towards early nov, I got a letter to go do biometrics, did that Immediately and started waiting for medical request, this came mid december, Around december 18th, I went to IOM Lagos and had to beg to do the medicals, because they were telling me to come back in feb cos thats when there was space for it. I did the medicals not up to 5 days latter after much pleading. Then the mistake I made was travelling for christmas, my PPR came on the 31st of December 2018 when I was still flexing new year eve somewhere in the south eastern part of Nigeria, I travelled back to Lag on the 4th of January 2019, which was a friday. Went on monday 7th January and submitted my passport, mind you school resumed the same day. I got my passport on Friday and while I got it, I went to book a flight for sunday 13th January, But my agent called me and told me school said no international students should come again cos school had already resumed. kai, I was devastated. She said I could travel in April for the may session. I immediately reapplied for another course becos the initial one i applied which started in January session runs for Jan and September only. So I got the second admission but my agent failed to tell me that there was a deadline for payment being march 1st, march 1st came and passed, the school moved me off the program to waitlist, meaning my spot has been taken, another devastation. what that technically meant was that I wont be travelling in april again meanwhile my visa was already running out. I had to move to plan C, Applying for a diploma course. I applied for the diploma course, was given admission, awesome. So I had already booked my flight for April 24th in February, Lufthansa airways. I left Nigeria on 24th April, 10pm flight to Frankfurt Germany, Stayed in Frankfurt for over 6 hours, Joined another flight to Toronto, Landed in Toronto at exactly 5.15 pm on thursday. Now for those coming, there arent much to expect at the airport, just fill your declaration card(a card that will tell the authorities at a glance what you are bringing into the country). you get your study permit and probably sin number if you aint in a hurry. So I hurriedly left after getting my study permit in other not to miss the Fanshawe bus that was waiting. I was taking to Knights Inn motel, A popular one on Dundas street for two free nights which you are entitled to if you apply to Fanshawe College.
Ok, Its becoming too long, I will continue with things to do immediately you arrive and others latter.
This write up is not complete if I dont make another shout out to @Naijaforeigner, really you have been a life saver out here. If you coming to Fanshawe College, kindly holla at him@naijaforeigner if you need any info or assistance with anything. Thank you, thank you, thank you again @naijaforeigner. With him, we sure got our backs as international students(Nigerians).
Ok, God deserve all the praise so far. To as many that are so expectant of TRV, Place your hand on your chest and say He(God) never fails.
Thanks for your time. Next post in a bit. One love
It may be long, but it sure contains some valuable lessons international students could learn about the great Fanshawe College |

Frankrobbn1: Hello yemilasko,
Congratulations on your TRV approval.
When you arrive at the POE the immigration officer will request for the following documents from you: - 1-) Your stamped visa passport; 2-) The study permit approval letter from the visa office (correspondence letter/letter of introduction) 3-) The acceptance letter from your school 4-) Proof that you have enough money to support yourself in Canada and 5-) Any relevant reference letters or papers that you were advised to bring with you.
You could be asked any of the following questions to determine your eligibility to enter Canada: 1-) Where do you plan to stay?. 2-) You will be asked if you are bringing in more than $10,000 CAD in cash, stocks, bonds, debentures, bank drafts, cheques, traveller's cheques, money orders, etc. Please make sure you declare it. ( At this point, you could possibly say that your school doesn't require tuition deposit until the first day to start of classes, hence you didn't pay tuition fees upfront. However, you have the funds here with you and will pay immediately you've settled down or as soon as the school resumes) This is pretty much reasonable. I believe it's not gonna be a problem for you. 3-) You will be asked if you are bringing any food, roots, meat or other edibles.. Please declare them (e.g Gala, palm oil are not allowed). 4-) You will be asked if you are carrying any drugs for which you do not have a valid prescription. 5-) What are you going to study? 6-) At which institution? 7-) How long are your studies? 8-) What do you intend to do after you have finished your studies? 9-) Some Immigration officers might ask you "How is Nigeria? Is it a nice country to stay?... They already know that nigeria is a country where the system doesn't work that's why everyone is rushing to Canada for a better living, so please don't fall for this question, it's meant to trick to you. Always try to speak good about Nigeria and the reason why you must return. Canadians are very friendly, thus the immigration officer will be smiling while asking you these questions. So be polite when answering them. Finally, never try to conceal any information from them!
Upon answering the aforementioned questions. The immigration officer will decide if you can enter Canada and how long you can stay, and if everything is okay, the officer will issue your study permit and you will also be redirected to a sperate counter where you will be issued your SIN (Social Insurance Number) which makes you eligible to work 20hours/per week and 40hours/per week during holidays (spring).
As per your last question; you can get first hand information about getting an apartment in Toronto through the LIVING IN CANADA THREAD
I hope you find the above information useful to what you seek. Nice one |

Sabby1: Mine was when I went for apprenticeship in Abuja after my WAEC and NECO. Before going there, my dad gave me his phone and bought a new one for himself.
I was enjoying the apprenticeship when my boss's pretty young wife on one faithful day accused me of stealing the recharge cards she do sell worth thousands of naira and sending it to my siblings. I was like why will I steal your recharge cards when my parent do send me card when I request for, unknowing to me, she has already gone through my messages and saw recharge codes not knowing it was the phone my dad used in sending recharge cards to my siblings in higher institution.
Meanwhile, she started accusing me of theft and reported me to my boss and family members and that led to my family calling for a meeting and after much investigation, they saw I was innocent and even had to pay for damages
I later came to a realization that she was furious with me because she requested for something unethical and I refused to give in. Unethical? Dats serious |

So sad . This is for those applying to Fanshawe, pls treat all deadlines with a sense of importance. I pray I make it out of the wait list. |
