Slowpois0n:Thumbs up mate. That's the way to go. Say no to agents and yes to do it yourself. |
ugsams:Yeah ezacly. That's why we keep on telling them don't approach anyone here to get job you don't know who is who. |
They are here in full swing. Pablomaria... You are a bloody scammer correct me if I am wrong. |
Gooci:AFTER ALL THE PREACHING ON THIS THREAD THAT NO AGENT YOUR PLAN IS TO USE AGENT OK. CARRY ON. YOU WILL BE MADE TO BELIEVE THAT YOU WILL BE EARNING FAR MORE THAN YOUR PRESENT JOB IN NIGERIA BUT IN REALITY IT MAY BE LESS. You start with security job here, you'll most likely stay in that line. Maybe after 2 years you might become security supervisor. Is it really worth it. The bloody agent might even be lying to you about the security job. It might be cleaning job where you will be working 6 days a week 40 hours every day with salary of 30000 equivalent in naira and living with 10 other people in room 300sqft in size. Loads of people in the UAE are where you are this very moment, agent telling them they will earn five figures in dirhams....even giving them contract letter showing all the good stuff in the job till they come here and see something else. Stay clear of this agents...you are there source of income they will tell you whatever you want to hear to get money from you. Why not try other countries like canada, australia. Maybe this thread should be closed....it serves more of an avenue for agents to get potential clients/victims rather than what it really is supposed to do. |
DrDre1: I've only 'passed through' UAE but from my interactions with people and from what I read here, I'd say cost of living is lower in Qatar. The difference might not be so much but it's lower sir.Thank you for the info. |
kelvin4jesu: Opportunities are everywhere it just depends on ur head, destiny and luckExactly, you find some struggling and some enjoyment. Thank you for the info. |
Valemodi: Hi people, there's not a day I don't meet Nigerians who have been made to believe that Dubai is the midas touch for job opportunities. You might be able to have more impact on the Qatar/Dubai visa section |
DrDre1: Hate to burst ur bubble sir. Ur number 2 question got me really laughingHello sir. What's the cost of living in Qatar compared to UAE? Is experience in the UAE valuable when applying for jobs over there? |
How much for PS4? |
icedbreez: I hope transit visa is not needed if you re going to dubai and happen to pass through Qatar airport for 6hours on ur way to dubai?I do not think so |
The phone wasn't well cooked |
Donxavier: So largely field based engineering roles and years of experience are available to other nationals?Yes kind of. It might be due to more familiarity with these other nationals and also due to the reputation we have given ourselves but you don't tend to see many of us in these companies. They are available to us but it is tougher for us getting this jobs you know but not impossible. |
justi4jesu: Yes you will have to pay customs charges when receiving your package, and you must have a P.O. Box Number on the Dubai Address you intend to use else your package will be sent back to US the same day it arrives.Which one is kuntraband all I asked for buying an item on eBay. Providing a po box wouldn't be any problem and other docs as well. So what will be charges on a say a PS4 ![]() |
offtopic...How reliable is it buying items on ebay.com from here in Dubay...would i need to pay custom charges An item I want to buy seems to be cheapest on ebay.comQuestion directed at Justi4jesu and others too ![]() |
Donxavier: I don't doubt there are Nigerians working in oil coys in Abu Dhabi. It seems it's tough luck getting a job with one of the oil companies. A friend of mine flew from Aberdeen to Dubai to attend a very massive job fair February this year and most of the feedback emails he got after application where that the jobs were open only for emirati nationals. But there are always exceptions though.Yes thats true. The very top positions/senior positions are reserved for the Emiratis. But you find few emiratis doing field based engineering roles. You tend to find other nationalities like Malaysians, Filipinos, Indians and Pakistanis here. This field based jobs pay good money with attractive packages. The few Nigerians you see working in these companies are the ones with experience, it would be hard for a fresh graduate to get a job without experience - Fresh Graduate recruitment tend to be for Emiratis only. I am not saying its not hard. When you compare our numbers to the numbers of the nationalities i mentioned above, there is a big difference. It is tougher for we Africans compared to say for example the Indians and Filipinos. They are more established here.... |
kelvin4jesu: Nigerians working in uae top oil companyHi...Just because you dont know any Nigerian working in "UAE top oil company" does not mean there are no Nigerians. |
Donxavier: Did the Abu Dhabi jobs page go with the tsunami? Also all these top oil coys aren't they for UAE nationals only? Can anyone shed light on thisSays who sir? Do you know we have Nigerians working with the top oilcompanies here. Let's not limit ourselves please. |
GeneralShepherd: I have work experience as an IT professional in a oil and gas firm, then as an electrical engineer in a manufacturing firm. Now I'm studying subsea engineering with concentration in pipeline design and asset risk management. That's great. You might not need come to the UAE and start applying. Like I mentioned in my previous post start applying right from there, there are oil and gas companies.....try the ones in Abu Dhabi - adnoc, adco, gasco, and the others. People have gotten jobs right from the UK with our green pali (naija passport). They value western education and experience ..... you've got both. Package yourself well and you'll be smiling with a fat salary. There was some post on the earlier pages in this section on companies in Abu Dhabi, you might want to search to find the post if it's not lost ![]() |
GeneralShepherd: I'm studying subsea engineering at a prestigious school in the UK. If I wish to emigrate to UAE how do I go about it?Hi ....you can start by applying for jobs right from the UK. Do you have working experience? If yes then that is a plus. |
ugsams: In my quest to find out why Al Baraha is considered bad, I stumbled on this article. Although the article is old, lengthy and didn't say much about Al Baraha, it tells a lot about different neighbourhoods in the UAE and the sweet part of it was that it was written by a Nigerian. If you enjoy reading, read and learn http://globetrotter82..nl/2009/01/dubai-uncovered.html?m=1Bery informative |
drumma: Thank you all for your contributions concerning the job prospect.... Ur advise will help alot.... Just to buttress my point on the job issue... I believe im very equipped qualification wise as i have B.sc/IATA FOUNDATION AND MANAGEMENT levels which is the professional exam acknowledged in the industry globally and coupled with my 5yrs experience in the travel industry here in Nigeria I have a strong believe it will be hard for any one to dust me in an interview. i have also scheduled another ticketing training in dubai with AlSharaf aviation school just to show them that i also did something in dubaiI can see you are well prepared and planned well. I admire you sense of believe and positive attitude. You have the qualifications and experience use it to your greatest advantage.... don't know if it is the right use of words but sure you know what I mean. Wish you the best of luck and don't forget to share the good news here with us. |
drumma: Im seriously surprised at the level of response I got when I raise the question of hunting for a job in dubai.... Almost all of laughed and im wondering what the cause of that is.There is the believe in Dubai that you can only get menial jobs like security office boy factory worker etc. It does not mean you can't get a job in a travel company. You can, it's just that it can be hard. But a lot also depends on how you present yourself, your cv, experience etc. Plenty people come to Dubai to get well paying jobs but end up with menial job. Indians are very patriotic and they seem to be running the show in most places here. An Indian boss will consider there own first before any other person irrespective of qwalification/experience..... it's just the way it is. There is truth in what they say but with determination, proper planning....... |
drumma: @ Teeklef... Im categorically telling u that u can apply for ur dubai visa via wakanow or any other established travel company.... As for travel agents? My hands are off mbokThis is new information. So bazically if I want visa to travel Dubai for job purposes all I need do is cough up 25000 naira provided I have travel ticket? |
mrramadan: Yeah I stay in Umm Al Quwain. This is the cheapest city to live in, as far as UAE is concerned. You can drive from here to Ajman or Dubai. From here to Dubai is about 50km. If you think am, it is still worth it, since fuel is cheap and the roads are good, no traffic either, except when you get to Dubai... I will advise U to get a place here in Umm Al Quwain... Somewhere around Sheikh Villa, it's much cheaper...Thank you your post was very helpful and informative |
supercharged: Ohhboii this ur wahala too much oo, i couldnt manage academic city to knowledge village. I felt sorry for my self wen i took a bus frm baniyyas square to ajman... I cant imagine passing through to umm al quwain...There is a difference between taking a bus and driving a car mate. You can't expect to use the same amount of time using both. There are people who live in Ajman and drive to Dubai on a daily basis. |
kelvin4jesu: I once met a guy he took me to umm al quwain where he was dump and camp by those Nigerians wicked agents at the expiration of his visa he was taken back to naija before he blocks card.Thank you for the info. Are you saying not possible to have a job in Dubai and live in umm Al quwain - example having a car driving down to Dubai every day. I understand they are two different Emirates but UAE is a small country. |
sweetsleek: Pls I'm not seeking for a scammer but a sincere helper should be able to tell me the details and since I will do bank transfer, trust Nigeria for EFCC is active nowHi, the reputation of this thread as been tarnished due to a major incident that happened few months back. I strongly advise against using this medium to seek for help in the manner you've just done. It's for your own good. |
@kelvin4jesu You seem to have been in UAE for quite while......How probable is it living in umm al quwain and working in dubai? |
mrramadan: Hello Y'all... This is a question for those who have been in the UAE for sometime. I'd like to know if any one has any info on freelancing permit. I'd like to start doing some small business on my own here added to the one I already have going on in Nigeria. Any info will be appreciated.Hello not actually answer your question. From ya post I can see you stay in umm Al quwain, what is rent like over there.... is it possible to live in umm Al quwain and work in Dubai or Ajman that is driving down to Dubai/Ajman every day for work? I also direct question to other forumites |
omoteamac: Hi house...please i asked this question once in this house and i got a lightweighted answer....It depends on factors like your lifestyle, do you have dependents, are you single or married. On assuming you are single....my opinion it will be tough but maybe doable. Let more experienced forumites answer this. |
Gsentme: pls bro I want to no how much it can cost me to get a job in dubai pls help. I mean the working permit visa fee. Because one of my friend over their told me is about 450000k excluding air ticket. Pls I really want to noHello sir, just as madam said it is a scam. Your question is inviting scammers to do their thing. Listen I paid no one money to get my job, so my advise is for you to do the same. Package yourself well meaning your cv put down all your relevant experience, apply for jobs online, know how to present yourself well in interviews. I don't know how it is this days with visit visas but as of last year all you had to do was get visa from ethihad ....it was that easy. 'Your friend over there' wants to scam you ok. Is it worth paying 500000 for job that pays only about 90000 monthly ? See heh you will suffer. You might want to use that money for something profitable in Nigeria. When you get a proper job here in UAE, they pay for visa expenses, travel expenses and even more depending on your pay grade. |
bukarbi: Please guys i need your help.Hello sir, YOU WANT TO PAY SOMEONE 5000AED FOR A JOB THAT WILL EARN YOU PEANUTS!!! GO AHEAD IF YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH PROPERLY YOU WILL FIND OUT THAT YOU SHOULDN'T PAY ANYONE MONEY TO GET A JOB. That your 'friend' is a liar and a thief and wants to dupe you. Listen we are in a digital age ffs. Why don't you do some research on this thread and on Google. There are a lot of scammers in the job market here in Dubai.Dubai is a fantastic city with this comes a lot of vultures ready to feed on people like you who choose to be ignorant and dash your hard earned money to some so called 'friend'. To cut long story short don't give anyone money for job. Apply for jobs directly. And don't approach anyone offline from here either including me. |
